Editing amount of pause time or dead air between tracks in iTunes

Is there a way to increase the pause time between tracks in iTunes? Currently iTunes plays seamlessly from one track to the next, sometimes even clipping the end of a track. I'd like to have a second or two pause between tracks. Is there a way to do this?
Thanks.

If it's clipping the end of a track, then Crossfade Playback is probably turned on. Turn it off, and iTunes will move from one song to the next exactly as it does on the CD (i.e., with however much space between them as there is on the album).

  • Music - "Dead Space" Between Tracks

    Hello,
Got my music to BB Music Folder OK, and it plays and displays Albums correctly; BUT, unlike any other MP3 player I've used, there is a blank (dead) second or two added between each track.
I listen to music where one track is seamless to another (mainly classical) and the two second pause between tracks is destructive to the listening experience.
I have looked at options and find no setting for this.  Is there a general setting elsewhere that I don't know about?

Dont bring TOS into this. What does TOS really have to do with this anyway. I simply asked a question and received a response that basicly said that I was asking a stupid question.
"Your question gets asked on a daily basis, and has been answered many times. If you search for 'gapless playback' you'll see how just how many people inquire about this."
Hmm... Kinda sounds like I am being belittled a bit because I did not do a search for gapless playback. If you will forgive me, Im not the most technically inclined person in the world. I use my ipod to do what it is designed for, LISTEN TO MUSIC, not look like a trendy person who does not really enjoy music but likes to have one anyway. You can take that as you want.
As far as him not having to do anything with apple, yes it is a good thing. Im sure that apple has better sense than to higher somebody that answers questions like that.
And guess what, I was not aware that there were so many people that had the same complaint as me. I have talked to one other person in my life with an ipod that has had that problem. I guess this would be the thing I can thank Ol' richy for the most is telling me that there are multiple people that wish they could listen to their music without a gap.
Oh, and yes I did happen to send feedback to apple. What are you, his body guard?
And I believe that it is not so much the TOS that should have been reffered to as much as the legend key, Silly me, I didnt notice that he does not have a shiny apple next to his name. But neither do you, are you looking for a job with apple, or just hang out on the forums all day?

  • Dead Air Phone Calls with Blue Tooth and Speaker function?

My experience with Note 4 speaker function and blue tooth headsets is they malfunction as often as they work properly during phone calls.  When the speaker or blue tooth is activated during a call there is dead air between myself and the other party.  I am on my fourth Note 4 in a month due to this problem, that is I bought a new phone and Verizon has sent me three replacements in an effort to fix the issue.  Each phone has malfunctioned in exactly the same way.  Verizon and Samsung are unable to discuss this with me other than to go through all the diagnostic steps every time I call to ask for help.  I am at the point of either living with the problem or changing phones altogether.
Something I find amazing is when I talk to Verizon or Samsung they say this is not a reported issue.  Maybe I am the only person who had this experience.  Maybe I got the only four Note 4's (in a row) that malfunction like this.  Maybe.
This leaves holding the phone to my ear, which is rather old school and does not work with my state's driving laws.   Any fixes or reality checks are welcome.

        SteveQuintanaRealEstate,
I'm saddened to hear that you've had such an experience with your Galaxy Note 4's.  It sounds like Verizon has done everything possible to assist with your Samsung devices.  Have you noticed any patterns to when the malfunctions occur?

  • Getting an album to play without that little "dead air" pause in between tracks

I have a Zen Xtra. I've uploaded a bunch of cds. some of the albums, the songs overlap alittle from track to track. there is no "dead air" in between.
How do I get the Zen Xtra to play the album without that little "glitch" when going from track to track ?

