Editing & deleting images question

hi. i'll preface this by saying i may need to tweak my workflow in regards to editing. in any case, so far the way i've edited was by creating a collection. once i add my selects to the collection, i still have tons of unwanted images left in the folder i would be editing from. is there a simple, quick way to erase the outs?
thanks,
april

tina,
i was thinking my question might not be clear. what i am doing is uploading images into a folder in my lightroom catalog. i then go to the folder and drag my selects into a new collection.
i realize that the collection is virtual. i'm basically using the collection as a way to group my selects to show clients. my question is this: is there an easy way, once i have my selects in a collection, to somehow keep these images in the folder (which is to say, they would remain in their location on the hard drive) and discard the images i do not want (that i haven't included in the collection i created)?
sorry for the confusion. maybe i should be editing differently?
thanks,
april

Hi I have a question about shooting in Raw with my Canon EOS 6d.
I'm in the process of learning photography and my goal was to start shooting in raw.
I have Photoshop CS5. When I tried to edit my images in raw I received an error message stating, "The photoshop camera raw plug-in did not recognize the format. If these files are from a camera, you may need to update your camera raw plug in."
In researching the issue I read that to edit in raw you need a camera model requirement of at least 7.3 which only works with CS6. My version of CS5 is 6.0.0.205. Being new to all this I see that my options are to upgrade to CS6 or convert by using DNG converter and paying a monthly fee. Two things I know nothing about and don't know which is would be more beneficial.
I'd appreciate any advise on which route to go and how upgrade and what it may cost. THANKS in advance!

In researching the issue I read that to edit in raw you need a camera model requirement of at least 7.3 which only works with CS6.
That is correct. Your camera was first supported by Camera Raw 7.3. Camera Raw 7.3 will not work with CS5. You need CS6 or CC.
Being new to all this I see that my options are to upgrade to CS6 or convert by using DNG converter and paying a monthly fee. Two things I know nothing about and don't know which is would be more beneficial.
I'd appreciate any advise on which route to go and how upgrade and what it may cost.
It all depends on your preferred workflow and your budget.
Using the DNG converter is free. There is no monthly fee. You use the converter to convert all Raw files from the EOS 6D to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5. That's an extra step every time - every photo. Some people don't like the extra step. Others don't mind.
Camera raw, DNG | Adobe Photoshop CC
Or you can upgrade to CS6 (non-Cloud) and pay the upgrade fee
    Creative Suite 6
Or join the Cloud and pay the monthly fee
Or join the Photoshop Photography Program (US9.99/month) and get PS CC+LR

  • When I am finished editing an image in Lightroom, what files or versions should I have in my database of images?

When I am finished editing an image in Lightroom, what files should I have in my Library?  I start with a RAW file or a tiff scan from film. I label that "A" as the archived file. I make a virtual copy to work on in the Develop module. When I am done, I save a file as a Print file with dimensions of the print.  Since Lightroom is non-destructive, do I need to save any other versions?  For instance, in Photoshop since the crop is destructive,
I edit an uncropped version and do the crop when I am working on the Print version.  What should I have for the most flexibility over time in Lightroom?
I use Lightroom CC on a IMAC desktop.  My photos are on a separate hard drive and are also backed up offline.  Im running OSX10.9.4.

You don't need to make a virtual copy before you edit the photo (this is optional, but most people don't bother as its extra work with little or no benefit). EXCEPTION: If you are doing multiple crops of the image, you would need virtual copies in that case, created after all other editing is completed.
You can't "save" from Lightroom, you can "export". (It's a terminology thing) You would need to export a photo at the desired dimensions for printing, but there's no need to retain this exported photo, you can consider it temporary and delete it once the print has been made, knowing that you can always re-create it exactly from Lightroom if you need it.
So to answer the question in your title, all you need to retain on your hard disk is your original image (and in the EXCEPTION case where you have multiple crops of the image, you would retain the multiple virtual copies in Lightroom).

