Editable Illustrator PDF to Acrobat

Hello! I am designing a presentation in Illustrator and the presenter would like to be able to edit the text in perpetuity.  If she buys Acrobat XI Standard will that allow her to modify my Illustrator PDFs?  Does she need XI Pro?  Thank you!

If you're making someone an AI document, they need to buy Illustrator. PDF is an end-destination format, it was never designed to be editable.
Although the tools in Acrobat XI make attempts to edit sentences without breaking text flow, in reality they are very limited as they're guessing about what the original document structure was. It's not fully preserved in the PDF. Paragraphs are often unconnected to one another, even characters within the same phrase can be split apart or linked to characters from a totally different part of the page. Changing a font or style will usually mess up the formatting, as would trying to insert more text than the original space allowed for.

  • Is it possible to edit a pdf with Acrobat Pro XI that was created in LiveCycle?

I downloaded a trial version of LiveCycle awhile back. I created several forms. The trial period ended and I would like to change something. When I try to edit the pdf in Acrobat Pro it tells me that I must use LiveCycle to edit it. Is there a workaround for this? Thank you in advance for any replies.

No, all LCD forms can only be edited in LCD.
And the second trial is probably not going to work, unless you install it
    on a different computer.
The best way to salvage your form, in my experience, is to print it to the
Adobe PDF printer, creating a new flat PDF file and then running the Form
Detection Wizard in Acrobat on it and continuing from there. It probably
won't do a perfect job, but it should recognize some of the fields.

  • Editing a PDF with Acrobat

My company has quite a few PDF's that they use as standards for legal agreements and such and we are going through a name change within the company.  They are having me edit and change all of our PDF's to reflect the new name and also doing a lot of other changes.  I know you're not supposed to really edit a PDF after the fact but they have hundreds upon hundreds of data fields that link to similar fields and some autopopulate etc so recreating the PDF would proabably take longer than editing it.
The problem I am running into is often I edit one of the text fields and it changes the formatting for the entire page and screws everything up.  Is there a good way to edit text other than using the text editors in Acrobat and without having to recreate the entire document?

It's been a long time since I've used Acrobat 7 Pro but I have used Acrobat 8 Professional.
The key thing is to choose the correct tool. You're looking for the Touchup Text tool, which is probably on the Advanced Editing toolbar. You can probably open up that toolbar by choosing View > Toolbars > Advanced Editing. With that tool selected, drag through the sentence to be deleted. Right-click (Control-click) on the selected text and press Delete.

  • I can edit a pdf in Acrobat 9.2 but cannot in Acrobat 11 ( says its secured and I need password)? CCard company know nothing about passwords on PDF statement.

How can I edit my CCard statement (pdf) in Acrobat 11 (MAC)
when it says it is secured?  I can edit in Acrobat 9.2 on my PC.

    Hi Doug ,
Protected PDF' cannot be edited until and unless the they ain't unlocked or the the password is entered.
PDF' are secured so that nobody else misuses it .
If you are creator of that PDF ,you would certainly be knowing the password.
If not ,then please request the creator to tell you the password in order to edit it.

  • What is preventing me from editing this PDF in Acrobat?

I did some extensive editing of a form, and so chose to do it in FormsCentral.  When I finished my changes, I did a File - Save as PDF Form.  The outcome of this was the opening of Adobe Acrobat with the form.  This is the point that I added the third-party calendars to the date fields, and saved it.  When I open it now to do a change, I get this error message: "This is a secured document.  Editing is not permitted."  When I open it in reader, the calendars do not function.  What do I need to do to be able to edit my form in Acrobat?

If you are the author and have Acrobat Pro. You can save as a Copy which turns off reader rights and allow you to edit the form.
Then you have to reestablish reader rights.  so That receipient can only fill in the form.
To make more than a minor misspelling Then I would If you have set reader rights Make a Copy.
Then make changes in original Document. save PDF under different name.
the in your open PDF you intend to use locate Replace Pages.  Choose starting point and browser to the New PDF and choose to replace All.  Next you may or may not have to adjest where your fields line up. Is so , then click on each field in turn that needs moving and use arrrow keys or home keys to move up down, side to side until you have them lined up. Now Save Changes. and re-establish Reader Right if you had set them up.

