Edit published folders?

Hello
I'm trying out uploading with Goliath (having had no luck publishing iWeb>.Mac direct).
I've published my site to a local folder and it's uploading now.
I just wondered, when I edit my site, how do I open this new published local folder? Will iWeb now load the pages from here to work on? Or will I have to re-publish to a new folder and upload it all again?
Hope you can help, thanks in advance.

I have an fpt site and files seem to upload to there
easily, but I don't know where to point my domian
once they're up... if I can work that out it seems
much better... do you know anything about ftp?
Here are some tips for doing things with ftp:
http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/iwebserver.html
As for what the url would be, you need to get that info from the provider of your ftp space, or at least tell us who that is. It would normally be something like http://www.domainname.com/username, assuming you have uploaded an index.html file plus a Site folder, for example.

  • Moving website from published folders back to iWeb

I am currently working on a number of websites however when I went to publish one website to .mac it has put other websites in to a published folder. How do I move the works in progress websites from the published folders back to iWeb to continue working on them??

    Hi,
unfortunately there is no way to get html files (published files/pages) back into iWeb to edit them. To be edited in iWeb a site needs to be in the domain file (where iWeb stores its data).
    http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWebRetrieveWebsite.html
To manage more than one website they all need to be in the same domain file (showing up in iWeb at the same time) or you need have multiple domain files (not showing up all at the same time). You can't publish to folder, delete the site from iWeb, make a new one and get the one you deleted and published to a folder back in.

  • How to edit/publish a calendar from multiple computers?

In our small business we have up to three people doing scheduling using iCal. We would like to use our separate computers to edit/publish calendars. Right now, we can subscribe, but not publish calendars from multiple machines.
Is there a way to remotely log in to the Mac we publish the calendars on, or can we do this through the web?
Sorry if this has been covered before . . . thanks!

The only way I know to "log in" to another computer is through the Apple's sofware: Apple Remote Desktop (a bit overkill if all you want to do is edit a calendar)
It is not possible to edit another user's calendar, you can only sibscribe.
Perhaps a 3rd party will have this ability soon (Chronos is coming out with a major upgrade to their Group/Personal Organizer product.
DayLite by Market Circle is another product which may let you do what you want but it doesn't currently sync with iCal, thus you would lose all the extended functionality of iCal.
Sorry none of these meet your current needs,
Do look at CalTalk if you need to share calendars locally without publishing them to the web. (How do you share now?)
There are also some web based calendar programs (eg BaseCamp) but you have to always be connected to the web and pay a subscrition fee.

  • Published Folders Panel Issue in LR5.2 - Too Wide, Can't See Folder Arrows

I installed LR5.2 from the CC today on my Mac (10.8.4), and when I upgraded my LR4 catalog to LR5, all of my Published Folders were missing from underneath each corresponding Publish Services tab. None of the collections of photos are present. (Hard Drive, Facebook, Flickr, 500px)
However, each of the Published Services plug-ins are set correctly, and are shown to be up and running in the Publishing Manager. Also, when I try to create a new published folder underneath one of the tabs using the same name that I used in LR4, it says "That Name is Already In Use." So, LR5 knows that the folders exisit, they're just not there in the pane. Not only do I not see my old collections of published photos, I have no way adding new photos to those collections.
I tried deleting the LR5 preferences and starting over, opening up and upgrading my LR4 catalog in LR5 again, but still having the same problem. LR4 still runs fine and shows all of my published folders normally. They just don't show up in LR5.
It looks like it may just be an issue with the Publish Services pane. It's too wide to show the little black arrows at the right. (see photo below)
Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions?

At the risk of stating the obvious, did you try:
    * Pulling the panel wider?
    * Installing/enabling jf Folder Publisher (to get rid of the "(missing plug-in)" text (or delete the jf publish service altogether (disabling it in plugin manager won't do it)).
Note: if the panel won't go wide enough, you can widen it by adding lines like this to TranslatedStrings.txt in {lang} subfolder of 'Resources' - in with your Lr program files -
    "$$$/locale_metric/Mac/Panel/maxWidth=900"
    "$$$/locale_metric/Win/Panel/maxWidth=900"
    ~R.

