Editable/Uneditable Region (Template)

Hi,
I am using dreamweaver to design my personal website. I need some help please.
I created a template and designed some pages based on it. I have two editable regions in the template. I want to change one of them to uneditable.
Could you please tell me how to do it?
Thank you for your help.
Ray

Hi,
here is an ADOBE tuorial, where you will find some hints how to "Insert a non-editable optional region" or "Insert an editable optional region":
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_Using/WScbb6b82af5544594822510a94ae8d65-7aa9a .html#WScbb6b82af5544594822510a94ae8d65-7aa8a.
And "make an editable tag attribute uneditable":
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_Using/WScbb6b82af5544594822510a94ae8d65-7aa2a .html
The links are a little bit long, hope you will see them!

  • Editing uneditable regions on template using CS4

    I am updating an existing website using CS4.(I'm new at this) I went into the template made changes & saved it. None of the changes show up on the web pages. The update dialog box did not show up when I saved the changes.  When I went into the Asset file under templates there were none showing up.  But the template file is under the local files.  Obviously I'm missing something.  Please help.

    I'll save the original poster some trouble.
    Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes not propagating from Template to child -
    1.  Rename the Templates folder
    2.  Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other than root level
    3.  Move a template out of the Templates folder.
    4.  Make changes to an editable region of the Template (which will not propagate)
    5.  Assume that Template changes will be effected by just uploading the changed Template file to the server without also uploading the changed local files
    6.  Corrupt the site cache so that the link between Template and child page is broken
    7.  Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the Template, adding page specific content, and resaving the Template with an *.html extension rather thanits *.dwt extension. (you can tell if this is the case by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything like <!-- TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done).  If you *have done this*, then recreate the child pages (in DW) using FILE | New > Page from Template, select the Template and click CREATE.
    The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing them.  Have you done any of those?

  • Is there any way to edit an uneditable region and still keep it uneditable?

    I have a hobby site: http://www.grantbarker.com
    I've just got into Facebook and Google+ and I've added a couple of share this site buttons in my main menu. The main menu is linked to a template so that any changes propogate to the other pages. I'm not much of a coder. I'd like the Facebook and Google+ buttons on each page's menu to simply have that pages url to share (share this page, not site). This means that I need them to be different on each page, but I'd like the menu itself to propogate from my template.
    The menu is more important and I don't mind adjusting the Facebook and Google+ button code by hand.
    How would you do this? Is it possible to break into the uneditable region via the code screen to hack the page, so to speak?
    Thanks for any advice.
    (I'm not sure if it's possible to have the actual 2 buttons themselves independent from the menu's uneditable region.)
    Have a good day. I must get ready for work. Will check back this evening.

    Sorry, I didn't maybe word it correctly?
    I already use a template for the main menu (plus other regions) on all of my 60 pages.
    If I want to change just a couple of things on some of the menus on some of the pages, but keep most of the menu the same, is it possible to hack into the code on some of the pages, just to change a few small details?
    I realize that using the template will propogate to all of my child pages. I just want to be able to also add a few extra changes to some of those child pages when necessary.
    EG. Imagine I was a dentist. I want all of my 60 patients to have the same mouth and exactly the same set of teeth, but a few of them I would like to also have special fillings on their teeth.
    I wonder if it is possible to open a few of the child pages in code view and make a few small cosmetic changes to the code when necessary.
    When I update my main menu with the template it will update all of the child pages as expected. Then I'd like to hack a few of those pages to make tiny changes to those menus.
    Sorry, if I'm not explaining myself so well.
    Thanks for any advice.

  • Unable to edit header regions of template

    I have just recently taken over the whole editing etc, publishiing , admin of some  websties.  i have purchased contribute CS5. I was previously using Contrbute 4, which allowed me to edit the whole of the pages'header, body etc..'  however, whereas the consultant adminsitrator allowed me to edit the header regions, I now do not seem to be able to do this in CS5.  Is it because the  administrator has done something to stop me or am I missing some vital bit of info.  I can edit the content.  The old administrator is acting as if I never could do this and says I need to use Dreamweaver, which I dont have and didnt need it before, I have open the index page in dreamweaver and I still find that I am unable to edit the header and it appears to be try to access an included file,  it is trying to access Templates/base.dwt trouble is this does not exist among the files, any idea's why this might be so or is there some trick to editing the headers now that I am missing, cheers in addvance
    dustin

