Edit work published to a folder??!

Hi all,
I've just done some work with iWeb and published it to a local folder on my HD. When I figure out how to ftp it my ISP it'll go on the www.
Problem - how does one open up the work in iWeb to edit it? The files are still in the same spot they were originally put and I can open them with Safari to view them locally but it seems somewhat confusing on how to re-open the items on local HD with iWeb.
Any clues appreciated!
MacBook Pro 1.83 GHz with 1.5GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Let me clarify...Once you "Publish to Folder" what you are doing is actually saving your website files to your local HD, right? If you want to do more editing of your site, then you open up iWeb and do your thing and then "Publish to Folder" again to view the changes in Safari. So all the editing occurs in iWeb. Viewing of the local site occurs in Safari. In other words, what you see on your hard drive as a result of the "Publish to Folder" command is a finished piece. Subsequent changes to your site will result in these files being overwritten the next time you "Publish to Folder."
Now, if you want to do some HTML editing of the resulting files (e.g. to add some functionality not available within iWeb), then you will need edit the published files manually with a text editor. Again, these changes are likely to be overwritten each time you choose "Publish to Folder" in iWEb.
I hope this makes sense.

  • Publishing site to folder

I am using IWeb to build individual sites for clients to view images of themselves. Each site is personal and has welcome pages as well as photo pages. It all looks and works great on my Mac, but when I publish it to a folder and burn it to a CD, window machines can not view the photos on the photo pages. I've disengaged he pop up that won't allow active material to work on a window computer, but the photo pages are still empty. When you click on slide show the slide show window comes up but the image thumbnails are not there nor are the slide presentation photos.
Is it a windows problem or is there something I need to do in I Web?
    Hope someone can help!!

I found the 'Domain' file in the 'Application Support' folder, but it doesn't contain my published sites.
iWeb's Domain files (of which you can have several) by design don't contain your published site's HTML. But if you double-click a Domain file, the site it represents should appear in iWeb for editing and publishing. (And publishing doesn't adversely affect the Domain file.)
Is it true that since I published my different sites to folders that there is no way to get them back into iWeb for editing and republishing?
+"...there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up."+ ...quoted from HERE. And it matters not whether the pages were published to a folder or to MobileMe (iDisk) ~ either way, you can't import published pages back into iWeb.

  • IWeb 08 keeps crashing while publishing to a FOLDER

Been searching the forum regarding the constant iWeb issues when trying to publish. My initial problem was a rss site error when I tried to publish my blog to my .mac account. After an hour with Apple support, the problem seemed to fix itself.
Now my new problem: After I have created a few new pages on my website, iWeb 08 crashes while trying to publish to a folder. My site domain is on a different server than my .mac blog; so I have to use Transmit to update my site. For some reason, iWeb 08 freezes while publishing to a folder. I thought maybe it was due to the Google AdSense additions, but even after I deleted the pages, recreated the pages without the ad box, it repeats the same error.
Now, I have not added any content other than a text box (no cut or paste).
Any ideas? Is this just a glitch in iWeb that will be fixed in a later update? Very frustrating.

I have a very similar problem. Sometimes when I try to publish my website to a folder iWeb 08 freezes while exporting the Blog Summary page. ... at least that's what the statusbar says. Somebody else in this forum said that one should do the usual things (repair volume/permissions, do a restart) and referenced to a macfixit article for which you need a subscription (which I don't have).
So I did everything he wrote and even ran the maintainance scripts. After creating a new blog entry publishing worked a few times. Now that I changed my last entry 2 or 3 times and always published the site successfuly to a folder, publishing freezes again at the summary page.
When I get home from work I will try to repair the volume again (last time there was aminor volume header error). Running the maintainance scripts, rebooting and creating a new entry didn't work so far.
PS: I don't use AdSense... all I habe is one google map, a youtube video and a few java scripts and iframes on several pages. The entries that I added/changed before publishing froze only containes text and pictures.

How can I Publish to a Folder just one of the several websites I have created using iWeb?
it drives me nuts having to emove all the other websites when I want to upload one.

For iWeb, I like to do only one site per domain file.  I move domain files out of the Application Support folder and place them inside project or client folders, or in DropBox. Once you duplicate a domain file and begin customizing it, it will load and behave as a separate project/site.
I publish each iWeb domain/project direct to a server via FTP. Sometime I publish to a folder, then upload via FTP manually.
iWeb is a remarkable tool, especially when you work from scratch with blank tamplates

  • What is "Publish To New Folder?"

