Editing a soundtrack

I have just imported a CD of a Broadway Show to Itunes. The CD is the soundtrack of the show. Unfortunately, the whole CD is one track. There are about 4 songs I would like to sync to my IPOD. Is there a way to edit this one track into four 'pieces'? I see there is a way to set a stop and start time in GetInfo for this track but am I right in assuming that the whole track is still in Itunes and will be copied to the Ipod? I really don't want to copy the whole CD to my Ipod four times (each with different start/stop times) just to be able to listen to four of the songs. Is there a better, easier way?
Or should I give up, go to the ITUNES store and buy those four songs and download them?

There are other ways of getting the songs seperated. You might want to do a search through goggle for ( Song Editor ) This will give you a list of software that will allow you to seperate the songs you want. I have never used one so would not know what to recommend to you.

  • Why no "snap to edit" in soundtrack pro?

One thing that bugs me about Soundtrack Pro (aside from all the bugs) is the lack of "snap to" fuctionality in Soundtrack Pro. In FCP you turn on snapping and you find the end of a clip easy within a few pixels. With soundtrack you seem to only have the options of Ruler ticks, seconds and frames. Why no "snap to edit" or end/beginning of a clip?
I'm increasing doing most of my editing in FCP. I'm then sending that edit to Soundtrack Pro where I can sweeten it with no further edits. One day Soundtrack pro will be a editing tool. But not just yet.

    Hi,
Thanks for this tip. it's not quite what i had in mind but it may have it's uses.
What i mean is the sort of snapping in FCP. What i should have said was a way for the play head to "snap" to the end of a clip, so you can then move another clip that will then "Snap" to the end of that clip and so on. As it is, if I move a clip to but up against another, it tends to overlap and start a cross fade. What I want is for it to meet a barrier of sorts, and not start overwriting/cross fading with the clip, so i can get precise alignments and not worry about shaving off a few frames here and there.
Is there anyway of doing this?

  • How can I revert my audio clips that I have edited in Soundtrack Pro back to the original audio?

I edited a project in FCP6 and sent numerous audio clips to Soundtrack Pro where I sampled and removed some AC and fridge compressor
hum from some interview footage.  I'm sending the project out for professional sound mixing and they advised me to restore the original
audio to prevent the creation of artifacts when they process the sound in a different program.
Is there some way to "revert" all my clips that I edited in Soundtrack Pro back to the original audio without going back to
my original interview footage and cutting in clip by clip?  (Next time I'll save my original audio on a duplicate timeline -- live and learn!)
Thanks in advance for any helpful ideas!

What happens if duplicate the sequence, then choose one of them to use "match frame" to get back to the original clips?

  • Recording homemade edited movie soundtrack onto a CD?

I recorded some birdsong with my video camera, loaded them into iMovie then sent them to Garageband to edit. Having edited them I now need to record them onto a CD but GB has sent the file to iTunes as a movie clip. How do I get the soundtrack onto a CD please?
I need this for this evening so I'm panicking a bit here!
    Thanks,
    wippitwalker

Thanks for your reply, Keith, I must admit I'm struggling here & have to go out now but I'll try again when I get home later tonight. Whilst I needed it tonight for a rehearsal I still have a couple more days to play with it before I need it for sound effects for a Show. When I tried opening the file in Quicktime (I think I did it right) I got the message the movie could not be opened error 1409.
    Thanks again,
    Carol.

  • Audio edited in Soundtrack Pro is offline in Final Cut Pro

I'm an owner of iMac 24" and Final Cut Studio Pro.
When send an audio track to waveform editor and save it, in Final Cut the file is offline 'cause it don't find the "render.mov" file. I've the last suite version and normally this file would have automatically embedded in the file package generated by Soundtrack Pro.
Thanks a lot for your help.

i purchased the logic studio suite and it came with 5 jam packs..the other one i spoke of that was bundled with final cut had no additional content outside of the stock basic content in the core program, so my new question would be, if i can locate the individual samples from an earlier version, could i just drop them into the library for use??
    thanks in advance

