Editing/deleting Music Info on My Ipod

I'm new to the whole ipod thing - teething problems:
Firstly, I get a little confused that some of the music in my Itunes doesn't play when I click on it saying the original file can't be found. When I got my ipod I pretty much got all the music off my old Mp3 and through Itunes onto my Ipod. So all my music is there on the ipod, but not in the itunes library?
Secondly is there anyway to look at a list of everything on my ipod (like the itunes library, but for the actual ipod itself) where I can edit the information on my ipod. I add my music manually, and want to edit some of the details, so I can't just change the details in the library and then sync it...as stuff I don't want on the ipod would transfer.
Also how do I delete music I don't want or duplicates off the ipod without deleting everything/having to use the sync option?
I apologise if the above are ridiculous questions, but I really am having a hard time and searching through the manuals/help topics doesn't really bring up the kind of instruction/help I need?
Many thanks.

  • Deleting music from my iPhone/iPod Touch

How can I delete music from my iPhone/iPod Touch on iTunes? My original computer broke and I connect my devices to my laptop but I cannot delete to make room even when I activate my account to the laptop. It tells me non of my music is connected to the laptop and basically if I want room, I gotta restore my device but I don't want to lose all the stuff I have on it. Is there another way to delete music from the devices itself? I can delete podcast but not music...that's kind of dumb.

you can't.  The iPhone will only synch with ONE iTunes library at a time.

How do I delete the music off of my iPod?

To delete you songs in iPod and not in iTunes library, you have to put iTunes Device sync to Manually Manage ticked as below,
the example, is for iPod Touch, but applicable to iPod Classic.
    To sync your content manually:
Connect your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to your computer and select your device in iTunes (below Devices)
Click the Summary button and select “Manually manage music and videos” (below Options).
    Select a category (below Library).
    Do any of the following:
To add items to your device, drag videos, playlists, artists, genres, and albums to your iPod, iPhone, or iPad (below Devices).
To delete a song or selection of songs from your device, select the song/s and press the Delete key.Removing a song from your device doesn’t delete it from your iTunes library.
Before you disconnect your device, click the Eject button .

  • Deleting music from friend's iPod

A colleague of mine gave me his iPod to add some music to it from my computer.   He told me to first delete all the stuff on the iPod, and then he wants me to put some of my stuff onto it.
So I plugged his iPod into my computer, which opened up iTunes.   Then the computer asked me if I wanted to "sync" his iPod to my computer.   I then recalled that you can't just use an iPod on a different computer than what it's used to.    Something about having to erase everything that's on the iPod so it can then be synced to the new computer (in this case, mine).
So that sounded fine to me, since getting rid of his old stuff is what he wants me to do anyway.   But then I got a message saying that once I start the "sync," not only will it erase the contents of the iPod, but it will then add my entire music library to the iPod, which is NOT what I want to do.  I simply want to erase his iPod, and then, one at a time, add new tracks to it using my computer.   And I haven't even put most of those tracks on my computer yet.
Can someone please help me?  Thanks.

    Hi all,
Just a clarification on the Maunal Sync that bwhite has explained:
    bwhite62 wrote:
It MAY still make you erase the music that’s already there (I’m sorry, I just can’t remember right now), it won't - once you say No to the Erase and Sync, the device profile screens display, and you can check Manual Sync as bwhite has indicated.
but after that, you should be able to connect to any iTunes and pick the songs you want from the library and drag it onto the iPod. The Manual Sync selected for the device on that computer will apply only to that computer. Each different computer that you hook it up to has to have the device profile set up for that computer. This design allows you to have different profiles for different computers. For example, on my husband's Macbook Pro, we have our devices set up to sync to everything but Photos, since that is where our iTunes library lives. On my Macbook Air, we have our devices set up to only sync with photos, since that is where our iPhoto library lives....

  • How do i delete Music/Photos off my iPod

I bought my iPod today, and my friend just put all his music on it, but there are alot of stuff i don't want on there, and I can't seem to get rid of them...same with photos, i had stuff in My Pictures but i didn't want them to go onto my iPod, do i have to deletre the songs/photos from my computer to delete them from the iPod? because my friend said just to uncheck the little checkbox next to the song names, and i tried that and it didn't work... Please help.

The easiest way would be to erase the contents of the iPod disk and reset it back to the factory defaults. Follow this link for instructions on how to do so http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983

  • Cannot delete music from my new iPod nano

I have just bought an iPod nano 4GB and when I first got it I copied over almost a full 4GB of music to it. I have now ripped a lot of my cds in itunes and have about 20GB of music so I cannot copy the entire library, therefore I would like to copy everything over manually. I have set this option in the iPod preferences but it doesnt seem to do much. I cannot delete any of the music from the iPod. In iTunes, I go to my iPod and select a tune and press delete, then it prompts me about deleting it from the list. I press Yes and it says "do not disconnect" but then when I go to the iPod, the tune is still there. I even tried deleting all of the tunes at once but nothing.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Allan

I have managed to solve the problem. It appears that the file structure on the iPod had been corrupted so I used the iPod utility to erase the disk and install factory settings again. All seems to work fine now...

