Edited photos not backed up

Photos edited in iPhoto are not restored. I tested.
I have more than 2000 photos edited in iPhoto and if something happens I can restore all photos but then I need to do the work of editing all over again. And even the rates and flaggs , everything besides the original photo is not backed up.
Am I missing something ?

Pedro,
Consider these questions:
When was the photo originally added to iPhoto? (Date #1)
+Backups take place.+
When was the photo edited in iPhoto? (Date #2)
+Backups take place.+
Now you need to go back and recover the photo in Time Machine. (Date #3)
Do you see how choosing the correct date from which to restore the photo from Time machine makes a difference as to what copy you eventually end up with?
If you restore from a backup BEFORE Date #2, you'll get an original copy of the photo.
But if you restore from a backup AFTER Date #2, you should get an edited copy of the photo.
Does that make sense?
Cheers!

  • Edited photos not showing up later

When I edit photos and then go back to them they don't open. I can see the thumbnail, but if I click on it the image is just black. I know how to get the original photos back but I'd like to be able to edit photos still. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!
    Also: I have iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
*1. Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
*2. Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
*3. A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
*4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
*5. A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Edited photos not appearing in the right collection

Managing collections in Lightroom 5.7, Camera Raw 8.7 (recently upgraded). Edit in "Photoshop CC 2014". I save the edited photo but it doesn't appear in the correct collection in LR. I can find it if I search among "All photographs" in Lightroom.
How do I understand in which collection it has been placed? And why is it no longer the same collection of the original pic? Thank you.

You are the second person to report something like this with Lightroom 5.7 Creative Cloud.
Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

  • Edited photos not showing up in lightroom

I am using lightroom 3 and photoshop CS5.
I recently had to reinstall the programs after a hard drive failure. Prior to the reinstall, photos that I had worked on in photoshop automatically showed up in the LR3 library. I updated to the latest version of LR when I reinstalled. Now when I save I can not find the new photos anywhere in the library. I have had problems with JPEG and DNG. I save to TIFF. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Check the following settings:
In the Library Module go to >View >Sort and make sure that <Capture Time> is unchecked and <File name> is checked.
When <Capture Time> is checked the edited photo will be at the very end of the film strip not next to the RAW-file because LR takes the time when you save a file in PS as Capture Time.
When <File Name> is checked the edited TIFF should be right next to the Raw image - provided that in PS you have not done a <Save As> and given your photo a new name.

  • IPhone 6 photos not backing up to iCloud

My iPhone 6 photos are no longer backing up to my Photo Stream folder in iCloud. I have all the settings on my phone set correctly:
iCloud photo library (beta) is on so photos are automatically stored in iCloud.
Upload to my Photo Stream is on so new photos are automatically uploaded to iCloud
On my computer (windows 7), all iCloud settings are correct as well. Photos is checked off so photos back up.
Weird thing is, my shared folders are backing up.... It's just my My Photo Stream folder that is not backing up...
    What to do?

    Hello Lana Alana,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you are using the iCloud Photo Library beta, then your items are automatically being stored and uploaded to iCloud.  Take a look at the information outlined below to learn more.
Can I use iCloud Photo Library to back up my Photo Library instead of iCloud Backup or iTunes?
Yes. If you turn on iCloud Photo Library, it will automatically upload and store all of your photos and videos from any of your devices that are using iCloud Photo Library. iCloud Photo Library won't be part of the iCloud Backup, because it's already storing all your photos and videos in iCloud.

  • Edited photos not saving correctly

Sorry about the name. I am new to this program and I tried to join for an hour without success then my hubby took over!!! Now to my serious headache causing problem. After editing photos I saved them to my folder exactly as Adobe Help suggests, in Jpeg format. I can see them in my folder but the icon is blank and Properties suggest they are File format and not Jpeg. What am I doing wrong and how can I correct it...please?

      Can you try an experiment.
    1. Open Full Edit by clicking the edit button on the welcome screen.
    2. On the menu click File à Open
    3. Then open one of your images that has not been edited previously
    4. Make a quick edit e.g. on the menu click Enhance à Auto Levels
    5. Then on the menu click File à Save As
    6. In the save as dialog click the dropdown for Format
    7. Choose jpeg from the list and save.
Let us know if that is working OK.

  • Edited photos not showing in full screen

I have edited some photos (crop and/or colour adustments). Although the thumbnail is still visible, it will not load in full screen mode - I'll only see a gree square with an explanation mark.
Even more annoying, a photo book I'd ordered came with grey spaces: again the thumbnail appeared allright, but if I click to view the page I get this screen picture holder. I'll have to ask for a reimbursement, but in the mean time, I'd like to know what to do.
    thanks in advance

I'm having some trouble posting. Sorry for my last post with only original message showing and my comments missing.
I am having trouble with full screen also but not quite the same. I cannot get a previosly edited photo to show full size on the full screen. It only transfers in the same small size as it is in the Library source screen even though I clk on the preference for "edit in full screen." Any idea what is wrong?

