Edit rotation - then time remapping - keyframes for rotation don't sync

I have some footage that requires quite a bit of rotational correction which worked fine. I then need to slow some of it down. I used time remapping. This resulted in the correct slow motion but the key frames for the rotation editing did not "stretch" with original footage. So the rotation editing now occurs in the wrong places.
Am I using the wrong sequence for editing? Or is there away to make the keyframes adjust accordingly when the footage is remapped.

    Keyframes aren't inserted at the In and Out points of the layer; they're inserted at the beginning and end of the layer.
    Is that not what you're seeing?

    Just thought I'd post a screen grab of keyframe issues I've been seeing in case anyone at Adobe is paying attention. I can't recreate these bugs as they seem to only happen once in awhile. In this screen grab my selected clip is  00017.MTS and it's effect conrols are open in the source side monitor. At the point of the playhead the opacity is set to 0% but it is not fully transparent, it's opacity seems to be more like 50%.
    My system:
    Adobe CC Premier Pro
    Macbook Pro mid 2012
    2.7 GHz Intel core i7
    Nividia GeForce GT 650M 1024MB
    OS X 10.8.5

    The workaround is to do your time remapping keyframes and then nest it into a new sequence. Then apply the opacity keyframes to the new sequence.

    I do a lot of time remap keyframe tweaking in AE, so i tend to zoom in all the way into the timeline.
    Is there a way to reduce the spacing in between the frames? Then i'll be able to display more frames onscreen. Thanks!

    I'm not sure what you're asking here. You can see more frames in the timeline by simply clicking on the left most icon at the bottom left of the time line zoom controller. A single click will show you twice the frames in your time line, The next click will show you five times the number of frames, the next will show you 10.  If you want to see more frame numbers displayed at the top of the timeline, then the answer is no. The frame numbering will go from every frame to every other frame, to every five frames.

    5  10  15  20
    and so on.
    If you want to have more frames in a second  then you can re-set the frame rate of your composition all the way up to 99 frames per second. This will not change the length of a movie in seconds in your timeline, but you'll be able to set keyframes to a higher degree of accuracy in time. In other words, if the video in the timeline is 10 seconds long when your comp is 24 fps it will still be 10 seconds long when the comp is 99 fps but you'll be able to set a keyframe at 1 second and another keyframe at 1.0101010 seconds instead of one at 1 second and the next one at 1..04166 seconds. Just make sure to change the frame rate back to your desired playback frame rate before you render.

  • Repeated frames when time remapping AVCHD clips in AE

    I will try to explain the best I can. Keep in mind I am a novice and by no means highly technical. First some background: I edit sports video for college bound athletes. I put together highlight videos for them. When I am filming I start/stop the camera at the beginning/end of a play so I can easily identify/edit "clips". I have imported 10 AVCHD "clips" from my Sony HDR-SR11 to a Premiere Pro CS4 project. I am using the "AVCHD 1080i anamorphic/29.97fps" sequence setting as my output for this project will be a 1440x1080 mepeg2 file. So I get my clips in the timeline add some transitions, no major edits, render the work area and playback. Everything looks fine, all clips play smooth. Now here's the rub. I want to freeze play, highlight an athlete then continue play. To do this I am using AFTER EFFECTS (NOTE I have done this with HDV footage off my Canon HV20 camera with no problems) so anyway with the new CS4 edition I can right click on a clip in my timeline and choose "replace with after effects composition"....I do and the clip migrates to AE into a a composition ready for me to work my magic. So my method for freezing play is select the "clip" in the composition, Ctrl-Alt-T for time remapping. I add 5 seconds to the duration of the composition since I am going to add time when I freeze the clip. I find the point in the clip where I want to freeze it. I place a "time remap" keyframe at that point. I then drag my mouse to highlight the keyframe I just placed and the keyframe at the end of the clip......I drag them to the right 2 seconds, then cut/paste the keyframe I added which is placed by the CTI (which is still at the original point). Now I have a 2 second freeze in play. I add a white solid and do some masking to highlight the athlete during that freeze. And that's it.....I press "O" then "N" to define the work area then I choose "trim comp to work area" from the composition menu. I repeat this process to all my clips and here is where I see the problem. I go back to my timeline in PP and I play the clips......I see my freeze/highlight edits from AE just fine but on SOME clips......2 out of 5 for example.....I get jittery playback. So I decided to scrub thru the clip frame by frame to see what is going on. So within 29 frames this is what I see. Girl is getting ready to serve a volleyball....Frame 1-15....she steps forward to serve THEN at frame 18 she pops back to the starting point...IT LOOKS LIKE FRAMES 1-12 ARE BEING REPEATED. I scrub the rest of the clip and this happens at random points....a small block of frames gets repeated throughout the clip which in the end looks like "jitter" or "jumpy" motion. I follow the same workflow in AE for each clip BUT this "jitter" does not happen on every clip...only some. So is my workflow at fault or is AE/PP/Adobe still buggy when it comes to working with AVCHD codec?? Anyone else experience this, if so do you have a fix?

