Editable PDF is not editable in this reader

I am opening a editable PDF via Dropbox however when I try to edit the PDF while it is open with this reader it says it is secure and so it does not let me fill it in?
Just to be clear it is a PDF that lets me type in text prior to saving or printing I just want to open it on the ipad and enter in the text and send it back to drop box. It is used by sales people on the road to complete forms with client details.

Adobe Reader for iOS does not yet support allowing users to make changes in a PDF that has been encrypted. From your description it sounds like this PDF likely has "permissions" applied to it, which results in the document being encrypted. We plan to get to this eventually, but do not yet have it scheduled.

Using 10.6.8, internet pdf documents not opening using Adobe Reader; how is this corrected?  I've tried changing "sharing and permissions" to "read and write" as suggested on other help sites, but this did not correct the problem.

I had the same problem---contacted Adobe and their service rep helped me by
    A.   Deleting  Adobe Reader from my iMac's Applications in Finder
    B.   Downloading Google Chrome browser and then
    C.   Downloading the latest Adobe Reader for Mac 10.6.8 in Google Chrome--it works
Adobe acknowledges problem with the latest Snow Leopard update 10.6.8 and with this work around, I can open PDF's using the Google Chrome Browser.
Is this the ideal solution---NO.  Safari is my main browser. I now have to use a separate browser for PDF's.
Am I happy to be able to open PDF's---YES
You can't believe the time I spent to solve this problem before calling Adobe for help. My Apple Care policy expired a month ago . As I use Photoshop Elements, I was not charged by Adobe for their help on the telephone.

  • Editable PDF Type Not Showing Up on iPhone & iPad

I set up an editable pdf form for my client in Adobe Acrobat Pro. He is able to type in it and save it and able to see what he has typed, but when he sends it to someone that opens it on their iPad or iPhone they are not able to see what he has typed. Should it be saved a certain way for the iPad & iPhone?

Chances are the recipient is using a PDF application that does not process interactive PDF forms; for example, the Apple PDF Viewer does not process interactive PDF forms.
If the recipient installs the Mobile Adobe Reader, he/she should be able to view the interactive PDF forms that are sent to them.
Failing that, the sender can choose to flatten their forms prior to sending.  This will remove the interactivity of the form, but will make the form content show up in PDF applications that do not process interactive PDF forms.
    Hope this helps,
    Darrell

  • Edited pdf does not display properly

I scanned in doc to a .pdf. It displayed properly on iPad (iBooks). I added some text using preview. It did not display when reading it to iBooks. Thinking it was a layering issue, I "Flattened" the file with Adobe Acrobat Pro, and freaked it to iBooks. Still does not display the added text. Added text is displayed by Adobe Reader for iPad. How do I get the iBooks program to properly read an edited .PDF? Is it really necessary to print and rescan the .PDF each time? Can I add the text in IBooks?

Stick with Adobe Reader. iBooks will not and cannot display form fields or edited text in a PDF as you have learned. You cannot add text in iBooks either. You can't change that. The built in mail app is also incapable of displaying edited PDF files. Adobe Reader is much more robust and feature rich than iBooks, which I'm sure you have already seen for yourself.
iBooks pales in comparison as a useful PDF tool. i think that you will be much better off using Adobe Reader.

  • Edited PDF does not contain viewable text in an email.  Why?

I am currently using Acrobat Pro 8.0 on a MacBook Pro.  I used to be able to edit PDF documents by adding text to them and sending them in an email.  Now that I have upgraded my OS to Mavericks, I can't read the edited text in the pdf.  Any suggestions?

  • Placing Multipage PDF only (not editable)

    Hi,
I used this to load multipage pdf (Open multipage PDF | Ai Scripts) and it's good,
but I want to place only my PDF so I can relink it when needed, do you have idea or another script?
    thanks

that's not possible using this workflow since the data becomes native AI data and al relation to the source file is lost.

  • Making an editable PDF Form non-editable (a shortcut)

How to make a PDF form non-editable or locked.
For those who aren't script-savvy, I believe this may be a little shortcut to editing a PDF form and then saving and sending it as a non-editable or locked PDF.
This is what I have written out for my client, whom I provided an editable PDF Form, so they could edit the PDF and then send it out to their own respective clients as a NON-editable PDF.
    Instructions as follows:
How to save your PDF Form into a separate non-editable PDF to send to your client: (Using Adobe Acrobat Professional)
Step 1. Fill out the original PDF Form
Step 2. Once finished, go to “File” menu and click “Save a Copy” - title the file appropriately and save it to the desktop.
Step 3. Close the editable PDF document and do not save it (Saving it will save over the original file). Now open up the PDF you’ve just saved to
the desktop (you’ll now take the steps to make this file only non-editable).
Step 4. In the top menu, go to “Advanced” then select in that drop down menu “Security” then “Show Security Properties” - a ‘Document Properties’ window will now appear.
Step 5. From this new window, select the “Security” Menu.  Set your ‘Security Method’ to ‘Password Security’.
Step 6. A new window will appear named ‘Password Security Settings’. In this menu, tick the box that says “Restrict Editing & Printing of the document”
you’ll need to a) set a password for it,  and  b) In the ‘Printing Allowed’ drop down box, select ‘high resolution’   and if you want to, tick the
box that says ‘allow the copying of text, images and other content’
Step 7. Click OK and Save the document. Now it’s not editable unless you have the password.
Note: If you happen to want to edit the PDF at a later date, you can open the file and in the ‘Security settings’ menu on the left hand side
(the menu is represented as a little gold lock) click ‘Permission Details’ then ‘Change Settings’ to revert everything back to an editable document
    - repeat the above steps to make it a locked document again.