    Hi Dustin,
         You can edit the existing template in the Dreamweaver as for you requirement, by creating connection to that site in Dreamweaver.
    While saving the template, Dreamweaver will prompt you, asking for updating the pages using this template. You can update all the pages using that template. So then changes you did in the template will be reflected in those pages.
    For example, if you place the Header part in Editable region and save the changes and update in all the pages, then when you edit those pages, the header part will be editable.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Warning about uneditable region of dwt

    I've run into a situation where I need to copy and paste some
    sections of an existing page into the editable regions of a new
    page (obviously based on a template).
    After doing some cut and paste into the new document in Code
    view I get a warning (when I preview in browser) that I've made
    changes in an uneditable region. But if I move to Design view and
    copy/paste it works fine.
    I can actually go into the code in the new page, add a space
    right in the middle of an editable region and get the error, but
    don't get any error in Design view.
    I can debug the template, but I can't figure out what could
    possible cause the situation. The template looks fine and I've
    worked quite a bit with it over time. Can someone offer up some
    possible causes?

  • Modify a report region template

    Hi
    I am new on Apex, so my question could seem elementary! :-(
    I would like to create a mutiple report on one region, as explained and described on this forum in many places, but I am stuck at the begining!!
    - How can I copy a report region template?
    and
    - How can I copy a page template?
    Many thanks for your lights
    Regards,
    Fred

    Hi Fred,
    In your application, go to Shared Components, Templates. Then click the Create button and select the template type. On the next prompt, ensure that you select the "As a Copy of an Existing Template" option, then click Next until you get to a list of current templates. Change the name of the template you want to copy and change the Copy? drop-down from No to Yes and click the Copy xxxx Templates button. You will then be returned to the templates list - click on your new template to edit it.

  • Make a editable repeating region

    Having one heck of a time with this. Let me break it down.
    I have a nav bar. On this nav bar, when you click on a link. It will  show the link(really a box) green. This calls for my  code...class="active" on the page that your now on.
    The only problem with that. Is that its hell to make this a DW template.
    I have my nav bar as a repeating region. So that in the future I may  change a link or redesign a button. But, this make my nav bar not  editable on new pages. I have to be able to edit the <a> tags. I  have to change them from...<a href="whatever"> to <a  href="whatever" class="active">
    Here is my code so far. I have make the <a> tags editable, but  when i change the titles of the link from the master template, they will  not update
    <div class="main-box">
    <div class="left-top-corner">
    <div class="inner"><!-- TemplateBeginRepeat name="MenuRepeat" -->
    <nav>
    <ul>
    <li class="first"><!-- TemplateBeginEditable  name="Editlink1" --><a href="../index.html"  class="active"><span><span>Reviews</span></span></a><!--  TemplateEndEditable --></li>
    <li><!-- TemplateBeginEditable  name="Editlink2" --><a  href="../guides.html"><span><span>Guides</span></span></a><!--  TemplateEndEditable --></li>
    <li><!-- TemplateBeginEditable  name="Editlink3" --><a  href="../New_Updates.html"><span><span>News &amp;  Updates</span></span></a><!-- TemplateEndEditable  --></li>
    <li><!-- TemplateBeginEditable  name="EditLink4" --><a  href="#"><span><span>Downloads</span></span></a><!--  TemplateEndEditable --></li>
    <li><!-- TemplateBeginEditable  name="Editlink5" --><a  href="#"><span><span>Store</span></span></a><!--  TemplateEndEditable --></li>
    <li><!-- TemplateBeginEditable  name="Editlink6" --><a  href="#"><span><span>Forums</span></span></a><!--  TemplateEndEditable --></li>
    <li class="last"><!-- TemplateBeginEditable  name="Editlink7" --><a  href="#"><span><span>Soapbox</span></span></a><!--  TemplateEndEditable --></li>
    </ul>
    </nav>
    <!-- TemplateEndRepeat -->

    I have a nav bar. On this nav bar, when you click on a link. It will  show the link(really a box) green. This calls for my  code...class="active" on the page that your now on.
    This is a wrong approach to the problem, and one that results in the contortions that you are now going to trying to make it work!
    Consider this alternative VERY simple approach, and one that is consistent with the notion that navigation elements should never be editable in a template environment -
    <ul>
    <li class="first"><a href="../index.html"  id="button1">Reviews</a></li>
    <li><a  href="../guides.html" id="button2">Guides</a></li>
    <li><a  href="../New_Updates.html" id="button3">News &amp;  Updates</a></li>
    </ul>
    Note that each menu link has been given a unique ID attribute.  Now - in the editable region in the head of each child page, you have an embedded stylesheet -
    <style type="text/css">
    a#button1 { whatever style you want; }
    </style>
    This is in an editable region so it can be edited on each page, where you would just change the button # to correspond to that page.  Simple, effective, and easy.
    By the way, there is no such tag as <nav>, so your code won't validate!