  • Photos in i-Photo not backing up in Time Machine

Most photos has backed up on an external drive. But, no photos since 1/09 have backed up. Any ideas on why and how to fix this?

You kind of need a working machine to be able to see what you have first !
Wuithout a Mac its going to be difficult to access the files. Best come back to us when the logic board is replaced and this may have been the source of the problem. have a look at these forums as there are issues with new logic boards and old backup files. Not insurmountable ones but a few isues you will need to consider.

  • PSE5: edited photos not displaying in organizer

from organizer, i choose "go to quick fix" for a particular photo (or set of photos). I complete the auto smart fix. upon closing, i choose yes to save the photo. under save options: i have checked "include in organizer" and "save in version set with original". however, the edited version does not display in the organizer. i seem to remember this problem a couple of years ago not long after i bought this. i gave up trying to fix it and then the problem just disappeared until now. i do see the edited files beside the original ones in the original windows file folders. i need this fixed quickly. i checked for updates and there are none. thanks for helping.

in the Organizer workspace, do a
    File > Catalog > Recover
command. That fixes this problem for many people. However, it does not fix the edits done previously.
If you have Watched Folders active and do not need that function turn it off - look under the File menu. Having Watched Folder active seems to decrease the probability that the problem will occur.
For the past edits potentailly you can
-- make Stacks instead of Version Sets for the previous failed edits.
-- Or you can manually mkae a version set by doing some renames and a dummy edit for each of the edits that failed to make the version set.
Post back if fixing the previous edits is important and you want more details.

  • Edited photo changes back to original when exported

I did some editing on a photo using the iPhoto editor - changed it from color to B&W and did some other tweaking. Saved the photo with the changes and exported it. The exported picture is the original color photo. Tried exporting it right to Flickr using the link in iPhoto and the photo came out in color. Quit iPhoto and restarted it. The photo in the library is in B&W, but when exported changes back to color.
Unfortunately I don't have Photoshop on my laptop.........so I can't do any changes there.
    GRRRRRRR.............

Sounds like your database is damaged.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards

  • Edited photos not appearing in Organizer

Found what appears to be another problem in PSE8.  Roughly 30-40% of the time, photos edited from the Organizer do not appear in the Organizer after saving.  Select a photo in the Organizer, Select Quick Edit from the Orange Edit tab at top right, make edits, Save As with save in version set and include in organizer checked, close the photo.  Photo saves to folder location correctly with "_edited-1" appended to file name.  Photo frequently does not appear in the organizer in a Stack with the original like it is supposed to.  Manually dragging the photo into the organizer from the folder adds it to the Catalog, proving it was not added like it was supposed to be.  In one case, after dragging the photo into the organizer and selecting both photos to create a Stack, the Stack option was not availalbe in the right click menu (or in any menus).  Had to shutdown and restart PSE8 to be able to Stack the photos.  These were large JPG photos made with Canon 7D.  If somebody knows a workaround or possible cause, let me know.  Otherwise this is another one for a PSE8 update to resolve.

There is a limit to the file size the Organizer will handle.  Here is aTechNote dealing with PSE 5/6.  I don't know if it also applies to PSE 8:

  • MacBook got smashed.  Took hard drive to Apple Store, guy tried to extract photos, said drive was bent.  Any suggestions as to where to take a damaged drive to get out photos?  Upset bcuz it's a year of our baby's photos, not backed up anywhere!!!!

My Macbook got smashed.  We took the hard drive out and to an Apple store where a guy tried to extract the info we wanted.  He said he couldn't because it was a bit damaged and the only other option we had was to send it back to the company to see if they could get the info out.  I am very upset because it has a year's worth of baby photos that I hadn't backed up yet.  Any suggestions as to what to do?

If the drive physically works, you can do this yourself:
USB SATA/IDE adapter (connects internal drive to a computer)
    http://www.amazon.com/USB-2-0-SATA-5-25-Adapter/dp/B000J2GUS0
    and/or
DataRescue (run from a Mac) Reads the 1's and 0's of files themselves, even if the disk is reformatted.

A Mac's boot drive is formatted HFS+ Journaled. To be read by a Windows PC needs MacDrive installed on the PC.
    http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive
The above methods are available locally by your neighborhood computer specialist.
Or if the drive doesn't work at all, you need to send it out.
