Edit to Tape timecode out-of-sync
I've looked around the forum but haven't found anything on this that could solve my problem. My setup is a new Dual Core Power MacG5, Sony DSR-25, and output via Fire-Wire.
Whenever I output my video to tape, a drop-frame stop is inevitable (don't know why but it happens). But when I match the sequence timecode up with the video timecode in order to resume recording (even going as far as matching what the current frame looks like onscreen), it doesn't match up correctly...it's always off. There doesn't even seem to be a consistent number of frames or seconds that it is off by.
I need to get these sync'd spot-on. So if anyone could help me with this, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason

I'm trying to layoff a ProRes 422 720p sequence to my Panasonic Standard Def AJSD93 deck. I have it downconverted thru my AJA i/o box...but for some reason when I open edit to tape and go to drop my sequence on the drop zone for assemble or insert...BOTH are greyed out. Any ideas what could be going on???
Thanks in advance for your help!Did you ever use this deck for insert or assemble whatever signal?
Because a quick google gave me this : " ...this deck can't be used to insert edit.
The output of an edited sequence from Avid or Final Cut Pro onto tape can only be done as a straight recording from the editing application, so the timeline's timecode can't be accurately transferred to the tape...."
(see
http://www.dv.com/reviews/reviews_item.php?articleId=161502534
for the complete review.)
So it seems the only way to this is "print to video"...

I have Dual 2.7 G5 with a Kona IO box. I laid off a couple of shows last night no problem and i come back today to finish up and my Edit to tape is grayed out. I restarted the computer and Kona box and no difference. I tried connecting it to different decks and different projects that worked in the past and nothing. Any suggestions.
Thanks
DaveI thought you had to have a sequence highlighted in the browser window for edit to tape to be active.
re 422 and/firewire machine control. For some strange reason some manufacturers allow editing over firewire but do not have sufficient protocols for edit over 422 serial unless the deck is "edit capable". thus it appears 422 is for capture. You can edit over 422 if the destination deck is edit capable. you can edit to a dbeta deck with kona2 using 422 because of the deck's capability -
Edit to Tape playing out different sequence
Hello
Does anyone know why when I try to play out one sequence using Edit to Tape it begins playing out another? I drag my sequence called 'PLAYOUT' into the Insert option, yet a different sequence from the same project starts to record on my tape. I'm completely confused! This has happened to me once in the past, though the sequence that wanted to play out was not even in the same project. Trashing prefs should solve your problem. I was never able to figure out any other way to fix it.

Edit to tape - timecode mismatch between timeline & output tape (Digi Beta)
I'm trying to edit to tape (insert) a programme. The clock drops in on exactly the right frame but by the time I get to the end of part there's a 2 frame difference between my timeline TC and the master tape's TC. In other words my timeline ends at 11.30.00 but when I play back the recorded tape the same frame is now 11.30.02. Is there a) an explanation for this and b) a solution? I need frame accuracy as I'm exporting my audio to OMF for the dub. Any advice hugely appreciated. Thanks. J

Dual 2.7 G5 Mac OS X (10.4)Jeremy,
Wish I could offer more help other than to say Blackmagic is usually pretty quick with a fix once they identify there is a problem. We're in Sydney, and had some problems with dropped frames a couple of years ago, and they did some very quick testing and realised that they hadn't tested there new drivers with Batch digitise - point is, they issued a fix (updated driver) extremely quickly.
Go through your supplier and see if you can get their ear, especially if you can identify the problem happening consistently.

I captured a 12 minutes clip using Capture Now in FCE 3.5 from my PAL camcorder Canon MVX4i (=Optura 600).
This is the first time it happens to me: the captured clip has the audio portion out of sync with respect to the video by 5 frames. So, the audio is consistently 5/25 fps = 0.2 seconds late during the whole clip. Unfortunately, this is quite visible when people are speaking.
As a workaround I set the clip in the timeline, unlinked the audio, shifted the video portion forward by 5 frames, marked the clip in sync and relinked (BTW it took me a while to find out that 5 was the right value: lot of tests adding and subtracting a frame at the time, and listening ...)
I doubt the cause is the camera, so my question is: what is the cause of this out of sync ?
Thanks
Piero
Some additional info.
I used the same setup I've been using so far: camera directly connected to the iMac, capture to an external firewire hard drive, use of Capture Now just because it's faster with short movies. Tha movie was shot with 16 bit audio. The shift is the same all along the clip.Hi Ian,
I'll check tonight once more, just to be sure. I doubt though, because being aware of the possible impact of the 32KHz, I am usually careful. But I also know that editing after 11 pm is not recommended to me... I might do silly mistakes...
In any case, I'm afraid there is a problem with the tape. Could a damaged tape causes out of sync during capture ?
Thanks

