Edit WorkItem without being an Approver
Hi, all,
Need to confirm that whether a user needs to be an Approver in order to receive workitem.
One of our requirement is: the Managers could request for additional information from the requester and send the Request Form back to the requester, the requester will then re-submit the request after providing the information. That means a manual action (workitem) has to be created and assign to the requester so s/he could access it through her/his Inbox/Approval List, edit the request and re-submit it.
In order to receives the workitem, the requester needs to be an Approver. What it implies is every user in the environment has to be an Approver, since they might need to receive this "additional information" workitem when they are requesters.
The workaround we have is to set every user as an Approver. Does anyone know if this is the only choice we have? Any other solutions?

Manual action work items can be assigned to ordinary users. They don't have to be Approvers.

I have a query based on Planning security.
I want the user to edit the dimensions and members in planning application. However, the user cannot be administrator.
I have created a user and assigned the role of "Interactive User" on Planning roles and of "Dimension Editor" on Shared Services access. With this provisioning user the "Administration-->Dimension" is grayed out for the user.
Please suggest if roles can be assigned to the user in order to Edit the Dimension without being an administrator?

I want to purchase a powerbook that will run a music program like MOTU or Pro Tools as well as run Final Cut Pro without being sluggish...any help?
The only way that would work out is if you ran exactly the versions that were made for old PowerBooks. Anything newer may require Intel and not run, or will strain the poor old G4 CPU.
Your needs have to be modest, too, because the problem with older music and video software is that they are not current as far as formats and codecs for the Web. If you want to output H.264, the current standard for YouTube/Flash video, older software may not support it, and in addition, H.264 is processor-intensive and is tailor-made for today's multi-core, 2+ GHz processors. It will overwhelm a G4. A PowerBook G4 can barely play YouTube videos.
More perspective: The PowerBooks worked great for miniDV format editing. In other words, 480i SD/standard definition video in use from the late 1990s to the late 2000s. If that is all you want to do, edit tape from an old miniDV camera to SD output, then OK.
But if you want to edit today's HD video, whether 720p from a snapshot camera/iPhone 4 or 1080p from a DSLR, the PowerBook and the software for it will either not recognize AVCHD/H.264, or it will slow the PowerBook to a dead crawl.
I'm in agreement with the above: Intel Macs have been out for so many years that getting a used one is a much better deal than a dead-end PowerBook. And I loved (still love) my PowerBooks. -
For the new iPhone 5s - is there not an option anymore to edit imessages without deleting the whole stream? There are some things I need to keep within a stream and some not necessary, and it looks as like no editing within a conversation?
Now I also know about pulling the message to the left to see the time stamp. Good to know, although I preferred it being right where I could see it without having to do a swipe or keystroke.

Can anyone please help? Every time I start up my imac OSX 10.6 desktop my Aperture 3 programme opens up without being requested. Is it possible to stop this happening and only allow Aperture to open by using the desktop icon? Thank you for any assistance anyone may be able to give.

William's solution was much easier - just for completeness sake: The preferences panes to edit your startup items moved between the Mac OS X updates: I forgot that the "Users&Groups" preference pane used to be called "Users" in Mac OS X 10.6; it is the panel that you use to create new User accounts; and earlier systems had a separate preferences panel "Login" to enable and to disable the applications that are launched at login. Both are now combined in "Users&Groups". Sorry for sending you on a wild goose chase with the wrong Preferences panel.

Trying to switch primary displays without being able to see
my roommate has an Intel iMac Duo and the built-in monitor is not working. the image is totally obscured by tiny lines. only faint shades can be made out and it's not usable. he bought a miniDVI > DVI adapter and a DVI > HDMI adapter and connected his iMac to his TV. the TV was automatically set as the secondary monitor. so upon start up, his login screen is still on the broken built-in monitor.
so, my question for y'all is how can we set the TV as the primary monitor without being able to see what we're doing. to do this, we'll have to first log in, (which he said requires typing his user name and password). he tried to log in once by typing his name, hitting tab, typing his password, and hitting enter, but he didn't hear the successful login sound (sound was confirmed to be on by pressing the volume adjust keys). he left for work so i haven't been able to mess around with it. i'm thinking he may need to hit tab first, then type his username, then tab, etc...
can anyone help with logging in and/or changing the primary monitor? be creative!

oh ps, i don't know the exact version, but i know it's 10.6 also! if anyone can suggest a better place to post this question, that would be great too.