  • 'Scrollable Content Region' - Region Template - Anybody used successfully?

    I have just implemented a "Data Load" function which is the OOTB page type in apex 4.2 which allows the end user to go through a wizard and import csv data into a table.
    When the user is viewing the data to be imported - they have to scroll across the length of the screen (depending on how many columns you are loading).
    I noticed there is a Region template called "Scrollable Content Region". I tried applying this template to my region, and when this didn't work, to a container region.
    The scrollbars appear (horizontally and vertically) but they are greyed out as the region is still at max width and you have to use the browser to scroll instead.
    I think this looks untidy as the header colour-styling ends, as well as other regions being stretched.
    Has anyone used this successfully before?
    Amanda.

    Hi Amanda,
    What I've done with this region is edit the template and change the style for the div.uRegionContent.  You'll see that it says "overflow: scroll", I change it to "overflow: auto", this way the scroll bars will only show when they are needed.
    The other useful thing is to remove the hardcoded height and define it on a per region basis.
    So, if my region ID (STATIC_REGION_ID) is empRegion then the height can be defined as:
    #empRegion > .uRegionContent {height: 600px;}
    Of course you could do this without modifying the region by adding !important.
    #empRegion > .uRegionContent {height: 600px!important; overflow: auto!important;}
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Issue with using SSXA region templates with Content Presenter.

    I am using Content Presenter taskflow in Webcenter Portal. When i try to use the SSXA region template with content presenter, it doesnot render the html markup. But if i use normal UCM region templates(hscp), its rendering the html markup properly.
    Http Server acts as a proxy for both webcenter and ucm. Enabled SiteStudio, SiteStudioforExternalApplications, Webcenter Configure and other required features in Webcenter. Can any one tell me, if i missed any step?
    All i am getting the output as
    ${data.body}
    Taskflow binding
    <taskFlow id="doclibcontentpresenter1"
    taskFlowId="/oracle/webcenter/doclib/view/jsf/taskflows/presenter/contentPresenter.xml#doclib-content-presenter"

    <parameter id="regionTemplate" value="${true}"/>
    <parameter id="maxResults" value="${''}"/>
    </parameters>
    </taskFlow>
    region template:
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
    <jsp:root xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page" version="2.1"
    xmlns:wcm="http://www.oracle.com/jsp/wcm">
         <wcm:dataFile var="data"/>
         ${data.body}
    </jsp:root>
    This uses one region definition containing WYSIWYG element. I am able to edit and could type the html markup or data in WYSIWYG editor at contribution mode, but when i click save and close, all i am getting output as ${data.body}
    I manually verified the data file in UCM, and i could see the information stored (the data entered in contribution mode)

    Prasath,
    I'm not 100% sure but i believe that WebCenter does not support everything from the WCM tags. You can read the topic on SSXA on the WebCenter EMG:
    https://groups.google.com/group/webcenter-emg/browse_thread/thread/2ef9cca0252a0ae3
    Just a quote:
    "With the 11.1.1.4 release, WebCenter is very much targeted at the type of sites that would have previously been done using the WCM components (eg. Extranet, Internet sites). By surfacing the site studio region templates (and allowing in place editing of the documents) many of the use cases can be met. The question now is not whether,or not, the native templating + region support is sufficient for your needs (WebCenter does not support all the WCM artefacts as yet). "

  • IF statement for navigation in a Region Template

    I have a region template where I display links to nodes in the current level.
    Example:
    level 0 nodes: About Us, Employees, Contact Us, Investors
    level 1 nodes of About Us: Fun Stuff, Photos, History
    level 2 nodes of History: 1910, 1920,1930
    So if I was in the section/level About Us>History my region template would display links to 1910,1920,1930. I know there is a fragment that does this for me but what I need is a little more custom.
    What I want to do is is write an if statement in the region template that says something like:
    If (currentlevel has children)
    display childrenlevelNodes
    else
    display parentlevelNodes
    endif
    Any ideas? I am a beginner when it comes to Idoc.