Quicktime clips out of sync in Premiere CC 2014
Just downloaded the latest update to quicktime 7 pro and all my imported quicktime files are playing in slow-mo in premiere CC 2014? I restarted after the install on my pc running windows 7. Anyone else having this problem, makesquic it real hard to edit. All clips out of sync.
I've had the same issue on one of the computers where I am. A slightly older Mac Pro that's worked fine with no issues until this. Latest Premiere CC installed, footage is Prores with two separate mono tracks, 720, 59.94. That edit suite is using an AJA board for external monitoring.
The weird thing is that when troubleshooting, I brought the project over to my new Mac Pro and the project plays fine.
I went through the premiere preference settings looking for anything that looks like it'd be able to help, as well as the AJA app. The problem definitely is introduced when footage is imported into Premiere as it plays fine in quicktime before import, though exports from Premiere pro are out of sync. -
Timecode Torment continued, Still out of sync Online.
Hi there. I have just performed a timecode offset to compensate for my out of sync online. This was made possible with the advice of Rienk, who suggested that I find an obvious point in my OfflineEdit Reel 01 and the Reel in the Deck and sync the timecodes. However After onlining again, I have noticed that the footage is only synced in parts. After making comparrisons with the timecodes of the offline and the deck I have noticed that the offset increases over the duration of the tape. One comparrioson half way through the tape showed a diffenrced in TC of 4 frames while 10 minutes on the differnce was 15 frames. Now I think I have every right to be very paniced. I am not equiped to deal with this sort of thing. I don't know what to do and the Machine room is a huge mess. At what point to I have to reEdit, or Bring in an entire tape uncompressed and piece together those parts which are not in sync. Could this be a result of using multiclip to edit? Why do these things happen to people, why do the mathematical demons pick on me.
If you have any answers, suggestions, good places to hide, or can recommend a good home for the bewildered, please let me know
Sincrely
PeterHi, I am experiencing some of the same issues. I am wondering about your sources/assets... how they were recorded? Are they all imported into FCP? I record mostly live events and frequently use external audio recording devices other than cameras. In post, all the audio must be synchronized before I begin editing the multi-cam project. I have tested the audio recording of my cameras and multi-track computer software. I find that over the time span of one hour the cameras (and audio) remain in perfect sync while the computer multi-track recording may be off by several frames. Although the recording is in perfect at the begining, over the period of one hour, sync is lost. Audio software applications have the ability to "correct" this problem by "stretching" or "shrinking" the audio track based on the offset.

Timecode captured is out of sync
I have just been working on a project that I have been offlining on FCP HD with footage shot on Digibeta capturing on a Targa Cinewave4.6 RT.
I exported an EDL for an online- when we took the footage to online the timecode was out of sync- slipping between 1 frame and 19 frames out.
When i checked my rushes tapes with the EDL it seems that the timecode on my FCP and the tapes don't match, and somehow the TC had drifted. The only change to my system is a different deck- I normally capture from BSP UVW 1800- or via firewire from DSR11 DV deck- i have captured from Digibeta with no problems, but not from a DVW M2000P deck- could this be the source of my problems? Any other ideas as i'm worried this is aproblem that could keep coming back.
Dual 1.25 Ghz Pwer PC G4 Mac OS X (10.3.5) FCP HD (4.5) with Cinewave 4.6 RT capture cardsorry jim i don't follow- so some more info may help- i am still using the same 9 pin i plug into my UVW 1800- there isn't a uniform offset it seems to be drifting randomly from between 1 frame and 19 frames.
Just to clarify all of this is shot at 25fps PAL.
I know an Avid system will recognize a new deck when its plugged in- is this something i should be changing manually- as i don't understand where or what i change in the device control panel with a new deck?
I also set my Capture Preset as TARGA Cine PAL YUV (to DV)- Unbalanced Audio Pro analog- i compress to DV as i often work on mixed format material- and its never been a problem before?
If this helps here are my Device control presets:
Use this preset when controlling a device at a frame rate of 25 fps via a Stealth Serial Adapter.
Protocol: Sony RS-422
Time Source: LTC
Port: serial
Audio Device Control mapping (Ch1-8): 2 Channels
Frame Rate: 25
Do not use deck search mechansism
Pre-roll: 3 seconds
Post-roll: 3 seconds
Capture Offset: 0.000 frames
Handle Size: 00:00:00:00
Playback Offset: 00:00:00:00
I really appreciate any help on this one as it could obviously be a long, time consuming and expensive problem.

