Edited photos appear as oldest in library

I noticed that in the past week or two, when I edit a photo with a plug in (such as Topaz Clarity), the original and copies move from the original location with others taken at the time to the end of the library as if they were the oldest photo taken.  This is a pain when you are looking for photos after they are edited.  I can find them using metadata information, but I would appreciate being able to see them with the others from the same photo shoot.

It is set for sorting by capture time.  Due to use by different cameras, sorting by file name isn't really applicable.  Sorting by added order brings it back closer to where it was, but if I work on older photos, they are moved to the top of the library.

After editing a RAW photo in PE13 (my External Editor) originally sent from Apple's iPhoto, I can not reimport the edited photo back into my iPhoto library. The
"Import to Library" command is greyed out. This was not the case until the latest PE13 update (Camera Raw Version 8.7.1.311). What needs to be done
to reimport edited photos back into my iPhoto library? Ideas?

Launch PSE Expert Mode and go to:
Photoshop Elements Editor >> Preferences >> Saving Files (tab)
    Set the drop-down dialog
On First Save : Save Over Current File
    Click OK.
When you have finished editing in PSE use Cmd+S to save (not Save As)

For some reason, when I go to the iCloud website, there are duplicates of edited photos. Also some dates are wrong when imported from the Mac.

Change the password for your iCloud account. If you have not already done so, turn on two step authentication.

  • How can I make the edited photo appear in my folder?

Hi! This is my first post here, and I've just acquired Lightroom after having worked with ACDSee Pro (currently v6) for some years. I love taking photos and editing them later if necessary.
I understand that LR works differently to ACDSee, with the catalogue and all, and I've successfully imported my picture folders into my new LR catalogue. What I haven't yet been able to grasp is what LR does with my edited photos. When I edit (develop) a picture in ACDSee, the edited version of that photo appears in my original folder as soon as I have finished editing it.
With LR, after having done my processing all I can see in my folder is the original, unedited picture. The edits are only visible in LR, but not anywhere else. I'd like to see the edited photo in my folder so that I can use it, for example, for screen saver slide shows. I don't want to go and look for this edited picture in any place other than its original folder, and neither do I want to have two copies of it, namely the original and the edited version, in that folder. All I care for at this point is the edited version since the original can be restored at any time from within LR, or at least I think this how it should be since that's how I did it with ACDSee if I wanted to go back to the original picture.
Is there any way I can achieve what I'm looking for with LR?
Thank you very much for your assistance for a total LR beginner.

and neither do I want to have two copies of it, namely the original and the edited version, in that folder
I don't think this is possible, given the normal way Lightroom works. You have the original (the image contained in this file is never modified by Lightroom) and you will have the export.
Note: you could instruct Lightroom to overwrite your original (if it was a JPG or TIF or PSD, but not a RAW), however this is extremely discouraged and your original would be gone. Your assumption "since the original can be restored at any time from within LR" is incorrect, that is not how Lightroom works if you overwrite the original JPG TIF or PSD (which of course is just one of several reasons why this approach is extremely discouraged).

