Edited Project Footage Disappears

This problem developed after hours of completing several movies successfully in iMovie 5.0.2. I save the movie as I want it, close iMovie, open the file again, and all of the clips that were once in the timeline all trimmed to my liking and filled with transitions and titles are now missing with the original uncut footage in the trash can leaving behind only the transitions and titles. No plain footage in the timeline. Just effects. Where did my edited project files go?
Another thing- If the first thing I do when opening the program is hit "Play" in the viewer, the movie (with edited files and transitions as I edited them) will play, even though they're not in the timeline or even in the trash. But when I click on the timeline and then "Play," only the transitions and titles that remain in the timeline play in the viewer. I'm very confused. Can someone help?
*Also, it must be noted that this wasn't the situation the whole time. At one point when I first started, I could save and open projects in their entirety with everything where it's supposed to be. Then all of a sudden, this problem started occurring, and only with certain files. Not all of them.

Hello I wonder if anyone would be able to help.
I have a JVC GY-HM100. I have footage from a ongoing project saved on SDHC cards. I want to save money by reusing the cards while i carry on working on the same project. I wondered if I could save the footage from the SDHC card too a hard drive ; delete the footage from the cards and reuse them. would i still be able to edit the footage stored on the hard drive alongside the footage which will be imported straight from the camera.. I have heard that this camera works well with final cut pro but if the info is saved to a hard drive first and subsequent footage is straight from the camra and SDHC cards will it work or is it a false economy to reuse the cards.

How do you re-locate an I-movie project that disappears from the project / edit library in i-movie11?

As a school teacher, I viewed the student's movie project in edit mode and I known it was there. The student was attempting to burn the project to a disc to back it up and it disappeared. The raw video clips are still sitting there but the edited project is no longer visible. I've searched the computer but can't find it anywhere. I think the student renamed the project as they were preparing yo back it up. Any advice on how to locate the project would be appreciated.

iMovie will only see projects that are in the Home/Movies/iMovie Projects folder (or in the iMovie Projects folder at the top level of an external drive).
Your student may have moved the project somewhere else. If so, the solution is to move it back, and then restart iMovie.
The project will have a file extension of .rcproject.
If you do not know where he might have moved the project, try doing a Spotlight Search on rcproject, and they should all come up. (Spotlight is in the top right corner of your screen).

Edited iMovie Project has disappeared

I spent hours editing an iMovie project last night and now the project is no where to be found.
The project file is on one of the hard drives of my Mac Pro but the event is on an external hard drive (ejected properly after iMovie was closed properly).
Since I don't remember the name of the iMovie project, it could still be there in its original form before any of my edits because what I did was drop the footage into a project, edit partially and duplicate it before continuing. 2 duplicates of only the pre-duplication project appear.
Where the heck did my edited project go? Surely it was saved SOMEwhere because I undid and redid things along the way. It does not show up in a search for iMovie projects that I sort to list by date opened.
What happened? and how can I avoid this from ever happening again?
I would have had my completed project last night and none of this would matter if iMovie would have allowed me to share it last night, but instead when I tried, an error message appears claiming I needed more memory available to create the project. I had 4gb of available memory at the time (this glitch is listed in a seperate discussion thread. i am asking where my project went in this one).

If you have moved your iMovie project files out of the Movies/iMovie Projects folder, iMovie will not see them.
Similarly, if you have moved your iMovie Event folders out of the Movies/iMovie Events/ folder, iMovie will not see them. The solution is to move them back where they were. (And then restart iMovie)
If you want to move projects and events to an external drive to save space on your mac, you need to do it within iMovie. The instructions are as follows....

For the Frame Rate, was it really 29.97 frames per second and you rounded it off to 29 frames per second? Or,
is the frame rate really 29 frames per second?
If the properties that you just posted are representative of your source file, what project preset did you or the
project set for the project preset? If you are not sure, please tell us the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size,
and Pixel Aspect Ratio under Edit Menu/Project Settings/General.
Still having problems - haven't been able to edit project.

Imovie 3.0.3 edit buttons have disappeared, how do I get them back?

I am trying frantically to finish a project for work and when I opened imovie this afternoon after working with it all morning, my edit buttons have disappeared. I can view the movie but have no way to add clips, audio, etc. without the buttons. This happened once before, right after I updated my OS to Tiger 10.4.9. When I spoke with AppleCare, I believe they had me rebuild my preferences folder. It been awhile and I did not write the steps down. Can anyone help me with this?

I am interested in editing GoPro footage using Adobe Photoshop Premiere any have experience with that.

My GoPro workflow currently is:
- record with GoPro in Protune
- import GoPro MP4 into Premiere and edit
- convert GoPro MP4 to AVI using GoPro Studio (leaving same file name stored in sub-folder)
- 'offline' GoPro Premiere MP4 footage and 'relink' to AVI
- export media out of Premiere
Be careful with AVI files in Premiere as they crash my 2014.2 release 8.2.0(65) build. Solution I see to have AVI not crash Premiere is to turn off GPU Acceleration and use Software only.
After I re-link AVI files in Premiere, I leave my GPU Acceleration on and render out. I do not play the AVI with Premiere to avoid crashing. When I am re-linking the MP4 to the AVI, I am saving the project frequently due to Premiere crashing. I am exporting GoPro AVIs fine with GPU Acceleration on.
Premiere handles GoPro MP4 files fine. I could not tell you anything about Photoshop video editing if that is what you are asking.

Editing 24p footage - FCP or Vegas?

