Edit Web pages in Safari for printing?

Somewhere recently I came across a utility, or a hack (input manager), or maybe it was even a Web site, that makes it possible to edit out undesired elements of a Web page before printing it. I believe it was specifically linked to Safari (not a Firefox plug-in I know, as I never use that browser). I clearly remember a video demo of whatever-it-was on its Web page. But I can't remember the name, and can't find it again with an Internet search. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Found it! It was linked on the Low End Mac home page, and I happened to look there again:
The Printliminator
The Printliminator is a bookmarklet with some simple tools you can use to make websites print better. One click to activate, and then click to remove elements from the page, remove graphics, and apply better print styling.

    Quit Safari.
Open the Library folder in your home folder as follows:
☞ If running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar.
☞ If running an older version of Mac OS X, select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar and enter “~/Library” (without the quotes) in the text box that opens.
Delete the following items from the Library folder:
    Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
    Preferences/QuickTime Preferences
    Relaunch Safari and test.

  • Saving web pages in Safari for Windows

Is it possible to save the whole web page (not just text, but also images etc) with safari?
When I go to File>Save as, it saves only text as htm file and doesn't create any folder with images, if you reset Safari or try to open this file with any other browser offline, you will see no images on the page.

Unfortunately this is not supported yet in Safari for Windows.

  • Is it possible to edit web pages on Safari?

One could do this on Netscape; anything similar on Safari?

    anything similar on Safari?
No. Safari is a web browser, not an HTML editor or email client.

  • Can not open any web page in Safari

can not open any web page in Safari on the IPad.  All other wireless features work fine.

If this does not work then try a reset ,
Reset your iPad by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPad  will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.
Good luck and do report back.

Just subscribed to Acrobat for $19.99/year to be able to use expanded pdf manipulation features. From left hand window I signed in successfully. However when I try to use a feature like export to Word doc I am sent to Web page to subscribe for more money.  I thought I had already paid for access to these features by subscribing for the $19.99? What features did this $19.99 allow me if NOT to edit or export PDF files?

Please check the name of what you subscribed to. You say "Acrobat" but that isn't $19.99/year. Unfortunately Adobe have products which do the same thing and need to be used in different ways.

  • Getting the newest version of a web page in Safari

My version of Safari does not look for updated versions of websites I frequently visit. It always loads what's in the cache. Is there a setting somewhere that forces it to always load the page from scratch or at least every session?

In my experience, Internet Explorer is much worse about caching stale web pages than Safari. (As an example, I often have to tell people in my workplace to restart their PCs in order to see a web page change in Windows Internet Explorer, while I can see the change in Safari without a problem.)
However, the problem can be confused by things that a network (in a workplace, in particular) do in terms of web access, and also by caching that your ISP might be doing, as QuickTimeKirk mentioned. If your ISP is "feeding" you a cached page, your web browser really can't load the refreshed page until the ISP itself refreshes the page.

I found that Firefox/XPS had deleted all printer driver setups except for the XPS connection. I had to reinstall my printer connection in order to have that selection present in the printer dialogue box.

Try posting at the Web Development / Standards Evangelism forum at MozillaZine. The helpers over there are more knowledgeable about web page development issues with Firefox. <br />

  • Web pages in Safari won't acknowledge my usernames and passwordss

I have the iPad 2, iOS 5.1.1  When I go to various web pages, using Safari, that require my username and password, and I enter them correctly, and hit submit or enter, the page takes me back to the sign-in page, again and again and again and... This occurs on all web pages that require usernames and passwords, which I have tried about 6 different sites. On my settings for Safari, the Remember names and passwords is on. Please advise.

Make sure that in Settings -> Safari -> Accept Cookies is NOT set to "Never".

  • What is an easy web-page creation program for use with MacBook Pro?

Can anyone suggest an easy web-page creation program for use with MacBook Pro?  I have used FrontPage with my PC, but am changing to a MacBook Pro.

It largely depends on your skill level. Do you want to write web page code, or do you want to just design something and have it turn into a web page automatically?
If you are more of a designer, try these:
    RapidWeaver
    Freeway Pro
    Muse
If you want to write web page code, try these:
    Coda
    BBEdit
    Dreamweaver
If you really don't want to write the code and want the best experience for your viewers, and you want to spend the least amount of time on it, my recommendation is:
    No program at all.
Instead, sign up with a web site company like:
WordPress.com (hosted by them) or WordPress.org (hosted on your server)
    Squarespace
    Wix
The reason is that these companies have fully operational, nicely designed web site templates that you just fill in with your words and pictures, and they are ready to go. They also give you these benefits:
Already designed to the latest web standards
    Already designed to resist hackers
Already designed to work on all browsers
Already designed to automatically adjust the page for readability on desktop, laptop, tablet, and smartphone screen sizes
    Already designed for accessibility
Already designed for Search Engine Optimization so that your page will be found on Google
Already designed with social media links built in if you want
It is not like the old days where you build a site in Front Page and you assume it will only be seen on a desktop computer. If you build it yourself with a web page program, do you have the knowledge to make a site that works on all of the different web browsers and mobile devices, and is friendly to search engines and social media? If you don't have those skills, working with a website company can be a lot better, faster, and more reliable than trying to hammer all of that out yourself using code in some app.

  • Aperture 2.0 - Editing Web Pages

Could not seem to find a way to create a web page temple for all the web pages we create for our college sports photos pages.
Would like to creat one template, with the same background and text colors, size of thumbnails, logo for the header and text/caption for the footer.
I am quite sure this can be done, just do not see anything that allows me to do this.
Is this something you create in iWeb then save (how/) to Aperture as a temple.
Thx Much to anyone who can help with suggestions.

    Hello Jack
I'm sorry for this 'difficult' awnser.
If you go to the Aperture program and choose (right click) 'show content' you can find the Web Page templates in Contents/Resources/WebThemes.
By tweaking these files, it is possible to create your own templates. But you need to know a lot of html. And before tweaking, I advice to make a copy.
    I hope this can help.
(nb If you find a way to let Aperture fill the alt="" tag, please let me know.)