    Captivate's *Edit/Preferences/Global* preferences include
options for the user to review a confirmation dialog before the
software proceeds to execute a variety of user actions, mostly
actions that would delete an asset or change an important setting.
"Publish to New Folder" is one of those confirmation-optional
preferences. One customises Captivate either to require
confirmation before executing some underlying command or to proceed
    with its execution unhindered.
But what is the underlying "Publish to New Folder" command?
What does it do? Where do I find it? There doesn't seem to be
documentation about it, or discussion of it in the user community.
Oddly, one would think that publishing to an *existing* folder
would be the more concerning action. entailing as it does the
possibility of files being overwritten. What possible harm,
necessitating verification, could possibly be done publishing
something to a brand new folder? And what does Captivate mean by
"publish" in this instance: Is it a reference to the limited menu
of export-as-SWF or as projector.EXE options, or does it refer to
some other export, save or archiving function?
Having been at considerable pains to create a Captivate
project which deploys multiple graphic and audio assets I now would
like to wrap them all up and deliver them efficiently to an
archive, a function most other multi-asset authoring platforms
allow one to do with a mouse click or two. (See PremierPro, for
example, although neither Flash nor FrameMaker is so
sophisticated.) Can this be accomplished by some hidden "Publish to
    New Folder" command?
    Thank you.

    Hi Ruth3rf0rd
Captivate 3 introduced an unwelcome feature that forces you
to create a folder named identically to your .SWF and ,HTM files
when creating your .SWF output. (Oddly enough, this doesn't happen
    if publishing to .EXE).
Aside from simply naming the project what you want the folder
named, there isn't any underlying process you are missing. The
option you see in the preferences area simply turns the
intermediate dialog off and on. And you did mention that it could
theoretically be more dangerous to overwrite files. That option is
    there as well.
Because I come from the RoboHelp HTML/Web Authoring
background, I find the whole notion of "Publishing" to be wrongly
named. For Captivate, the act of Publishing is taking the source
material and compiling it to produce the output format.
In the Web Development world, the act of Publishing is taking
content that has already been created from the source and copying
it to another location. Most often, a Web Server.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • I upgraded from iWeb '06 to iWeb '09-now I can't publish to a folder

I'm having 2 issues after upgrading from a powerbook G4 running Tiger with iWeb '06 to a macbook pro running Snow Leopard with iWeb '09. I migrated my website created with iWeb '06 over to iWeb '09 and I'm having 2 issues.
    1. Every page in the website brings up a window that says "The following errors occurred while trying to open this document: Type: Substituted Font; Description: The font "Arial-BoldMS" was substituted for..."
Then it says "To include missing fonts, add them to your fonts folder, then quit and reopen iWeb."
This happens every time I open iWeb, even after I click "Continue" in the dialogue box. Where can I find the font that is being replaced--it doesn't list it in the dialogue window. And how can I download it to add to my fonts folder?
    2. When I try to "Publish Entire Site" or "Publish Site Changes," a dialogue window pops up saying "Publish Error: Can't create the file "index.html." The disk may be damaged or full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
I am the administrator user, so that's not the issue. I have over 300 GBs of free disk space, so that's not the issue. The disk is not damaged because everything else is working just fine.
I am not familiar with the way iWeb '09 publishes. In iWeb '06, when I selected "Publish to a folder" from the File drop down window, it brought me to a screen in order to select a folder to which to publish. That feature is gone in iWeb '09, with the "Publish entire site" and "Publish site changes" taking its place, but I don't see where it has options to configure FTP or even input where you want your site to go and what domain name it is. How do I direct iWeb to publish the site to a folder or upload it to my Godaddy.com web host?
    Thanks for your help.

When I publish to a folder and post to my Verizon web space I get a 404 (not found) error on slideshows. • Can't Publish to a folder on iWeb

I host two web sites for a genealogy program ( USGENPROJ ) and have been using an old Pagemill program , with Fetch for my FTP. I just bought iWeb ( part of iLife 8) and started transferring some of my pages over from Pagemill to iWeb. I click "publish to a folder" ( as I'm not using .Mac ). The dialog box asks for my URL ( which I copy & paste right from one of my two existing web sites). When I click to transfer the info to the folder I always get an " unknown error" notice. I've tried a number of times and always get the same error . Please help.