I'm planning on using a dvx100b to shoot a project in 24p (or 24pa). For editing, I quite naturally was going to use FCP (29.97 & 23.976 timelines respectively), since I already own the software. When I mentioned this to an acquaintance who is an experienced Vegas editor who also did a little work on FCP, he was adamant that Vegas is vastly superior to FCP for 24p editing. Not having ever edited 24p(a) footage, I was taken aback, and lacking in information to confidently express any opinion. Im not clear on why it would make a difference... what's going to be different editing such footage on FCP from just regular non-24p footage?
Also, I don't want to spend the money on Vegas, or the time to learn the software, not to mention having to upgrade my windows gear (I only have a 3 year old Dell Inspiron 1100 w/ XP). Bottom line, I really don't want to do this, unless there are very compelling reasons.
Is anyone here familiar with both Vegas and FCP who can shed light on the issue? TIA.

Mench, that is quite helpful, as I'd rather stick with FCP since I already am a bit familiar with it (not 24p editing though), instead of learning another software like Vegas from scratch. I hear you wrt. Vegas... my purpose was not to diss Vegas, but rather I was worried that FCP had some kind of issues when it comes to dealing with 24a(p) footage and Vegas did not. If it's just that Vegas workflow is "better" in being slightly more intuitive or economical or ergonomic, I don't care. If FCP can do the job without hiccups (even if less "iintuitively" than Vegas), then I'd rather stick with FCP.

Can you afford a new Thunderbolt case and cable? any case with FW800 is going to be slow 72MB/sec and less, and any new 1TB drive is capable of 75MB/s minimum up to 125MB/sec.
Thunderbolt storage can of course when setup properly reach 100's of MB higher using multiple drives.
Use what you have for a system backup or for secondary backup storage.

Prosumer looking for the right desktop to edit hd footage...

Hi Everybody,
I have a question for all of you, but before I ask the question I have searched high and low for an answer to my question and although I've found people in similar situations, I need to find an answer for my specific needs. Okay here it goes, I have an had camera Sony Sr11 and I want to edit the footage, somewhat flawlessly, I want it to run as smooth as possible b/cuz my current laptop (dell 1520 2.4 Ghz, 4GB Ram, non-dedicated graphics) isn't cutting it. I'm not a film student or anything I just like to make movies it's a hobby and I do it for family and friends that sort of thing. I intend on using final cut express to get that particular job done, I also have thousands of photos..and I don't plan on putting them on the hard drive of my computer, they're kept in an external hard drive. I like to edit those as well I wanted to use aperture for that. So the two main programs I want to use are final cut express hd and aperture...now for the third thing...I do a little gaming and I mean a little..I play sims 2 and I want to eventually play sims 3...so I want a computer that can run those games at the highest settings...compared to other games I don't think that's asking much but I don't want medium settings I want high settings...
So those are my main concerns...running final cut express, aperture, sims 2 and eventually sims 3...should I get the new Imac 24" 3.06 Ghz or should I bite the bullet save a little longer and get the mac pro with an external screen maybe hp or dell...oh and one more question do you have to be a "computer major" to get the adc discount b/cuz I'm a pharmacy student???

the discount is available to any one who's a registered student w/ a valid ID- check w/ your school bookstore, take your ID to an Apple Store or check out the Education Store here on apple.com for the requirements. the current iMacs are so new, there may not be anyone who has used it for gaming.... but you might want to check MacWorld in a few days to see if they have new Benchmark tests or Reviews that may help you decide about gaming or just keep the Dell for gaming. to edit the HDD, AVCHD, any not tape-based video over Firewire, you will need an Intel Mac & i suggest you get as much RAM as you can afford, try Crucial or OWC to get it for way less than Apple.

DVD authoring after editing project with FCP X

FCP X has extremely limited DVD authoring options within it. Can't put more than one short movie on a disc, only two menu templates to choose from, etc. So my question is what do I use to author a DVD after editing projects with FCP X? I know I need to use Compressor to set chapter points, etc., but what do I use to build the DVD menu and burn the DVD? I certainly hope I am not limited to iDVD only, which is not really a pro application, and I gather that DVD Studio Pro is no longer being sold. Amazingly, I asked this question at a One-to-One session at an Apple Store and the guy there suggested Adobe Encore ... I was totally shocked! Does anyone have an answer to all this?

Encore is very good, but you have to buy PPro to get it, you could look on eBay for a copy of DVDSP. It does look like Apple will not be offering a Pro Level DVD authoring package anymore, it's a shame as DVDSP works very well still and they could have just offered it as a standalone.

Urgent Help -- Project Explorer Disappear

Hi All,
The Project Explorer Disappear in Data Center disappeared. Now we can only see Connection Explorer and Transfomation Explorer window. There is no where to set it back even after restart the OWB data center.

i.e I created an enterprise project in project server and then edit it with project professional. after i published it to the server and open it with project server, it shows the changes. but when i click on a cell, suddenly the task list and gantt table
hidden!!
it happens even if I start a project with project professional.

CU means cumulative updates, which are intermediate bug fix packages between SP. The latest CU for Project 2013 was release on September 12th. See reference

IMovie 10.0.2 The iMovie unexpectedly quit and after restarting it projects were disappeared

iMovie 10.0.2 unexpectedly quit and after restarting it 2 (out of 3) projects were disappeared. However I can see "All Projects - 1 of 3selected". I am quite disapointed!!!

No, I did not.
Meanwhile I have found the reason for the projects disappear in my libraries! The problem is caused by using the dash "#" symbol in my project names.
I have created another project with a dash in the name and the project also disappeared in iMovie with the same effect that the underlying data was still in die library.
Apple should release a warning that some special characters are not allowed to be used in project names or better should solve this.
