Editing description for podcast episodes

I was wondering if anyone knew how to edit the description when you upload a new episode of your podast?
Everytime I upload a podcast it defaults to this description <img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=thelightcomedy.wordpress.com&blog=62035293 &post=45&subd=thelightcomedy&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" />
I upload my podcast onto auphonic to create a mp3 link, then I upload it to wordpress where feedburner reads it and sends it to itunes. I read that you are supposed to edit the info when you save it as an mp3 or ma4 before you upload it to auphonic, but that did not work as it still gave me the same description.
If anyone can point me in the general direction of where to edit the description for each episode for how it appears on itunes I would be grateful.
Cheers,

Please post the URL of your iTunes Store page.

  • Editing info for podcast

    Podcast location: http://www.radio4all.net/responder.php/podcast/podcast.xml?series=The+Sunrise+Oc ean+Bender
    In iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/series-podcast-sunrise-ocean/id585890686
My podcast was recently accepted onto iTunes, but there is no description of the show, author, artwork, etc…When I submitted the podcast for review I wasn't given the option of the adding any info, artwork, etc…I'd like a decscritpion of the show to show in iTunes, the radio station I'm at, etc…the usual. Sorry to be a  dolt, but can I edit/add that information…?…
Thanks in advance for time, and patience…

Your feed doesn't have any of the 'itunes:...' tags which are necessary to carry the artwork, author and so on; nor the xmlns 'declaration' in the second line:
    <rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0">
which is necessary for iTunes to be able to read these tags.
This page includes a sample basic feed so that you can see what one should look like:

  • "Show Description" for podcasts--key equivalent?

Is there any way, directly or via a decent fudge, to have a command-key equivalent for the "Show Description" selection you can get for a podcast via the contextual menu? I use this a lot, and right-clicking over and over is irritatingly slow. Yes, I know you can leave the window open, but I also use this on my MacBook, where screen real estate is somewhat precious.
I tried Show Description from Doug's Applescripts
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=showdescription
but not only does it bring up a different window (not the same one you get from the contextual menu) but what you get is mostly code and not easily read. I don't want to edit the code, just see the long description.

After selcting the value from F4 press enter, it will go through the PAI and PBO. Write the code to select the description from that check table and pass into that description field. In the attributes of that description field, goto Program tab Check the check box Output field and Output only.
    Check the sample program:
    TABLES: addr1_data.
    DATA: ws_country_desc TYPE t005t-landx,
          okcode TYPE sy-ucomm.
    CALL SCREEN 100.

  • Resolution for podcast episodes on Nano from Keynote

I'm importing Keynote presentations in to Garageband to save them as enhanced podcasts for students to view my class presentation when they've been absent.
I began exporting my keynote presentations as image files, then entering them one by one in Garageband as episodes to view the presentation on a Nano.
The image on the Nano is square-ish and cuts off the sides of the slides.
At what point in this process do I adjust the resolution so these slides so they work on the Nano and to what resolution do I change them to?
    Any ideas?

Podcasts usually use a 300x300 image, but on my iPod instead of cutting them off, it shrinks them to fit (letter boxed). You might have to try this:
    Export your images as normal
Create a new 300x300 presentation with a black background
drop all your photos onto the slide navigator of the new presentation (that left side bar thing where all your slides show up)
See if it makes a new slide for each image and places them on the slide.
Hopefully it'll shrink them to fit and letter box them, but if not, then you'll have to do that manually.
Export AGAIN as images, this time you'll have 300x300 versions of your slides.
    Hope that works for you.

  • No image or description for podcast series on iTS. HELP!

iTunes is expecting a feed at
    http://vanamaliashram.org/BhagavadGita_DiscoursesPodcast/Podcast/rss.xml
but there is no file at this URL, which is why there has been no update.
    Your page at http://vanamaliashram.org/BhagavadGitaDiscourses/Podcast/Podcast.html
links to a feed at itpc://vanamaliashram.org/BhagavadGitaDiscourses/Podcast/rss.xml and this does exist, but you will notice that the URL is not the same as that originally submitted to iTunes.
You need to create a folder at root level of your server called 'BhagavadGita_DiscoursesPodcast' (if this folder doesn't already exist)and move the feed to there, amending the website link.

