Edit With - Photoshop color shift

When using Edit With -> Photoshop with my 12 and 14-bit NEF files, the resulting file (after editing in PS) has a color shift. Same happens when I export a Version as 16-bit TIFF or PSD and then re-import it into Aperture.
I have tried it with 8-bit JPGs from camera, and the shift does not occur. Has anyone come across this problem and have a remedy? Your help would be greatly appreciated guys, thanks!

Ah, thanks for the tip. I've changed my Photoshop color settings to warn me when opening files with embedded color profiles. I simply choose to work in the embedded profile and upon saving and returning to Aperture, no longer notice any color shift. Thanks again!

  • Iphoto Editing with Photoshop Elements 9

I am going into Iphoto, clicking the Edit button and it brings up Photoshop Elements 9.  I make changes, they
look OK so I save it.  When I get back to IPhoto, it looks like the change has been made.  However when I go
back later in the day and click on the updated photo and there is a triangle with an exclamation point in the middle.
This means it can't find the original.  They're all located in Iphoto, what is happening?  Why does it look like the changes
are make and then I can't find them?

I do use a Mac, so I don¹t think versions is an issue. I would rather
pictures edited in PSE, which began life in iPhoto, should always be saved
back to iPhoto, as they were in Elements 8. That is not happening. Neither
do I know where to find pictures that PSE has saved.

If you see the save as dialog you don't have your saving files preference set
correctly. To make versions, you must set it to Save over Original.
However, note that there is a big ol' bug in the mac version that if you even
open that particular preference window (even if you don't change anything
there) PSE will no longer add file extensions when you save. When using PSE as
external editor it doesn't matter so much, but if you ever save to the desktop
you will need to add the file extension manually to the saved file.

  • Editing with Photoshop CS3 from Photoshop Elements 8

I posted this in the PSE forum but didn't get any hits. Hopefulyy I'll be luckier here.
I have just purchased Photoshop Elements 8. I do all my editing usually with Photoshop CS3. I use Elements mainly for the organizer.
When I choose Edit with Photoshop from the organizer, it launches the application but the photo does not open in Photoshop. Nevertheless, there is a banner accross the photo in Elements that says "Edit in Progress". If I close Potoshop CS3, the banner stays there. I have to close Elements to get rid of it. If I choose "Open with Photoshop Elements" it works fine.
That used to work fine with my previous version of Elements 6.0. Everything works fine in CS3. Any suggestion on what I might be doing wrong?
I'm running Photoshop Elements and CS3 on Windows Vista 64 bit.
    Thanks.

I have too much invested in Elements Organizer. 1000's of photos over a period of 5 years - tagged, version sets, stacked, albums, collections, ... I don't believe Bridge can do all of that.
I replicated the environment on a different PC with XP instead of Vista. Same problem. There seems to be a bug between Elements 8 and CS3. I don't have CS4 to test it with.
Come guys, with all the people in this forum, someone must have hit the problem or has an idea of what's going on. I logged a case with Adobe support but I doubt this will be a quick resolution.
    Thanks.

    Hi Majouz,
Sorry I was out of town for a week so couldn't respond. I use CS3 on a Windows XP machine (2GHz Intel, 1 GB RAM).
Can you please see if the photograph filename or the folder path contains any special characters like aprostrophe, ampersand and all? If yes, rename your files / folders and try again.
Let me know if this works for you.

  • Can't edit with Photoshop

I'm having an issue trying to edit my images.  When I right click on an image and go to "edit with - photoshop CS4" nothing happens.  I've tried several times with several images and nothing.  The other day when I was editing it suddenly started opening IrfanView instead of Photoshop.  Now, I just tried again to doublecheck and Photoshop isn't even an option - only Illustrator CS4 and IrfanView.  This is getting frustrating.  Is anyone else having a similar issue with the "edit with" feature?  Any ideas on how to remedy this issue?

Yes, I've had the same problem using IDCS4 on Win XP. I got MS Paint opening and I vaguely recall what I did to fix it.
Thinking it was a memory problem I know I 'Closed' and 'Re-Opened' IDCSC4 at least once. I must have closed Photoshop and Acrobat also to free up RAM prior to doing this. I think failing that, I rebooted (maybe more than once, and to a full, dead, shut down and wait for the RAM to fully discharge for 5 minutes, as I recall). Then I just started and launched ID only, and it went away, finally. It hasn't reared it's ugly head since.

