Edit Tab Order Bug??

I've upgraded from CVI 8.1 to CVI 2010 a short while back, and while working on a project recently, I noticed that the Edit Tab Order functionality no longer seems to work properly.  I still have 8.1 installed on the same PC.  If I open an old project in 8.1 and edit tab order, everything works just fine.  I can set a value in the "Click to set" box and point to the control that I want to set and the value is applied.  However, if I do the same thing in CVI 2010, when clicking on a control that I want to set, the value is NOT set and the other control tab order values get all screwed up.  I've seen the issue on a 64bit Windows 7 Laptop as well as a 32bit Windows XP computer.
Is this a known bug??  I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.  Should it be reported someplace else?   This essentially makes the Tab Order functionality useless, and is a bit frustrating on a panel with a large number of controls.
Thanks!

I figured out my issue, and it is actually consistent in both v8.1 and 2010.  The issue is that I have a Decoration Frame around a group of controls.  When previously testing in v8.1, I did not have a frame around the controls.  That's why it worked.
So... Once a frame was inserted (in either version of CVI), any controls that the frame surrounded could no longer be selected in the Edit Tab Order window.  Selecting ANYWHERE inside the frame only selects the frame tab order and NOT any control inside the frame.  After a little trial and error, I found that this was related to the Z-Plane order of the frame.  The frame is a bit misleading in that all the controls are clearly visible inside, but the frame still lies ON TOP of them.  Once I selected the frame and "Arrange>Control ZPlane Order>Move to Back", I could then edit the tab order of the interior controls as expected in the Edit Tab Order window.
Sorry for any confusion.  Hopefully my little snafu might help someone else at some point in the future.

  • Setting tab order in Acrobat 9

This is the first time I'm trying to set the tab order in a PDF created in Acrobat 9. I am used to the previous versions where all you had to do was click through the fields to set their order, Adobe seems to have changed it to be much more cumbersome requiring you to drag the fields in the field list. I can see where this might be useful in certain cases, but I would like to still be able to edit the tab order the older way. For larger more complicated documents, it's just much easier to do it this way for me. Is this impossible in newer versions, or am I missing something?
I tried opening the file in Acrobat 8 on another machine, and the 'Edit Tab Order' command is greyed out for this file, so I'm guessing that editing in 9 must change the file to make it incompatible to edit this way.
If anyone has any insight on a way to easily edit the tab order in version 9, or to allow the file to be edited in version 8, I would be grateful for any assistance.

Yes, I do have the Select Object tool active. (The 'Edit Fields' menu option doesn't show up unless that tool is active)
I have tried to edit the PDF on my Mac and PC, and in both cases, all of the menu options under the 'Edit Fields' menu, including the option to set the tab order, are greyed out.
I did a quick test and copied the fields into a new document, and the menu was available, so I may be able to get this working by opening a new copy of the original PDF and pasting the fields I have set up into that document. I hope this works, because my estimated time that I will spend rearranging the fields is about 25-30 seconds per field which would equate to about 1-1.5 hours of work just to set the Tab Order!! That's compared to about 2-3 minutes or so (at max 5 minutes). With all of the checkboxes, text fields and combo boxes, there are roughly 250 or so fields on this form.
Thanks. If you have any other suggestions, let me know.

  • "Tab" control and Tab order of controls inside the tab

    Hello everybody,
I have created the tab control with 6 'tabs', inside every tab I have some controls, like edit fields etc. I wanted to make an order of controls for every tab, so I have selected the option "Tab-order settings" from menu "Edit" (sorry for translation, I use non-English version of LabView), and tried to set the order. After saving it with "OK" button it turned out that the order is not changed. Simple it seems that the option doesn't work for controls in tabs. Is this a bug or do you have a solution for this?
    TIA,
    Yazilim.

Sorry LabviewGuru, but I haven't found anything concerning Tab control and tab order inside it. Of course, I have found the topic "tabbing through front panel objects", but it simply describes how to change order for standard controls, not for controls which are inside the Tab control. But maybe you have another, extended help? So can you please copy and paste to discussion forum message this part of your help which concerns the Tab control and tab order, and then send the message?
    TIA,
    Yazilim.

  • 30EA2 - SQL-Developer 3.0.02 Another Table Data Sort Order Bug

Although the "30EA1 - SQL-Developer 3.0.02 Table Data Sort Order Bug" still exists in 30EA2, there is a new substantial mistake.
    How to see it:
Open table1 (Preference "Automatically Freeze Object Viewer Windows" is set). Click data.
    Open table2. Click data.
Go back to table1. Click Sort. => You see the columns of table2. The is no way to sort table1, before you close the table2 window (tab).