  • Library and Develop Module Photos Appear Different

I am using Lightroom 4.4   Dell Ultrasharp monitor is calibrated.  I own and have been referring to Scott Kelby's Lightroom4 book for digital photographers.  I recently took some photos of my daughters prom.  She had on a beautiful reddish orange dress.  I notice that the dress appears very red in the develop module, however, appears a bit more orange in the library module.  The change is very noticeable between the modules.  The dress also appears similar to the library module view (a bit more orange) when viewed on the web via Flickr utilizing Chrome, Firefox, or IPad.  It also appears the same when exported to a JPEG file.
I have done some experimenting and have determined that this color change effect appears to be very noticeable utilizing the Adobe Standard Camera Calibration Profile.  It does not happen (at least to a noticeable extent) with the others such as Camera Standard where the dress appears a bit more orange in both the library and develop module.  I do, however, like the appearance of the Adobe Standard profile better and this happens to be the default profile as well.
I have also noticed that the dress looks more orange when Soft Proofing is enabled.  The change happens immediately when the check box is enabled.  Checking the box makes the photo appear similar to the Library module view.  Enabling Soft Proofing does make noticeable that there is Destination Gamut Warning which mainly involves the dress which is the point of interest, however, there is no warning with the Monitor Gamut Warning.  I am intending to place the photos on the web at this time via Flickr.  I will be printing several later so will be worrying about the printer gamut at that time.  But for now, I would like to get the photos on the web looking as intended.
Having the photos look so different in the Library and Develop Modules is very frustrating.  I am hoping that there is a simple setting or fix for this problem that I am experiencing.  Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Hi Victoria. Thanks for your reply. Re the saturation of the yellows, an example of a photo which shows the behaviour is that of a sunflower shot in direct sunlight. So a typical bright yellow. The raw files are from a D7000, so I have several "camera" profiles to choose from in LR4, in addition to the default Adobe Standard. None of the camera profiles show a difference between Library & Develop. Also, the Adobe Standard profile only shows the described behaviour when yellows are present. I can find plenty of examples where the photos are identical between the two modules when there are no yellows in the shot. I doubt this is a monitor profiling problem, given that it affects just the Adobe Standard profile, however I will try re-profiling. My U2412M display is not wide gamut. I posted here because the issue I am seeing sounds very similar to the original poster's. We're both using Dell Ultrasharp displays, although that could be a coincidence. I'll see if I can get some screen grabs from my Mac and upload here later today. I'm on my Windows 7 laptop at the moment.

    Update:
I have a pair of screen grab JPEGs from the Mac which I'm happy to share, however the upload here in the forum is limited in size. Any suggestions how I can best share the full size JPEGs?
Re-profiling hasn't changed anything. I'm pretty sure my profile is good. Ambient natural lighting, monitor warmed up, etc. Native white point used as always. The difference between profiled and unprofiled is very subtle. The U2412M appears to be pretty accurate at factory settings.
If I turn soft proofing on in Develop I see the less saturated image which matches Library. Turning it off again and the differences return.
LR4 on my Windows 7 laptop doesn't have the same problem. The screen on that is calibrated with the same Spyder3, however the laptop's screen is of a mediocre quality compared to the U2412M.
Found another thread where the poster is having the same problems with yellows, this time in LR5.

  • I never had this problem before but all of a sudden when I go to "edit" a photo the photo turns black.  All the editing functions appear but I cannot see any picture.  When I hit "done" the photo reappears. Why can I no longer see my photo for editing pu

For years I have had no problems editing photos.  However, for some reason when I go to "edit" my photo the photo turns BLACK/BLANK.  The editing functions appear but I cannot see the photo.  When I select "done" the photo reappears.  Why is the photo disappearing for editing?  Have I hit a command accidentally that is causing this?  Really appreciate someone's assistance.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run  Option #1, Repair Permissions, followed by Option #4, Rebuild Database, if needed.

  • Can I edit photos on my iMac Photo Library from my MacAir?

Hi! I have an iMac and a MacAir.  I have shared my library, but can not edit photos. I then shared the whole computer to the laptop and no good. It says it is locked, on a locked drive, or I don't have permission to edit it.  I originally had two photo libraries, one on each, then I took the smaller library and uploaded it to the iMac. I have a Time Capsule, but use it only to back up the iMac (why? because I am not too skilled with this Mac stuff).   In the end, I want to be able to sit on my sofa and edit photos at night from a laptop. Help Please!
More info - I have access to both computers, though I have the App Store hooked up to two different IDs (mine and my husbands), does that matter? If I buy Appeture I would need to buy it on both the iMac and the MacAir in this case? Any help is good!

If you use Screen Sharing you can run iPhoto on the iMac's library from your Mac Air just as if you were on the iMac itself.  Even dropouts wouldn't hurt as they would only show up a momentary curser lapses because everything was being performed on the iMac.
However, I am able to do everything but edit photos even though I'm logged in as the admin user for the Mac.  Give it a try and see if you can make it work.  Here's what I have setup under sharing:

  • I had to erase my hard drive and then reinstall everything back from my passport external hard drive. Now my iPhoto edit is not working. I get a blank screen when I want to edit. The photos show up in the library but I cannot edit them. Help?

