Edited images are looking way too bright in Lightroom

I've been using LR for years now, but sometime in the last few months a problem developed.
I import images from the camera... they look fine.
When I edit them in PS and save them, they look like crap.
If I open the crap-looking photos in photoshop, they look fine.
I'm using Prophoto colour space at all times.  Here's an example of the problem.
It's a screenshot showing the same photo.  On left it is open in Photoshop,  On right it is open in Lightroom.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Brent

As to why the photo looks different in PSE than in Windows Picture And Fax Viewer, there are two possibilities:
1. Your display may have a color profile associated with it, either because you calibrated it with a calibrator or a profile was installed by the disk that came with your display.  PSE is "color managed" and will adjust the colors of a photo based on the display's color profile, whereas Windows Picture And Fax Viewer will not.  If you want fine control over accurate display of colors on your display, you'll need to calibrate it if you haven't already, and you should then only use color-managed programs like PSE to view your photos.
2. The photo you posted indicates that you've set your camera to use the Adobe RGB color space for JPEGs.  The Organizer has a bug and doesn't display the thumbnails (even large thumbnails) of such photos correctly.  The Organizer's Display > Full Screen (F11) and the Editor do display such photos correctly.  I'm not sure if this particular photo will trigger the bug, because of the way Nikon in particular stores color profiles in JPEGs.  You could see if you're getting hit by this bug by:
a. Open the photo in the Editor.
b. In the Organizer, make the photo's thumbnail as large as possible (not Full Screen view).
c. Adjust the zoom of the photo in th Editor to be about as large as the one in the Organizer.
d. Use Ctrl Tab to switch quickly between the two.  If you see differences, you're encountering the bug.

  • When saving an image in PS CS 6, and going back to Lightroom 5. The original image and the edited image are at the end of the line up.

I'm using a Mac, Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS 6. I've started having an issue with the line up in Lightroom 5 after saving an image from PS CS 6. For some reason when I save the edited image form CS 6 it's taking the edited image and the original image and putting it at the end of the line up in Lightroom. If I take the edited image and move it to the right of the original it will put both of them back in the line up where they should be. How do I fix this. I've been looking in the menu for some kind of setting  with no luck.

Either you have set Auto Tone adjustments set in Camera Raw preferences or have created a custom default ACR setting for this file type which is set to overexposed.

  • How do you make fonts back to default size in Firefox 24? They are blown way too big.

Since upgrading to Firefox 22 and 24, the font size has been extremely huge. The only way to make it smaller is ctrl - , but when I go to other sites the fonts are normal size.
I want to be able to get the default size font on the Firefox 24. I've been using Chrome because this has been so darned annoying, it's even causing Bing to screw up.
Can someone help me get this fixed?

This isn't the best way for it.
Coz my monitor isn't really big.(21.5')
It is very match for me by using 125%.
But for FF22(or above) is too big, and the photo will zoom in for 125%
    that was a mess.
And Chrome has the function but it isn't default but adjust from "chrome://flags"

  • The new ios7 update I can't size my wallpapers anymore. They are all way too big for the screen. Before I would just pinch to size it however I wanted and now it won't do this anymore. Really ***** because now you can't see the wallpapers fully.

Before the ios7 update we uses to be able to size our wallpapers backgrounds we choose to be the size we desire to fit our screen. Now we can't do this. Why? Is it something they left out for some reason or is there something I'm doing wrong?

Yes you can delete those temporary files as long as you've saved any changes you've made back to the main document. So I'd open the document with the same name without the ~ and hidden file attribute and make sure it's the way you want it. Then you can delete the temporary file.
The key command you want to enlarge text in internet explorer holding down command and hitting the =/+ key. Conversely the command and - key makes text in internet explorer smaller.

  • When I edit image it looks fine but when I save it, it goes all glitchy and some of it is transparent.

If you do not understand my title, here is a image of it. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2wlr4eo&s=8#.U-Iac9wXdlI So I'm using Photoshop CC, as I said, everything is fine until I save it.

  • FCP 7 Clip renders are taken way too long to render

I had FCP 6 and now im using FCP 7 and im running 10.6.6. I have some footage from my 7D that I converted to ProRes like im supposed to. and basic rendering is quick like transitions etc... but when even when I apply something simple like brightens filter or a composite mode soft light filter the render takes 3 times longer as it did on FCP 6 and the clips are not even that long. Can some one help?

ytoo many assumptions as StudioX points out but there's one more: just because you shoot with a "7D" doesn't mean anyone here knows what that is. I could say "170" and you'd not know if I was shooting with a Panasonic HD P2 system or ye olde Sony DV unit.

  • Photoshop CS2:  Saved Images Are Too Bright

Hi, I currently have a Photoshop CS2 problem that I need fixed.
When I go to save my files as a .PNG, .JPG, or any other file type (minus PSD), the images come out way too bright. But just by looking at the shortcut to the image, it looks exactly the same as it does in Photoshop. I'm currently having it at RGB Mode and 8 bit/channel settings. I've tried to mess around with the Color Management settings but with no luck. Can anyone help me out with this one?

bright where? outside of photoshop, like in a browser? you probably need to recalibrate your monitor, for a start.
bumping this for you in the meantime.

  • Images edited on Mac look like crap on PC (Windows). Why is this?

