Editing between big arrangemts without logic reloading sample data

Hi clever people. I am a power user of Logic but am ashamed to say that I still have never worked this out.....
Lets say I have a big arrangement going with tons of samples, and want to drag and drop a few regions from another arrangement, is there a way of doing this without all the samples etc reloading every time I swap between the different arrangements?
Thanks,
NJHW

Disable Core audio in your audio preferences before switching songs. Then, when you do switch songs, it only takes a second or two to happen.
Since you are only dragging regions, you don't need to hear anything while you are doing this, so the audio engine can be disabled.

  • Big trouble syncing edits between two computers

I have two big issues with syncing edits between my iMac (computer A) and Macbook Pro (computer B). My workflow has been as follows:
Import photo shoot onto computer A as DNG into master catalog. Do some edits. Export all DNGs as "Original" from shoot to desktop and copy over to computer B. Import shoot folder in master catalog on computer B, edits are held. Finish editing the entire shoot on B and export folder as a catalog without exporting the DNG files. Back on computer A, import to shoot folder from another catalog to sync edits and metadata changes.
    My issues:
    1. When edits actually do sync back on A, everything syncs EXCEPT for virtual copies, they are no where to be found. Even when exporting from B as a catalog, the dialogue box says "79 virtual copies to be exported." They just never show up back on computer A.
    2. Biggest issue. On computer A, I work in one master catalog. Some shoot folders are still on the internal hard drive while most are housed on a Drobo. It seems the reason why edits will never sync back (changes arent found when importing from another catalog) is because LR4 is only looking on the INTERNAL disk of computer A. The import seems to not look for the photos that are housed on the Drobo. I think this because whenever I try to import back to A, LR4 tries to create a new folder in the catalog on the internal disk. The below screenshot shows what I mean. 0512-SpeedyFamily is the shoot Im editing between A & B, but LR4 tries to import them back onto the internal disk (upper portion of folders) and created the ?2012 folder.
FYI - I am running LR 4.2 on both machines, just havent installed the latest update yet.

There's a simpler way to do this: synchronizing software. The one I'm using is called SmartSync Pro. I think it's Windows only, but there must be alternatives for Mac.
I have two machines, at work and home, containing identical copies of the Lr catalog (and of course all other files), using a portable pocket-size drive to transport files back and forth. Once it's set up it's a one-click operation to copy new and altered files only, stick the thing in my pocket and go home. Then connect the drive, click again, and I'm ready to pick up where I left off.
The one provision is that the folder structure is identical on the two machines, and, being Windows, also drive letters. But you don't necessarily have to synchronize a whole drive, any folder(s) will do.
Another advantage is solid backup: three copies of every file, one always off-site.

  • Logic reloading all samples on every save?

I've seen this issue in the past but I don't think I've ever seen a definitive solution.
On the session I'm working on right now, every time I save the session, Logic reloads all samples used by all instruments. This includes both EXS samples and third party stuff like East West.
I've had this issue various times in the past and I'm not sure what finally fixed it. Anyone know a way to make this go away for good? Obviously I want to be able to save as much as possible, but every save ties up the app for a couple minutes - major bummer.

Mike, I remember seeing posts like this one before, and I'm also having trouble remembering exactly what it was that helped. I do remember that it has to do with where Logic thinks the data is saved, and where it things you want the data to be saved. Try doing a 'save as' on a project, and tick the box that says 'save assets,' and include only the audio files. This will tell the project to access all of the samples from their original locations and perhaps the it won't try to save them elsewhere every time. If that doesn't work, try a save as again, and this time include everything, and see if that does the trick. Still doesn't work? Try save as again, and DON'T include assets.
The other thing I'd try would be to reassign the recording folder to where your audio is. This may have been the fix for when projects were trying to save audio files each time, and not sampler files. But it's worth a shot.
Sorry I can't be more conclusive, but I remember that when this starts happening, Logic is confused about where the samples are and where you want them to be, and so taking these steps might clear up this confusion.
    Good Luck!

  • Why isn't the edit button not showing in my ESX24 sampler?

why isn't the edit button not showing in my ESX24 sampler?