Creative players do not support gapless playback or have a crossfading feature built into them. The only way you are going to get this is by making your album one long mp3 track but by doing this you will not be able to skip from song to song using your FF/RW buttons.
A Rockbox'ed iPod, Archos, iRi'ver or iAudio (www.rockbox.org) will do gapless and crossfading but you must load the Rockbox firmware onto these devices, bypassing the nati've firmware that came with the player (I know with iPod you can boot into Apple firmware by pressing a key during bootup ... I have a Rockbox'ed iPod 5G) ... but AFAIK, the Rio Karma was the only player that has nati've crossfading and gapless support (I have one and it rocks but sadly they are not made anymore as Rio no longer exists. Ebay is the way to get them but 99% of them are used/refurbished ... I got mine refurbished). So far, there is no Rockbox support for Creative players.Message Edited by mdscriber3 on 04-06-200605:09 PM

well...that's disappointing. if they are so "creative" they should "create" a player that does the gapless playback. nobody wants to hear those little gaps when they're listening to abbey road or whatever.. thumbs down !

  • Reducing or eliminating dead air in audio

Up to now I have used a passive mic mixer to capture dialog from external mics while I am filming. Works great. Dead silence except for the dialog. (BTW if you're interested, I've been using Beachtek and SignVideo mixers, they are great but they only have 2 mic inputs)
However now I have a project where I have to use an active mixer (a Rolls MX124, battery powered, thankfully, not AC; nice little unit, 4 mic inputs). I've done a test recording and there is noticeable dead air in the background. I have turned the levels down as far as I can and still capture the dialog.
Any suggestions on an audio filter/setting in FCE that I can use to reduce the dead air? I tried various audio filters before with no real success; reducing the high frequencies affects everything, not just the dead air. And the frequency range of the dead air is too great for the parametric EQ filter. I suppose Soundtrack Pro's noise filter would be the fix, but I'm not in a position to buy Pro just for this project.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestion about the noise gate. I played with it some time ago for other reasons and will give it another try.
I don't share your opinion of Rolls equipment. My experience has been very satisfactory with them and I'd recommend them to anyone.
Yes, I'd prefer my Mackie mixer but there are 2 problems with that - no AC in the field and anyway as soon as AC is involved, I get problems with hum, at least with my DV cams. That's why I've been using passive mixers.

  • Mountain Lion Download Pauses Time after Time

I have set energy saver to never, and taken the additional step of playing iTunes music so the computer won't sleep during download, but it pauses time after time and has to be initiated from the beginning. I'm installing over 10.6.8.

such an obnoxious time to download?
It may depend on your internet connection speed. Anything less than 15Mbps and the download may time out before it's finished.
    http://www.speedtest.net
Disable anti virus software and try turning off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall.
Some ISP's limit the amount of data used for downloading so you may want to contact your internet service provider for details.

  • Time Capsule: dead or coughing-up blood?

I had (until last night) a home network using Time Capsule with Air Port Express.  Today network has disappeared  (not recognised by Airport Utility).  After unplugging and restarting both devices, TC now has orange light always on and not blinking, and Express has orange light blinking.  Hub is fine BTW.  I have read in other threads that TC hard-drive may have failed.  Is there another explanation, solution or fix?  Thanks for your help.

Dead hard disk most likely although the A1409 are known to have a number of strange issues.
If it is in warranty or you have apple care get apple to replace it. It must be less than or just on 3years old.
Sometimes the WD green drive just up and loses format.. no logical reason but I have seen a few with the problem.
If you have no warranty open it up .. pull out the hard disk and see if the TC will boot without.. they are supposed to work as airport extreme without a hard disk. If it works ok just replace the disk.

