Edited LR files & PSE5 organiser

Will PSE5 organiser display the LR edited RAW files? Or will they have to be converted to jpg or tiff etc?
Unfortunately I have already used my 30 day PSE5 trial, so am unable to put this to the test. Thanks
Steve

One of the main differences between Elements and LR that caused me to change my mind after using Elements for only a few weeks was the far greater support for metadata in LR. Elements users were using collections for purposes that it really isnt appropriate because it really was the only thing they could do. Also folders could be used for cataloging but folder view didn't work "properly". Neither collections nor folders are something that goes with the image like metadata does so I was very unhappy with those options.
I did evaluate LR beta before purchasing Elements, but it was the first release of LR V1 that made the difference because they made a number of significant changes between B4 and V1 that were important to me.
With LR you have many metadata fields you can choose to use for your own purposes, all of which can be exported to the file and hence your information is not lost should you choose to abandon LR at some future time.
I find I dont' want to put everything I want to say in the caption alone. In Lightroom I often use the Location fields and I also use the Job Identifier field to allow me to pull up groups of photos like trips or events.
In other words, you have a lot more flexibility in your organization with Lightroom over Elements.
I also had concerns about the ability of Elements to handle the number of images I would eventually be putting in. Elements is not considered a pro product. I had already experienced issues with the database in Elements 5 (database ballooning), so I felt it would be better to move now to a more professional product before I got too deep into this.
Besides, I think Elements is incredibly ugly and LR is beautiful. That is just the icing. I also found that I still used Photoshop for editing most of the time and not the Elements editor.

  • Transfering files from PSE5 organiser to CS4

    I have been tempted by Adobe to upgrade from PSE5 to CS4 at a reasonable price. I have about 6,000 individually named photos in pse5 organiser / pse5 "collections". If I upgrade to CS4 what do I need to do to process these organiser/collections images in CS4? Is there a way to transfer all these files, and keep their names/metadata, to CS4? In pse5 "organiser" I can locate any photo by typing in a key word from the photo title; can I do this in CS4 using my present pse5 files?
    Thanks in advance for your assistance.
    Malcolm

    Bear in mind that the image files do not "belong" to PS Elements they are just on your hard drive where you put them. They don't have to be transferred as you put it.
    I am not familiar with PSE but there is a function to export the keywords in a format which can be read by Photoshop proper. They will be available in Bridge where you can organise things.
    Sorry to be a bit vague but there is more information in the Bridge forum.

  • LR, Jpegs and PSE5 organiser

    I've been using LR since early betas for my RAW images and have had no problems (apart from the well documented "Automatically write changes into XMP" issue).
    Over the last couple of days I've imported a whole load of old jpegs to tweak - adjust W/B, remove red eye etc.
    My question: How do I get the edited jpegs show in PSE5 organiser?
    Steve

    In Lighroom, user file conversions are only done at export time. So you need to export the photo as a jpg.
    Go to:
    Develop module
    File menu
    Export selection
    fill out the window for the file format, size, color space and resolution, and what action you wan to occur after export, then click the export button.
    A jpg will be created for you to use anyway you want.