  • IPhoto crashes when I edit with Photoshop!

Whenever I edit an iPhoto photo using Photoshop, iPhoto crashes when I try to import it back into iPhoto. This happens whether I export the photo, Photoshop it, and re-import it, or whether I use iPhoto Preferences to select Photoshop as my editor. I can import other photos into iPhoto, just not photos that have been edited with Photoshop. Help would be much appreciated!

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • "Edit with Photoshop" isn't working any more

Guys, when I right-click an image and choose "Edit with Photoshop CS3" (edit Lightroom copy), it will create a copy but will not launch Photoshop. This creates a problem because other than exporting the file there is now no way of editing outside Lightroom.
How do I get this functionallity back?
(I think it started doing this when I applied the 1.1 patch...)
    OS is WinXP.

I am having similar symptoms using Lightroom 1.2 and CS2. I just updated to Lightroom 1.2 this week.
The first time I select edit in CS2 Photoshop launches fine and the image is transferred. If I attempt to edit a second image Lightroom hangs indefinitely on "Preparing the file for edit". Lightroom is dead at this point. Any attempted operation, including canceling the edit, just adds to the hanging stack. The only out I have found so far is to exit Lightroom, tell it to abandon all uncompleted tasks, and then restart it. At that point it will again work correctly to edit one image. It is the editing that causes the hanging, other functions performed after an edit do not (e.g. working in the develop module on a second image).
Lightroom 1.1 did not have this problem. The images I was working on were imported into Lightroom after I updated to 1.2. I am working under XP Pro and off of an internal (vs external) hard drive.

  • Edit With Photoshop Menu Option

It would be nice if you could change the default editor. I only use PSE for the organizer and user the regular Photoshop to edit the photos. As an alternative, it would be nice if I could right click on a photo and choose a "Edit With Photoshop" option. I know I can do this within the Edit menu bar, but it would be more direct if I could right click on a photo and be able to choose my editing software.

  • How can I add "Edit with Photoshop CS5" to the Edit With options?

How can I add "Edit with Photoshop CS5" to the Edit With options?

I think it has something to do with the order in which the PSE and PS are installed on your machine.
For me, I can see option for editing in photoshop both in edit menu and from the action bar. I probably had Photoshop installed on my system before PSE

  • Editing with photoshop elements my copy photo colors change

When I have a photo open in Aperture and I select "edit with Photo Shop Elements", Aperture makes a copy of my photo as it is opening up PSE9.  The copy photo changes.  I can look at the histogram and see they are different.  Why isn't this copy EXACTLY the same?

The file format of the newly created file (it becomes a Master) is set in Aperture Prefs.  Is it different than the file format of the existing Master?  Is there any chance the change in file format accounts for the difference you are seeing?

  • Editing with Photoshop Elements 4.0

I'm sure the problem and solution are simple, but I'm missing something. Here goes.
I'm using iPhoto 6.0.2. Just installed and started using Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0. Have been editing about 1,100 photos from a recent trip to Africa, which were imported from my Canon. Wanted more editing tools, so stopped editing with iPhoto and started using PS Elements. So I open a photo from the iPhoto library using PS Elements. Let's say I open a photo from Roll 100, and call it the Monkey Photo. I edit the Monkey Photo in PS Elements, and then save (not save as, but save, using the same Monkey Photo file name). It saves the photo, but not back into Roll 100, but into a new Roll created somehow by the operating system, let's call it Roll 110, found in both the Originals and Modified folders (which seems odd).
Just like importing directly into iPhoto, when I save from PS Elements, a thumbnail is created, called a Preview. So now I have two thumbnails/previews, one from the original photo and one from the PS edited version.
So now I go to the Africa album in iPhoto. I double click on the thumbnail on the main screen to open Monkey Photo and I see a big gray blob with a large exclamation point in the middle. I go to the iPhoto library folders, and see that Monkey Photo is no longer in Roll 100, but now in Roll 110. But somehow iPhoto is not recognizing Monkey Photo in Roll 110 (and it's no longer in Roll 100, so as far as iPhoto is concerned, it doesn't exist...but it does).
So back to iPhoto. I click on View and switch to Roll view. Now I see Roll 100 and Roll 110. I click on Monkey Photo thumbnail in Roll 100, big gray blob, but click on Monkey Photo preview in Roll 110, and now I see Monkey Photo, in all his/her wonderfully edited colors from PS Elements.
How do I get the thumbnail in the iPhoto Library and the Africa album to work to recognize that Monkey Photo is now in a new roll? I did the rebuild stuff (control-option on opening iPhoto, click on first three choices, wait 30 minutes....nothing happened). I noticed the ColorSync profile was missing, and reinstalled it. Still the big gray blob following thumbnail clicking. I did a war dance. Still nothing.
What am I missing here? If you tell me that I have to recreate the Library, then the next noise you hear will be iPhoto disc being used as a frisbee and smashing into the neighbor's window.

