Editing a word in a PDF file

When I change or delete a word in a PDF file, it messes up the format of the paragraph - letters get moved to other words, etc. How can this be avoided?

Of course salesmen won't say this, but the remarkable thing about PDF editing is that you can do it at all to something so unsuited. But it's painful and a desperate last resort for when there is no original, it was lost, cannot be purchased, and all backups were eaten by termites.
It is definitely not a solution for collaborative editing. You should have the same software as the graphic artist, or they should make the changes - as they did.

In a PDF you can´t change single letter.
You can only try to convert the PDF document into a Word document.
Now you can search and replace a letter.

Is there any way I can count words in a PDF file without resorting to Acrobat Reader (which apparently has that feature)?
That's a massive program, which I actually don't like.
I need to count words in the PDF file because I write my papers with LaTeX, and they're full of my extensive comments.

Adding definitions to Specific Words within a PDF file

I have a client who wants me to add definitions to Glossary words throughout a PDF file. They want it to look like a "roll over" or when you click on the glossary word a definition pops up. Is there a way to do this in Acrobat 9 or it can't be done?

After you merge the files or combine files ,click on the Page Thumbnails panel on the left hand side.
In the Page Thumbnail panel ,right click and you will get a drop down list .Select the option "Number Pages".
You will see a dialog box with several options .You can renumber the pages from there as per your requirement.

That functionality in iBooks is limted to ebook files and is not available for standard PDFs. Try Adobe Reader.

Why am I seeing italicized words in a pdf file in bold type?

I think it cannot be that the way of transport to the iPad (Dropbox) is causing this, or does it happen only when transferred through Dropbox?.
The only thing that comes to mind is that a particular font is not in the iPad and then replaced by a default and not displayed as expected.
The PDF's come from the same computer everytime? PC or Mac? Which program?
With which app do you read the PDF's in the iPad (iBooks, PDFreader, Goodreader, or..?). If you have several readers: do all display this phenomenon?

As PDF is not a word processing file format applications that work PDF cannot perform word processing activity.
What can be done when using Acrobat XI is the touchup of characters and character strings.
However if the PDF content is the output image of scanner that content is an image / a picture of text.
To work images / pictures you'd use a photo editor (such as Photoshop Elements or such).
You fail to specify what application you are using (Acrobat XI or Adobe Reader XI).
If you have Acrobat you can perform OCR using Acrobat's ClearScan. The output of ClearScan OCR lends itself to doing "touchups".
If you have Acrobat you can export the OCR output to a Word file. Needed / desired cleanup can be done using Word.
If you have Adobe Reader you cannot modify PDF page content, create PDF or export PDF page content.
With this situation you'd want to be subscribed to one of Adobe's online subscription services.
There is ExportPDF and PDF Pack. With either you can go to the service's web site, sign in and then upload the PDF for processing.
If the PDF content needs OCR you'd direct the service to do that.
The output is a Word file. You'd for sure have to cleanup the Word file but that'd be standard word processing.

When embedding a pdf document into a Crystal Report, only the one page shows.
Reproducing the Issue
Environment:
Crystal Reports OLE object
Cause
An OLE object only displays the first page.
Resolution
Embed multiple objects, one for each page
Or
Use a hyperlink to the object instead

It adds lines that can't be removed and some things are lighter grey in word whereas they were black in the PDF file. How do I fix these issues.

The problem: when I download a PDF, for example an article from school, it surely have a default name such as author's name. When I try to select a article from the list and a very long list, it makes thing difficult. I perfer it to be editable so I can rewrite into the title of article instead, and if possible, I and some method to arrang it such as from a to z or by date of file created.

Suggest to install free Adobe Reader and use it to rename the PDF file.

Acrobat X Pro - Word 2010 to pdf files

I just bought AcrobatX to create high quality pdf files from Word2010 files in WIndows 7.
Unfortunately when I do create them from inside Word using the Acrobat tab, the program crashes!
However, if I print the same files using the Adobe printer, the pdf files are generated. I do not know, however, if the output quality is the same (I select the "press quality" job option).
Could anyone please clarify this issue? I did buy this software just to obtain pdf files with the highest quality possible (press quality) but it seems it is not what I got.

I will follow your advise of printing using the Acrobat printer. Yet I face now a new problem!! Some of the figures doesnot show up at all!

In the zip it is also a pdf created by using the Adobe printer. Please take a look at Fig-4-2. It is of bad quality! Any suggestions to improve it? I got just a few (out o a few hundreds) that bad!.
I insert figures (made by CorelDraw and exported as WMF) in Word as Insert, Pictures.
