Edit the auto-correction suggestion words

Hello,
Is there a way to edit the words that are suggested by the iphone ?
Thanks

iOS learns new words much faster than it unlearns them, unfortunately. But I have just stumbled on a way to help an iPhone (or other iPad, iPod touch, etc.) unlearn a word it has mistakenly learned. This requires iOS 5.0 or higher.
Suppose your young daughter thought it would be fun to type "yöü" instead of "you". Sure enough, after a few times the phone learns that when you type "you", or "yoi", "yu", "tou", "tiu", etc., you really mean "yöü". (Grr.) The cleanest way to unlearn this is to go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary. The problem with this, of course, is that it resets everything that it has learned about your typing, which you may not want to do.
Here is the workaround to unlearn a specific wrong word:
1) Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Add New Shortcut...
2) In the phrase field, enter the correct word (e.g., "you")
3) In the Shortcut field, enter the keystrokes that tend to bring up the incorrect word (e.g., "yoi").
4) Tap Save.
5) Repeat steps 2-3 for each set of keystrokes that tends to product the unwanted word (e.g., "yu", "tou", "tiu", etc.).
6) Open a new note in the Notes app and test. You'll see the proper word now gets suggested instead of the incorrect one.
Interestingly, if you then go back to Settings > General > Keyboard and delete the shortcuts you added above (by stroking them out with your finger and tapping Delete), and then repeat step 6, you'll see that the phone appears to have largely unlearned its bad habit. It seems that adding the shortcuts helps override the learned behavior, even after the shortcut is deleted. But you certainly don't need to delete the added shortcuts if they are not bothering you.
For good measure you can also add a shortcut with the correct word ("you") in the phrase field and the incorrect one (e.g., "yöü" in the shortcut field). I'm not sure if this helped, but based on my theory above it might help too. All I know is I did all of the above and now the incorrect word rarely (but not quite never) gets proposed when typing. Yay!

I am using an LG G2 running the latest Android software and have no personal dictionaries stored. Thanks.

Try tapping on or near the word and see if you can make an a adjustment.!
As an added suggestion: You might try this go into your user settings find Language and Input or similar, Tap on that and go into your keyboard settings see if has the option to to uncheck spell checker or if there is an option to uncheck auto correct.. see if that helps this issue..

  • I was in a waiting room and turned off my auto correct speaking feature.  Now it will not turn back on.  I went to General, Accessibility, and turned on Speak Auto-text.  Do I need to do anything access to reactivate the verbal correction suggestions?

I turned off the verbal auto correction suggestions on my iPhone 5.  Now, it will not turn back on.  I went to General, Accessibility, and turned on Speak Auto-text.  Do I need to do anything else to reactivate the verbal suggested corrections.

  • Text auto-correct grabbing words from gmail / etc.

I'm not sure if this is a Gingerbread issue, but this is a problem that I was introduced to when I got my Xperia PLAY.
The on-screen QWERTY keyboard lends itself to frequent typos.  Since I started using the Xperia, the auto-correct dictionary has been automatically synced and populated with various words that it apparently grabbed out of my gmail, email, contacts, address book, or elsewhere.   This includes names, segments of email addresses, already misspelled words, etc.
This has made the auto-correct function useless on my phone, and makes text messaging a convoluted and futile chore that' I'd simply rather not do.
For example, when I'm trying to send a text to someone asking them, "what time?"  -- I commonly typo "time" as "timr."
Now, auto-correct on my Xperia always wants to change "timr" into "TimeBomb4321" -- which is a segment of an email address out of my address book.
And, there's apparently no way to turn this off.
There's no way to toggle this under "Accounts & sync."
"User Dictionary" under Settings only includes words that I have manually added to it.
    HOW DO I FIX THIS???

    Hi chuckk,
I understand the importance of having a streamlined text experience.  I would suggest deleting some of the auto-saved words from the dictionary. Settings>Language & Keyboard>User Dictionary.  Press on hold the word you no longer want and the select delete.  I am hopeful this information is helpful.  Please let me know if you need further assistance.

  • How do I add an entry to the auto correct spell check dictionary?

How do I add an entry to the auto-correct dictionary for spell check?