    Robert:L
Are you accessing that file from the Finder to open in PSE or are you using iPhoto's preferences to use PSE when you double click a thumbnail? The latter is the way it should be done. Then as long as you do not create a layered or otherwise edited file that required the psd extension nor change the file name, iPhoto will recognize the edit update the thumbnail accordingly. If you access those files from the Finder, open in PSE, edit and save, the thumbnail will not be updated but when you go to the edit mode you'll see the edits.
Go to iPhoto's preferences and under the General section select PSE under the Open photo with: menu.

  • Camera RAW Editing with Photoshop Elements 7.0

I am editing Canon Camera RAW format images with Photoshop Elements 7.0.
When I try to use the Clone Stamp option, an error message indicates that I need to change to 8 bit color to continue. I am also aware that some feel that 8 bit color is good enough. I would like to keep the 16 bit color.
Will upgrading to Photoshop Elements 8.0 allow me to keep 16 bit color?
    Thanks
    Bob  AZ

No, as far as 16 bit support, pse8 is pretty much the same as pse7.
Pse9 is due out within a few months, so who knows whether more 16 bit support
    will be added or not.

  • Pictures edited with Photoshop becomes huge in file size

    Hey,
Sometimes I like to edit my pictures with Photoshop if there are some things I need to remove etc. But after I save my picture from within Photoshop, it takes up like 70MB or something in my Aperture library. That's a lot for a single picture. Isn't there something to be done so they get down to around RAW-filesize level?
Or do I have to go the long way round and export first (as what?), then edit in Photoshop, save as JPEG, import to Aperture?

This issue of size is not Aperture, per se. If you open one of your RAW files saved directly from the camera to a folder on your Mac, then open with Photoshop, change to Mode settings to be 16 bit vs 8 bit, then Save As a TIFF, you will see the same size increase.
Aperture by default is working in 16 bit color, and that alone will increase TIFFs or PSDs by a factor of two.
Photoshop needs the image file to be either TIFF or PSD to accomplish and then save most edits that require Photoshop, and that you can later re-edit. If your edit requires layers, then you can flatten the image before saving to not pass that increase back into Aperture storage.
Although you can save your edited image as a JPEG in PS, there is no facility to directly pass this back to the Aperture Library.
I find little reason to use Photoshop for editing, unless I need to work with layers, btw, especially since Aperture 3.

  • After editing with photoshop and saving, can't find it

    1) After editing a photo with Photoshop, save it, I can't find it. Only the original unedited photo is in my library.
    2) I tried adding a name extension to the DSC...., but can't find that either.
    3) Where can I resize photos using Iphoto editing?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you using Photoshop as described here:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.

NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:

  • Stretched photos after editing with photoshop CS5

When I crop a photo with photoshop CS5 and then go and review it in Iphoto the picture looks like the unedited version in the "events" but when i double click on it it appears streteched. How do I fix this?
Also, when I edit a photo with CS5 (for ex: cool a picture if it is too warm) then go to look at it in iphoto it looks like the unedited version and once I click on the photo I can see the edited version.

The following is how Photoshop should be used from within iPhoto:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.

Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
