Edit song information.

In ITunes 11 I am unable to edit song information. I need to
a) add am album name for Italian audio books
b) Add these and others to the Written word genre/ Chagne other genres.
I am not interested in playlists at this time, please do not suggest. Just need to know if it is possible to change genre and add album info.
AND
In the change from 10 to 11 several Podcasts were moved to music. Is it possible to move them back to Podcasts.

Highlight one or more tracks. Press CTRL-I to Get Info. Edit away. If all the fields are greyed out you may have a permissions problem.
Podcasts need an album name. If they don't have one that might explain why they've been "kicked out" of the Podcasts section. A previous build made tracks set to podcast with no album name apparently vanish from all areas of the library. Having set an album name you should be able to change the media kind to Podcast and have it stick. Might be best to set the genre to Podcast also.

  • Can't edit song information in itunes

I suddenly have not been able to edit song information, using file, edit, get info.
The areas to edit have been grayed out. Is there some setting i inadvertantly changed?

I just switched over to a Mac
    This is the Windows forum.
You should post in the correct forum here -> iTunes for Mac
Anyway, select the \Music\iTunes\ folder, right click - get info.
Make you you have Read and Write permissions.

  • Tab between fields when editing song information

iTunes 10.4 removed the ability to tab between fields when editing song information. Is there another shortcut now?

Yes, I know EXACTLY what you mean. Actually the Tab sequence was reversed in 10.4. I'm upset that it took me until Septeber 2011 to figure it out. For the longest time, probably every release of iTunes. The Tab sequence went (Source-->Tab-->Search Music box-->Tab-->Tracks List)
Now it's the reverse and it's so annoying. I have both Mac and Windows and was able to downgrade my Windows iTunes to 10.3.x (though I had to downgrade to a previous iTunes Library.itl file. I cannot downgrade my Mac iTunes b/c it's my main library and I'd lose historic data by restoring and old iTunes Library.itl file
I've written to Apple about this several times the past few weeks but they've yet to address this. The latest version is 10.5 and it hasn't been restored. I WISH Apple would RESTORE this feature to its ORIGINAL design!!!

  • Editting song information

    Hey guys.
My problem is as written as the title, editting song information. I am unable to edit song information, such as lyrics, artist, etc. of my music files through iTunes. According to the other discussions, unchecking the "read only" option from the files in Window Explorer will enable me to edit the song information, but when I checked, none of my music files were marked "read only" in the first place!
I'd be glad to hear any possible solutions, so please post below
Information about my operating system is provided in the post.

  • I can't edit song information the problem is not in all the items

I can't edit the information of my songs like gnre, artist, etc... when I start to use itunes I had another computer, when I change of computer I decide to copy my library to a external hard disk, I don't know if this is creating the problem, will be great to receive help.

Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows Vista/7 shouldn't be too different.
If it won't let you change the permissions use the Owner tab to take ownership from an account with administrator privileges.

  • Can't edit song information in ITunes library

I've imported a CD as MP3's and am unable to edit the track information. When I right click a song and open "Get Info" the song information is visible but not editable. This is the first time something like this has happened and I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

Since you say this is the first time it has happened, I assume you are going to the "Info" tab and not the "Summary" tab in the "Get Info" window? (That has confused me at times.)

  • Editting song information problems

I am unable to edit the names of songs, artists etc. I always did it before by clicking once on the song name to select it, waiting a second or so and clicking again to highlight just the name and cause the cursor to blink so I could erase the name and type a new one. That doesn't work now, so I went to iTunes help and tried rightclicking and choosing Get Info. When I click on the info tab, the information is there but is faded out so I am unable to click on it to select it and change it. Not sure if I pushed a button on my computer that caused this to happen but it's definitely a possibility. How can I edit song names?

  • Itunes pause sorting while editing song information

I am going through my song library and manually updating song information like genre, artist name, etc.  Is there a way to pause the live updating of the sorting list while I am doing this so that when I change the title of a song or the genre it doesn't automatically resort the list.

No. Sort the list on a field you're not changing, or copy everything to a playlist, sort it the way you want it, right-click on the playlist name and click Copy to Play Order, then sort on the heading of the left-most column of number.
Generally you'll want to assign all of the tracks from the same album the same genre. This is more usefully done with the multi-track get info dialog rather than one track at a time.