  • Deleting images on ipad

I am not sure I understand how ipad treats images based on where they have come from i.e. taken by ipad or copied from a PC/MBP, downloaded from the net directly onto the ipad. There are a few 100 images on my ipad now and I am trying to organize them into albums. I tried to follow the steps/guidelines provided in the ipad manual, but not one step written there matches with what I see on the ipad.
    1. Some albums are deletable, some are not: When I select the 'Albums' tab and then click 'Edit', some albums show an 'x' in a black circle at their top left corner, some do not. Is the 'x' to be clicked to delete an album? If yes, how do I delete the other albums which do not have an 'x' on them. If not, what is the process to delete an album. (Note: As per ipad manual, to delete an album, Tap edit and then Tap a '-' in a red circle, however I do not see the red circle on clicking edit)
    2. Same question as above, but now at an image level. Some images are deletable, some are not: From the 'Photos' view (or even while viewing photos from inside an album), some images have the trash can at the top right, whereas some do not. How do I delete images that do not have the trash can.
Beyond the above items, I have a larger question on the usage of the term 'Syncing'. How do I transfer/copy images from my MBP to the ipad (i mean transfer, and not sync). And after transfering them, I usually edit/reorganize images in the ipad. Next time when I connect my MBP to the ipad, I want to be able to choose what I transfer from the MBP to the ipad (or vice versa). I dont want iTunes to automatically sync the two devices to their earleir state, and hence undo all the changes I made in the images in my ipad. Is this possible? How do I do it.

Another way to import. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Edit hidden images in layer

    Hello,
I build a site in Dreamweaver 8. It contains a layer with
    hidden images by using Behaviors.
I want to edit these images in Contribute CS3. Deleting some
    and add new ones.
When I open the webpage in Contribute, I only can see the
image on top. Is it possible to edit all the (hidden) images under
    the top-image?
    Thank you!

check your links... do they show the image links on your
    local drive? (like
    C:\images\....)
If so, make sure they are site relative and try again.
Do your images have any spaces or special characters in their
    file names?
    remove those and re-put them.
Did you actually put the images on the remote server? (Yeah,
    dumb question
but I'm searching for possible answers)
Other than that, post a link to your site so we can look at
    the code.

  • On an iPad with iTunes, do you know if you can edit/delete all your tunes on your device with a "clear all" button rather than having to delete a song one by one like you have to do on an iPhone if not synching via a MacBook/ PC with iTunes account?

I'm signed up to the Cloud and itunes match - the whole game. But I cam getting annoyed with having to delete songs one by one on my iPhone once dowloaded from the cloud as I only have a 16GB phone....yes I listen to music non-stop!  So, I am thinking about getting an iPAD as I rarely use my MacBook Pro for anything other than surfing and music now...  so the question is:  "On an iPad with iTunes, do you know if you can edit/delete all your tunes on your device with a "clear all" button rather than having to delete a song one by one like you have to do on an iPhone (if not synching via a MacBook/ PC with iTunes account where I know you can clear down and refill with ease)????

    Have you tried

  • Cant figure out how to edit raw images

I am using a windows computer and have Photoshop elements 10. I'm trying to edit raw images but every time I try to open a RAW file it says that its the wrong type of file. I tried downloading Camera raw. Elements 10 is compatible according to adobes' site, up to camera raw update 6.7, and that's the first version that my camera (Sony a-57) is compatible with camera raw. I followed the troubleshooting help and ended up deleting and re-installing Photoshop elements but it still says that its the wrong type of file and wont let me open it.

Which version of windows are you using?
This is the camera raw 6.7 updater you tried?
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
I'd try running the above 6.7 camera raw plugin updater from the linked page above.

