Edit Video Timing: default all slides to end of timeline

Hello,
I'm working with Captivate to time some slides with portions of a video. Workflow:
1) Insert PowerPoint slides
2) Insert Video
3) Edit Video Timing, line up slides to corresponding times
Is there a way to default all the slides to be at the end of the presentation instead of the beginning? I'm constantly dragging 20-30 slides around, when it would be much easier to put them at the end, move the scrubber to my desired time, and then place the next slide with the "move the next marker to the playhead position" button.
Also is there a way to change the Edit Video Timing timeline to be in min, sec instead of just seconds?
Thanks!

You say : "I need the audio to stay where it is"
Don't forget that, concerning the audio (or anything else for that is "connected" to the primary storyline), you can always change the "connection lines" so it's not attached to a clip that might be deleted or moved downstream.
You can for instance temporarily move the "connection line" to a clip that is before the clip you're about to move (or delete). If you re-connect the line to a clip that stays still, well, the connected clip won't move :-) !
Just use Ctrl Opt Clic
and clic on a clip that doesn't move. The "connection line" will move and be attached to this new clip. (and not to the clip that is moved downstream or deleted).
Very useful.

  • Captivate 5 freezes when opening edit video timing

When I insert a video slide and go to Properties > Video > Edit Video Timing,  Captivate freezes and I need to restart the program. I first played around with feature about three weeks ago and did not experience a problem. Is there something in a recent update that is now causing this issue?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi there,
Not sure why it is happening to you all of a sudden. Can you restart captivate with fresh set of preferences.
    1. Close Captivate.
    2. Delete "Captivate 5" folder from "C:\Users\userName\AppData\Local\Adobe\" location
    3. Restart captivate and try the workflow you mentioned.
    Let me know.

  • CP6 HTML5 publish, edit video timing

We are attempting to upgrade a couple of 5.5 projects in CP6 to test video playback.  We use "edit video timing" to place segments of video on each slide.  Is this approach supported in CP6 when publishing to HTML5?  We have not been able to get it to work as expected.
Also, does anyone know if the issue in 5.5 that causes audio dropout when Flash threads reach ~100?  We encounted this several times when using 5.5 and using video on multiple slides..
    Thanks
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
Edit Video Timing is supported in CP6 when publishing to HTML5.
Could you please share your project, if you are still facing the issue.
Please find a small demo on the same.

  • Edit video timing "ghost frame"

Building a project with narrator video used throughout course.  The video is one long file with individual video segments placed and timed on each slide using "edit video timing" in CP 5.5.
The problem: frequently during playback, the video referenced on a slide will display a random "ghost frame" before the correct video begins to play.  This is distracting since our design places the narrator on a clean white background.  The "ghost" appears to be a random frame from later in the video referenced on the slide.
To determine where the frame was being pulled from we put timecode on the video and recorded the screen during playback.  Attached is small video file that illustrates the problem.  Note that each playback attempt may show a different frame.  Each frame will be from the same general section of the video.
Video is F4V exported from Adobe Media Encoder.
    Appreciate any help.
    Jeff
    Video sample is at
    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17217781/ghost%20frame%20on%20load.mov

Attached are the publish settings.  Based on your suggestion we published at "high" quality and tested this morning.  No apparent change in the "ghosting" problem.  We have noticed that the ghosting problem gets worse the longer the video file that is timed.  A seemingly obvious solution would be be make the video files shorter, however, using too many video files in a project causes audio dropout based on too many Flash player threads being generated.  I can point you to a long discussion thread on this if you don't know what I am referring to.
    I appreciate any other suggestions.

  • Editing Slide Video Timing in CP5

I'm experimenting with editing the timing for slide video in CP5.  I have the video on one slide and now I want to distribute it over other slides but not equally like it does when asked when you first bring a video in.  I want to use the edit video timing from the Properties Inspector.  When I open the video timing and then try to slide the window on the screen it disappears and CP5 freezes.  Anyone else experience this issue?
    Thank you,
    Susan

    Hi,
Foubnd my own answer to this (although the preview is still a problem)...
My answer was to open a 2nd copy of CP....and view side by side :-)

  • I am trying to get a good copy of my home video on DVD using IDVD.  On editing the video all the viewing screens show the video perfectly in HD.  When I burn the video to DVD all the end results are buzzy with squiggly lines.  Any fix?  Thanks?

    Hi
There are several layers to this Q
    A. There are no HD in DVD - DVD is as standard only SD-Video what ever tools used to produce it !
iDVD or DVD-Studio Pro or Roxio Toast™ - will only make SD-Video on DVD
    B. DVD can be better or worse
    • Using "Share to iDVD" is no good way - Better is Share to Media Browser and as Large (NOT HD as result will be worse)
    • Using iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - are not tools to chose if highes quality is of importance - iMovie up to HD6 or FinalCut any version is far better as they send over all lines to iDVD and not only every second one.
    • Using Right encoder quality depending on movie and Manu duration is very important
    • Use of high quality brand of DVD - is important - I use Verbatim DVD-R
    • Type of DVD - DVD-R plays on more DVD-Players (even old ones)
    • Burn speed - I set it down to x4 - resulting in less burn errors - plays on more players
    • I secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up Mac OS hard disk as iDVD and Mac OS needs this and it can not be taked from other hard disks - has to be here.
    • What You feed iDVD does matter
    Video codecs
    Audio file formats
    Photo file formats

Is there no way to update the "Default Lables" on all slides once I've changed it under the Preferences?
I really don't want to recreate the slides from scratch again.