  • What does "Edit  Published Collection" do?

If I right-click on a published collection there is a command "Edit Published Collection".  In the dialog box that comes up it seems the only thing I can do is rename but there is already a rename in the right-click menu.  Hitting EDIT in the dialog seems to do NOTHING.  What am I missing on the use of this command.  There doesn't seem to be any info on this in a google search.

It completely depends on  the plugin that lies behind that published service, Bob. The usual thing would be to code the plugin so that menu option opens a dialog box with settings related to that service.
For instance, imagine the plugin is uploading shoots to a print service. Edit may produce a dialog which gets info from the service (eg standard prices) and allows you to add your profit margin or uplift. When you close the dialog that information is stored in the catalogue and sent to the service.
So Edit can do all sorts of things and it's not surprising that Google might not provide any obvious answer.

  • Where are my publishing folders?

I opened up LR3 and several folders are missing, they are still on my HDD, but missing in LR. I imported a few again, then went to publish and most of my publishing folder are missing. The folder are still on the HDD, but not in LR. What is going on? How do I get the publishing folders back without re-creating them? and why are all my imported folders not showing? I have not moved, renamed, or changed the folders on the HDD - I literally was working without issues, then the next time I opened LR - poof, there gone.

One possibility is that you accidentally opened the wrong catalog, look under File->Open Recent
If that doesn't fix the issue, restore a recent backup of your catalog

  • Trouble editing published webpages

    Hi,
I just published my website to the internet through Dreamhost (not .mac) and I'm wondering how I can edit individual pages already published to my server without having to re-publish my entire website to my hard drive every single time I make a update my site.
Okay, so here is the current procedure:
    1) Change a few lines of text and add a few new pictures on a page on my website in iWeb (let’s say the “latest news” webpage for example).
    2) “Publish” the entire website to a folder on my hard drive. (Now I have two published websites by the same name in different folders on my hard drive that are only slightly different).
    3) Open up cyberduck (my ftp client).
    4) Type in the complete url in the “quick connect box” and then I type in my server name and password.
    5) Now I open the “index.html” folder for the site and delete the old “latest news” folder completely from cyber duck (my ftp client).
    6) Now I just drag the new edited version folder of “latest news” from my hard drive and then drop it into the index.html folder in cyber duck and within a minute or two the new “latest news” webpage appears on my website.
So, obviously this works, but it’s a “wonky” procedure, especially considering the fact that I want to be changing and updating the website on a weekly basis. I’m sure a better way to update webpages exists, but I’m a complete beginner to all of this stuff. Any help or advice would be most appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Latest version iMovie: cannot see clips in project OR event browser, but they are there in both libraries! So cannot create/edit/publish ANYTHING.

HI All. I have been having a HECK of a time with iMovie 11!!!  Converted a bunch of video to .mov format, imported into iMovie, and created a project. No problem. Finalized, and published to iTunes, no problem. Saves extra copies. No Problem. SO ... I want to create another project, and follow the instructions RELIGIOUSLY. I can import the video files into the event library, and can drag them into a newly created project, but I CANNOT see the clips in the browser pane for events or library! When I click the playhead in either the event library or the project library (where the clips are edited - supposedly), they play (ie, i hear the audio just fine) ... but NO real-time playback.  ALSO - the video no longer plays for the already completed project when I click the playhead - same deal - not in the project browser, not in the event browser. The playhead runs, but as it moves from thumbnail to thumbnail, each one goes black, and no video plays in real time in the other pane. I closed out of iMovie, did a restart, repaired permissions. No change. I get no error messages, and can find no way to 'reassociate' a project with a set of clips (like one can do in software like Illustrator etc).HELP!!!

