Editable text lost in scroll panel

When I convert a text box to a scroll panel the text becomes uneditable
Am I doing something wrong?
I create the Scroll bar then select the scroll bar and the text block and chose scroll panel in the HUD then I choose the text box as the scrolling content
that is when it becomes uneatable.
Any work around?

I am having some newbie issues with text in scroll panel as well.. I have been trying to generate the text as part of a design oin illustrator. ( Very similar to the design shown in Top 5 catalyst cs5 features by terry white.) I can create a text panel in illustrator that appears to continue on without laying down on top of the border of the design. However, when I try to open the design with this text panel in catalyst it converts the text into vectors. when I try to drill down to open additional text as described in the tutorial, I am unable to do so.. I am guessing that the vectorization is the issue? I have tried to develope the text directly in catalyst but I am unable to find a method that does not have the text outside the desired area running all over the rest of the
design.
Again, I am a complete newbie. I have managed to replicate all other features and functions of the design. I am just not able to find the solution for this issue. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Editing text in a scrolling DIV?

i have a site made up of DIV text boxes, with their OVERFLOW
set to SCROLL. the text is black on a light blue background, but
the page has a very dark brown background.
when i go to edit the page in Contribute, i can edit the text
in the box, but the text that overflows spills down over top of the
dark background, making it impossible to read/edit/scroll down to.
does anyone have any ideas how i can edit ALL of the text in that
    DIV?
    the site in question is
    www.alexnussbaum.com

thanks for the response. i could cut and paste, as the
designer, but i'm concerned about my clients, who are just
Contribute users. that's the whole idea of Contribute, you know? to
make this stuff easy for them. it's too bad Contribute doesn't keep
the scrolling of the DIV intact to make editing easier...
and i tried the Design Time style sheets, but it doesn't
quite work. in DW it works no problem, then the first time you use
Contribute to create a page from a template, it works, but it's
when you try to go back for a second time to edit the page is when
things start to not function properly. the DTSS is not recognized,
and the editable area appears to be uneditable. hypotetically it
    works, but not in practice...

  • Text continues moving horizontally rather than starting a new line in editable text field

I am trying to make a feed backbox for visitors on my website. I have made the editable text field and scroll bar and set all of my preferences, but when the typing reaches the border on the right of the text field it just continues to type further horizontaly. I can start a new line by pressing enter but I would like it to start a new line on its own when it reaches the boundary. Any help is appreciated.

assign your textfield's wordWrap property to true.

  • Help with Scroll Panel

I'm mocking up a site for a friend of mine and I have 2 questions about a scroll panel.  First when I create text then convert it to a scroll panel component it always adds the text "Add More Content Here" somewhere in the middle of my content.  I convet back to artwork to get rid of it and then go to scroll panel again and its back.  Super frustrating.  You can see the example here: (hover over the "Own" button for the scroll panel)
    http://http://jeffstonebraker.com/beta/pf/Main.html
also I am wondering if it is possible to make a hyperlink out of some of the text in the scroll panel?  Such as the online links in the example above.
    Thanks for your help.
    Jeff
ps here is the project file if that helps.  (sorry for the file size, I need to clean up the library)
    http://jeffstonebraker.com/beta/pf/povertyflats.fxp

I had this problem too.  Try this: before you convert to a scroll panel component, make sure your text box is tall enough so that you can see all your text without needing to scroll -- you may have to extend it down beyond the lower boundary of your project.  When you convert to a scroll panel, it will resize to the height of your scroll bar.

  • What styles are lost when importing/converting PS text to editable text?

In CS5.5, when I import a PSD file with one or more text layers (retaining layer styles and editable layer styles) some of the layer styles change upon import.
In addition, after import, in the Comp panel, sometimes there are no visual differences between that display and the display in PS. But in individual style layers in the Timeline panel, things have changed. Most typically, strokes with gradients are changed either to a solid color (gray or red) or to a simple white-to-black gradient. How is it the display can show a gradient when the stroke layer shows a solid color?
When the text layers are converted to editable text, those changed style properties kick in.
I'm guessing some or all of this has to do with AE text not being able to have a gradient for the fill or stroke? That being the case, is there a work-around?
If this goes beyond not being able to use a gradient for fill or stroke, what are the "rules"? What styles are lost/changed upon import and when converting to editable text?

After Effects includes the entire Photoshop rendering engine, so any PSD and its layer styles should render fine (i.e., just like in Photoshop). If it doesn't, please submit a bug report.
But After Effects does not include the entire UI from Photoshop for creating and modifying layer styles.
The layer styles feature in After Effects exists primarily to provide fidelity between what you see in Photoshop and what you see in After Effects---not so that you can add and modify layer styles in After Effects. The UI in the Timeline panel is therefore a barebones implementation that doesn't include many of the features of layer styles in Photoshop. As you observe, there are many cases in which the representation in the Timeline panel is much more simplistic than what is in the Composition panel.
This separation between the UI and the ability to render with good fidelity is most apparent with pattern overlays. See this video for a good demonstration of how to use layer styles in After Effects by tapping into these features in Photoshop:
    http://library.creativecow.net/articles/harrington_richard/photoshop_layer_styles_with_ae. php
    > In CS5.5, when I import a PSD file with one or more text layers (retaining layer styles and editable layer styles) some of the layer styles change upon import.
How, exactly, do they change? A screenshot would be useful.
If it's what I'm suspecting, then the page that Mylenium points you to has the clue:
"When a layer style is applied to a vector layer—such as a text layer, a shape layer, or a layer based on an Illustrator footage item—visual elements that apply to the edges of the contents of the layer apply to the outlines of the vector objects, such as text characters or shapes. When a layer style is applied to a layer based on a non-vector footage item, the layer style applies to the edges of the layer’s bounds or masks."
When you convert between Photoshop text and editable text, you're changing the render order and also switching between raster images and vectors. This can affect appearance in many ways.

