Editing audio tracks in Windows/Properties option

Hello all
Can someone please tell me whether I can edit an audio track in the windows/properties dialog box? I'm trying to synchronise a sound track with a video/movie and am having a little difficulty getting the various bits of music to start and stop precisely where I want them to. It occurs to me that if you can edit in the windows/properties box, you can fine tune the precise start and stop times (displayed in time/frames).
Or maybe there is another way to do this (apart from highlighting desired section of movie and then adding an audio track with "add to selection and scale") which someone can tell me about?
I also wondered whether it is possible to "view" the audio track simultaneously with the video?
With thanks
MB

You don't edit tracks from the Movie Properties window. It is for viewing the tracks, adding annotations, applying masks or setting transparency or layers.
You can "extract" tracks to edit them in this new Player menu. You can play more than one file at a time (View menu / Play all Movies).
You can "fine tune" making a "selection" (in and out points) by holding down the Shift key as you tap the right/left arrow keys. This may help you synchronize the audio to the video track.
Using "Add to Selection & Scale" makes (forces) the tracks to have the same duration.

  • Export edited audio track in Final Cut Express

Does anyone know how to export an edited audio track as a mp3 without it being a video file using FCE?

Use Export>QuickTime Movie and change the export function to audio only. Take that to iTunes and use it to convert to MP3.

  • Editing audio tracks?

everytime time I edit an audio track,
e.g. removing unwanted noise from beginning of a "live" guitar track it shifts, causing that track to be out of sync with previously recorded tracks. what am I doing wrong.
I know why this is happening, what I dont't know is how to prevent and or correct this after the fact

Could be you're doing the edit in the Sample Editor? Regions in the Sample Editor have a start and end, and an anchor point. The anchor point is what Logic uses to snap the region to the bar grid. Often the anchor is at the start point.
If you trim off the beginning of a region, you could be moving the anchor to the new (later) start point, and re-snapping the region to the grid, out of time.
Do the trimming directly in the Arrange window, and you shouldn't have this problem.

  • Changing # of audio tracks -no "clip settings" option?

I'm logging clips and realized I only selected 1 audio track instead of 2. Now I have about 50 clips I need to change from 1A to 2A. I read in discussions that if I do "Modify Clip Settings" I can make the change easily.
Only problem is, I have no option for "Clip Settings" under "Modify" in FCP 4?
    Am I out of luck?

To add to D Gilmore's post, I think when you go to batch capture you can specify to use the settings in the log and capture window rather than those associated with the clip. Be sure and do a test on one clip before capturing all your clips.
If this doesn't work, you can export a batch list and then modify it in a wordprocessing program.

  • Editing audio tracks simultaneously

I'm spending way too much time editing my video's two audio tracks (A1a, A1b) the same way twice. As an example I want to set keys on my audio to bring down the volume in places and up in other places. What I've been having to do is set keys on track A1a and do the same exact thing on track A1b. I don't want to link the two audio clips together with the video, but only link the two audio tracks together so what ever I do to one audio track will be applied to the other. However, even when I link the video to the audio tracks and adjust the audio level to one track it doesn't set that level on the sister track. I'm assuming this is something pretty simple, but I can't seem figure it out. I can get what I want by doing it twice but as you know time is a commodity.
    Thanks

You could set the two clips as a Stereo Pair (Option L), or just make the needed changes on one clip, then when you're done, copy it and use Paste Attributes->Levels to the other clip.

  • No sound from edited audio track?

This may be a very simple fix but I am unable to figure it out. When I add a new audio track in the arrange window and start chopping it up into separate waveforms, when I go to play back the audio I get no sound! I don't recall logic 8 doing this to me a few weeks ago but it just started doing this! Any ideas? Thanks for any input =)

I have the same problem. When I import the video and then hit the play button (bottom left) I get no audio. If I skim the curser over the film clips, I get audio, but when I hit Play in either window (edited film, unedited film) I get NO audio. Can anyone help??

  • How to combine multiple edited audio tracks in multicam?

I have three camera angles each of which has audio.  I would like to combine the audio from all three cameras but the challenge is that I want to edit various points in each audio track separately and synchronized with my cut points from one angle to another.  My plan was to edit the audio  in each of the 3 tracks then detach the audio from each track and recombine  by overlaying them into one audio track.  However I found that I cannot detach audio from tracks within the angle viewer where I've made my audio edits.  Is there a way to do this or is there a work around?

I found a clumsy work around.  I used Audio Hijack Pro from Rogue Amoeba to capture the audio from FCP X  of all three camera angles.  From the Angle Editor I enabled the audio monitor for each angle and in the Timeline played all three tracks while Audio Hijack Pro recorded the combination of the thee.  This allowed me to capture all of my audio edits from the Angle Editor from each of the three tracks.  I then copied the combined audio file to the multicam project, aligned it with the multicam audio and reduced the multicam audio to essentially zero, leaving only the combined 3-track audio  that I had added.
This approach got me through the project but there must be a better way to accomplish this. Any suggestions?

  • Context (right click) link to edit audio track with Audition is greyed out in Premiere Pro CS6

I have reported this previously in the forum and I've seen some other posts on this and was hoping that there is either a solution or workaround for this real workflow issue. I read that this is a known bug inserted with the update to 6.0.1. It is now 6.0.3 and time to fix this bug please.
Adobe, if you're listening, this is all about workflow. It's disruptive to a workflow situation where deadlines are important and it shouldn't be a difficult programming problem to fix. It worked before. Make it work again. That's not asking a lot from a customer who has been a Premiere user since the 90s.
    Thank you.