Perhaps you don't want to hear from me, I don't know.
I'll answer just this one little question.  Try to get your mind around what color management does, I promise it does make sense (outside of unexplained problems on particular computers).
You want to save your web image with the sRGB profile embedded because some Internet browsers are color managed, and with an embedded profile it's more likely someone will see your image colors just as you intended.
The assumption is that a lowly windows user with a cheap monitor and Internet Explorer will be seeing any image you save as "roughly" sRGB anyway.  Tagging the image with sRGB only affects those with color-managed browsers.
You're looking for the most possible consistency for the viewing audience.

  • Need help editing scanned images of old photo album pages PSE 9

Before I begin this project, I thought I'd get some advice from someone who has undertaken a similar project.  I have three photo albums from the 50's and 60's.  The albums were made by my mother who mounted the photos (mostly black and white but some color photos) on construction paper (of various colors) using the corner holders or glue.  She hand cut the construction paper so each page is not a perfect rectangle ( about 11" tall, 8.5" wide).  The pages were punched and put into a three-ring binder.
She added text to the edge of the photo and/or to the construction paper.  Each page contains one to 6 photos and text.  Each album has about 120 pages.  I want to keep the notes on the construction paper so I scanned each page into a TIF files, 400 dpi and stored the images in a separate folder for each volume.
I use (poorly) PSE 9.  I see it has a auto straighten/crop feature that can be used one photo at a time.  I tried the divide scanned images function and that did not fully separate all images on the page and also created an image for stray objects on the page such as an unused corner holder.  (I know those things have a better name but it escapes me now.)
I plan to create photo books for my siblings.  I am now thinking of cropping the image of each page (rather than each photo on the page) into a uniform size, adjusting levels, contrast and sharpness, saving this image to a JPEG file, and using these edited JPEG images to create the photo book.  Since each page was hand-cut, there will areas of white where one page was torn or cut smaller than another page.  Some pages will have blanks where old photos have been lost leaving behind only the corner things.  It won't be perfect but it will be an image of the album as it exists today.
    My questions are:
The pages are about 11 by 8.5.  Does anyone know a photo service that prints photo albums in a portrait layout in this size?  I  have been unable to find one; it looks like most online photo books are wider rather than taller.
Let's assume I use a company such as Shutterfly that offers a 12x12 format.  I assume it would be better to edit the images in PSE9 rather than any online software.  What should I do to keep the proportions in the current images true but make the image fit a 12x12 page, for example?
IS there any other editing software anyone can recommend that will speed this up, hopefully a software that would take multiple photos at one time, auto-straighten and auto crop to a set size?  And also auto contrast/level/sharp.  If I could use such auto features on these images and then go back and adjust the photos that did not play well with the auto features, that would save me time.
I appreciate anyone's input.  I dread doing this but we have one set of photos and 5 siblings so it has to be done.  Thanks!

    Hi,
Mentioning your issues one by one:
    1) PSE does not have any portrait Photobook available, so your thought was the best way to get the work done is by choosing the 12x12 - shutterfly one.
    2) PSe does a good job of editing the images. You can set your images of approx. 11x8  size to fit to the 12x12 page. Just choose a one photo page Layout for the page and then right click on the image to " Fit photo in the frame".
    3) If more edits are required for the image, you can easily go to Advanced mode and edit your photos, layouts, move the frames, images or add effects to the images.
    4) Photo book creation sure takes time. because, you want it to be the best. I am sure PSE would help you best here.
Go ahead and create you photobook. Inc ase you get stuck somewhere, you can always post here to get help!

  • Allow user to access /edit/delete/add specific items in list

    Hi
    I have one custom list.
every month department head is creating some activity because of which some items are getting added in that list pragmatically.
    like-
    departmentID item1
    item2
    DEPT001 item001
    item002
    DEPT001 item003
    item001
    DEPT002 item004
    item001
After that User want to edit or delete or add new entries only related to their department only.
How can allow user to edit/delete or add entries (full control) only related to his department in the same list?
How can I assign users for this?
Should I create another list having department id and user mapping?
    please suggest any soln.