I had to erase my hard drive and then reinstall everything back from my passport external hard drive. Now my iPhoto edit is not working. I get a blank screen when I want to edit. The photos show up in the library but I cannot edit them. Help?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
*1. Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
*2. Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
*3. A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
*4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
*5. A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • HT201412 My iPod Touch 4th Gen keeps shutting off (like it's dying) and turns white and looks frozen...then an apple logo appears and takes a while to come back on. This only happens when I try to edit photos (cropping, especially)? Help me pleaseee!

When this happened the first time, I seriously thought it wouldn't come back on. I was trying to crop something out of the of a photo and it shut off like it was dying (it was fully charged) and then froze, turned white, then an apple logo appeared. Once it turned on i went back to do what i was doing and it did it again. The next time it turned on, I went to play Design this Home, and it didnt shut off..so my only reasoning is that this happens when i edit a photo...i haven't done anything abnormal with my iPod and don't understand why this is happening...please please help!

That is a known bug in iOS 5.1.1. The iPod "crashes" when editing photos. Just do not edit photos and wait for the next update. Most users have said it crashes when editing screen shots.

  • While editing photos iPhoto shut down.  The unexpected shut down message appeared and I pressed re-open.  When it reopened I had lost my most recent import as well as imports from the past 2 weeks.  When I try to re-import it says that they already exist

After an import of about 20 black & white photos to iPhoto I was editing one when iPhoto shut down.  The "unexpected shut down" message was displayed.  I clicked reopen, which it did.  However, my last import was completely missing.  Not only that, everything I had imported, adjusted and filed for the past 2 weeks was also missing.  It has still saved all of the albums I created but all show "no photos".
When I try to re-import from my back-up, iPhoto says "can't import, photo is already in the library".
    Can anyone help?

    What version of iPhoto?
    Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I sent photos out of my IPhoto library, but they do not appear in my "Sent" folder on my GMail although that mail account was in the "From" field?

If you're using iPhoto as your email client a sent version is not created.  You need to BCC yourself in order to get a copy.
The better solution is to use Mail as your email client in conjunction with Gmail.  This will give you a sent copy, better access to your contacts and, if so desired, photo templates to use via Mail's stationary feature.

I successfully synched photos from my mac book iphoto to my new iphone 5 (icloud did not do the job).  Now these photos appear on my phone in three places--iphoto app, last import, and photo library.  Does that mean that they take up three times the memory?  Will that affect iCloud?  Sorry for the end-user questions!!

HHi, thank you for the reply. I have checked my iPad and iPhone and neither has iCloud Photo Library (Beta) enabled. Turned off in both. Photostream is turned on.
i tried to sort it out  by dragging all the photos to Events on the Mac and then deleting them from iCloud - (left hand side of iPhoto under the section 'Shared'). the photos now show up in Events. I did force quit but the issue remains. The message reads ' photos are bing imported to the library. Please wait for import to complete.'
i can't empty iPhoto trash either. The message read "Delete error. Please wait for import to complete.'
WHen I was moving the photos to the Events I always had a message about duplicates - to the effect that the photos already existed, did I want to import them? I clicked on Yes, import all duplicates. But when it showed the images - duplicates side by side - one showed the photo and the other was blank.
I really don't know what to do! And I don't know how to handle my iOS devices. Is it to do with the large number of photos? Any help, advice appreciated.

  • Edited photos not appearing in the right collection

Managing collections in Lightroom 5.7, Camera Raw 8.7 (recently upgraded). Edit in "Photoshop CC 2014". I save the edited photo but it doesn't appear in the correct collection in LR. I can find it if I search among "All photographs" in Lightroom.
How do I understand in which collection it has been placed? And why is it no longer the same collection of the original pic? Thank you.

You are the second person to report something like this with Lightroom 5.7 Creative Cloud.
Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.