  • Pattern overlay lost when converting to editable text?

    Hey everyone.
    I'm using CS5, PC.
I'm facing an issue I never faced before and I can't find a relevant answer for CS5. I did see an answer that is probably correct for CS3, but I hope its solves by now.
    Try 1.
I imported a PSD as composition with merge layer styles.
I then go to a text layer, which I want to convert to an editable text layer. When I open the properties, no layer styles appear. (because I chose mergerd layer styles composition..)
The original PSD in photoshop has only a pattern overlay.
When I convert it to editable text, the pattern overlay disappears.
    Try 2.
same importing settings.. go to the text layer...
Right click ->layer style -> convert to editable layer styles - - - > Patter overlay + Blending options appear in layers properties.
Second Right click -> convert to editable text - - - > pattern overlay disappears.
    Try 3.
I imported a PSD as composition with editable layer styles.
I then go to a text layer, which I want to convert to an editable text layer. When I open the properties, 'Layer style' appears. can toggle on/off.
Right click -> convert to editable text - - - > pattern overlay disappears.
But -  'Layer style' still appears in the properties, and it's on. But now when I toggle on/off, nothing changes.. Pattern is gone..
    Conclusion:
From this I get to the conclusion, that I cannot convert a text layer which has a pattern overlay into editable text, and retain the pattern
I hope I'm wrong, and there is a way to retain the pattern.
Please let me know if you have a solution, or if you know for sure that my conclusion is correct..
    Thanks is advanced!

There is always a work around, there's just no easy workaround for unsupported layer styles to editable text. The complexity of the workaround depends entirely on what you are planning to do with your 'editable text' in AE. A little more info about your project would help.

  • Expand horizontal scroll panel on both sides for a zoom in effect

    Hi,
I'm creating an interactive timeline with Flash Catalyst. It is set up as a long horizontal scroll panel which contains buttons that link to states with photos and text about historic events. One feature I would like to include is a zoom feature, like the one found on the bbc British history timeline (http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/interactive/timelines/british/index_embed.shtml ). E.g., when you click on a colored section of the horizontal scroll panel it will zoom in to view that timeframe in more detail.
The problem I'm running into is that I can't expand the scroll panel to the left. So, I can go into edit mode for the scrolling content, create a second state, and enlarge the scrolling content in that second state to create a zoom in effect. However, because the scrolling content will only expand to the right, I can't line up the interaction correctly.
Is there a workaround for this in Flash Catalyst?

    have a peek at this:
on the left, the corner radius (the red line) is enough to create a curve on the inside of the stroke. on the right, it isn't large enough.

  • Creating text that will scroll in a text frame

I have tried to create text that will scroll in a text frame by following this:
Create your text frame including any inline buttons or hyperlinks. Make note of its width and then draw the frame you wish to hold that content. Make it about 5-7 pixels wider than the text frame and align the two, top and left. Cut the text frame to the clipboard and choose the placeholder frame. Choose edit>past into.
With that frame select, from the overlay creator panel choose pan and zoom and check the pan only option.
When I get to the overlay creator panel and choose pan and zoom, it asks me to select a cropped image.  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.  Any help would be appreciated.
Also, I am not creating any of the content on the pasteboard.
    Please help. thanks

is the parenting frame cropping the inline text frame?

  • Button interactions within Scroll Panel/Content

I am creating a portfolio website using Flash Catalyst. On my Portfolio page I have a vertical scroll panel and within that panel I have little thumbnails of my artwork converted to a button component. So when the user click on the thumbnail I want the larger image to appear nearby. I make new states for the larger images within the scrolling content, but whenever I use the scroll thumb it also scroll the larger images that i want it to be in a fixed position. So is there anyway I can lock the larger image while user is able to scroll through the thumbnails. If not possible, is there anyway i can duplicate the events on the timeline from one page/state to another similar one?
If there is a better way to accomplish this please let me know too, I am all ears. If you need clarification on my issue, I will try my best to explain it through texts.

    Hi,
Here's a quick wireframe to illustrate the thumbnail separate from the detail image.   The large images could be in their own custom component or in different states in the main timeline (per this example).
The scroll bar needs be edited to look nicer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Dual scroll panels help!