  • Remotely editing text files in Windows WinRM/PSExec/Powershell/cmd

    Hi!
    How can I remotely edit a text file in Windows?
    I am running and administering a number of Windows 7 workstations and Windows Server 2012 machines. I would like to be able to remotely edit text files on any of these machines. I can connect to any of these machines via psexec or powershell remoting. I
    can also connect via rdp, but for the workstations I would rather not kick the user off unless I absolutely have to.
    For example, we manage state configuration using
    Salt. Local configuration files are stored in C:/salt/conf. I would like to be able to edit these config files on the fly.
    This question on Stack Overflow covers the same topic, but none of the answers are particularly satisfying. Some of the possible solutions
    are:
    Remote Desktop: as I say, I would rather not have to kick a user off their workstation
    Edit a file over a UNC path: this only works for files on a share, and setting up arbitrary shares for quick edits seems like a bad idea.
    Install some manner of ftp or ssh server on all the target computers. This would certainly work, but it is it necessary with WinRM already active? I feel like installing and configuring extra software across all the machines in my organisation would be
    a last resort.
    Edit with a command line editor (e.g. vim, emacs) over a remote powershell session. This doesn't work. I don't understand the technical details, but a powershell remote session isn't interactive in the same way that ssh connections are.
    Edit using powershell's -replace operator, out-file and add-content cmdlets. This works, but is hardly the same as a fully featured text editor.
    Retrieve content from the remote, edit locally, and post back to the remote. This works, and is arguably the best solution I've found. Code sample from SO:
    PS C:\Users\Meredith> Invoke-Command -Session $ps -ScriptBlock {get-content c:/inetpub/myapp/web.config} > web.config
    edit web config
    PS C:\Users\Meredith> get-content web.config | Invoke-Command -Session $ps -ScriptBlock {set-content c:/inetpub/myapp/web.config}
    The last two options are the workflow that I've been using for now. Regex replacement for very simple changes, and copying to local and editing there for more complicated ones. Neither is ideal, but they work. It just feels incredibly old fashioned.
    I'm considering writing a plugin to my editor of choice (vim) to perform the remote fetch and save, to make my workflow a little bit smoother. Before I try that, I just want to know if there's anything that I've missed, or misunderstood.
    Cheers

    What is the "redirector"?
    I posted the same question to Stack Overflow, and was told about administrative shares. I wasn't aware of this, and it's exactly what I wanted. I can open the filetree of a remote machine with the path \\machinename\c$\. Perfectly simple, now that I know
    the answer.

  • Editing powerpoint files in sharepoint

    Hi,
    One of my clients is having issues editing powerpoint files in sharepoint 2013 (Office 365 hosted).
    He gets the following error when clicks edit and then clicks check out.
    "We're having trouble connecting to the server. If this keeps happening, contact your help desk."
    I have managed to work a fix for him by getting him to click the ... to the right of the document and then clicking check out and then opening the file again to edit it. However this is a sudden change to his process and an extra few steps he does not want
    to keep having to do.
    He is currently not the only user in the organisation to having this problem either.
    I have tried trawling through many instances of people having this error but it mainly seems to be in the links to the files which does not seem to be the case here as I have checked that problem. There must be some other underlying issue that due to my
    lack of experience with SharePoint 2013 (Office 365 hosted) I just am unable to discover.
    Thanks in advance for all help and advice it will be much appreciated!

  • How to open and edit "*.txt" file with "Notepad"

    Hello guys!
    I'm facing problem with SharePoint 2010 Enterprise and got no clue how to solve it.
    What I want to do is to open "*.txt" (which is placed to "Documents Library") in "Notepad", so I could edit it and save (publish) directly to SharePoint from "Notepad".
    If I upload any Microsoft office File, such as "*.docx", "*.xls", etc - it works as it should - document opens in appropriate application and everybody is happy.
    But, when I create documents library, put some "*.txt" file there and click on it - it opens in new browser's tab as text, so I cannot edit the file.
    What I tried to do is to activate feature "Open Documents in Client Applications by Default" - not happy.
    Edit "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\XML\DOCICON.XML" - I've modified "txt" entry as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <DocIcons>
        <ByProgID>
        </ByProgID>
        <ByExtension>
    <Mapping Key="txt" Value="ictxt.gif" EditText="Notepad" OpenControl="SharePoint.OpenDocuments"/>
        </ByExtension>
        <Default>
            <Mapping Value="icgen.gif"/>
        </Default>
    </DocIcons>
    Still not happy.
    So, how do I make this stuff work?

  • I received a psd file created in CS6 for MAC, I am unable to find the layers when I open it in photoshop in Windows. What can i do to edit the files?

    I received a psd file created in CS6 for MAC, I am unable to find the layers when I open it in photoshop in Windows. What can i do to edit the files? What can be done so that I can either open and see the layers or how can the sender save it in a way that it doesn't "merge" the layers in some way to just one?

    Could try saving as tiff provided layers and transparency are chosen at the time of saving. But it's hard to give a definitive answer as it depends on the final usage. For example PSD's tend to work better in applications like In Design in comparison with tiff.