  • Tab order lost in IE

    Hi,
I have an editable table which includes LOVs and inputtext boxes. When I press tab and navigate to a particular row and particular component say an LOV. I press enter at the search icon and select a value in the popup. When the control/focus comes back to the table/page, its next tab order is missed and starts again from the first element in the DOM. Now I have to come again all the way from the first to get the next component in the order.
I interestingly find this one only is IE browsers, while in Fire fox the control comes to the same LOV as soon as the the selection is made in the popup. Please do provide an solution since IE is the main targeted in mine.
    thanks & regards,
    Vijai

    Hi,
appears that the tab key does not set the row as current on IE. So this is a focus problem which i would consider a bug if it reproduces. Can you provide a test case based on the Oracle HR schema for me to test and file a bug (unless you want to file a bug in which case you get feedback on the bug status through support)? If you want to send a testcase, zip it up and rename the zip extension to unzip. Then send me a mail (mail address in my OTN profile) with a pointer to this thread. If it reproduces for me I could file a bug.

  • Is Set Tab Order Broken in Acrobat 8.x Pro?

I can't seem to get it to work. Even when the automatic tab order setting is done and it is numbered correctly, when I switch to Preview and also save/close/re-open in Preview, the tab order is what it was before. When I go to Edit Layout, the tab ordering numbering shows correctly for all fields, but back in Preview, it goes out of whack in the same way.

Yes, I had already tried saving and even closing and re-opening. The Set Tab Order interface does not even operate in a fashion the user would expect. When replying to the alert question about automatic vs. manual setting of the interface, then randomly clicking fields, at one point the order stops changing once a field is selected. A text field becomes the LAST numerical field when it is selected, rather than starting at one and proceeding in ordinal fashion.
I am convinced that this feature is bug-ridden based on my attempts to work with it and given the numerous posts "commenting" on this very feature.

  • How do I get Meas. Studio controls to follow tab order?

All of the standard MFC controls follow tab order but the NI controls do not. In particular I am usingg the CNi NumEdit controls. Once the user selects the control it is stuck in the control until they use the mouse to click in the next control.

I am having this problem as well. I'm using visual C++ with windows 2000. My tab order works fine if I take out the NI number edits and replace them with standard Visual C++ edit boxes. However, when the NI number edits are in my program, they act like a black hole for the cursor. The only way to get out of one is by using the mouse. This is a problem because the technicians using my software don't use a mouse. I'm tempted to use standard VC++ edit boxes and convert the text to floating point decimal myself. Can anyone shed some light on this situation? I've checked the sample code, it doesn't seem to work either. Maybe its a windows 2000 bug?

  • Setting tab order to form fields contained within a table, Indesign CS6

I have created a form in ID CS6, and have put all the tabs in order so that people can easily navigate it when filling it in. However, all of the form fields that are contained within tables are not in order, and I can't find any way of putting them in order without changing them in acrobat after I have made the interactive PDF. This means that every time my client makes changes to the form I have to manually put all the fields in order again, which is time consuming. Is anyone able to help?

This tab order dialogue box is nearly useless if you have a complex form with hundreds of form fields as there is no way to interact with the document when the dialogue is open and clicking on an entry in the list does not highlight the respective field. Furthermore, if you have arrays of radio buttons, or check boxes acting like radio buttons, ie all with the same form field name, there's no way to know which order they should be arranged in since they can't be selected or identified while this dialogue is open!
That is immensely frustrating to say the least.
It's quite ridiculous that Adobe hasn't fixed this bug in years and this user interface is shockingly bad.

  • How can I set the tab order of text box controls on each page of a tab control?

I need to be able to select the tabbing order of individual controls on a single page of a tabbed control. How??

In LV 6.1 an up you should be ablel to right click on the edge of the tab control when the tab-page in question is selected.
The bttom selcetion in the pop-up is "Reoder controls in page..."
selecting this option will switch editing modes to allow you to specify the ored, just like in a cluster.
I seem to remeber in older versions you had to drag the tabable controls off the tab control, specify the tabbing oder and then drag them back on. The oldest version I have on this machine is 6.1 so that all I can speak for at the moment.

  • Setting tab order/reading order of a form.