  • Main # Ans'rd by AA - Select Contact Ctr Options or Ext - Dead Air

We've had this issue for about 8 months, where a caller dials our main #, it's answered by the Auto Attendant as soon as one of the Contact Center options or the Customer Service extension is chosen, the caller intermittently encounters dead air/silence.
It has occurred on all of our Auto Attendant options and specifically on our Customer Service ext.   Since this issue is intermittent & consistent, it's been a challenge to troubleshoot.  I've worked with our Cisco vendor in conjunction with several Cisco Engineers (Call Manager & UCCX) W/O resolution.
Additionally, our telco provider was also involved for a couple of months, intrusive testing and still no resolution.  I have spent a great deal of time and $, but I sincerely think what's happening is something simple and is being overlooked.
The first occurrence began when the systems below were upgraded from 7.1 to 8.5:
Cisco Publisher & Subscriber - System Version:  8.5.1.15900-4
Cisco UCCX - System Version: 8.5.1.11003-32
    Cisco Unity System Version: 8.5.1ES102.15900-102
    Voice Gateway  - Cisco 2921
The many times I've recently tested, I was only able to recreate the issue once.  The dead air occurred I called from my ext. (registered in Cisco SUB) to the Customer Service ext. (registered with the Cisco PUB)...in this test, no telco is involved just a call between Call Managers.  So is the issue in the Call Managers or on the Voice Gateways?
Has anyone experienced this issue and can provide feedback on any further steps to be considered?

    Hi Susan,
I'm taking a stab and assuming your call flow traverses your VG and UCCX.
Have you checked in the UCCX RTMT tool to confirm your overall telephony subsystem state is in service?
It is possible there might be an issue with a trigger/CTI port. The UCCX application steps through ports so if 95 of them are ok and 1 has issues it will take time to get there but it eventually will.
The same theory applies if the call is traversing voice gateways. The VG consumes channels as call volume builds and it could take time, but eventually you will hit the misbehaving channel. I've seen this on T1/CAS configurations .. the call connects (dead air) however, the channel is waiting for more inputs and eventually times out and we hear the extremely rare, highly regarded "Your call cannot be completed ... " recording.
Good luck .. these take time to find ...
    Thanks,
    Keith

  • Why does Audition add 'dead air' to the end of my files?

I have numerous mp3's that I have batch processed total RMS, then I have reduced noise on each. When I saved them all out, their lengths have changed significantly.
When listend to, they sound normal, except that where they should end there is now an additional 45 seconds (or more) dead air.
Opening them in Audition shows them as the original length - no dead air. So, I am a little frustrated because I cannot edit what I cannot even see.
I am working in Audition 5.5, macbook pro...
Thanks for your help in advance!

  • Some of my songs in iTunes seem to have added a few minutes of dead air....

I noticed that a few of my songs in iTunes seem to have added a few minutes of dead air space at the end. For example, I just played a song that should have lasted 4 minutes, and it is showing up under the "time" heading as "12.47." When I played this song, it played out for the 4 minutes, and then continued to play dead air for another 8 minutes. How did this happen and how can I fix it?

  • Firefox is using large amounts of CPU time and disk access, and I need to know how to shut down most of this so I can actually use the browser.

Firefox is a very busy piece of software. It's using large amounts of CPU time and disk access. It puts my usage at low priority, so I have to wait for some time to be able to use my pointer or keyboard. I don't know what it uses all that CPU and disk access time for, but it's of no use to me. It often takes off with massive use of resources when I'm not doing anything, and I may not have use of my pointer for several minutes. How can I shut down most of this so I can use the browser to get my work done. I just want to use the web site access part of the software, and drop all the extra. I don't want Firefox to be able to recover after a crash. I just want to browse with a minimum of interference from Firefox. I would think that this is the most commonly asked question.

That's a kernel panic and indicates some sort of problem either with the computer's hardware or software. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. It would help to post the panic log: Mac OS X- How to log a kernel panic.
Meanwhile, try booting the computers into Safe Mode then restarting normally. If this is simply a disk repair or cache file problem then this may fix it.
You can also try creating a new admin account on each computer then booting into the new account. This would help determine if the problem is related to a bad file in the user accounts.

Try connecting an Ethernet cable from your Mac to the Time Capsule to see if that allows AirPort Utility to "see" it.
By the way, don't confuse "Time Machine",backup software included with OS X since version 10.5, with "Time Capsule", an Apple Wi-Fi base station with an integrated disk drive.