  • Going from "Audio File" to "Multi-track" Editing in Soundtrack

    Howdy!
In Final Cut I've exported multiple clips via right click and "Send to STP as Audio File Project."
Now, I've realized I am doing it all horribly wrong, and I would like to export my entire sequence again as a multi-track project!
Great, but now I have to ask myself, "What about the clips I've already EQed and used the noise cancellation tool on? Do I leave them as they are and just expect for them to go back to their original state? Or should I delete the files that STP made?" When I right click a clip this is the file type that STP made, that FCP links to, "292_1336_03.MOV (sent).stap"
Can I delete that file and about 7 others to make my audio return to it's normal state? Or is there a couple other steps I should do before ruining my life?
    Thanks a bunch,
    JS

I'd start with a Send to STP Multiclip project. You'll probably have to isolate the clips you already modified individually, only so you don't lay another track-based effect on top of an existing clip-based effect. Then just listen and see what you've got. If it's not going to work for you, well, chalk that up to a "learning moment," or "experiment." I have plenty of those sitting around here. Once you get a handle on the STP workflow it's much faster overall for dealing with an entire project (not so good for single clips).

  • Does QT Pro edit soundtracks simply?

A really basic question before I spend $30....
QT plays videos recorded with my camera in movie mode fine. I just can't do much editing. If I upgrade to QT Pro will I be able to edit the soundtracks separately from the video? (Specifically, can I eliminate stupid things I said while my wife was recording...?)
    Thanks, in advance

If you are trying to edit your voice from a soundtrack this is very difficult to accomplish.
If you're trying to replace the whole soundtrack with silence you can do this for free using various editing tools. QT Sync lets you remove tracks from a movie.
I only have a very, very old version of QTPro so I don't know the capabilities of the newer versions. I don't think I could selectively silence segments of a track with QTPro. I would have to take movie, isolate the audio track, then use an audio editing program such as Amadeus or Audacity to silence segments of the track, then recombine with the video.

  • Problem editing soundtrack in InstantMovie

I have created an Outdoor Wedding theme InstantMovie for my wedding video clips. Initially I was able to edit the soundtrack by hovering my pointer over an edge of the soundtrack and it would convert to the drag pointer. Now when I try to do this I cannot get the drag pointer to come up. Now when I move my pointer from the edge I get an open text box. What is causing this to happen?

Screen capture showing box arrowed with small + in corner of box. Box appears when clicking and holding mouse down and expands to any shape when dragging mouse. I found the Pachelbel music also in Audio tracks 10 and 11 (not shown in screen capture) which I am able to edit but can no longer edit the soundtrack..

  • Soundtrack Pro clips to final cut

I have a number of sound clips that were recorded and edited in Soundtrack Pro 3.0 that I now need to export to Final Cut.  I know I have done this in the past, I thought I just used Export to WAVE files. However, it is not working this time.
I don't see any info on this in the manual - everything is about bringing Final Cut files into Soundtrack and not the other way around.

Export to AIFF at 48kHz 16 Bit.

  • DVD Studio Pro and Soundtrack Pro always ask for Serial

I use FCP X and sometimes Logic Pro X but the latter doesn't have nearly the capabilities for dialog editing that Soundtrack Pro did. Now that I'm on Yosemite (have no idea is that the problem) I can only open Soundtrack Pro or DVD Studio Pro by re-entering the serial number. I've seen this before with OS updates, but now it asks for me to re-enter serial every time I try to open them. Even if they were open a few minutes ago and I haven't restarted. Any ideas?

  • Audio Mixer.   Soundtrack Volume slider not working.

I am using Premiere Elements 11 running under Windows 7, 64 bit.   I was in the middle of editing the soundtrack of a slideshow (video clips combined with .jpg photos). In Audio Mixer the Soundtrack volume slider stopped working.  It would not move up or down.   What have I done to cause this?

