Editing a PDF with Illustrator

Hey guys!
Im really new to editing and Adobe work. I had a graphic deisnger make me a flyer design and there is a specific part i want to delete and add new things to.
My question is, How do add a PDF file to Adobe Illustrator to edit it in a way where the original file isnt affected and I can still export it as a PDF?
Please help guys
Thankyou

Illustrator is NOT a general PDF editor. Some PDFs are good, some will be damaged in obvious ways, others subtle ways you will find much later.
Important exception, if
- you are SURE the file was made in Illustrator
- you are SURE it wasn't processed after that
- you are SURE you have the same release
- you are SURE the creator did use the option to save the original AI file inside the PDF
then you can edit and be working on the original.
Editing PDF files is a desperate last resort for when the original is lost, cannot be purchased for any amount of money, and the backups were eaten by termites.
When having work done, be sure you are contracted to get an editable file, not just a PDF. This may cost more, many designers consider this is not part of what the basic cost covers.

If it is a form, then there should be fillable fields that change to an I-bar as you move the hand over the field. If the hand does not change, then it is not technically a form -- only looks like one. You can use the form tool in AA5 to add fields to complete, use the typewriter tool (or it is some other name in AA5), or select the text touch up tool and hold down the ctrl key as you place the cursor to create a new text box.

  • Create a PDF. with Illustrator that Adobe Reader Can Edit

How do I export a file to .PDF with a single line of text that can be edited with Adobe Reader. I'm Creating a sign template and the their is a spot for the price that needs to be changed every week with Adobe Reader. Is this possible

As Larry said, a simple form field would work. Just be aware, that there is no way to control the formatting inside the field. They really only can type in their price and have to live with any discrepancies compared to the rest of the text.

  • Editing a pdf in illustrator makes thin lines to appear wider.

    Good Evening,
When I print a pdf from AutoCAD with some lines set to 0,05mm lineweigh, open and edit the pdf file in Illustrator without touchind those lines and then save again to pdf the line weight increase. Here are a couple of examples.
    How can I solve this?
Edit: The align to pixel grid is disabled in the transform panel.

    Hi Jacob,
Problem is that the stroke weight is set correctly, and in the printed document it's ok, it is still annoying that on screen the stroke seems so different.
    Thank you.

  • Open PDF with Illustrator

    Tags (edit): none (add)
I have PDF files created in Illustrator; saved as .pdf that until recently I could right click the PDF icon giving me an option "Open With...Illustrator" which would then open the file in Illustrator CS4 and allow me to edit the PDFs.
Now when I right click to open with, Illustrator opens to Welcome Window as if I had just opened the program with the Illustrator icon but does not actually open the PDF.
From within Illustrator I can use the open process to go to the file location and open with no issue.
Something that tells Illustrator to open that file seems to have been lost.

    Here's How:
In Windows Explorer, navigate to a file of the type you want to associate (GIF, JPEG, etc.).
Click on its icon once to select it.
While holding the shift key down, right click on the icon. (Note: Holding the Shift key down is not necessary in Windows 2000 and Windows XP.)
In the pop-up menu, choose Open With... A box will open asking you to choose a program to open that file type. If you have a lot of software installed it could take a few moments for this box to appear.
Pick a program from the list.
If the program you need isn't in the list, choose [other] to navigate to another EXE file on your hard drive.

  • Editing a PDF with Acrobat

My company has quite a few PDF's that they use as standards for legal agreements and such and we are going through a name change within the company.  They are having me edit and change all of our PDF's to reflect the new name and also doing a lot of other changes.  I know you're not supposed to really edit a PDF after the fact but they have hundreds upon hundreds of data fields that link to similar fields and some autopopulate etc so recreating the PDF would proabably take longer than editing it.
The problem I am running into is often I edit one of the text fields and it changes the formatting for the entire page and screws everything up.  Is there a good way to edit text other than using the text editors in Acrobat and without having to recreate the entire document?

It's been a long time since I've used Acrobat 7 Pro but I have used Acrobat 8 Professional.
The key thing is to choose the correct tool. You're looking for the Touchup Text tool, which is probably on the Advanced Editing toolbar. You can probably open up that toolbar by choosing View > Toolbars > Advanced Editing. With that tool selected, drag through the sentence to be deleted. Right-click (Control-click) on the selected text and press Delete.

  • Is it possible to edit a pdf with Acrobat Pro XI that was created in LiveCycle?