I've spent 3 hours in Apple Covent Garden trying to have this fixed. Most of those were spent doing something to content in iPhoto. It didn't work. Then I left them my computer to reinstall software (Snow Leopard and iMovie) which they said they could do better than me and my discs. But I got back a computer with a new user profile and no files. When I used Time Machine to restore my files to my old profile the problem was just as before except now I've lost a week worth of photos, despite the Time Machine file having been saved just hours before I gave my Mac to the muppets in the Apple store.
If it's any clue, the other I get is that iMovie searches for four missing movie files when it tries to load. I've tried solving this by creating new files and changing the names to match the ones that are missing (as I read elsewhere in the community works) but it doesn't work.
So I've wasted hours, a day of Apple having my computer and no one replies to my thread here. What's to be done? Do I give up on iMovie and buy Final Cut pro? And how can I get my week's worth of photos back that have disappeared from TimeMachine, even though everything else in the restoration (e.g. mail and Firefox windows) are completely up to date?

  • Restoring iWeb /domain from Published Folders

Had a lightning strike and fried both my internal harddrive and my backup drive. Still 'might' be able to recover data from the external, but I'm looking for a work-around just in case.
Is there a way in iWeb (or using a 3rd party app) to convert published pages/folders back into something that iWeb can work with? I've read some older posts and it appears not, but thought maybe someone may have discovered a trick recently. Remaking them manually will be difficult, since the pages I created have many template modifications.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be glad to hear them. If not I may give up on iWeb altogether, and switch over to Dreamweaver permanently.

Welcome to the discussions. A good reason to have iWeb Domain file backups offsite and/or on DVDs.

It's not possible in iWeb and it's hard to imagine someone ever coming up with a 3rd party app to do that. You've probably already seen section 2.3 of this FAQ page which gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

My Canon EOS Camera can also capture 1080p Video it writes it to the memory Card as Name.MOV.  I don't do video the file are huge. But you
made me want to see what CS6 video support could do to reduce the file size.
So I took one of my captured .mov files and droped it onto Photoshop the .mov file was 264,678,777 byte in size.  I saw the Photoshop could render H264 .mp4 video anf that there were some presets for YouTube at 29.97 the rate my camera does for 1080p, 720p and SD 360p I also tried createin a 854x480 16:9 video 480P
These are the size file produced 480 make no sence it so close to 720 file size.

  • How to edit published page?

I created a website using iWeb, published it and now want to edit...but I cannot for the life of me figure out to edit the published page. I can view it...I just can't seem to edit it. Any ideas?
Power Mac G4 Tower   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

The only way I know to deal with that problem is to:
    * Go to your published site.
    * Drag images, etc from your published site to iWeb, then use those elements to reconstruct your site.
    * Or, do a screen capture of your site (someone suggested Shift-Command-4; I use Shift-Command-3). Then use an imagine processing problem like Photoshop Lite or perhaps iPhoto to crop out material you don't want. Then paste the remaining image into iWeb. It's not idea, but it might save you a lot to time reconstructing your site.
    * Another tip is to do your text composition in MS Word, then "Save as Webpage". That way, you have a backup copy of material in a .doc file, in addition to what you have saved in our domain file.

  • Cannot edit published webpage

    Hi All-
Maybe you folks will be able to help me out. I made a website using iWeb and could not find a way to save it to my flash drive, so I published the webpage to my flash drive. Now I want to edit the webpage again and I am unable to open any of the saved files with iWeb. It doesn't recognize any of them. I'm a Windows user, so I'm way out of my element. I couldn't find an "open" under file to get it that way and when I go to my flash drive and do "open with" iWeb is grayed out. I can open it in Dreamweaver, but I hate Dreamweaver.
Anyone heard of this problem before?
    Thanks,
    Brittany

Well no, you won't be able to open these files - iWeb has no import facility, so is unable to open previously published sites, html files.
As Roddy has said already, you need to find the domain.sites file where everything in iWeb is stored. You domain file is found under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