I used Flash Catalyst CS5.5 to create a feature with two links to popup windows that had scroll panels for text only (with a background). I was able to get the popups to function properly and the text scroll panels to function properly.
Problem One: After publishing both projects and uploading, they are utilizing the same text. I tried putting one in a subdirectory, but that didn't work. What files can I rename to run both panels in the same directory?
Problem Two: My panels both have cut off the text... how can I add it back? Is there a simple way to do that?
I know this is probably an easy problem but Flash is new to me. Any help would be great!
This is the page I'm working on:
    http://www.parkcity-dogtown.com/press.htm

OK. I figured out how to separate the filenames. Thanks everyone for your help
Now I need to edit the swf files to add text... Any help would be appreciated...

  • I cannot edit text in a PDF created from scanning

I am using Adobe XI, and I have created a PDF by scanning a document.
When I do click on a paragraph to edit text, all the page appears selected, it seems to be an image. At that moment a message pops up saying: this page has not editable text or digitalized content. The editing tools are disabled, so I cannot edit text.
If I do export a page to Excel or Word, I can edit text there, although there are some kind of data that is not converted properly (even when I have executed OCR).
I have edited preferences, but I am not sure if I did it correctly.
    Thanks

I am using Acrobat XI Pro on PC.
Of course, I have done all the steps you mention,  but I wanted someone to confirm me if these setting values are correct in order to obtain the best results. I repeat the paragraph of my previous discussion that I want to clarify, just in case some of you can help me, mainly about optimization
I digitalized the document from the scanner. This scanner is installed in the net, so I personalized the settings in Acrobat and I chose memory mode instead of native mode.
    Mode color: black on white
    Resolution: 600 ppp
As you say in your mail, I understand I should choose ClearScan OCR not searchable just at this moment.
Well, and what about the options of optimization?, JBIG2 (without lost)?, 4 CCITT?
And filters?, I have: activated, low, activated, medium
Are these values congruous or compatible?
    Thank you

  • FAQ: How do I create a scrolling panel in Flash Catalyst?

A common challenge in web design is finding space in the available window to display all of the necessary content. One solution is to create scrolling panels. A panel creates a well-defined container for content in the user interface. By adding scrolling content and a scroll bar, you can place a large amount of information in a limited space. To create a scrolling panel in Flash Catalyst, you need:
An object to define the panel area, such as a rectangle shape (optional)
Scrolling content, such as a long block of text or a series of images (required)
A scroll bar used to scroll the content (recommended)
Follow these steps in Flash Catalyst Help to create a scrolling panel:
    Create a scroll panel component
There are also video tutorials showing examples of different scrolling panels:

    Hi Every Body,
I've succeed to add a new "Edit Text" in the invoice Form (133) with c# :
    oItem = oInvoiceForm.Items.Item("103");
                        oNewItem = oInvoiceForm.Items.Add("EditText1", SAPbouiCOM.BoFormItemTypes.it_EDIT);
                        oNewItem.Left = oItem.Left;
                        oNewItem.Width = oItem.Width;
                        oNewItem.Top = oItem.Top + oItem.Height + 1;

                        oNewItem.Enabled = false;
                        oEditText = ((SAPbouiCOM.EditText)(oNewItem.Specific));
and I've added a new Field in an existing table (OINV) Documents Marketing.....
What I want to do now is to link the new "Edit Text" to the added Field so that informations could be retreived from the table. How can I proceed? Have I to use User Interface, Data Interface? Have I to use datasource, DataBind??
I have to say that I'm a little bit lost in the code
    Thank you for helping me.

    Hi Haifa,
you have to bind the field to a dbdatasource named "OINV", your field.

  • How do i add a an editable text area along with a basic shape?

    hiee
Thank u guys for replying to my previous query.I got the solution.
Now ,my problem is, whenever i am drawing a new shape on the panel i want to add an editable text area along with the shape so that the shape can be given a userdefined name(something like Rational Ross).
I am using g.drawString() but with that i can only add a static string.
How can i add a JTextField or JTextArea along with the shape??
    Thanking u guys in advance.
    anvesha.

It is considered standard procedure to acknowledge people's replies in the corresponding thread.
As for your current problem, you'll have to make sure that the component you're subclassing is at least a Container. A JPanel could be a good pick. Set the layoutManager to null. Add your JTextField to your JPanel and use myTextField.setBounds(x, y, width, height) to place it whereever you want.

  • Can't edit text in a client's file... Wisdom appreciated!

A client has sent me a file (PDF) that contains various elements: typography that's editable, illustrations that are editable, and some typography that does not seem to be editable in Illustrator.
The apparently non-editable type shows up each character as an individual element, but not as outlines; the characters are in a bounding box but if I click View>outline, I don't see the character's outlines I just see an empty rectangle.
The file came from an artworker and I don't know if he's got a different version of illustrator to me or what...
Keen to sort this withough having to re-type out all of the detail...
    Any suggestions?!
    Thanks

Likely a different version. Since you don't see the outlines OR the editable text in "Outline" mode, that tells me the text is embedded as a graphic or Symbol. Look in the Symbol panel and see if there are characters there.
Can you "Jump into" an individual character by double-clicking?
What do you see listed in the Layer panel for each element?