Is that during installation when you see the two icons.. the one on the left looking like a Garageband guitar icon, the one on the right like the Logic Pro platimum record icon?
Yes.. that one.. with the choice to click on which option you want/are coming from...
p.s. I'll probably aquire a Mac Mini this fall then upgrade.... I mean repurchase!
I think I managed to grab one of the last of the 2011 refurb'ed MMS's.... at that super low price Apple were selling them for... before they bumped it up and now, they seem to have none left at all at any price
However, just in case, I have found this site really useful at keeping track of Apple's refurb stock... and pricing

  • Duet makes noise after switching between finder audio and Logic

    Hi
My Duet makes noise after switching between "finder audio" and "Logic", In other words i would play a mp3 in the finder and when returning to Logic all my audio sounds like the "lo-fi" RTAS free plug digidesign gives away now.
This is happening on a White *iMac 24"*
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac6,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.33 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM61.0093.B07
    SMC Version (system): 1.10f3
    MacOsx 10,5,7

Does this happen every single time? The same thing happens to me every once in a while. I just close Logic and Maestro and unplug the Duet. Then, in this order, plug in the Duet, wait for it to click, load Maestro, load Logic. Works every time.
Edit: It does only seem to happen when I switch from Logic and the audio output from the Duet to internal and then come back quickly. I don't think it's an issue with the Duet hardware itself.

Most storage experts agree on the Hitachi 2.5"
Hitachi is the winner in hard drive reliability survey:
Hitachi manufacturers the safest and most reliable hard drives, according to the Storelab study. Of the hundreds of Hitachi hard drives received, not a single one had failed due to manufacturing or design errors. Adding the highest average lifespans and the best relationship between failures and market share, Hitachi can be regarded as the winner.

  • Direct connection between 2 clients without any configuration!

I wan to make a system act like hamachi or logmein (websever & clients).
I have a webserver on the internet and two client from different networks connected to this webserver, now i want to make directly connection between these clients without any configuration on router. I think it is possible because all infomation about clients network could be got from http request which they send to server. But i don't know what exact fields in the header of http request that i need and how to set them to create connection between clients. I need some ideas about this issue.

I know, so if you want to use a remote control tool such as: VNC, remote desktop you must config on router or server. But even if you had a proxy(permit port 80) when you type www.sun.com you will get data from it, this data was sent from Sun to your proxy and in some way the data was return to your browser. So i think if we have enough information(it come from the webserver) we could init a connection between 2 client. An example of this is Hamachi.
At first 2 hamachi clients connect to a server of hamachi, when they have their id, a tunnel between 2 clients was established without any configuration on proxy(certainly that server did not deny port of hamachi). From now 2 clients can exchange data not through the server. The same in logmein, you can remote desktop any where with zero configuration, but the speed is guarantee because they contact to server for query information, but the data was transmited directly. Sorry if i make mistake. It doesn't work the way you think.
There is a proxy or you have to have one side listening with a ServerSocket and have ports opened as needed. You can't create a Socket connection on server A between clients B and C and then pass it off to clients B and C and magically they just talk to each other.
It does not work that way. It is impossible to do it that way.

  • No destructive editing using installed plug-ins in the sample editor.

It is a shame that it looks like there still is no destructive editing using installed plug-ins in the sample editor. Seems very obvious to me that this feature should be included in Logic. Very disappointing. I’m assuming that you will be able to do this via Soundtrack Pro, but that’s just another layer added to the work flow.

    fermusic wrote:
in any case there are no reason to use Soundtrack pro for make a destructive editing with AU plugins.
While everything you say is absolutely correct, in terms of being able to do this within Logic itself, there are times when using Soundtrack Pro does make more sense for destructive printing of AU FX's.
High pass filtering a vocal track with a lot of plosives comes to mind. It's easier to destructively apply the AU high pass filter on just the plosive syllable, or waveform in STP, than in Logic.
Same goes for some extreme cases of De-essing.
With STP selected as your external audio editor, it's very easy to use from within Logic. The two co-exist quite gracefully.
I'd personally love to see Logic adapt some of STP's destructive capabilities, and I'd actually be surprised if we didn't see that at some point in it's evolution.
But I say none of this to dismiss what you've generously offered here. The information you provided in your first post is important for the Logic novice to be aware of.

  • How to create the reation between two tables without creating relation

    Hi,
    I have three tables.( A,B and C)
    I created relation between A,B and A,C.
I want to create the relation between B,C without using realtion in oracle forms.
    Please do the needful.

ok, now i understand your problem. It is a case of one-many-many relation between three blocks.
In this situation what i personally follow that - save records in between when it ask for a commit. And i shall advice you to follow that only. This is the safe and easy method.
    Otherwise,
1> make your third block a non-database block.
2> When finish entering/modifying each data set related to 2nd block - insert/update/delete the data grammatically into a temporary table. and after that clear the 3rd block.
3> you need to reload the record in 3rd block from the temporary table when you move to a record of 2nd block that has already been entered.
4> now when you finally commit your form the insert/update/delete record from the temporary table into the final 3rd table.
Now follow which ever steps is suitable for you.

  • Logic reloads project on save

    Hello
Well the subject says it all. Logic reloads the current project every time I save. Not good when doing lots of edits/saves. Any ideas?
    Regards

Yes it is enhancement package 3 & there is no additional fees to be paid for this. You need to activate OPS_PS_CI_1 & then in project builder you will have an additional save button, which would meet your need.
If you're not sure or aware of how to activate the above business function, take help of your technical person or your system admin.