    The flow is like,
User(Dept head/department user)will select department from drop down and clik on button to add some entries against the department.
once the entries done he just click on save button.
after some time if department head/department user want to add/edit/delete some entries against his department then he should able to view only his deapartment entries.
Also the email is generated to his manager.
So my question is how should I allow user to view his own entires only which should be available for him to add/edit/delete.?
If I create one list of department  and on adding the entries against each department I will add departmentID for every entry so that I can filter them by department.
but how to allow users for those entries? If I added user for each entry and if any department user changed then I have to change his name from all entries for that department. If the entries are more than 50 or 100 then it will be very difficuelt to handle.
Also for multiple users for single department this is very difficuelt to provide access.
is there any alternate solution for it?

  • Text editable in images in flash Please help

    Hello
    Dear All Friends
I want to make text editable in images in flash to get copy from text
    can i Make this
    and other question please
can i convert text in image in flash to normal string ?
    please help
    Thank you

Images do not store text data in any isolateable manner, it is comprised of just pixels like anything else in the image.  You would need to develop some form of complicated text recognition program to be able to extract text from an image, and I don't believe anyone has.

  • Restrict editing/deleting item when approval workflow is in progress

I have a list for contributors to submit documents and activate an approval workflow. The requirement is to restrict all users from editing and deleting the document once the workflow is activated. After the workflow is completed, if the document
is approved, all users also should not be able to edit/delete the item; if the document is rejected, users should regain the permission to edit/delete the item.
I had no problem with restricting edit/delete permission after the document is approved by adding a Declare Record action after the content approval status is set to approved in SPD.
However, the workflow was not able to complete when I added a Declare Record action in the "When the Task Process Starts" step and an Undeclare Record action in the very beginning of the "When the task process completes" step to restrict users from editing/deleting
the item when the workflow is in progress.
After I activated the workflow and approved the item, the Workflow status shows Approved but the Approval status still shows Pending. In addition, the "Approval Workflow Task is complete" (shown in the following image) is missing in the workflow history,
which seems to me that the workflow task is never completed.
Please advise me the proper way to restrict users from editing/deleting the document while the workflow is in progress. Thank you.

then use SPD to customize the task process to lock them out upon starting and give them rights again upon rejection.

  • Output jpeg looks different than edited RAW image

I just got CS6 and have been working on some new images in RAW.  Once I finished the editing I wanted to do in RAW, I saved the image as a jpeg, then clicked "open image" at the bottom of the RAW window.  The image that came up in Photoshop looked nothing like my edited RAW image.  It's as if none of the edits ever occurred.  I've looked on the internet and tried figuring it out on my own.  I'm at a loss and would appreciate the help.

Noel - first of all, thanks much for taking the time to respond to my question.  You helped me realize (and I should have realized this last night) that my question and problem statement lacked a lot of detail.  I'm new to Photoshop, but I've learned a good lesson.  Here's some more details:  I use a Nikon D700, WIndows XP OS, and CS6.  After taking the images from my memory card directly into Bridge, I can see that the images look "good", meaning they match what I was seeing on my camera display.  The metadata for my photo of interest states that the color profile is RGB, and I assume this is sRGB?  I open the .nef file directly into CS6 RAW.  Once again the image in RAW looks just like it did in Bridge and on my camera display.  I like how it looks in general, but I make the manipulations I want in RAW (removing blemishes, softening skin, etc).  Prior to saving the manipulated image, I click on the Workflow Options link below the image and choose 8-bit, sRGB, then save it as a .jpeg.  Photoshop's color space has also previously been set to sRGB, so the two match.  If I open the image from RAW directly into Photoshop or open the newly created .jpeg from Bridge into Photoshop, the image no longer looks like what I saw in RAW.  The image looks sort of hazy, the black background that was completely black in the RAW image is now visible in the Photoshop image, and the model's skin, which looked nice and smooth in RAW, now looks pixelated.
You suggestions about color management make sense, and I bet I'm still making some sort of mistake in that regard.  Any ideas?