  • Podcast Episode and Chapter Artwork Lost in Export

I have been trying and trying to export my podcast to disk, but when I do, only the audio content comes through. The episode artwork and the chapter artwork do not appear. When I drag-and-drop the episode into iWeb, "Drag Image Here" appears where the artwork used to be. This is the first time this has happened I have not changed a thing about how I produce my podcasts.
While troubleshooting, I also tried to export to iWeb. Then the audio content and episode artwork appeared, but none of the chapter artworks did.
Please help! My listeners expect my podcasts every Sunday morning. Thank you!
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I'm also having a problem with this, although for me it's compounded slightly by the fact that I'm not even sure where I would view the podcast track.
The podcast track does not show up when I play the file from my disk, nor when I subscribe to the podcast via iTunes from my server. It also doesn't show when viewing the .m4a file in either Quicktime Player or in a web browser (via the QT plugin), nor in the Finder preview when I Get Info... (but I can hear the audio portion in all cases).
Is there any way to check if the podcast track is actually contained in the exported file? It's a 30 second .m4a file and weighs in at 616kb.
My export settings in Garageband are for Video Podcast, I have publish podcast checked, my podcast track is visible and there is no video track. My podcast track is 7 pictures, and I've set named and assigned urls to all of them, and selected Episode artwork and named and written a description for the episode.
I've tried a couple things like hiding and re-hiding the podcast track and such, but to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas on this? It's starting to make me annoyed =)

  • Descriptions of individual episodes of my podcast NOT showing up in iTunes Store Listing AGAIN

I had this issue occur a while back, where the descriptions of invdividual episodes of my podcast would not display in iTunes - instead, a "--" would appear. At the time, the reason for this issue's occurrence was because I did not have a <itunes:subtitle> tag decalred for each individual episode. I have since gone in and added that string, and the descriptions had shown up in iTunes.
Just today, I added a new episode to my feed. The descriptions are all gone again! In their place: "--." Each item, including the most recently added episode, has a <itunes:subtitle> tag, so I am really not sure now what the issue is!

    Roger,
The second feed that you mentioned:
    https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/talk-radio-meltdown-radioyou/id425903848
    using the feed at
    http://talkradiomeltdown.com/radioyou-podcast.xml
... is irrevelant. It was a separate edition of my podcast that was granted its own special feed. It has not been updated since 2010-2011.
My main concern is my feed at: http://talkradiomeltdown.com/podcast.xml. That is my main feed. The last time I had this issue, you were very helpful in pointing out that I was missing the <itunes:subtitle> tags; I had gone in and added them, and after a couple of days, the feed updated with the subtitles in place.
However, it appears that, since adding a new episode yesterday (our first new episode since early September) the subtitles/descriptions seem to have vanished again.
Hopefully this resolves itself in a couple of days. I will check my feed again, though running the .xml file through FeedValidator.org has brought up no errors in regards to bad formatting.

  • Podcast episode description not showing up in iTunes

    Hi
I've got just an audio version of my podcast and as I wanted a bit more flexibility and statistics I started using Feedburner for the audio version. The only bad thing that I've found is that the individual episode description is just the description of the podcast itself. Have you got any suggestions what am I doing wrong or how to fix it?
iTunes Store link to the podcast - http://itunes.apple.com/ee/podcast/id415167798
    Original Podcast RSS - http://AppleSpotAudio.blip.tv/rss/itunes/
And the Feedburner RSS that goes to iTunes - http://feeds.feedburner.com/Ounahelid
BTW! I know that the last episode (no. 40) does not have a description in the Feedburner feed but does have a description in the original podcast RSS. That does not make a difference as I wanted to see what happens when theres no description at all. I latter updated the original feed to have the description but either the changes have not taken effect in Feedburner or they just wont update it.

