Edit Safari "Frequently Visited" Black List?

Noticed that Safari had a frequently visited site under "frequently visited" but the wrong page. So I removed it hoping it would take the hint and add back the correct landing page. Now even though I visit the site about 10x more frequently than any other site, it never appears on the frequently visited list. Which makes me pretty sure that there's a black list somewhere that contains domains -- root domains -- that have been removed from the frequently visited list. I have no idea where this black list lives. Has anyone delved into Safari deeply enough to uncover the location of this list so I can adjust it?

Hello, bobbygstx.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here are the steps on how to remove frequently visited sites from Safari. This process is similar to deleting favorites.
Bookmark the current page. Tap (or touch and hold ), then tap Add Bookmark.
View your bookmarks. Tap , then tap .
Get organized. To create a folder for bookmarks, tap , then tap Edit.
Add a webpage to your favorites. Open the page, tap the search field, drag down, then tap Add to Favorites.
Quickly see your favorite and frequently visited sites. Tap the Search field to see your favorites. Scroll down to see frequently visited sites.
Edit your favorites. Tap the search field, then touch and hold a page or folder. You can delete the item, or edit it to rename or move it.
Choose which favorites appear when you tap the search field. Go to Settings > Safari > Favorites.
Bookmarks bar on your Mac? Turn on Safari in Settings > iCloud if you want items from the bookmarks bar in Safari on your Mac to appear in Favorites on iPhone.
Save an icon for the current page on your Home screen. Tap , then tap Add to Home Screen. The icon appears only on the device where you create it.
Keep bookmarks
Cheers,
Jason H.

The missing apps could have been done by setting the Restrictions that can hid those apps. If the backup was made with those retrictions set the the Restrictions are also restored.

  • Configure Frequent visited sites in list format

    Hi Internet Explorer Expert,
I have a query here. Usually the frequent visited websites will be shown in series of box icon form and usually we only see 10 icons of frequently visited websites.  Is it possible to change or view the those frequent visited websites in listed
    format?
Thanks so much for the attention
    Regards,
    Henry

Is it possible to change or view the those frequent visited websites in listed format?
The only change allowed is to take stuff out never to be seen again.  E.g. it is probably safe to do that with Survey URL.  You can also change the size of it.  There is a registry hack floating around which does that.  Another option
is to use the History By most visited which is bigger than the normal Frequent list.  You can "edit" that also by removing stuff you don't care to see again.  I don't know if either list gets the idea not to bother showing you similar
things again, e.g. any other surveys in the future.  FWIW I once used it as a suggestion list for promotion to the Favorites Bar (aka Links bar).  Then I would delete it from the Frequent list, never to be seen there again, but then to get the amusement
of seeing what would appear in its place.  I think maybe I should do that again because it is a bit useless seeing the same things in both places.

  • How do I edit the Safari 2 Safe Files list

I need certain filetypes to be auto-opened, usually in my own Automator scripts. With some web searching, I found some information about a plist file that can be edited to add to the list of auto-opening safe files, but this seems to have no effect on my version of Safari. Could someone please post a link that explains how to do this?
    I'm using OS X 10.4.8 and Safari 2.0.4.
    Thanks!
    Daniel

This doesn't apply to me anymore.

  • How do I turn off frequently visited in safari new tab.

How do I turn off frequently visited in safari new tab.  Note, I still want favorites to show.  But I feel it is inappropriate for safari to track frequently visited sites.  I wish I could use private browsing more, but I hate that keychain doesn't work in private mode.  Also, why can't I turn history completely off?

To turn on private browsing, tap Safari, then tap in the lower-right corner. Tap Private to turn private browsing on.
Note: If you're using an iPad, tap , then Private.
Tap again > turn off private.

    Hi,
I just upgraded to Yosemite and Safari is now showing a frequently visited websites box right below the address bar when I start to type something in it. Does anyone know how to deactivate this box? Its rather irritating.
    Thx

Uncheck the box beside "Show Favorites".
I haven't tested this long enough to say that this works always.
    Best.
    Yup, that works.

  • How to disable frequently visited in Safari 8?

This sounds a little weird, but is there a way to seperately turn off the "Frequently Visited" section of the bookmarks in Safari 8 (where you click the URL bar).
I still want my bookmarks to show up, but have that god-awful "Frequently Visited" to be gone.
I do not want to completely disable this and bring back the bookmarks bar.
If this is not possible, that is a really stupid flaw from Apple, and I hope that they fix that in the next update.
    Thanks

You can drag the icones out.

  • How can I turn off "frequently visited" section in Safari?

Hello, I just installed Yosemite and I started immediately hating the new Safari!
How is it possible to stop/delete/cancel the new useless and annoying big window with "frequently visited" sites, with giant useless and anti-privacy icons?

Please add a toggle in the preferences to turn OFF that horrible new feature!