Roddy: In Pagemill, I select a block of text and "copy" it. Then I open iWeb & choose a "blank" template , draw a text frame and then click "paste". Now I've transferred my selected text to my iWeb page. Everything is working ok at this point and the text is now on my iWeb page. Next, I choose " publish to a folder" as I'm not using .Mac . I want to "transfer" my text to the folder so that I can see what its going to look like on Safari. A dialog box opens up asking me to insert the URL exactly as it will be seen on the web site, so I go to the existing web site and "copy" the URL, then back to the dialog box and "paste" in the URL, then I click" create". At this point I get the "unknown error" message. and a couple of times the Safari site opens up saying it doesn't recognize the URL and it shows something like the following: /users/monty/desktop/site/blank/. I believe I'm following the instructions but it always ends up with the error notice. Thanks for getting back to me -- Monty

  • Only safari and text edit work

2 days ago my mac power cable was pulled out of the wall. When I turned the Mac Mini back on only programs such as Safari, Dashboard, and text edit worked. I can go to system preferences but that is all. All of my desktop icons have been deleted. itunes, iDVD, iCal, and others such as america online, and AIM do not work. When I shut the computer down and restart it a screen with a blinking folder with a question mark alternating with the mac logo appears and then starts up as normally. I do not have the CDs that came with the computer, is there anything i can do?

It is possible to call Apple and pay them their fee to have them to send you some replacements.
Forunately Apple isn't exactly like Microsoft requiring you to pay for a new retail version of their software.

  • Can't connect to websites with any browser. Bookmarks do not work but bookmarks  through bookmarks edit works just fine.

Can't connect to websites with any browser. Bookmarks do not work but bookmarks  through bookmarks edit works just fine.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Are there plans to let single edition users publish to the iPhone?

As the owner of a small publishing business, I was very frustrated to find out that only Professional Edition and Enterprise users can publish to the iPhone. I have a client who is ready to move forward with an iPhone version of its weekly trade publication. However, to do so with Adobe's current offerings would be WAY too cost prohibitive. My client would need about 750 downloads to serve its readership. The publication itself has hardly any graphics and consists of about 10-12 differerernt articles. So, my questions are as follows:
    1. Does Adobe plan to let single edition users publish folios for the iPhone?
    2. Are there any good alternatives for publishing a simple trade publication for the iPhone?
    Thanks

    Hi there,
I am a Professional Edition member of DPS and currently publish our magazines on the iPad only. Most of our magazines are free, and thus makes it impossible to afford the $0.30 per download fee that Adobe requires. The only way to do so is to publish everything in single edition and update/overwrite each new issue. This has worked for us, but still limits us to iPad only. The Android, Kindle Fire and iPhone are only available for using the fulfillment service, which again charges $0.30 per download. It is frustrating to me too, as I have been a loyal customer of DPS for two solid years now and they have been "promising" that these will be available in single editions soon. They have said that for two years now.
My point is that Adobe is slow to adding devices to the single edition because they don't make any money off of it. They only make money off of the fulfillment services, so there is absolutely no incentive for them to even "bother" with coming out with single edition versions of any other device. I'm surprised they even offer single edition for iPad.
Which leads me to my point -- I recommend that you find an alternative to using DPS for your iPhone single edition version. If it is simple in design, you can use something like Hype (for mac only) to build as an HTML5 web app and then package it into a native app with PhoneGap.
Here is where you can find Hype: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hype/id436931759?mt=12
Here is where you can find PhoneGap: http://phonegap.com/
I really hope this helps! Don't give up on Adobe, because they are a great company and have awesome products, but realistically they are also in the business to make money. I am sure eventually they will come out with different single editon versions of devices that are supported, but it definitely won't be anytime soon.
Let me know if you have any questions or need any help!

I have tried to publish the site at the top of the top of the Site Organizer list, but it saves all three different sites to the folder. Is this normal?
Also one of my new sites when published, to Mac of to folder and posted, looses the enter link and the email link on the first page. If I publish from page two, the home page, all the links work fine.

When I published to a folder and tried to upload via cyberduck / ftp / domain, I was getting errors.
Solution: I isolated the "domains.sites" file, copied it, reopened the copy by launching from that copied file. I then removed the other sites that were second and third inline in the site organizer. Resaved, and published to folder, then uploaded the contents. This worked perfectly.
Do you think I need to do this or have you had success leaving all of the different sites in the one domain.sites file?