  • How to edit a file

    Ok I probably realise that I've missed something in the literature on installing arch somewhere along the way, but I've spent the last 3 hours trying to find how get past this stage to no avail.
    I've managed to realise I have a dhcp connection.
    For DHCP IP
    For this option, you need the dhcpcd package (already available on most installations). To make use of it, edit /etc/rc.conf like this:
    eth0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(eth0)
    ROUTES=(!gateway)
    but when i type "edit /etc/rc.conf" I get a colon
    I presume I'm in some kind of editor, but I can't see what I'm supposed to change and what commands to use inside the editor.
    Any help gratefully received

    bzzzz Arch is for competent Linux users - not knowing how to edit a file suggests that you do not fall into this category. If you wish to persevere and use Arch as a learning tool, then you need to be aware that you will be required to do most of the work yourself.

  • Photoshop Elements won't create a file, edit a file or save a file...

    Hello all,
    I just bought an Epson 600 scanner which came with a copy of Photoshop Elements (v7, but that's another question for another day).  Was working fine for awhile (a few weeks) but now I'm unable to edit any files.  This is on an Intel Mac Pro running Windows 7 (natively, not in VMWare) with 8 cores and 8 GB of RAM and terabytes of free disk space.
    Here's a sample sequence of events:
    1) Launch PE
         - Get selection screen for organize, Edit, Create, Share.
    2) Select Edit
         - Launches editing workspace normally
    3) Click File->Open
         - Get the file browser window with thumbnails (standard windows stuff)
    4) Click a TIF file (or a JPG file) and click Open
         - File browser window closes and I'm taken back to the editing view but there's no picture.  No sign that it did anything (all the menus that are greyed out when the editing screen is empty are still grey etc - including the File Save menu option)
    5) Try to drag a file into the editing workbench from windows explorer (either a TIF file or a JPG)
         - Same behavior - switches back to the workbench, but everything is still greyed out and the file isn't there.
    6) Try to create a new file
    7) Click File->New
         - New file dialog pops up asking me to name and size it
    8) Give it a random name and leave it at the default 6x4x300dpi and click OK
         - New file dialog goes away and returns me to the editing canvas, but it's still blank and all the menus remain greyed out
    I get the exact same behavior if I try "Open As" or "Open recently edited files" etc
    I AM running Symantec anti-virus and I've noticed some people mentioning that that can cause issues for Adobe, but turning it off really isn't an option.  So if there's some rule I need to set up to allow some background process to talk, that's fine but I can't just disable it to use PE.
    Is there any debugging log kept somewhere?  (I suppose I could check this site more thoroughly for that info)
    Any help or suggestions would be most welcome!
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Try resetting the PSE preferences by
       1. Close Elements.
       2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Edit.
       3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
    try and let me know your comments.

  • Unable to edit XLSM files in SharePoint using hyperlink?

    Hi All,
    Unable to edit .xlsm files using hyperlink, please guide me.
    Thanks
    Ramanjulu Naidu N

    Hi Ramanjulu,
    Did this happen to all users?
    Did the "Read Only/Edit" dialog pop up when you click the .xlsm Name link from SharePoint 2010?
    Could you see the yellow message bar with "Edit Workbook" button when you open the .xlsm file in your Excel Application?
    You can check if the following kb article could solve yellow message bar missing problem, set "Browser File Handling" as Permissive for your web application, or update the registry for client Office application.
    Also check if the add-on "SharePoint OpenDocuments Class" is enabled in your IE 32-bit browser.

  • Unable to edit PDF files in Adobe Acrobat DC

    i am unable to edit a file in adobe acrobat dc i have tried with multiple files and everytime i click edit pdf it get a pop up that says adobe acrobat dc has encountered an unknown error however i have been able to edit a few pdf's i tried everything from re downloading a new file to saving it in acrobat reader and nothing is working please help

    Hi imadb,
    Since you have the Acrobat Pro DC 30-day trial, please try opening that to edit your PDFs (rather than opening them in Reader, and clicking the Edit PDF button).
    If you search your computer, you should have both an Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and and Adobe Acrobat Pro application. They can coexist, but it does make things a little confusing.
    If you want to evaluate  Acrobat Pro DC, it's best that you open it directly. That way, you can get the real "lay of the land" with Acrobat before making any purchase decisions.
    Best,
    Sara

    If you have Acrobat Pro Extended that is a PC Product. You've clicked on wrong Forum. Go back to main page the click on Acrobat and choose PC forum. Extend has such features as XML based PDF Forms which Acrobat Pro Mac can't handle.