  • Text spacing goes crazy after editing a pdf in Acrobat 9 Pro Extended

Recently upgraded to Acrobat 9 Pro Extended from 7.  I have old pdf documents that need minor editing.  When I edit text with Text Touchup tool, I get an error that font substitution taking place, usually  TimesNewRoman Postscript to just TimesNewRoman.  Once I save the pdf, text throughout the entire document is spaced randomly, i.e. "Doc    ument is n    o     t     fo   m    atted  correctly".  I do not have the original source documents to re-scan or recreate the PDF.  If I create a new document using 9, I embed my fonts or I get the same problem.  I can't do this with the hundreds of old documents I have.  Is there a fix? I have tried Adobe Tech support via email with no response.
I am using Distiller to print to pdf.
I am using Vista Home Premium (ugh!) but tried it on an XP system with same results.
All my documents are text, and were OCR'd using Abbyy FineReader originally.

Thanks for the input, but I don't have the originals in either hardcopy or OCR'd files.  My workaround is to re-OCR the pdf, make the changes I need and then save to PDF.  This makes a lot more work.  I am really trying to figure out what changed in 9 from 7 that causes this to happen.  I believe it is an issue with the fonts, was just hoping for a fix.
The edits to these documents are minor, like removing some highlighting or taking away a few words of colored text, but they are necessary, just very unhappy that it now can take hours to do something it used to take minutes to do.

  • Can't Edit a PDF in Acrobat X Pro

Hi! I am BRAND new to Acrobat. I bought Acrobat X Pro and I am trying to edit an existing PDF form (which I didn't create).  I watched the tutorials and I am able to bring it over to Acrobat but I can't edit it.  There is only a FORMS option to the upper right hand side.  Where are the Tools, Comment and Share menus that I see on the Abode TV videos?  Can someone please help me out? I have about 8 of these pdf forms that I need to edit.

First check that the form is not secured (ctrl-D > security). If it is protected you are up a creek. Assuming it is not, then you should be able to select the Tools menu (top right below the menu bar) and select the forms in that menu (I am assuming that AAX is similar to AAXI). In AA9, there is a forms menu on the menu bar. These are the tools for AcroForms (not Designer forms).
You would select to edit the fields. If that is not possible, then it is likely a Designer form. I think you can look at the document properties under ctrl-D to determine the produce that produced the file. It should indicate Designer or Live-Cycle if that is what produced the form. If it was Designer, then open the form in Designer to edit the form.

  • How do I edit in PDF using Acrobat X?

I am using Acrobat X.  There are lines from the scanner on my pdf document.  I tried highlighting but the highlighted area does not delete when I push the delete button.  I tried edit thinking I could select Cut but only Copy is active.  I am somewhat new to Adobe Acrobat.  Can anyone help?

I do not have Photoshop.  I am using an old copier at work which batch scans documents into either Tiff or PDA files.
The copier sometimes leaves black lines or black dots on the document and I am trying to remove them.
I highlighted a line but Delete does not work.  Tried Edit intending to use Cut but only Copy is active.  Am I doing something wrong or is this something the software cannot do?  Thank you for your help.

    Hi Bryan,
I'm afraid you're in the wrong forum! This one is for acrobat.com, which is different from Acrobat (I know, very confusing). Here's the link to the forum you're looking for:

Good luck, and I hope the issue gets resolved over there.

  • Is there a way to edit a PDF with a full blown version of Adobe 5.0

Is there a way to edit a PDF with Acrobat 5

If it is a form, then there should be fillable fields that change to an I-bar as you move the hand over the field. If the hand does not change, then it is not technically a form -- only looks like one. You can use the form tool in AA5 to add fields to complete, use the typewriter tool (or it is some other name in AA5), or select the text touch up tool and hold down the ctrl key as you place the cursor to create a new text box.

  • Editing imported PDF forms

Can I edit, in Adobe Acrobat, a form I created in Acrobat and imported to Forms Central? I need to add copy and I don't want to lose the responses I've already gotten.

    Hi Karen;
You can edit the PDF without breaking the submit process or losing existing responses as long as you do not modify the form fields, if you are just adding copy to the pages but not to the form fields it should be fine.
Here is an FAQ on editing FormsCentral PDFs in Acrobat (I understand this was an imported PDF): http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-3661
Another option would be to export the responses from that form, edit the original PDF the way you want it and then import this new edited PDF as a new form in FormsCentral where you could import the responses from the first form.
Let me know if you have any follow up questions.
    Thanks,
    Josh