Thanks for your suggestions. You should also consider flattening a form if you want a non-editable copy; because the permissions password is not always respected by third-party PDF applications (for some people the form will remain editable, depending on what software they're using).
Flattening a form can be done in several ways in Acrobat: you can run a script - this.flattenPages() - or print the PDF back to PDF (aka refrying), or use the Sanitize tool in Acrobat X. It also strips out hidden content associated with the form (button actions, field calculation scripts, etc.) so provides additional data protection. Sanitize is the heavy-duty option of the three; it will remove all hidden content, leaving only what you see on the page.
One correction to your workflow - the Save a Copy menu item is not intended for creating a duplicate of a normal form, it's only available if the  form has been rights-extended and it serves to remove the extension certificate from the PDF (allowing full editing in Acrobat again). As your client is working in Acrobat they don't need a rights-extended version in the first place, and working with a normal form will make things simpler for them. In Acrobat X Pro you could create them a custom Action which automatically flattens the file and saves a duplicate, so they don't accidentally overwrite the original.

  • How to convert editable pdf into non-editable version for printing option only without setting up passwards?

I am using IOS system with pdf preview functions. I try to convert editable pdf file into read only for others to print without access to edit the file.
The only way I can do now is to convert to jpeg for each page and convert back to pdf then combine all pages together. It takes a lot of time in this case.
Can anyone tell me how to do the conversion without setting up passwards for protection?
    Thank you very much!

First of all, don't use all CAPS as it means shouting.
Second, your question is completely off-topic for this forum which discusses Microsoft Office Outlook.
Third, this is a peer-to-peer forum, don't count on anyone calling you. If you want dedicated support from Microsoft, contact Microsoft Support directly.
Anyway, you can insert the picture in to OneNote and then have OneNote convert it into text. This usually isn't very accurate for scans though.
A better solution would be to use a application which is dedicated to OCR. There are various out there. I suggest you try their demo versions to find out which works best with your handwriting.

  • PDF form not editable

    Hi,
I have created a form with an input element and bound the same to a context attribute. I have embedded the Interactive form in my view and set it to enabled.
When I run the WebDynPro application, the PDF gets displayed, but I am not able to enter any data/edit into the input field of the PDF form. I am not able to click on the submit button that I have in the form.
I have Active Component Framework and Adobe Lifecycle Designer installed in my system. Can you help me out?
    regards,
    Praveen Kumar

    Hi,
Please add the following code in the WDdoModifyView method to make the form editable.
data: LR_INTERACTIVE_FORM type ref to CL_WD_INTERACTIVE_FORM,
    LR_METHOD_HANDLER type ref to IF_WD_IACTIVE_FORM_METHOD_HNDL.
    check first_time = abap_true.
    LR_INTERACTIVE_FORM ?= VIEW->GET_ELEMENT(‘INTERACTIVE_FORM_1’).
    LR_METHOD_HANDLER ?= LR_INTERACTIVE_FORM->_METHOD_HANDLER.
    LR_METHOD_HANDLER->SET_LEGACY_EDITING_ENABLED( abap_true ).
This makes the  form interactive in case you are using forms with Function module-based interface.
    Regards,
    Sharadha

  • Edited PDF Does Not Retain Fill Data on iPhone

When I input data in the fill boxes on a form I created with Acrobat which has been sent to my iPhone, the text that was added in the fill forms does not stay on the document after emailing it to myself and opening it in my email preview. The data, however, will show up when I open it on my computer(mac) email preview.

You're experiencing a limitation of the built-in iOS PDF viewer which is used by apps like Mail and DropBox. It doesn't properly display filled in form data or annotations.
You MUST view the resulting file in Adobe Reader or Acrobat on Mac or PC, or on Adobe Reader for iOS or Android to see the data correctly.

  • How does one create a fillable/editable PDF for end users of Adobe Reader?

An example would be a business card design where users could change the name, email, etc. I am working in Acrobat Pro X, In Design 5.5, etc on a Mac. I know it's possible b/c I've seen it done. Need fonts to be embedded. I've tried various things but nothing has worked. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • How do I save edited PDF forms as editable PDF templates?

We need to download empty pdf forms, add some generic details (eg our company name and address) and then save that as a template so we can then open it and fill out through the year for different clients with their own individual data without having to fill in our own address again.
Preview cannot do this. On Tiger you can save the edited file, but it prevents it from then being editable again; in Leopard you can fill in the form with your data, save it, then open your saved file and edit it again but none of the data you added the first time has been saved.
We have to go into Windows and fire up Acrobat Reader 4.0 which has this functionality. All versions of Acrobat above v4 on both Windows and Mac were unable to do this so Preview isn't alone. It is frustrating though as we have to do this all the time - we fill out tax return forms for many different clients each year and really don't want to have to add our data manually each time.
Any suggestions? Any settings I can tweak anywhere?

    Basilisk wrote:
If Preview is not for editing, why has it been made possible with the Leopard release to reorder the pages within a pdf, delete pages, and add completely different pages from other pdfs?
There's a huge difference between reordering existing pages and altering their content. The PDF specification is quite vast and Apple doesn't even attempt to support much of it because of the work involved.
The bottom line is that Preview doesn't do what you want it to and that's certainly not going to change anytime within the next year, so it's up to you to decide what to spend your money on. Since it seems that you are using this for business purposes I'd say it's a little silly to gripe about such a trivial investment, but again, it's up to you.
You could also hire someone to put together your templates for you.