You've fallen over a bug in the Store. According to Apple's Podcast Tech Specs page the 'Description' column in the Store page shows the contents of the 'itunes:subtitle' tag - the text you want is correctly shown in this tag and in the 'description' tag (which iTunes doesn't read but other readers do).
However, despite what they say, the 'Description' column actually shows the contents of the 'itunes:summary' tag (also seen by clicking on the 'i' button) which in your case is the same for every episode. So to get this to work you will need to amend this tag.
On subscribing the 'Decscription' column correctly shows the 'itunes:subtitle' tag. However you should look at this; you have used character codes for your accented characters and iTunes will not render these - it's showing the actual codes which looks messy. I don't know how you can work round this to get it to show the correct characters. If they are available on by the use of modifier keys you might be able to just type them in, and then it might show them - or it might not: it depends on whether the characters are covered by UTF-8. You've managed to achieve this with your title - Õunasaade.

  • Descriptions of individual episodes of my podcast NOT showing up in iTunes Store Listing

    Podcast feed: http://talkradiomeltdown.com/podcast.xml
    Feedburner variant feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/talkradiomeltdown
    Store listing: http://talkradiomeltdown.com/itunes
I have coded my podcast feed entirely by myself, using the template provided here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#example
While checking my feed in the iTunes Store recently, I have noticed that after Episode 64, the descriptions for each individual episodes are displayed as "--", and I am not seeing a link to open descriptions of these individual episodes in a new window. This appears to be a recent problem.
I am noticing no difference in XML code between Episode 64 and Episode 65, as the template is unchanged with each update to the feed. However, I have noticed that, when checking my feed through FeedValidator.org, I receive this message:
"Your feed appears to be encoded as "UTF-8", but your server is reporting "US-ASCII"
I have attempted to rectify this issue, but to no avail. I wonder if it is causing this issue to occur. Again, this appears to be recent. Last I checked the Store listing for my podcast (a few weeks ago), I was seeing descriptions for each individual episode.

Don't worry about the Feedvalidator error.
The Store is using the feed at http://talkradiomeltdown.com/podcast.xml - the Feedburner feed doesn't come into it.
Not filling in the 'itunes:subtitle' tag is what's caused the problem. When subscribing, the 'Description' column is presumably populated by the 'description' tag in the absence of the proper one, but the Store is not doing this.
Oddly enough your latest episode does have the 'itunes:subtitle' tag but it's not showing in the Store - did you add it subsequent to posting the episode? - if that's the case the Store will pick it up when you post a new episode.

  • Podcast Get Info Album Art Not Saved for Future Episodes

I have iTunes 8. I noticed most of my podcasts have album art showing in grid view. When I upgraded to 2.1 on my iPhone and synced my iPhone I noticed no album art on the podcast main page on the iPhone. I decided to restore the phone to a new phone not backup and the new sync of my podcasts showed album art. However inside each podcast the album art wasn't showing on each episode.
Looking at iTunes for those affected episodes doing a Get Info showed not album art. I guess the podcast doesn't have album art. I right click on the podcast, not an episode, and select get info. I click on the album art box and check the box and inside the album art box double click which brings up a navigation display. I had already taken a screen shot of the album art in the iTunes music store for each podcast. I import the graphic to the album art box and save. All the current episodes have their artwork updated. Now I sync to the iPhone and all is well.
If I download a new episode for this podcast and do a Get Info on this episode there is no artwork. Looking at the Get Info for the podcast the artwork was never saved. However if you change a text field in Get Info and then download a new podcast episode that text field in the get info of the episode is updated. Why doesn't the album art not get saved and update each episode that is downloaded with missing album art?
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks
    Kelvin

Yeah, on my iPhone some of the album art for my podcasts was actaully changed to an arbitrary incorrect image. For example, instead of the Cranky Geeks logo, I get to look at New Kids on the Block (don't ask). I'm going to try unsubscribing from the podcast, deleting past episodes from my computer, sync the phone so it wipes out those old episodes and incorrect art, and then resubscribing and resyncing the phone. Hopefully that will transfer the correct art back up to the phone.