Safari > Preferences > Search > Smart Search Field:
Uncheck the box beside "Show Favorites".

Re: Any one else having trouble w/Safari frequently crashing the last week or two? Any cures? Mine is 4.1.3 Thanks

Please post a copy of the latest crash report.
Go to your Applications Folder and open your Utilities Folder. Open the application Console.
In the left-hand column, click on Crash Reporter.
Click on the small triangle under Crash Reporter in the l/h column and they will all be listed.
Scroll down to the latest Safari report and click on it.
Now click on the r/h column (which now only shows THAT crash report and then Command-a to copy it all.
Come back here and Command-v it to post it here!

  • My frequently visited sites which used to be on a tool bar have disappeared when Firefox upgraded itself in the last few days. How to get them back?

There used to be a bar with my frequently visited sites just below the search bar. It disappeared with the upgrade. How do I get it back? I don't understand the terminology in the help video

Was it the Bookmarks Toolbar? You can display the Bookmarks Toolbar below the main toolbar in a number of ways.
    * right-click a blank area of the tab bar > Bookmarks Toolbar
    * right-click the "+" button on the tab bar > Bookmarks Toolbar
    * tap the Alt key to open the classic menu bar (File, Edit, View), the click View > Toolbars > Bookmarks Toolbar
    Any luck?

  • Ratings in SmartList edit show as a Black Box.

Ratings in SmartList edit show as a Black Box - this has been posted before, but none of the solutions are working. My machine was fine, there had been no changes and this symptom started. I upgraded to 7.02 thinking it might fix it, but it didn't. Existing smart lists still seem to be functioning, but i can not make new ones or edit old ones using Rating.
    The Rating feature is essential.

Also, before the upgrade to 7.02 - the Rating would show blank - after 7.02 it shows a black bar.
I have a mini so probably don't need 7.02 functionality (although wife has a nano) - can we go back? would that work anyway?

  • Frequently visited sites no longer shows

    Hi,
For some reason "Frequently Visited Sites" does not show anymore. All that shows up is "Favorites".  Does anybody know how to re-enable Frequently Visited Sites?  I don't see a Preferences setting for turning it on and off.  It's been off for about a week now.
    Thanks....

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Search tab then select:  Show Favorites

  • Frequently visited website no longer recognizes Firefox browser. Happened same day as upgrade from 18 to 19.

Message from frequently visited website: https://www.mybenefitscalwin.org/
Tells me the website is encrypted; managed by HP; HP history shows I've visited this website 126 times; all appears good, but I get the following message after opening their website, on their screen!
    Browser Not Supported
The Web Browser you are using is not supported by MyBenefits CalWIN. Below is a list of supported browsers.
Microsoft Internet Explorer (versions 8 and above)
    Firefox versions 10 and above
I got this after upgrade from Firefox 18 to 19. Is that the reason?

    Madperson,
This worked beautifully. Sorry for the delay in replying.
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/websites-say-firefox-outdated-or-incompatible#w_workaround-for-broken-websites
I changed the default browser from 19.0 to 18.0 on 2/21. Firefox just updated a few minutes ago (3/9) back to 19.0. The default browser remained at 18.0 after the update, and the website in question is still accessible. So looks like all is well.
    Thank you very much!!!

  • Lost bookmarks and frequently visited tabs after doing a system restore. Easy help? Not a computer whiz.

Last night I tried to download a file converter from IQmango. I was nervous because it was taking so long, so I discontinued it. Not soon enough. AVG toolbar captured my computer and so did a IQmango, which would not let me access my Firefox homepage. Instead of the little fox, I got this green IQmango icon. I did a system restore in frustration of not being able to rid my computer of these hijackers, and in the process, lost my bookmarks and my tabs of recently visited places. Can someone speak to me in plain English and tell me how to get them back. If I can't, it is okay. Just tell me I can't. I tried updating Firefox browser before the restore, and so maybe that is what did it. I've never had this happen before. I have Windows Vista. Windows 6.1 OS, if that helps. If you can give me a 1. you click this; 2. you click that, etc. I would appreciate it. This all started because Windows DVD maker doesn't take an MP3 file!!! Helloooooo Windows!

    (1) Bookmarks
If you go to the bookmark restore menu, are any recent dates listed? You can check that using the steps in this article: [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]].
    (2) Frequently visited tabs
    (A) Do you mean the thumbnails on your "new tab" page? These will be repopulated by your history. But if you had pinned sites here, you might not be able to recover those.
    (B) Do you mean tabs that you kept open from day to day by restoring your previous session where you left off? That data is fragile and might not be recoverable.
Step 1 would be to salvage your sessionstore files and make backup copies before exiting Firefox or making any other changes.
Open your active Firefox profile folder (personal settings folder) using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Copy all files that start with sessionstore to a safe location such as your documents folder.
Does the sessionstore.bak file look as though it has a timestamp of your last good session, or something later or much earlier?