I have created a survey with fillable form fields and saved as a PDF. When I tab through the form to fill it out many of the radio buttons get skipped. Also, when using VoiceOver to read the form it does not read the form fields in the correct order, however it does read the text correctly. I have used the Order tab to set the tab order of the form fields but this does not appear to make any difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply!  Based on your suggestion I did a little experimenting.
This is a form saved to Enable User Rights so PDF viewers can fill out and email or save the form.   After seeing your question, I opened the form for editing (actually saving a copy first that was not restricted, and editing the copy).  I then toggled the Tab Numbers on via Tools > under the Forms header I clicked Edit > Other Tasks > Edit Fields > Show Tab Numbers.  After revealing the tab numbers I then tried to save the form as a Reader Extended PDF, but the Enable Additional Features option was grayed out.  Even if I wanted to, I could not save the form with the tab numbers revealed.
The form itself was also received by our company electronically and when viewed does not show the tab number order and when we print it, it prints as expected (no tab order numbers).
We are suspecting that this may be an issue either with the end users printer? Or possibly viewing and printing via an alternate viewer like Foxit?
Anybody run across this odd behavior?

  • Guidelines, Form Fields and Tab Order

I've been fighting a form for about two weeks now with Acrobat 9 Pro. I used guidelines to make sure I could get 2 buttons and a field aligned properly. I have 92 instances of this arrangement. When I reopened the file after I had worked on it for a couple of hours (precisely positioning the guidelines so that I could have consistent field sizes), the guides were gone. What happened. It has now happened three times. I ended up keeping the computer on for 5 days just because I didn't want to lose the guides.
I'm having a similar problem with the selection for tab order. I have right clicked on the page on the left panel, chosen page properties and set tab order to unspecified. I then reorder the fields in the field panel and save the file. When I open the file again, the tab order is unchecked and the fields are not in the order I left them.
Does anyone have any idea why I'm losing my sanity with this Acrobat form. I did it in Acrobat because I thought it would be easier than LiveCycle Designer.
I am duplicating a print form. This means there are 92 places where I have a small button (visible but doesn't print) which executes a JavaScript when pressed to show another button (because it has an icon which will circle the date indicated in a field. I'm thinking I should have the small button on top, aligned on the bottom with the field for the date and the circle icon as the bottom button. How do I get all of these fields and buttons (a mere 276) to go in the right order and stay that way?

In the left panel, in the Sort drop-down list, you have Tab Order selected, right? In the Tab Order drop-down list, is Order Tabs Manually selected?
I am not able to get any menu by right-clicking on the page in the left panel. Can anyone tell me, is there another way to view the page properties while in Form Editing? I'm not finding it in any of the regular menus (menu bar) and I'd like to verify the setting Warren mentioned, for troubleshooting my own problems with tab order.
EDIT -- Of course, as soon as I type it out, I discover the cause. I thought he meant the page in the Form Editing view, but no, I have to open the Pages view and right-click on each page. (Oddly, no options were selected at all. Usually a radio button set will default to the most popular option.) So -- sorry, never mind me.

  • CC Acrobat XI crashing when moving fields in tab order

    Using Mavericks 10.9.2, Acrobat 11.0.06
When editing a form PDF, if I try to move fields in the tab order (I have tab numbers showing) acrobat crashes.
I tried the search fix but that does not help.
Using the windows version of Acrobat through CC works and does not crash with the same file.

You may have a better chance to get a helpful reply if you ask in the Acrobat forum.

  • Tab Order in Visual Composer Input Form

    Hi,
I am trying to set the tab order on my visual composer input form.  I enter a number in "tab order" but it does not seem to have any effect on the tab sequences.  Tabbing is sequential when I set layout to "horizontal" or "vertical" but not for "absolute".  I would like to use the absolute layout - does anyone know why I cannot control tab order?
    Thanks.
Edited by: Patti Gray on Jul 31, 2009 2:13 AM

    Hi
Normally 'Tab order' works fine for all the fields & it works as per given in SAP Library. But sometimes it doesn't work so there is workaround which i tried & it works fine in my case. IN the form you have created all the fields, just hide all the fields. & then select one by one as per the sequence you want. It works.
You can go to 'Layout Board' & there also you can arrange the sequence.
Have i understood your problem correctly? or you are looking for something else.

  • Tab order shows correctly, but doesn't work in PDF

Does anyone else have the problem, or know how to solve it, where you go through and set up the tab order correctly numbers for each page, but then when you tab through the preview pdf or the saved pdf, it will jump between pages instead of going through the tab order you just setup?  I'm completely frustrated, as it seems to work with some perfectly, barely work with some, and sometimes if i take a working form and add even just one text box, it blows the entire tab order out.

Thanks everybody.  I went through and checked the aligning of the hundreds of checkboxes i have.  I also had to end up giving names to some of my pages and
subforms to help fix the issue.  honestly i can't tell what fixed it but i think a combination of all them helped.  maybe it was too confused with so many unnamed subforms, checkboxes, etc.
I think it'd be a huge win for Adobe if for the next version they could just fix the bugs and try automating/making things easier.  it took forever to design this and with a high learning curve.