    I haven't tested your theory yet Andrew but I did do this. In trying to track down exactly where these repeated frames are occurring. In AE I redid one clip that was repeating frames. I went frame by frame in AE and see no repeated frames. These changes should occur automatically in PP since the AE comp is still dynamically linked to my PP timeline. So I scrubbed the "source" (AE comp) file from the PP project panel frame by frame. And low and behold there are repeated frames, so it appears the problem is the handoff from AE to PP Sooooooo, ok I deleted the source file in the PP project panel and reimport it via dynamic link. Open the clip in the source monitor and yes...repeated frames at same point....recheck the comp in AE....no repeated frames. Delete the clip from PP project panel and this time import the clip directly instead of dynamic link.....repeated frames still there. So how about rendering the clip in AE the old fashion way then import to PP. AE Render Queue best settings - lossless.....blah blah blah. I ended up with an .avi file with no repeated frames. So to me the problem is the handoff between AE & PP. So rendering my AVCHD comps in AE first is my work around for now. Andrew...thanks! I will try your theory of converting the clip prior to the comp asap...right now I am trying to meet a deadline.

  • Motion/opacity (still) not working when using Time Remapping

    Okay: here's my beef. This bug has been around since CS3 and definitely CS4. I was hoping it would be fixed with the arrival of CS5, but apparently it still has not been resolved.
    If you use Time Remapping in PPro, you can't use any of the other keyframing features, such as motion or opacity. If you do, the video simply disappears. Rendering won't help either. The only way to get Opacity to function is to superimpose a bar of black video on top of the clip (or any other color matte if you like it fancy) and have the Opacity on that clip work in reverse. How to get motion within such Time Remapped clips to work is still a bit of a mystery to me...
    Has anyone else found this tedious/annoying/irritating?
    So, dear Adobe, when can we expect a fix for this? Hopefully before CS6...

    I have this same exact problem in CS6.
    It definitely has to do with time remapping. I have used Opacity keyframes EXTENSIVELY in this film I'm editing, and suddenly when I apply time remapping keyframes, I can't use opacity on them. Ouch!
    My solution was (In case someone Googles for a solution and finds this, like I did...)  to delete all effects and time remapping, apply the Opacity Keyframes FIRST and THEN add the time remapping last.

  • Time remapping issue

    I have a clip that I want to play at a regular speed and then slow down at the end. When I make keyframes and adjust them in the time remap menu box I am running into problems with it slowing down to the desired speed but then speeding up the last couple of frames. What gives?
    PS I have already watched Captain Mench's video....

    It's a difficult concept. Your clip is, say, 120 frames, four seconds long. If you change the frame rate to something else, all of those frame must still play. You can get around this at least two different ways. Place your clip in an empty sequence and make your adjustments. Copy and paste only the piece that you want back into your main sequence.
    Or you can place one additional time remap keyframe just a few frames before the end of the clip. This forces all of your unused frames to play between the second and final keyframe.

    I'm doing an Airport destination panel animation.
    I've got a Composition called 'Flip' with Time Remap enabled.Here takes place the whole 'fliping' animation. This comp has got a Text Layer with an expression applied to it.This expression cycles through this line of code=>
    letters = "1|2|3|4|5|6|7|8|9|0|A|B|C|D|E|F|G|H|I|J|K|L|M|N|O|P|Q|R|S|T|U|V|W|X|Y|Z|-|.|/| ";
    So every 5th frame the next Nr./letter appears.Example=> Nr1 appears completely at frame 5,Nr4 at frame 20 and so on.Animation is 4 frames long.
    Now,it would be great to have Time Remap expressions that would do the following=>
    let's say i want to write the word CLOSED=>6 letters
    i now need 6 flip comps for this.Yes,i could now use Time remap keyframes to go to each letter of course.But in my project
    i'd have to do it 400 times or more.
    Is there any way to go to each letter>hold the letter for a specific time and switch to the next letter via expression?

    If one or more of your subcomps doesn't start at time zero as a layer in its parent comp, you have to compensate for that. It's tricky with multiple levels, but basically you end up with something like this:

    Are you kidding me.  I found complicated help and work arounds that would help me to speed up and stabilize a video clip, however, the embarrasing discovery is that a Macintosh proprietary software that comes standard with each Apple computer purchase (Imovie), has a stabilizater and time remapper that works seamlessly.  It was so simple, I can't believe that Adobe hasn't figure that out yet. Waisted 4 hours trying figure out what I accomplished in 5 with Imovie.  Like Whoa!

    The CC warp stabilizer works way better than iMovie's, has many more options, and will stabilize shots that iMovie can't deal with effectively.
    The proper production workflow is to stabilize, render or pre-compose and then time remap. You can do all of this without the render by simply applying warp stabilize to a layer, pre-composing the layer, then applying time remapping to the pre-comp.
    The solution to something not working when you try and apply multiple effects to a single layer is almost always apply the first effect (warp stabilizer) and then pre-compose and apply the other effects. That's how you apply a mask or an effect to a ray traced 3D layer. That's how you stabilize and time remap.