It does work for most.  So we have to find out why it isn't for you.  (Though admittedly, I'm not even sure what questions to ask trying to track down the cause.)

  • Editing and Exporting Audio Track Only

Is it possible to just edit and export the audio track from a project that contains video and audio? I turned off the video track, and was able to make edits on the audio track but when I export the edited audio track entire unedited audio track is exported.

That did it. I didn't have the audio timeline material selected as the active window.
    Many thanks.

  • Replacing an audio track without re-encoding the video

I'm new to Audition CC so apologies for the basic question. I originally asked this in the Premiere Pro forum but I think it's more an Audition question..  I have AVCHD home video (MTS video with AC3 stereo audio) and have found I can clean up the audio, for example in speeches, very well in Audition. Is there a way to just replace the MTS's orginal audio track without re-encoding the video (which it seems I have to, if I do this via Premiere Pro)? In some cases the videos are poorly lit and any re-encoding makes them look noticeably worse than the original. In any event the video does not need re-encoding, I just need to replace the audio. Maybe I need to export the cleaned-up audio from Audition and use some other program to replace the audio in the original MTS file? Is that called re-muxing?  Thanks in advance for any help.

    Thanks Bob and Ryclark.
Bob, our aim is to copy these videos onto USB sticks, for our family to watch on our various home TVs, from a media player such as WD Home TV, a media PC or a laptop via HDMI cable. I expect the original MTS files, with cleaned up audio, will be fine. Media Info shows these to be video: AVC format, variable bit rate, 16.0 max bit rate, 1920x1080 pixels, 25.000 fps, 8 bit, interlaced; audio: AC3 format, 256 Kbps bit rate, 2 channels, 48.0 KHz sampling rate, 16 bits bit depth. I'm keen to avoid re-encoding the video, and it seems I can. My initial test worked and tonight (I'm in Australia) I'll test further... I can edit the AC3 audio in Audition, export it as a new AC3 with the same format as original, then use some other non-Adobe program to replace the original audio track with the new one, without touching the video.
Ryclark, I believe you are right. My novice-level understanding is that the process of separating the components of a video file such as my MTS file (video, audio and possibly others) into separate files is 'de-muxing' and putting them back together is re-muxing. Audition can save or export the original or edited audio track of my MTS file to a separate file so I assume that's like a specific audio de-mux. However I don't think Adobe products can re-mux without re-encoding the video (slow, larger resulting file size, worse video quality!), so I need some other program to replace my MTS file's audio with the new/edited audio.
So far I've found the free-ware Avidemux can do it but past experience is that free-ware can be a bit flaky or over time not as bullet-proof as a good/proven commercial product, so I'll look a bit further - or does someone in this forum know of such a product? HD Video Converter seems to be an option but it looks a bit amateurish.
By the way, if anyone is after a cut/join program to remove unwanted parts of a video without re-encoding the whole thing (ie. fast, same file size and unchanged video quality) I found Avidemux (free) only works on whole frames (GOP?) and the joins can have a little 'flick', whereas for $40-$50 a program like Fame Ring Smart Cutter for MTS videos (the Sony vidcam home video files I'm interested in) is frame accurate (it only re-encodes around the cut points) and works very well (smooth cut/join points). Smart Cutter doesn't do AVI videos (for my PC screen-recording videos) but I found SolveigMM Video Splitter Home Edition works well with those (not so well with my MTS files).

  • Adding multiple audio tracks to a multicam file

I am editing a multi cam production- and have 8 different audio tracks- separate from the movie files. I have made a multi cam file but any ideas on how to add all 8 tracks of audio to this multi cam file- then edit- and then question no. 2: how do I then export all edited audio tracks separately for my sound engineer to mix them? Thanks a lot

Hi Tom- thanks for your response   I´m not quite sure if you get me right... I have made a multicam file- consisting of 4 cameras- and now I want to add 8 audio tracks that are not connected to any of the cameras- but that were recorded seperately- and have all these 8 tracks lying underneath all the camera angles- being synced up with the cameras internal mics- but I want to edit the 8 audio tracks and finally export them. Thanks

  • Overwrite edits - audio problems

    Hi
Everytime I do an overwrite edit onto my timeline sequence I have audio problems. For example the current edit has 4 audio tracks connected to the video, and the new edit only has 2, but when I do an overwrite edit audio tracks 3 and 4 keep the old content. Is there a way around this? Would appreciate any help.
    Thanks

I'm afraid there's not a way for 2 tracks to overwrite 4. (funny too, you'd think there was a way) You'll have to lift them out...
Shouldn't happen a lot to you though if you get your base 2 track audio done before you add any more audio tracks. Such as locking your video and sync audio then add effects or music...

  • When I record an audio track, there is a waveform. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing?

When I record an audio track using Logic Pro X, there is a visible waveform which appears as I record. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is still there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing? And can I do something to view it after it has disappeared? Anyone know the anser?

    In Logic:
    Preferences/Audio Set Recording Delay to 0 <zero>
This should always be set to zero unless a specific set of circumstances exist and you're audio drivers do not report position correctly.
On occasion, usually when importing a Logic 9 project, Logic-X randomly changes this to a negative/positive number.  It's actually a bug in Logic, as it should always display the waveform.

correction needs to be made to step #14, I typed:
    14) Point to the start or end one of the clips, when you see the icon showing arrows going either way, right click and drag your clips to roughly match up with the timeline selection, then zoom in further and adjust the clip start and end points to match up exactly with the timeline selection start and endpoints.
Here is the correction, THE CORRECTED PARTS ARE CAPITALIZED:
