Editing Arabic text in iWeb

I've entered some Arabic text into iWeb and don't seem to be edit it. Need I say more? It's behaving like a solid block (image perhaps?).
This is the markup: <p class="paragraph_style_6">                          المكتبة العربية الإسلامية                                  <br /></p>
And, yes, there are spaces before and after, which I can't get rid of either. Incidentally, or perhaps not, for some reason most of my paragraph styles are "4" but this is "6". It's supposed to be the same as the others, not sure why it's different nor how to change it.

Non-joining Arabic letters normally means you are trying to use a Windows Arabic font.  Instead use one of those that comes with OS X, like Geeza Pro.  It's a completely different problem than the OP's editing difficulty.
I am curious how easy you find it to edit your Arabic text.  In the past iWeb had such serious bugs regarding cursor action and formatting issues that it was normally advised that people use a different app.

You need to use another app, because Pages has bugs that make it unsuitable for RTL scripts.  Mellel is the best, but TextEdit, Nisus Writer, and OpenOffice should also work OK.

Also an honorable way to make money IMO.I was using iText before 2004 when the first edition of the book came out ( 4 years or so after the library was first introduced) and it was hard work. PDF is a very complex document format and just using the Javadoc does not really get you anywhere. There are many 'gotchas' in iText and most of the iText tutorials cover only the very basics and pretty much none of the 'gochas'. The book starts off with very simple examples that could be constructed from the Javadoc but then it does move on to the more complex issues. Worth every penny.

  • Support for Arabic text and Direction:rtl

I am using HTML/CSS/Javascript to develop my application.
I have been trying to get direction:rtl (right to left) to

Does Adobe AIR lack the support for this feature ? If so,
what are the alternatives to Adobe AIR ??

  • I can't past in any text from Photoshop to Premiere, RTL or LTR Latin, Hebrew or Arabic text to Premiere Pro cc 2014. It works only between Photoshop 2014 - AE 2014.

Any one suffering from the same issue?
I use to write text RTL(right to left) written languages like Arabic and Hebrew in Photoshop, where after copy and paste the text in Premiere to get the job done. With the latest version of Adobe cc 2014 I can't copy and past any text in to Premiere from Photoshop any more, not even text written in latin. Any one has the same problem or work around this issue possibly. It still works fine to copy/paste arabic text written on Photoshop in to After Effects, but Premiere pro 2014 when you paste any text.
I'm sure this forum works as feedback for Adobe in general and my question is:
    - Does adobe have any intention in the future to implement RTL text writing in Adobe CC or not? Could any one please answer this question from ADOBE?
As media consultant I can only recommend for my clients using RTL to use Apple FCP X which has built in RTL support and a new way of editing and greater workflow.

Please check this blog post. Updating from Time Machine can cause this issue: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later).

  • Importing Arabic text from an XML file

Importing text from an XML file to appear as text in Flash
works in English, however if the text I want to import is in
Arabic, when I test the movie there is no text at all.
Is there some particular syntax to preface the Arabic text?
I'll want to import text from XML in other languages too.
    (French)
I'd cut and pasted some Arabic text into the XML file that
displays pictures and text in the "slideshow.fla" (
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flash/applications/jpeg_slideshow_xml/jpeg_slideshow_xml03.ht ml)
Substituting Arabic text for English text, editing the XML
    file with Dreamweaver.
Any ideas as to how I might achieve my objective of importing
    Arabic text into Fash?
I'd started developing my prototpe in Macromedia Director 7,
and then Director MX, but I have not found a suitable Arabic font
that I can embed that will allow me to display Arabic fonts in
Adobe Director. I have the Arabic text in a Word document.
I've dicovered that my Flash MX Pro and Dreamweaver both
support Arabic fonts, but I want to import text from an XML file.
I'd prefer using cast libraries and cast members, but I don't
know of an equivalent in Flash to what I'm comfortable with in
    Director.

Oh so many questions. You probably aren't going to like the
answers. I have Flash MX04 pro (aka Flash 7) and things made a big
jump between MX (aka 6) and MX04. If you only have MX, there might
not be a way to do this. All my advice is based upon MX04 or
    higher.
It is possible to do complex languages in Flash. My
experience is with Hindi and I've helped a few folks here with
    Arabic.
You won't be able to use text from Microsoft Word – at
least I don't think so. The XML file will need to be saved in the
UTF-8 format. I think Word uses its own scheme and won't work. But
I'm not a Word expert. Something like Text Edit (Mac) or WordPad
(PC) should be able to save a UTF-8 file.
The next problem is you mention "suitable Arabic font that I
can embed." AFAIK, you can't embed any of the complex scripts in
Flash. You just have to rely on the end user having appropriate
fonts installed and enabled. Most operating systems from 2000 on do
have this – although some folks like to remove them to save
    space.
Next issue will be line composing. I've found that when using
anything above the normal Latin range that Flash suddenly forgets
how to make a line fit into a text area. It will just break things
in the middle of words and not even notice the spaces between
words. I've written a little snippet of code that "composes" the
lines. It works well with Hindi and folks here have used it with
Arabic and not come back saying that it doesn't work. Search the
forums (both the Flash and Actionscript) if you can't find it I'll
dig it out when I get home.
    So here is the checklist:
Make sure the XML is saved in UTF-8
    Import the XML file
In Testing environment go Debug–>List variables.
Does it show up correctly there?
Does it show at all in a text field?
Use the "composer" to make the lines break.

  • Arabic text appears in reverse

    Hi,
Do you know the answer to this?
My Arabic text is appearing correctly
    However
If you copy and paste arabic text from MS Word 2000 into Forms the characters appear reversed.
    i.e.
    Arabic example
    appears as
    elpmaxe cibarA
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
This only happens on Win NT but not Win
    2000.
    Thanks
    John

  • Arabic text copy paste

    Hi,
I am having problems in paste arabic text in final cut pro x.
The text is in text edit, I copy it and I can paste it everywhere: safari, word, photoshop... but not in FCPX.
I need to copy and paste for arabic subtitles and titles. By chance the first time I tried it worked fine, but after that everytime I try to paste the text FCPX doesn't respond.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    P

    This is a soundbite:
Again, please try to cut and paste more than one time because here and there randomly it works.
    Thank you

  • Indesign 2014 - manipulating Arabic text

    Hi All,
We are trying desperately to get Indesign CC 2014 to work with arabic copy, but have cone across some rather fruity issues.
Using the plain text ( copied from text edit ), are inserting arabic text ( arial font ) into a document.
As you will see from the screen grab, the single line world editor is selected.
But as you will also see from the screen grab - the full point on the arabic sentence in at the wrong end of the line - it should read to the left.
This has happened in several files - but we cannot find any solution.
Here is another example...the larger paragraph is set no differently, yet reads correctly. The smaller copy does not.
Strangely enough, the Adobe guide to using Arabic copy in CC, demonstrate menu options that we don't have ( indesign CC 2014 )
It also appear that any type of return ( hard or soft) will affect the orientation of the line - so we took them out and presto! the line read correctly.
But put them back in and the full point skips to the end of the line and make the sentence incorrect.
Can anyone explain what is going on ??
    Thanks in advance
    Everafter13

Sounds like the key here is that you don't have an ME enabled version installed (which has those extra settings for story direction).
If you change the language settings in the CC Desktop App using the Gear icon I believe you should be able to download the Arabic/English version to get what you need.

  • How can I import formatted text without iWeb changing it into png files?

I have a resume page on my site and just realized it has changed into png files.
The formatting is time consuming and I'd rather not have to reformat in iWeb to keep this from happening. Any ideas?
    Thanks, David http://web.mac.com/phelpssculpture/iWeb
    ibook & imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Kyn,
I tried that and it does stay text, but for the life of me I can't get the formatting to be consistent. Everything looks fine in Text edit as well as iWeb, but once published whether to .mac or to a folder on my own computer, the formatting goes whacky, some things are out of alignment but I don't know why. I can see in the code that the spacing is wrong but I can't figure out why.

  • English to Arabic Text

Hi, How do you simply display Arabic text in ILL CS3. I'm Using a Mac 10.5.6.
The text has been supplied correctly as outlines in Arabic, but I want to reflow the sentences, and would like to make these changes.
When I open the file that hasn't been converted to outlines, the text is gibberish.
Any help would be appreciated, as to how I can display the Arabic text correctly.
    Thanks, Steven

To handle Arabic, you need to use Middle Eastern editions of Adobe software, such as Illustrator CS4-ME. Arabic is a script based language where each character charges its form depending upon the position within the word. If you import Arabic and place in English Illustrator, it will incorrectly reverse the characters, and not join them.

  • Edit-able tables in iWeb?

I am a teacher, and have a website for my students where I list what we do every day in class and have links to all notes and assignments. Usually, I just create a table that looks like a calendar. I've been using Google Sites, and it's been fine except I seem to reach my file limit in January. I'd love to use iWeb, but I can't figure out how to make an edit-able table for the website.
I realize that you can make tables using HTML, but those don't seem to be that easy to edit (i.e. I would need to edit it at least once every day to update what we did in class). I know you can use Google Calendar, but the layout of the calendar entries just doesn't work as well as when I make my own table-esque calendar, and then I to link any files I have to upload them to Google Documents first.
I realize I'm being picky, but I'd just love a way to make and edit a table in iWeb like there is in Google Sites. Has anyone been able to find a way to do this? If so, my next question will be: how do I actually get my kids to remember to check the freakin' calendar? But I regress.
    Thank you so much!

Hmmmm.. as far as I remember the answer is no.
The way I do it is to drop an empty text box over the file name in the table and make this a hyperlink to the file.
Some people report that this doesn't work and use a shape with almost zero opacity. I think they have this problem when using internal rather than external links. If you are linking to files in a download folder on your server you will be using external links and the text box is a lot quicker to do.
The links on this page are done in this fashion....

  • Display arabic text in Tablemodel

    Hi all,
i have to show some arabic text (in UTF-8) in my TableModel, but i only get boxes (not ????).
When I check the popup box, setting my mouse over the row, i can see the text correctly.
Also, using debug, i can see that the string contains arabic text.
Is there any option i must activate to see it in my table?

You will need to set the Font for the renderer to one that has glyphs for Arabic characters. On my Linux system there are a whole load of fonts that seem to work. A small subset is
    "Arab","Cortoba" and "Courier New"