  • Posterize time + time remapping makes video dissappear

    I am trying to duplicate an effect I've used on an avid system, speeding up video then strobing it. I've been using the time remapping to adjust the speed then applying a posterize time effect to achieve the "strobe" look. Half the time it works great, the other half as soon as I put the posterize time effect on the clip (without even adjusting the values), the video dissappears. Changing the time rate doesn't seem to make a difference...happens on clips of varying lengths...no real consistency to when it will do this.

  • HT4623 SOMEHOW the icon for rotation lock is missing from the control bar. I tried to reset but my passcode doesn't work. First, how do I find my passcode? Then, if I reset, will it return the rotation lock to the control bar?

    I don't know how it happened why, but the icon for rotation lock is missing from the control bar. Second problem, the passcode for my iPad isn't working. I wrote it down, so not sure what the problem is. HELP

    If the setting for the rotation lock is missing it is because you are using the side switch to control the rotation in Settings>General>Use Side Switch to>Lock Rotation. The software switch in the control center should be for Muting system sounds.
    you have to restore the iPad in orde to unlock it now.
    iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong ...
    If you are sure that you are entering the correct passcode, reboot the iPad and then try again and see if it is accepted.
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • I remap time then try to keyframe opacity, opacity is not reacting to keyframes properly!

    I'm using PPro CS4 in Vista Home Premium.
    Firstly I have used 'Speed/Duration' to make the speed 150%, then I have applied various time remapping to the clip, and to finish it off I simply want to fade out at the end of the clip, then the next clip on the timeline fades in (so there is a definite dip to 20%), very much like 'dip to black' transition except I only want to dip to 20% and 'dip to black' dips to 0%. So I get it all set up and find that the opacity ramp happens about half way along the clip instead of the end of it and then it stays at 20% for the remainder of the clip. Just for the record, the 'Dip to Black' Transition works as it should do (Dam it!!!).
    I have tried using the opacity adjustment in the 'Alpha Adjust' effect, after the time remapping incase it was a render order problem, but it made no difference...
    It seems like a bug to me, or am I missing something like I usually am? I recall having had this happen once before, and that time I decided to do something different because I could not figure it out.

    Yeah it would do the job but it's a bunch of work to do something that should be basic for PPro Lol. I have used a mix of dip to black and opacity where it does work, it's ok, not end of the world 
    I think they (PPro developers) need to work on two things in PPro (imho, bound to be plenty of others though)
    1/. Time remapping interface is really finicky and difficult to get the hang of, although I am getting it now, but finding it buggy.
    2/. The ability to select multiple clips and adjust things like anti flicker, scale, even just having to click the motion section open for every darn clip is not enjoyable, and doing this is meant to be fun!!!    (if you can shed light on working with multiple clips that would be gold!)
    I came from SonyVegas8C and it is in lots of ways heaps easier to use, it just seems to make a worse job of rendering and packaging and crashes more often.

  • Possible to increase rate of rotation over time?

    I need to simulate something similar to the effect of a car wheel rotating, strictly in 2-D, a totally flat side-view. The complication is that I need the "wheel" to be stopped at first, then slowly ramp up speed over time until it reaches a maximum rate. Is it possible to increase the rate of rotation over time? I have tried creating a constant-rate rotation, then exporting as a Quicktime and applying a speed ramp to the mixdown. This looks terrible.
    Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
    Also, I may post this over at the FCP board, in case anyone there has an idea.

    Actually, that's not true for FCP or Motion. You can set a keyframe at 0 rotation, and then another at the point where you want the rotation to be a full speed and a third keyframe at the end of your animation. Then just right-click the 1st keyframe in the keyframe editor and choose Interpolation: Bezier.
    From there, it's just a matter of adjusting the curve until you have the ramp that you're looking for.
    In FCP, you can add keyframes in much the same way in the Motion tab. Then you right-click the 1st keyframe and choose Smooth from the menu. This will give you a bezier handle that you can adjust to create a ramp.
    I suggest using Motion though as it's a little easier to add and adjust keyframes.

Make sure it's UNLOCKED.

    My system is: Win7, Premiere CS6 (6.0.5), 12GB RAM, etc...
    My project settings:  I'm using 1080p RED timeline.
    Steps:
    Using 4K RED footage with "Scale to frame size" disabled after placing the clip on timeline.
    Under effects time remapping is set to 50%.
    Motion->Scale is keyframed from 50% to 100% to achieve zoom in effect while preserving image quality.
    Clip stays at 50% Scale ignoring the keyframes.
    Problem is present during preview and in the exported file. I tried with CUDA enabled and disabled and problem persists.
    If I turn off Time Remapping, then the clip responds to scaling keyframes.
    Is there any workouround or can this bug be fixed?

    This seems to work but I had to apply TR to the nested sequence and scaling to the original clip.
    Otherwise scaling operations are messed up.
    This situation reminds me of after effects and effects processing order.