I am trying to edit my music list and then sync it to my iPhone 5 so I don't run out of storage space. However, I see the check marks on the iTunes library but am unable to uncheck them? How do I manually edit what will be synced to my phone? (the check marks are not bolded, does this mean they are not in my library but only on my phone?)
You uncheck the music in your iTunes library on your computer and along with sync only checked songs and videos selected under the Summary selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, only checked songs in your iTunes library will be transferred to your iPhone or remain on your iPhone and the unchecked songs in your iTunes library that are currently on your iPhone will be removed when syncing.
Or make use of iTunes playlists and choose selected playlists, albums, artists under the Music selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and select the playlists below that you want transferred to your iPhone. -
Final cut pro - editing music video audio falls out of sync
filmed with canon 7D- i play the music in the background for th artist to perform. upon loading up the footage into final cut, i sync the start of the video audio with the record, as they both play it falls out of sync. i did not have this problem when i edited with premiere. any ideas
Sync issues are *usually* going to be mismatched sample rates, for instance, you imported 44.1kHz audio into a 48kHz project.
This happened to me awhile back, and unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what I did to fix it. But what I *think* I did was click on the imported audio and went to the Retime menu and selected Conform Speed. If that doesn't work, right click on the audio in the event browser and select Transcode (if there's an option to do so in the dialog).
It is also possible to manually resync audio by Retiming it. Turn on snapping (N), select the clip, type Command-R and drag the audio clip's retiming handle until the end of the audio snaps with the end of the video clip (this is actually amazingly accurate.) [If your recorded audio is not the same length of the audio on the video, then set markers on the video and audio tracks and retime until the markers snap.] You should do this before any other edits. -
Captivate 6 editing - on timeline, audio is out of sync after pausing
I am trying to create a software demo for my company. I am using the HD video and then have imported audio recordings over the video.
The big work portion of this project is adding call-out smart shapes on the video during certain portions to highlight what the voiceover is discussing. However, when I pause the timeline so I can add a smart shape, upon resuming from the pause, the audio is out of sync. This happens even if I hit Stop on the timeline, and use my mouse to move the playhead.
This is adding significant amounts of time to my video editing process, to the point where I am missing deadlines for having the videos created. The only solution I have found to guarantee that the call-out smart shapes are in sync with the audio instructions is to Play the timeline from the very beginning, each time after pausing the audio.
Is anyone else experiencing these issues, or know of a way to fix it? This is adding enough time to the editing process that our company is looking into other video editing softwares to replace Captivate.I always copy the entire PRIVATE folder from camera to hard drive, and then importing from that hard drive folder in to project.
I am saing original, becouse I do not convert them to diferent format. And how could be the original files of video and audio out of sync???
I am using Premiere for 10 years, I am not new to this software, but never had this problem. -

I have read a number of forum treads and I'm at my wits end. I want to capture in HD edit it in real time and export to DVD, BlueRay and Flash. I have spent hours on support and updated every driver and configuration setting that I know. PLEASE will someone tell me what do I need to do to get this to work?
Is it the DELL? Do I go to a Mac? (Ironic that most adobe tutorials are on Macs) Do I need a different solution? I'm going crazy! Maybe it's me and I'm capturing and creating sequences all wrong. Please provide a workflow that is working for you. Let me know if you need more specifics. Thank you in advance!2. I did a search for HDVSplit and came up with this site. http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm Is this correct? Is there a released version?

Editing Audio from PP CS4 in Soundbooth coming back out of sync.
After cleaning up audio from PP CS4 using the "edit in Soundbooth" option. The audio comes back out of sync. How do I solve this?
thanks!I am sorry for the confusion. When putting the playhead in the middle, the instrumental sounds as if somebody has slid it to the right. No, it does not start early and end late. It (the instrumental) is just at a later part of the song no matter where I put the playhead. For example, I put the playhead at a certain point of the song, and at that point the instrumental is sounding a part of the track located at an earlier location of the song (maybe a second or 2). There is no change in pitch...the instrumental sounds the same...it is just at the wrong location every time I put the playhead anywhere but the beginning of the song.

Tape archive DV tape: the audio gets out of sync.
I have some trouble with FCPX working with my DV tapes and camera (via FW).
When importing a .dv file previously imported with iMovie FCPX crashes. When I convert the file to prores with mpegstreamclip it will import but with incorrect date info.
Now I have made a Tape Archive from within FCPX and I can import from there, but the audio gets out of sync at the end of the tape.
Any suggestions?
