Editing and publishing in iMovie

Question

I have been producing short clips for YouTube on a continuing project, but cannot figure out how to eliminate the "junk" that sometime comes up (blurry, jumpy, or just plain terrible) portions that I would like to cut out, but haven't been able to do so.
Also, I cannot publish directly to YouTube from iMovie, but have to upload to my desktop and then publish to YouTube, is this normal.

No problem, I think I know what you can do that's different from what you are doing now.
First a little refesher on how iMovie is arranged when it first opens up. You have the bottom half of the window that's the 'Events'. That's where all the raw, unedited clips go when you import them into iMovie. From there you 'select' the parts you want and drag them to the Project Browser, with is the top half of the iMovie Window. Projects are where you assemble just the pieces you want and add voice-overs, titles, transitions and effects.
What you probably want to do differently is use the yellow selection box to select just the pieces that are good video. Click somewhere within the Event clip and you get that yellow selection box. On each end is a smaller rectangle you can click on and drag the ends in either direction, let's call these 'handles'. So click on the Event, drag the handles and drag it out as far as you can. Everything inside of the selection can now be dragged and dropped into the Project Browser window up above the Event Browser. It's kinda like copying and pasting, without having to go to the iMovie Menus to do it, Select, Drag, Drop. As long as you select the pieces in BETWEEN the pieces you don't want, well that's just like cutting out the pieces that are bad.
Now you might occasionally need to zoom-in, zoom-out to get your yellow selection box just right. There's a slider under the Event Browser on the bottom righthand side, that will help you get really long segments if you can't see the whole thing in the Event window. But stick with it, just select the good video pieces and drag them to the project.
It's kind of a different approach, a different way of thinking about how you would edit something, but that's how the newest versions of iMovie work.