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Depending on the Mac, the F7 or Command-F1 keys are supposed to toggle in and out of "mirror" mode, which shows the same thing on both displays. I'm not sure if that will help you or whether that will work without your being logged in. -
I got my cracked screen fixed , and ever since my phone has been acting up. Now Im trying to restore it and it wont restore. Also my phone wont work without being on the charger. It just wont disconnect from ITunes Can I get help ASAP

I have a hotmail email account and each time I click on a pdf attachment, Firefox asks me "What should Firefox do with this file?" I click "Open with - Adobe Reader (default)" then I check-mark "DO THIS AUTOMATICALLY FOR FILES LIKE THIS FROM NOW ON." When I check-mark that box a little line comes up beneath it that says "Settings can be changed using the Applications tab in Firefox's Options." Even though I have changed the application settings, and have check-marked the little box asking it to open with adobe reader automatically, Firefox still asks me each time I click on a PDF "What should Firefox do with this file". How do I make it stick that every time I click on a pdf attachment I want to VIEW it in Adobe WITHOUT being asked every time? Is there a way? Thank you!!!

You cannot, nor do you need to until you reach the limit of 5. Then you can deauthorize all and authorize only the machines you choose.

Disable Data Saver.Find the Data Saver (Settings -> Battery & Data Saver) and uncheck "Enable Data Saver". Then return to the Market and restart your downloads.
The above is to download from the APPS store. Not using WiFi.

I have a project which I am trying to make simple and would like your help.
I need to create a 'navigation system' which at the moment is a series of Flash .swf files uploaded to a Dreamweaver HTML page.
Now I need to get them working together like a 'tag' or a search system, but I don't want to get a server involved.
Is it possible to create something that operates like a website but without being linked to a server?
I'm already greatfulyou can populate your data into an html table or xml syntax and then use srpy to create a search without the need for a database.

This is the explanation for my my question about whether a time capsule can be used as a backup without being connected to a network. I had to disconnect my time capsule when I upgraded my landline to a wireless home phone in order to go to a wireless security system that would work with my 2WIRE router. The time capsule blocked the usage of my camera on my security system, not allowing the camera to connect to the 2WIRE router. Once I disconnected the time capsule, the camera was able to connect wirelessly to the 2WIRE.

As you can read, you can do what you want. You just have to set up the Time Capsule network in AirPort Utility without connecting it to the router and ignoring the messages, and connect to the Time Capsule network. You will have to switch between the Time Capsule and the other router's networks -
Can I use the Airport Time Capsule Wirelessly without being connected to my router/mac by ethernet?

I've recently bought a 3TB Airport Time Capsule, with the sole intention of being able to perform wireless backups.
Is it possible to perform these wireless backups without being connected by ethernet to my modem/existing router? I don't want to use the time capsule as a replacement for my existing router (at this stage) - just for wireless backups of my Macs.
If this is not possible, or practicable, are there other alternatives that I should explore? (non-cloud)

Boring background:
I'm in a rental property with a woefully inadequate number of plugs in practical places. In addition there is only one phone socket. The result being insufficient safe space to have the existing router, and the Airport TC along with the existing electrical items.Unfortunately, Apple designed the Time Capsule to connect to a modem or modem/router using an Ethernet connection.
If you do this, you do have the option of turning off the wireless on the Time Capsule and using your existing wireless for backups. Backups will be automatic this way, in the background. The Time Capsule could be located anywhere an Ethernet cable will reach.....up to 300+ feet or about 100 meters.
The other option.....not recommended and not convenient at all.....is to set up the Time Capsule......without an Ethernet connection and then have the Time Capsule provide a wireless network that would not have Internet access.
So, when you wanted to back up, you would have to manually "switch" to the Time Capsule network for that process, then once the backup was done, manually "switch" back again to your normal wireless network for normal operations. A real mess, not to mention the possibility of wireless interference between the networks that may create other issues. -
I can no longer buy, download, or update apps/iTunes without being asked for apple ID and billing information. Even if apps are free or updating I'm asked for billing information. It's been like this for a couple of weeks after the purchase of a movie off iTunes and the purchase was successful but afterwards my App Store and iTunes stopped working properly.