  • Get Deleted music back onto the iPod

Ok ,so my computer tech not only deleted the songs from my music library but he also took them off of my iPod because he forgot to select the "manually update" option. I need to know if there is any way for me to get my purchased music (that I bought from the music store) back w/o re-buying all of my songs. iTunes should keep a record or something shouldn't they?
    Packard bell   Windows XP Pro

Sorry, but officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased tracks. It's your responsibility to make backup copies in case something goes wrong with your system and you lose all the information on your hard drive. If you haven't made a backup on CD/DVD or another hard drive you're probably out of luck and will need to repurchase your tracks.
You can try contacting iTunes Music Store Customer Service and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis, but don't count on it.

I figured it out, it was a security setting I had to change.

  • IPod Deleting Music Files

How does one delete music files from the iPod?

Or make sure syncing is set to only sync checked items and then uncheck the songs in your library you don't want in the iPod.
Or sync only specific playlists and make sure the songs you don't want are not in any of the playlists you are syncing.
Or switch to manual updating and manually delete them from the iPod...

  • How to delete personal info when selling my ipod

    Hello everyone,
I own an ipod touch 4g and think about selling it becase I've purchased an Iphone 4.
What should I do in order to delete personal info from my ipod? I did "delete all content" in ipod's general menu. Will it delete all my purchased apps and any account information for sure?
Is the Ipod registered on my name and personal info (I mean, will anyone be able to find out my personal contact info I gave to Apple when first connecting the ipod to itunes?)?
I'm kinda worried since I might end up selling it to a person I don't know and don't want anyone to get any of my personal information ...
Thanks in advance, and I hope I posted it on the right forum.
    Have a great day!

It should only take seconds since:
This resets all settings, and erases all your information and media by removing the
encryption key to the data (which is encrypted using 256-bit AES encryption).
I would first try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Next would be to place thei Pod in recovery mode and retore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod. For recovery mode see:

  • Trouble deleting music off Iphone

I trouble deleting music off iPhone and iPod through iTunes. Can't access anything on it.

Now click on "Music" on the top left under "Library", all of your songs will appear to the right.  There is a box to the left of every song.  If it is checked, when you sync it will be transferred to your phone.  To delete a song from your phone, uncheck the box next to it.  When you have unchecked all the songs you want to delete from your phone, click on the Sync botton on the bottom right.  When your phone finishes syncing the unchecked songs should be deleted from your phone.
To summarize: checked songs are synced to your phone when you sync, unchecked songs are deleted from your phone when you sync.
Edit: When you are done unchecking the songs you don't want on your phone, click on the name of your phone again on the left sidebar, then click the Sync button on the bottom right.

  • Cannot delete music from iPod nano (latest generation).  Have already selected "Manually Manage music and videos" but delete is unavailable from right click or Edit.

I have done everything I've seen recommended for deleting music (jncluding "manually manage").  Thanks for the assistance!!!

Did you Apply the change after selecting (checking the box for) Manually manage music and videos?
With the latest iTunes, if the sidebar is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
In the sidebar, select the iPod under DEVICES.  Click the toggle (to the left of iPod) to drop down the iPod's content list, indented under iPod.  Click on Music there.  Over to the right, the list of songs on the iPod is shown.  You can select songs there, right click on them, and select Delete from the contextual menu.  You can also select songs there, go up to the menu bar, and select Delete under Edit.  You can also select songs there, and just press the Delete key on the keyboard.
If you want to use automatic syncing, which is far more convenient than the manual method, and easily manage content on the iPod (add and remove songs), please post back.

  • How do i delete songs from my ipod? i got it used a while back and it had a bunch of music on it that i dont want. i went to my itunes account and clicked on music to try to delete the music, but my no music came up. music is on my ipod though

i logged onto itunes and went to MUSIC under library and no music came up. I know that i have music on my ipod though because it shows up on my ipod. I am trying to delete that music. How do i do this??

How you delete content from your iPod depends on how it is set up to sync with your iTunes library whether that be automatically or manually.
If it's automatically, you must reconfigure your settings so that the album you wish to remove is no longer configured to sync to your iPod.  For example, if the Sync only checked songs and videos option is enabled from under the iPod's Summary tab, make sure all the tracks for this album do NOT have a tick mark next to them in your iPod.  Then resync your iPod with iTunes.
Otherwise, if you manually manage your iPod's contents, you must manually remove content from it.  You can do this by plugging your iPod in and clicking the small black triangle next to your iPod from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.  This will open up a submenu of content, so go ahead and click on Music. Locate the track or tracks you wish to delete. Highlight them and hit the Delete key or choose Edit -> Delete.