  • Two questions: (1) Removing episodes and (2) Charging for podcasts

    Hi...
I hope someone out there can either help me or point in the right direction.
I recently launched a podcast and have two episodes. One is a full length podcast (roughly 90 minutes) and the other is a five-minute "teaser" or preview. I'd like to remove the teaser. While I think that doing so is a simple matter of removing it from my host (and/or removing it from the feed code), I thought I'd doublecheck just to be sure.
Second question... When I originally submitted the podcast to iTunes for approval, I submitted it as a free subscription. I now thinking of charging 99 cents, but am not sure how to edit my account to reflect this change. I tried to find the answer to this by way of the FAQ page, but for some reason I couldn't find the answer.
    Thanks in advance, and best,
    tiarawordsmith

Remove it from the feed file (everything between the <item> and </item> tags) and give it a day or two to disappear from the listing on iTunes. Then you can delete the media file (if you do it earlier visitors trying to access it will get an error message).
As to charging I'm not sure that iTunes provides any mechanism for charing for podcasts. Plainly you would need an account with them so you would have to contact them.

  • Changing the time iTunes checks for new podcast episodes

My broadband supplier allows me unlimited downloads from 00:00 to 08:00 and I want to use this time to download podcasts. I have set up iTunes to check for new episodes every day and download nay it finds but I can't set the start or end time.
I am running Windows XP, do I need to edit the registry ?
    Thanks,
    colin

    Hi colin, welcome to discussions.
No need to edit the registry.
If you check the "Podcasts" tab in the Preferences, underneath the option "check for new episodes". There is written in tiny letters, when iTunes is going to check the next time. In your case, that would be the same hour you checked last time but on the next day.
So, I suggest you actualize the Podcast folder manually at 00:01, f.e. The next day, iTunes will do so on it's own. As long as it is running at midnight, iTunes doesn't change this setting, and, as you have broadband, the downloading shouldn't take 8 hours per day.

  • ITS indexing podcast episode comments/description

I posted this over under iTunes Store too - mainly because I'm not sure where it goes...  It's more of an iTS question...  But it is podcast related so sorry for the cross post...
Does anyone know when / how Apple decides to index the content of each shows comments/description?
I see some podcasts have the comments indexed for a search because their recent episodes appear when you search for those terms in the episode description (things that are not in any other part of the XML, only that episode)...  My podcast has been in the iTunes Store now for a little over 2 months and still does not appear under any search where the contents of the show comments are included.  There's nothing out there that I can find about the indexing of show comments content for searching.
Also - how long is a show eligable for the New and Noteworthy rankings?
Finally - are those two things related?  I see other New and Noteworthy shows that came out when mine started and also see that their individual shows do not seem to have the episode comments/descriptions in the search results either.
Anyone have any thoughts on how iTunes actually works with regards to these things?

Thanks for the quick response Roger.
I'm positive that iTunes does do some sort of episode comment/description based indexing because there's some specific terms I can search for are NOT in titles or in XML keywords. The only place the terms appear are in the description of that episode.  You search for those terms and the results are just the shows that match that term.
If I had to guess I'd say that the episodes are not indexed at the episode level while you are in the New and Noteworthy  listings...  It almost looks like when you get the "Listeners also downloaded" section in your iTunes listing is when your episodes start to get indexed and none of that happens as long as you are New and Noteworthy.  Just can't grasp when that shift happens.
Well, it's always wonderful that Apple keeps these things so black boxed. Makes trying to grow a show so much more "interesting".

    Greetings Heather,
After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing an error with the Podcasts app. You may want to consider restarting the device first, and then resetting if that does not work. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
    How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities,