    Actually I got it working. Someone before me was using some code but it wasn't working exactly how I wanted. So I incorporated their code back in after your help with the childNodeId thing and now it works!!
    <!--$childLevel = level-->
    <!--$curLevel = level-->
    <!--$childNodeId = ssGetRelativeNodeId(siteId, nodeId, "child")-->
    <!--$parentNodeId = ssGetRelativeNodeId(siteId, nodeId, "parent")-->

  • How to edit multiple regions in one Piano Roll window

    I edit multiple regions in one Piano Roll window at the same time. (It is very handy way of editing especially in huge orchestra projects.)
    I can see midi contents of all selected regions in Piano Roll at the same time.
    1) But how to choose certain one region of many selected to edit it?
    2) And how to edit all at once?
    Hope the questions are clear enough.
    Thanks.
    Dmitriy.
    iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) 2,7 GHz Intel Core i5. 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3.
    OS X 10.10.2

    First of all, the Piano Roll has two mechansim, of what it is displaying.
    Selected Track: This displays all the Regions that you select in the Tracks Window
    One Track: Selecting one Region in the Track Area displays all the Regions of tha tTrack in the Piano Roll. If you select multiple Regions in the Tracks Window, then the last selected Regions counts.
    Whatever Regions are now displayed in the Piano Roll Editor can be edited. Select the MIDI Events and apply the command.
    You can also apply edits directly to the selected Regions in the Tracks Window.
    I explain all those little details in my graphically enhanced manuals ("Logic Pro X - How it Works")
    One thing to be clear about:
    Tracks Window: Any edit is applied to the selected Regions
    Piano Roll Editor: Ay edit is applied to the selected Events

  • Hide / Show region template - how to make it stay visible after NEXT& PREV?

    Hello,
    I am using the Hide / Show region template (by the way great idea to create this template ;)
    By default the region is hidden. If i want to see the region content (it is a report) I click on that icon and it becomes visible. For my report I use the pagination "ROW Ranges X to Y of Z (with pagination)".
    The issue is that if I click NEXT of Previous, the region is closing (hidding).. and in order to see the next / previous page of my report I have to re-open it..
    Is there any known workaround for this?
    Thank you in advance
    Anca

    I would start at Re: Toggle all hide show regions on a page open/closed
    It references the using javascript to manipulate your hide/show regions. It should get you started in the right direction. It is about the most straight-forward example I have seen for what you are trying to do<br><br>
    You could trigger the javascript after your page is rendered by calling it from the page footer and reference the values of page items to determine if you are supposed to hide the region(s).<br>
    Create a page item called P88_HIDESHOW_REGION1 and set it's value to Y or N depending on whether the #REQUEST# has a string in it that is part of report pagination. If you hover over a "next page" button in a report, check out the resulting URL that pops up in your browser.....it looks like ..../f?p=900:210:8352027355600111016:pg_R_241403738845262873:NO&pg_min_row=31&pg_max_rows=30&pg_rows_fetched=30
    <br>
    You could do an instr(:REQUEST,'pg_R_') > 0 then set P88_HIDESHOW_REGION1 = 'Y' else P88_HIDESHOW_REGION1 = 'N'. Your javascript called at the footer of the page could set the display of the region to on or off depending on the result of P88_HIDESHOW_REGION1

  • Wee inconsistency in region template "Form Table Attributes"

    In the region template definition there is a field for specifying form table attributes. If I specify table attribute(s) they work as expected. If I then add an item type of "Stop and start table" to the region, the custom attributes are not used in the subsequent tables.
    It's a minor thing... perhaps this can be fixed (or has been fixed) in 3.0?

    Atul:
    I dont know what the 'Alternate Source' is
    In the Source section set
    Source value or expression to be the name of the database column that has the URL (company_url)
    Post calculation Computation to be '<a h ref="' || :pxx_company_url || '">' || :pxx_company_url || '</a>'; where pxx_company_url is the page-item name.
    I have specified 'h ref' instead of 'href' so that the forum software doesnt mess up the post.