  • IPod Touch won't sync/edit song information Windows 7 64

I've experienced multiple problems after connecting my new Touch to my laptop. First, I think my computer was attempting to sync to the device, but my Touch remained unresponsive. I found that I was able to get the two to sync to each other if I disconnected my wireless mouse that was plugged into one of my usb ports while the sync was occurring. After getting past that first obstacle, I found that at some times, I would be able to sync music to my device through iTunes, but at the moment, I can't do so. After managing to place a few songs on the device, I attempted to change the information to a some tracks and change the album art, but after trying to apply these changes, I received a message saying that an unknown error had occurred (0xe8004006). I've spent the better part of two days scouring the internet to find a solution, but I've found nothing definitive. I've found suggestions that it could be something regarding the computer's usb. I've tried reinstalling iTunes, restoring my Touch (when that decides to work), updating my usb drivers, disabling usb enhanced host controller (as was suggested while I looked for a solution), and probably a few other things. But like I said, I've found nothing definitive. Any help would be appreciated.

Having the exact same issue as the OP....really frustrating. I'm also using win7 64bit. I have tried reinstalling iTunes as well as resetting my iTouch back to factory.
Whenever I try to sync my iTouch or add music I get errors such as:
    1) "Attempting to copy to the disk "My iTouch" failed. A duplicate filename was specified."
    2) "iTunes could not copy "[insert song title]" to the iPod "My iTouch" because an unknown error occured (-48)."
    3) "The iPod "My iTouch" could not be synced. A duplicate file name was specified."
    4) "The iPod "My iTouch" cannot be synced. An internal device error has occurred."
It seems as if all of these issues are related to people using 64bit win7. Any insight on how soon until this problem is fixed or alternative methods to add music to my brand new 32g iTouch would be much appreciated.

  • Editing song information

I have downloaded a bunch of music (mostly live shows) that I am now trying to go back and edit the song/artist information associated with each song. A have two questions:
one, I assumed that itunes would work like a spreadsheet and allow me to edit multiple rows (eg songs) at once by dragging a single change across multiple rows. It appears that you have to go into each song individually through the "get info" path? true? seems pretty clunky?
Second question - some songs I am able to edit information through "get Info" but other songs (from the same source) the text fields are grayed out and I am not able to edit text? How can that be? Consider 10 songs from a live show - 5 of which I could edit, and the other 5 which were grayed out making the current text not editable? What gives?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated. thank you.

    About the first question:
iTunes uses Windows selection option, so just ctrl+click to select more than one item, or shift+click to select a range of items. Be careful, because if you change, say the track name, all of those items will have the same name.
About the editing, the most likely thing is a Read-Only protection on the files. Right click on one of them, hit Show File, then right click>properties, uncheck 'read only'.

  • How do you edit song information on itunes lists?

I cannot change the genre, or any other information that appears on my itunes list. I "Get Info" from the "Edit button, but it won't let me make changes. I did this last summer so I know it can be done. I have a new computer with VISTA, could this make a difference?

Sometimes Windows will mark files read-only, such as when they've been moved around a network or taken off a disk. Read-only files can't be edited in iTunes. To see if your file is read-only, select it in iTunes and press Ctrl-R. Right-click the file, and choose Properties. Remove any checkmark next to read-only. This technique works on a whole group of files too, so you could quickly remove the checkmark from all your songs if you need to.

  • Why can't I edit song information? How do I fix this?

I just upgraded to the latest itunes version and with songs that have been added since that time, I cannot edit the info for the songs.  Any ideas?

Change it in iTunes, not on the iPhone. Then sync the iPhone to transfer this new info to the iPhone.

  • ITUNES WON'T LET ME EDIT SONG INFORMATION!!!

I want to edit the song infomation. but when i go to Get info and the folder where the artist, album, track numbers, etc. it won't let me change any of that. how do i get rid of this because i can't manage any of my music

Make sure they are not read-only. You might also need to take ownership and full control in vista permissions.

  • Can not edit song information.

I have a huge amount of cd's that I have backed up on my external hard drive. I have added them to my iTunes library and play them regularly with no issues. I want to make some edits to the songs in the "Get Info" section but some songs are grey'd out and will not allow me to make changes.
    Does anyone know why?
thanks in advance for our help.

The usual cause is that the files have become set to Read Only. Go into Windows, right-click one of the files, look at Properties. If Read-Only is checked, uncheck it.
If that doesn't do it, the problem may be permissions on the folders rather than the files, in which case we will try to call in Dr. Katrina.