    HELLO, ARABIA HERE...
I'M USING A MAC 10.4.11 AND PHOTO SHOP CS TO RETOUCH PHOTOS FOR MY NEW PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS, THE FINISH PHOTOS LOOK BEAUTIFUL ON MY MAC...,BUT WHEN I SAVE THEM TO A DISK AND VIEW THEM ON A PC THAT'S RUNNING WINDOWS,THEY LOOK AWFUL?
    WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?
I SAVE THEM AS JPEG... SO I DON'T REALLY GET WHAT IS HAPPENING TO CHANGE THE PHOTOS SO DRASTICALLY .
IS THERE SOME CONVERSION HAPPENING THAT I'M NOT AWARE OF ?
OR IS THERE A STEP THAT I'M SUPPOSED TO DO WHEN SAVING TO A CD.
I MEAN IT'S NOT A SUBTLE CHANGE IT'S AS IF SOME ON THE STEPS I TOOK TO GET THE IMAGE THE WAY I WANT IT , ARE DELETED OR SOMETHING.
    SO THANKS IN ADVANCE!

    Ann's absolutely right, Arabia.
Save your jpegs to the sRGB colour space. Adobe RGB is best if you are looking to print a faithful, good quality reproduction of what you are seeing on your screen ( provided you have a decently calibrated monitor ). sRGB is commonly used for images that will be most often used on the web. If you haven't calibrated and want to have some idea of the difference between most uncalibrated screens and a calibrated one, go to System Preferences -> Displays -> Color -> Calibrate and let the Mac lead you through it's own calibration routine. Use Gamma 2.2 ( 1.8 is no longer widely used for Macs ) and use your own judgement when doing the adjustments. Give your finished calibration a name and then use that one , until such time as you feel you should be using a calibration tool to do it for you.
All things being equal , your monitor should appear darker than at present. Your editing will then be influenced by the darker image that you see. This is a good thing , as most monitors are set way too bright.
Let us know how you get on.
    Kind regards,
    David.

  • Images too bright in PSE, good in Windows Picture Viewer.

    Hi:
My question is this, I shot some pictures of my son last weekend, in studio,
with a Nikon D2X camera, and a softbox lightbank mounted on a Balcar
flash head. I set the camera to RAW-JPEG Fine, ISO 100, and used a
Minolta flashmeter to measure the light from the strobe. The reading was
f/8 and 2/3. The images look good in the LCD camera display, but when
I see them in my PC display, they look way too bright in Photoshop Elements 7.0,
but they look fine in the Windows XP SP3 Picture Viewer.
Why is this?. If I adjust the contrast and brightness in PSE, then they look too dark
when I check them in Windows Picture Viewer...
Also, the highlights look a little burned out in both, PSE and Windows Picture Viewer,
but the problem looks more evident in PSE. This happens often when I shoot pictures
    using strobe lights.
Can you help me with this two problems?.
I have attached one of the pictures so you can take a look at it.
    Thanks.

  • Colormunki calibrates my MacBook Pro monitor too bright.

I'm trying to calibrate my 15" MacBook Pro's monitor using a Colormunki Photo.   I've different setting but the results are always way too bright.   Anyone have and success or tips?

Turn off Zoom option in System prefs/ universal access/ seeing tab. Or press cmdopt (+/-) to adjust.
I'd turn it off just in case you hit it again.

  • Acrobat DC User Interface: Way to Change Theme? (Too Bright)

Just installed Acrobat Pro DC -- an first thing I notice compared to my typical darker themes (Windows, Office, and even previous Adobe product versions) is that the user interface is extremely bright. It's like surfing bright webpages, and hard on the eyes.
Is there any way to darken the UI (Themes, etc.) ?

I have to add my name to this series of complaints...
The new design is appalling. As others have said, it is way too bright with no contrast between documents and interface and no way to skin the UI the way you would like to. Not only that but it fails to remember where you last stored docs, instead featuring an annoying pop up asking me what I want to do next. Coming from the top design software suppliers in the world ( I thought ), you wonder why the team that designed this was not forced to lie on the floor while the rest of the Adobe designers laughed at them.
Seriously, was this designed for a 10 year old occasional user? Take that back a 10 year old would have moved on....
And that ghastly menu which takes up all that space with no contrast. And I know my name, you dont have to include it on the top right.
I really thought XI was a great tool and nice to use. This is a real step back.
Please give us some or all of the following:
    A customisable interface
An option to choose an "old-style" Adobe Acrobat XI option if we prefer
The ability to remove annoying features in a proper preferences setting (such as my name - did I mention, I know who I am)
    The ability to alter contrast
    Advanced settings
etc etc - Everything anyone has said above
And please - if anyone at Adobe actually listens, do NOT take this design and transfer it to your other software.

  • Images are very dark when printing??

Hi all, I'm new to printing with photoshop but having trouble and hope someone can help?...shooting in raw and RGB colour, converting images to jpg. In photoshop and they look great on screen, but skin tones and colours look really dark when printed?? What am I missing

In addition to calibrating your screen which will help with the colors, the odds are your display is turned up way too bright. Depending on the calibration system you get, it may allow setting the screen brightness to an optimum brightness. But you can reduce the brightness now even before you calibrate the display. Try 1/2 of the full luminance to see if that makes the display look more like your dark prints...