    John,
Sounds like Track Keyframes have already been added with Audio Mixer.
Now, you can easily overwrite those, but only with automation in Audio Mixer. With Audio Mixer open, just hit the Spacebar, and immediately adjust the Volume to what you want. If you do not need active Volume control, i.e. it changes over time, just hold the Volume slider in the position that you want, until playback has finished. Done, and the old Track Keyframes will have been overwritten.
If your Audio comes too close to the beginning of the Timeline, for you to comfortably begin to adjust it, after hitting playback, just create about a 02 sec. Clip of Black Video (New Icon), and place that at the very beginning of the Timeline. That will also create 02 sec. of silence (often termed Black Audio, by some), and give you plenty of time to get up to the Volume slider. Personally, I start every Timeline with 02 sec. of Black Video, then do a Dip-to-Black Transition to "fade in" my Video. [There is another reason, but it does not apply in PrE. As I create most Projects with DD 5.1 SS Audio, some DVD players take a moment to lock onto the Audio Stream, and that gives them time to do so, without affecting the Audio that the viewer hears.]
One other method, to change things fairly easily, would be to Select ALL Audio Clips on that Track, then just drag them to another, free Audio Track, without Track Keyframes.
This method brings back the ability to use the other control in Audio Mixe - a static adjustment, where one just sets the Volume slider to the desired level, and it stays there.
A tip, that might be useful, is to go to Edit>Preferences>Audio, and set Minimal Time Interval Thinning up to about 100ms. This creates fewer Track Keyframes, and I find it still more than adequate for smooth adjustments in Volume and Balance. If there is any interval, that is too abrupt, I just manually change the Interpolation of the Keyframe from Linear (the default) to say Bezier.
Good luck, and hope that this helps,
    Hunt

  • IMovie 08 good start, but sound editing...

After my first disappointment of iLife 08, I see the possibilities of 08.
Trying to create a good movie, I am wrestling with the audio. How do I lower the volume in one section etc.
There is suggested to open Garageband. How do I edit the soundtrack of an iMovie 08 project in Garageband. On my iLife Garageband videoscore seems to be missing.
Message was edited by: Albert Zeeman

To my knowledge, there is only one overall volume control, you cannot control the volume of different section.
Unfortunately, 08 does not have a send to Garageband feature any more. So you will have to export your file manually and then import it into Garageband. There you will find the options, most of which were available in 06, you arel looking for.
Garaband automatically open a videoscore upon import of a movie.

  • Exporting OMF to soundtrack

I have a project that is picture-locked in FCP 5 and now I wanna sound edit in Soundtrack. Do I just export as OMF and then re-import the individual files to Soundtrack? What's the right way to do this?

Oh, no! Much easier than that!
You can either control-click (right-click) on the sequence or a bunch of selected clips that you wish to work with in Soundtrack and select "Send To" from the context menu. Under the sub menu that pops up, you can select "Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project".
Soundtrack will be launched and a new multitrack project created for you to play with.
I should probably add that when you're done in Soundtrack Pro, you'll want to create a mixdown in Soundtrack Pro. From the File menu, select "Export", and then "Export Mix". Then save the file with your project. Then, back in Final Cut, you can add that mixdown file to your video project, mute all your original clips, and export your completed video with soundtrack.
You might give this whole "round-trip" a try with a small practice project first to make sure you've got it down before jumping into a big project.

  • Sound Degradation in Soundtrack

I've imported a song to edit in Soundtrack, which for all intensive purposes sounds normal. Upon exporting the completed mix, the resulting .aif sounds "muddy" and of low quality.
Could the problem be with the original music track or something else?

Actually to clarify, I'm working in Soundtrack and not Pro (I was directed to this forum from the FCE forum). To answer your questions as best as I can (as a novice):
    1. Yes, the export does sound muddier than the mix playback in Soundtrack.
    2. To my knowledge, yes. I haven't toyed with any related settings.
    3. I believe Soundtrack only allows me to export to AIFF. I've never noticed any other format option. I use the default 16-bit bit depth and 48 kHz sample rate settings.
    Thanks.

  • Soundtrack pro round tripping to FCP

    Hello,
I've been using FCP for a while now but I'm new to soundtrack Pro and working my way through the Apple Pro Training Series: Sound Editing in Final Cut Studio and soundtrack Pro. Everything is going fine and i'm getting into it - even if a bit slowly!
However when I've tried to do the round-tripping back into FCp the file doesn't appear like it says it will after export. I've just done Lesson 3 in the book (with the same thing happening to me in lesson 2) where I have finished my edit in Soundtrack Pro and I go to export, the process bar comes up and then it takes me back to FCP and my OLD sequence but the NEW sequence doesn't appear. The book says the import XML dialog will appear but it doesn't .....
I can import it manually by going to where I have saved the exported file but surely the whole idea of this round-tripping is to do it for you so you don't have to search for it...
Does anyone have any ideas why this is? Is it just as simple as something is ticked or selected somewhere?
    Thanks