  • Garritan Jazz/Big Band and Logic

Hello. I've mostly used Jam Packs with Logic, I'm new to using another player within Logic, Kontakt is what comes with Garritan Jazz and Big Band. The issue I'm having is when you load a multi/ensemble from Kontakt into Logic, I can't seem to control the volumes separately. It seems to show up in the Logic mixer as "Inst 1" -- is this making sense? Sometimes I'm confused by all the tabs/choices in the mixer section too...but that's probably a different issue. Anyway, if you have any thoughts, I'd love to hear them. Thanks. Bob

The bottom line is that has been one of Logic's most glaring "missing features" for years, in my book.
The problem stems from the fact that Logic can't separate the channels (or 'channelize') the volume and pan controls for the individual MIDI channels of a multitimbral virtual instrument. By contrast, Logic has no problem doing this with external MIDI modules. And other DAW's - I'm told - have no problem separating the volume commands for individual channels of a virtual instrument. But Logic "Pro" still can not.
So you have to set up a bunch of virtual 'aux' channels, route the various VI channels to the separate AUX's, then control or automate the volume of those aux channels separately from the 'master' VI. Personally I can't believe people don't complain more about what a needlessly awkward workaround this is, all to achieve the same basic functionality we've had in MIDI for almost 20 years now .
But that's the way it's always been done on Logic, and from the looks of it, there's no reason to expect it to change anytime soon.
Search the forums (or Kontakt's manual or Garritan's site) for info on how to set up numerous auxiliary outs, and that should get you going. There are also numerous tutorials and how-to's on this forum and others, which you can probably find if you search "multitimbral aux".
Lastly, some folks resort to automating volumes within the plugins, ie. adjusting the channel volume sliders on Kontakt's internal mixer while the sequence runs, then editing that automation later in Logic. Again, I think it's a kludgey workaround. But Kludgey Workarounds have always been a big part of the Logic Pro 'experience!'
    Enjoy.

  • HR - Programming without Logical database

    Hi All
I have some doubts, I am mainly using Logical database while creting Reports in HR, if I want to use HR function modules and BAPI do they use logical database,
question is when we have to do HR programming with Logical database and when without Logical database.
    cheers
    AJ

    Hi Srinivas
If I am doing some Enhancement on ESS/ MSS , using Webdypros, I cant define Logical database anywhere, so I have to use Function modules or BAPIs ........???
But usually in Reporting you can define the Logical database in the Program attributes.........so I think Logical database can only be used when it can be defined in the program attributes........if you have any other scenarios........please let me know
    regards

  • Can the mac mini i7, 8gigs ram,  edit avchd 1920/1080p without having to convert it?

Can the mac mini i7, 8gigs ram,  external FW800 drive, edit avchd 1920/1080p without having to convert it?
Can you scrub the TL at 5x speed and not have it stutter?

By default it converts it to ProRes 422, though you can specify other codecs.
    Why convert it?
Although FCP X can handle AVCHD natively, AVCHD being a "delivery" codec is not really suitable for editing.
ProRes is designed specifically for ease of editing especially with complex effects and colour correction.
If your editing is going to be fairly basic you can get away with leaving your media as AVCHD.
Note also that an hour of ProRes is around 50GB !

  • What the heck are you people doing by synchronizing info. between my computers without notifying me?

    ''dupe of - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/977896''
I've been a Firefox user since 2005 and had once sworn allegiance to Firefox but not any more. As of this moment I will never use Firefox ever again. I've been using Firefox since 2005 and have been using it as the default browser on my three desktops and laptop but it seems today is the last day I am ever going to use Firefox.
I am absolutely livid having just noticed that you synchronize information, data, between my computers without taking the absolutely necessary, responsible, proper steps to notify your users exactly what you are doing and not by the derelict, utterly inexcusable manner in which you have a pop-up do what you don't seem to have the moral sense to do in a responsible, upstanding manner.
You've been slipping for years, having made compromises, skating on morally thin ice, alienating Firefox users in all sorts of ethically questionable ways, but this, this is beyond the pale.
Firefox, you are out of my life forever.

hello mediamayven, without you actively setting up a sync account and pairing all individual devices to this account, there won't be any synchronising going on by mozilla at all! i don't know where you're getting the impression from that it would be anything other than that...

Can you edit a pdf document without exporting it into a word document?

    Hi sylvias99766822,
You can if you have Acrobat. If you don't, feel free to give it a try. You can download a 30-day trial from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.
Keep in mind, though, that Acrobat isn't intended to be a word processor. So, while you can make adjustments to text and graphics, if you need to do a major overhaul of the text in the document, it's best to go back to the source document and edit the content there.
    Best,