What about File, Export, Text Captions...? You'll have a Word document with two columns. Translate the second column (much easier in Word) and import again. That is the normal work flow for translation. Same is possible with XML instead of Word.

Can we assume that your 1080p30 is an AVCHD.mp4 file or other?
You manually or the project automatically should set the project preset to
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p30 @29.97
(If your frame rate is really 30 instead of 29.97, then go with DSLR 1080p30 instead of DLSR 1080p30 @29.97)
See the following link for setting the project preset manually
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/04/pe11-accuracy-of-automatic-project.html
    For your export
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with Presets = MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p30
Please let us know if you have further questions on this or need clarification on anything written.

  • View all slides in timeline with text holding for duration

    Hi,
I have been a video editor for 30 years and this is my first time with Flash.  I'm trying to make simple 15 second Flash clips for an Infocaster digital signage system but cannot figure out how to put in the advertiser's phone #/website and keep it there for the duration of the three slide run.  Also am not able to bring in Photoshop-created files where I've made the white BG transparent in order to make better text.  How can I see all three timelines concurrently with the contact info field stretched under all?
    Peter B

    Hello,
You seem to have two Adobe ID's? But you are the same Peter?
OK, starting to understand. You really need Captivate to produce a SWF in a more easy way than with Flash. And you do not want to do it with Powerpoint (I'm not a PPT-lover either), which could be easily converted to a CP-file and then to SWF.
You were showing sort of a timeline (have you video past in mind), but do know that you do not really have to put everything on one slide in Captivate. To know what is the most easy way, I'll  try to summarize in CP-language and have to ask some more questions:
your 'movie' will have a total duration of 15 sec
your 'movie' should start with Title 1, and image 1 in sec. 0:0; title 1 has to stay for 15sec, image 1 disappears after p.e. 5sec
image 2 replaces image 1 after 5 seconds and stays for 5sec
image 3 replaces image 2 after 10 seconds and stays for 5sec
Title 2 appears after p.e. 2 sec, has to be visible for about 10sec
Title 3 appears after 3sec, stays for 3 sec
Title 4 replaces Title 3 when it ends and stays for 6 sec
Title 5 replaces Title 4 when it ends and stays for 3 sec
Created this on 1 slide, you'll find screenshot at the bottom (did use rectangles to replace images, workflow is same). Some tips:
Go to Edit view (top toolbar), there is one slide selected in Filmstrip. Open Properties of the slide (Enter), set Display Time to 15sec
If you do not want any fadings in/out, open Edit, Preferences, go to Project, Start and End, deactivate 'Fade in on First slide' and 'Fade out on last slides' (you'll only have 1 slide)
Insert Title 1 (is called Text Caption in CP) with Insert, Standard Objects, Text Caption (or first icon on vertical toolbar at the left), format it as you wish and set it to display for the duration of the slide (on Options tab of Properties or with CTRL-E after closing Properties, with Title selected).
Insert your first  image (I used a first rectangle) with Insert, Image. It will be selected, resize if necessary; open Properties (Enter, while it is selected), go to the Options tab, and under Timing, set it to display for 5 sec. Check the Transition effect and change if wanted.
Insert second image, resize, open Properties, Options, under Timing set it to display after 5 sec and for 5 sec.You could also stretch the time on the Timeline and move the object on the timeline, that is a personal choice.
Think you got the workflow by now? Here is a screenshot of the Options for Title 2:
You can Preview the Project using F4 of F12 (to preview in Browser). Even though you only have 1 slide, do not use the Preview slide, because that way of viewing doesn't compile to a SWF.

  • Adding audio to edited video

Hey, I've been editing a short movie with premiere and I accidentally removed the audio from half the footage and can't restore it, all the auto save files saved it after I finished editing.  All I want to do is get the audio from the edited video, as the video clips are there but the audio aren't, only in the original clip does it have the audio.
    Thanks,
    Josh

If the original clip stil has the audio, perhaps you could insert this on the end of your sequence.  Unlink the audio, then delete the original clip and slide the unlinked audio back into the position you want it along the timeline.