The suggestion from Encrypted11 is for adding a keyboard shortcut, if that is what you want to do. If you want to add a custom word to the keyboard dictionary ....
    The iPad Dictionary
The iPad has a dictionary built in. As you type, it compares what you've typed against the words in that dictionary. If it finds a partial match, it displays a suggestion just beneath what you have typed.
If you accept the suggestion by tapping the Space or full stop, great.
If you allow the 'mistake' to stand, the second time you type the same word and reject the correction, iPad adds the new word to its custom, dynamic dictionary. From now on, it will accept the new word and will even suggest it the next time you type something like it.
    That is copied from here.

  • Editing the auto complete dictionary?

Hello All, Was wondering if there's a way to edit the auto complete dictionary on the E6/Symbian ^3/Symbian Anna? There is an auto complete dictionary editor available from Beta labs, but is incompatible with the E6. I seem to remember that the trick in earlier versions of Symbian phones was to connect the phone in USB mass storage mode and then edit a file. Don't remember the name of the file at the moment. Does any one remember this? Thanks!

  • How do you turnoff the auto correct feature in messaging?

The auto correct feature in Messaging often changes what I'm typing to the wrong word.  How do I turn off that feature?  It is really annoying!!!
    Bill

Hey Bill that is pretty annoying which is why I use Swift key as my keyboard. To turn off the feature,  go to settings>language and input. To the right of "Samsung keyboard" is a gear icon. Click on that.  Then click on auto replacement. Click on the on button up at the top right and it should go to off. Let me know if that works for ya.

  • Spell check is too sensitive.. Is there a way to have it alert the word is misspelled without the auto-correct?

Currently you can auto-correct then check spelling or not.  There needs to be an inbetween.. anyone know of anything????

Yes, go into your settings>general>keyboard the turn off Auto-Correction.

  • How do I turn off the auto correct "annoyance"?

It is become a nuissance rather than a help. If it worked like Windows where it just underlined words it thinks are inccorrect, instead of automatically changing them.
    Thanks for the help.

Actually, the phone does both - separate functions.
    To disable auto-correction:
    Settings > General > Keyboard > Auto-Correction > OFF

  • How do I turn off the Auto Correct in Spell Checker

I turned this on thinking I would like it but now it is driving me nuts because I can't turn it off. When I go back into Edit/Spelling & Grammar, all of my options are grayed out. I can see where it auto correction is checked to turn it on but it is grayed out so I can't turn it off.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Which application are you referring to? Mail? If it's Mail, go to Preferences, click on composing, and choose "never" under Check Spelling. If it's a different application, please let us know which one it is; in most cases, you should have options in that app's preferences.
    This is in Apple Mail.
Actually the command comes under the "Edit/Spelling and Grammar" menu and as I mentioned, all the options, one of which is auto correct, are grayed out and therefore not accessible to me.

  • Please can someone tell me how to swtch off the auto correct spell check option?

Can someone please explain to me how to turn off the auto spell check option? the one when it auto corrects? thanks! im desperate!

I believe that you turn off that spelling feature in the individual program that you use. Go to the edit menu of the application being used and see if there is a spelling feature listed. If there isn't, it may be that this feature is an integral part of the application and is located in the preferences, and you'll find it there. This would need to be done for each program you want to use that is bothering you with auto spelling correction. I don't believe there's a general setting for autocorrect that works across programs.

  • Is it possible to disable the auto-correct on an ipod touch?

Was planning to order an ipod touch. Primarily to use for email whilst travelling. But I can't stand auto correct or predictive text. I always forget to check if the auto feature has changed what I wrote to something totally different! Can anyone tell me if there's a way to disable this feature on an ipod touch?

Yes, in fact there is a way. On the iPod, tap Settings. Then, go to General. Scroll down and tap Keyboard. Tap Auto-correction and it should turn off, unless it is already off - then this will just turn it back on. You can put auto-correction on or off anytime you want. Hope this helped (:

  • AHHHH! How do I turn off the "auto indent" in Word?

Auto indent probably isn't the correct term, but I don't know what else to call it. I'm trying to write a paper, and for my works cited I need to indent certain lines. Well, it indents the whole paragraph and not just one line. So how do I turn this auto-indent off, because it's driving me insane and frankly I can't turn in my paper the correct way.