I downloaded a trial version of LiveCycle awhile back. I created several forms. The trial period ended and I would like to change something. When I try to edit the pdf in Acrobat Pro it tells me that I must use LiveCycle to edit it. Is there a workaround for this? Thank you in advance for any replies.
    Dana

No, all LCD forms can only be edited in LCD.
And the second trial is probably not going to work, unless you install it
    on a different computer.
The best way to salvage your form, in my experience, is to print it to the
Adobe PDF printer, creating a new flat PDF file and then running the Form
Detection Wizard in Acrobat on it and continuing from there. It probably
won't do a perfect job, but it should recognize some of the fields.

  • How do I edit a PDF with PDF Pack?

how do i edit a pdf pack?

    Hi glennkerris,
PDF Pack doesn't let you edit PDF files. If you purchased PDF Pack and decided you don't want it, please let me know and I'll cancel it for you and process a refund.
If you need to edit a PDF file, then Acrobat is what you want. You can try it for free for 30 days, if you'd like (no obligation). See www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.com for more information.

  • Editing multipage PDF in Illustrator for print service bureau

I have a series of 4-page PDFs that I've edited in Illustrator and resaved back into the original files, which were created in Quark (not by me, and the Quark files are not available). My client will have these printed by a professional service bureau, so I want to be sure there'll be no problems with the files I send them. If I outline all fonts, is there anything else I should be aware of?
    Thanx for any help.

This depends on your service bureau, adn if they prefer .ai files or .pdf files.
The advantge to a .pdf file is that the service bureau prints the file as is, and it is quick for them.
The advantage to .ai, is that the service bureau has more control over the file, and have more power to make changes and they can get your job done right if they want to put the time into imaging this.
I would consult your service bureau for which PDF compression works best for them. The most important thing is that you comb over your file prior to making a .pdf to check for things(eg: are blacks using consistlently the same CMYK breakdown, do you want rich blacks of 60c 40my 100K, is everything bold or thin enough, etc).

  • Editing a PDF with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Pro

    Hi,
I've created a Will using an online kit. The final version is in PDF format. I can't print it out as is, because I want to delete a line at the end of a paragraph. I have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Pro which I'm told can easily do this, but I don't know how to use it. I don't want to lose the exact format from the PDF version, because then I'd have to typeset the doc from scratch. By the way, I do not have the fonts used in the PDF doc. I hope this won't make a difference.
Can it be done? If so, exactly how. Please walk me through it like I'm six.
    Thanks so much.
    I'm on Mac OS 10.5.8

It's been a long time since I've used Acrobat 7 Pro but I have used Acrobat 8 Professional.

  • Incomprehensible Editing of PDF with Preview

I used to LOVE using Preview to do simple PDF document editing .. mostly just combining PDF files together. All you had to do was drag the PDF file into the sidebar of an existing one to append them together and you were done. Perfect!
Now here is Snow Leopard and suddenly things have gone all ape-****. I can no longer figure out WHAT the side-bar is doing. I drag a PDF file into it and it seems to simply display that PDF file but doesnt combine the pages ... instead I get an incomprehensible hybrid view of two distinct PDF files kinds sorta wrapped into one view. Which I cannot seem to save and cannot seem to flatten. Save is utterly confusing ... I seem to save the file, but I only really save bits of it. I'm stumped .. Apple have taken a simple elegant model and made it virtually unusable.
What's going on here? Is there something obvious I'm missing? Does anyone have ANY idea what Apple were intending with this utterly confusing "feature" ?

    Hi Bryan,

  • Editing image created with Illustrator brushes

Can parts of an Illustrator brush be removed or erased where they overlap on an angle. Obviously straight portions are not a problem and can be handled by moving the anchor point of the path. However, I have created a pattern brush with 6 parallel lines and I am designing a typeface for a Typography class. There are areas where the brush lines overlap.

Use the appearance palette, and 3 paths for example to make a B.
With appearance, there are so many possibilities.

  • Importing PDF to illustrator. Text does not display.

I am using Illustrator CS6 on windows 7. I created a document on Illustrator CS4 on mac osx and exported the file to a pdf. Now when I want to edit the pdf in illustrator the images and drawings display correctly, but only certain text is shown. Not any text in particular, but just random lines of text within paragraphs. The rest of the text does not show up at all. What could be the issue?

Why not open the AI file?
In any case, as Monika points out, the PDF really needs to eb created with the AI editing capability turned on. That way, AI is opening the AI data contained in the PDF, not the PDF data.
    Take care, Mike
***Oops, cross-post. I see you did preserve the AI data now.***