  • Audio/Video skipping during certain slides

    Hi All,
I have been working on a screen simulation and until yesterday everything played back smoothly in the preview and also published.  Yesterday I made a couple of minor edits (replaced the audio on one slide (from Audacity), added a couple text captions, changed the font for several captions) and I started noticing skipping in the audio and video on a few slides (this happens in both preview and published). I have the filed saved in My Documents (not a network drive).  I have two versions (one with no skipping from 2 days ago (A) and one from yesterday with the skipping (B)), and have be playing with both trying to find the root cause.
On version A I tried to recreate the changes I made to B, pausing to watch after every change to find the cause.  It ended up being text captions I added to the bottom of half of the slides (simple text and says "Questions?  Contact ....").  Without this text the project plays fine.  Because verion B is more updated I figured if I just removed this text it would also get rid of the skipping.  However, this did not work. Has anyone else had any problems with audio and video skipping (almost like a scratched CD) throughout projects?  This project is not large (35 slides) and not overly advanced (software simulation) in Captivate 5 on Windows 7.  Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

This may not relate to your issue since you said it also skips occationally, but still worth looking at...

In general, before going back to tape or to an iDVD project, I always extract all the audio as my final step.

  • IMovie default all transitions off?

    Hi everbody!
Is there any way to default all transitions off when adding new clips? Why are the clips I add to the timeline shortened by at least three seconds? For example, a seven second clip shows up as six seconds in the clip selection list. Then when I add the clip the timeline it shortens the clip to four seconds. So then I turn off the transitions because I don't want them in the first place. Then when I try to expand the clip (make longer back to seven seconds)it shortens the clip by another second down to three. I do not want transitions and I want my full clips in the video, is there anything I can do?

Double tap your transition and select "None".
This will preserve the most amount of video.
With most video editing software the beginning & end of every clip are susceptible to loosing a few frames.

  • Video Format Total Solution: How to Convert and Edit Video on Windows/Mac

More and More video formats are coming out with different video encoders and it makes our spare time more and more colorful. However, it is not to say that there is no problems. Actually, different video formats make it difficult to share video with others, even your own camcorder and iPod. Is there an easy way to convert videos effectively. Yes, there is.
In this article, I will show you guys how to convert videos on windows and mac.
Part 1. How to Convert and Edit Videos on Windows
For Windows users, you need a Video Converter(http://www.aiseesoft.com/total-video-converter.html) to do that for you.
Here I use Aiseesoft Total Video Converter(http://www.aiseesoft.com/total-video-converter.html)
Step 1: Download and install Aiseesoft Total Video Converter
After you download it to your computer, double click it and it is really easy to install.
You just need to click “next” and it will complete it in seconds. It will automatically run after installation.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/total-video-converter/screen.jpg
    Step 2: Load Video
Click “Add File” to find the video that you want to convert and click “open”. It will be loaded automatically.
Step 3: Select the target to decode
In the “Profile” drop download list you can find your target according the usage of your output video, such as if you want to put the video on your iPod touch, you can select the “iPod” in the first list and “iPod touch 2 MPEG-4 640*480(*.mp4)” in the second list.
    Step 4: Set Advanced Parameters
After you select the right output profile, you can click “setting” button to set your advanced parameters. You can adjust video and audio settings separately. In video section, you can change “video encoder”, “resolution”, “frame rate”, “video bitrate”In audio section, you can change “audio encoder”, “sample rate”, “channel”, “audio bitrate”If you want to save this profile and settings and use it next time you can click “save as” button to give a name to it. And the next time you want to use it you can find it in the profile list named “user defined”.
    Step 5: Choose a Destination
To browse and find a output folder for your output files or just the default one.
Finally, Click “Convert” button to begin your conversion, here in the converting
interface you can choose “shut down the computer when conversion complete” or “open output folder when conversion complete” or you just do not choose neither one.
Tips: How to Edit the Output Video
This video converter is also a video editor, you can use it to edit your output video as follows:
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/total-video-converter/effect.jpg
    1. Effect:
You are allowed to adjust the “Brightness”, “Contrast”, “Saturation” and you can choose the “deinterlacing” to make the video more enjoyable.
    2. Trim:
In “Trim” section you can pick up any part of the video to convert.
There are two ways to select the part of the video you want. One is set the start and end time in the box. The other one is to drag the start and end button in the processing bar.
    3. Crop:
This function allows you to choose a certain play area to convert. That means you can choose a part of the screen you like to convert. For example, you just like the tv in the middle of the screen, then you can drag the frame around the preview window to select the tv and the output preview will show you the output video. In this section you can also choose the “zoom mode”, such as “keep original”, “full screen”, “16:9”, “4:3”.
    4. Watermark
In the section, you can add a watermark on the output video to show people something, such as your name, website, studio name or other things. The watermark could be words and picture. You can adjust the transparent of the watermark easily to make it more beautiful.
Part 2. How to Convert Video on Mac
This time you need a Video Converter for Mac(http://www.aiseesoft.com/video-converter-for-mac.html)
    Step 1: Add File
Click “Add File” button to load the video you want to converter
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/mac-video-converter/steps.jpg
Step 2: Choose profile and adjust settings
You can find your output video format from a drop-list called “Profile”You can also adjust the specific settings of the output video, such as “Resolution”, “Bitrate”, “Encoder” and so on.
