Editing documents saved as PDF

Why can't I edit documents saved as PDF?  Last week I was able to save them and then edit them.  Today I can only view them.

Hey johnfromnew malden,
First off, do you have all of your files backed up?
Have you ever replaced the hard drive?
Try starting up in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key while booting. Continue holding the Shift key until you see the login window. It may take 5 or more minutes to start up as Safe Mode will try to repair your hard drive if there are issues.

As per my understanding , To disable the field RV45A-KWMENG based on the condition for Transaction VA01/VA02.
The conditions which i need to check is Order Type and item category.
I understand that this is the code which i need to insert for disabling the field but i have a question here, where is the condition here and how the system understand for this field RV45A-KWMENG it has to disable. I think we need give the condition as if RV45A-KWMENG....... Another one if iam not wrong we need check that it has to be done in VA01 and VA02 then only this condition should be executed.
IF VBAK-AUART EQ 'XXX' OR VBAP-PSTYV EQ TANN .
    IF SCREEN-NAME = 'XXX'.
    SCREEN-ACTIVE = 0
    ENDIF.
    ENDIF.
Please suggest me the better way how can i do it in the coding.
    Awaiting for ur prompt reply.

  • Draw document saved as PDF and emailed is faulty when printed

Each month I create 12 parish-magazine pages of advertisements in Draw, save the set as a PDF document and email it for printing. Consistently, when printed some pages are reproduced smaller than the rest.
Can someone tell me why, please?

First-base solution: the pages in question run into the printer's margins and the driver is set to shrink the pages rather than crop them. Check what the printer's margins are and ensure that the document's margins are the same or larger. This sort of problem can arise when you are printing on a printer not connected to the Mac where the document is created (so you don't get a warning).

  • Documents saved as ".pdf" documents when uploaded to a server

I am a very new Webmaster for a non-profit with an iMac using Leopard. I'm using Pagespinner and Fetch. When I need to attach information sheets in pdf format, I open them in Word, then use the "pdf" option under the Print command (and remember to uncheck the "hide extension" command) to save in "x.pdf" format. I check the links out offline and everything works and the downloaded test file looks perfect. But after I upload them to our server using Fetch, and test them "live", the downloaded x.pdf files all come out looking "corrupted" with 95% blank pages. I have tested and re-tested. All my predecessor's .pdf attachments look and work fine but I don't know what technology he used. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to buy a professional PDF software package?

I don't think you need to buy a professional PDF software package. Uploading a file to a website and then downloading it again should not change it.
Is fetch uploading in binary mode when you place the files on the webserver? I don't use fetch so I'm not sure where that setting would be, but if it is like any other FTP client it will have the setting somewhere.

  • Excel document saved as PDF

Is it possible to use digital signatures if the pdf was not created in Acrobat?
    Thanks.

I haven't been able to make that work. When I click on SIgn, the options below are grayed. Could it be that there are no actual signature fields in the form? I can sign them if I am using Acrobat, not Reader.
    Thanks.

  • Print to PDF - using Snow Leopard (Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose

i have a PDF form that i created that is used as a custom proposal that my company sends out to potential clients. the form in its editable state is only used internally. we recently upgraded to snow leopard, but prior to the upgrade, we were able to fill the custom proposal form out using adobe reader, and, as you well know, we weren't able to save that edited document as a PDF with the custom form fields filled out. our work around using adobe reader was to print to a pdf using the adobe pdf printer in the printer dialog. with the addition of snow leopard, however, instead of choosing the adobe pdf printer, we were to choose PDF from the bottom left corner, then Save As PDF, and it would spit out an uneditable pdf that then allowed us to email it to the potential client without them being able to edit it as well as have an internal, digital copy for our records instead of having lots of paper floating around (i know this is also doable using security that disallows the client certain editing privileges, but printing to a pdf is much quicker and more efficient, and the pdf security isn't really that secure at its best).
in any case, i came across this gem of a post here on the support forums that installs another option from the PDF drop down on the bottom left of the print dialog menu that reads Save As Adobe PDF and is supposed to do exactly what i am trying to get it to do...print to a pdf file from adobe reader.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50981.html
once i updated to acrobat 9.2 (as the link above suggests 9.1), however, the Save As Adobe PDF does appear in the print dialog menu, but it still gives me the same error that acrobat 8 - 9 gave me while using Snow Leopard — Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save — and as i've already explained, you can't save an edited pdf form in reader (as i am the only one in the office with acrobat) and still keep the fields as you've entered them in. the only work around is to print to a pdf but is apparently having some recent problems.
using acrobat, however, i know that i can save the editable pdf as a new file with the fields customized as i have left them, but it still saves it as an editable pdf and the print to a pdf option still remains the best option...that way we have digital copies internally that are uneditable that can be printed at any time or emailed to the client.
how can i do print to a pdf, based on what i've written above, using snow leopard and acrobat and reader?

A simple way is to flatten the form fields, which converts the field appearances to regular page contents. You can do this with JavaScript or PDF Optimizer (Advanced > PDF Optimizer > Discard Objects > Flatten form fields). A very nice script that adds a custom menu item can be found here: http://www.uvsar.com/projects/acrobat/flattener/

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro won't edit document created by Illustrator 2 and saved as PDF

I've tried multiple things, but can't get Acrobat Pro to edit text within a PDF file which was created by Illustrator cs2 "Accumulated text within the attempted selection area is rotated other than horizontal or vertical.  Touchup cannot create a text selection area.".   I've searched google, read help....
Fix was to download NitroPDF.   It quickly and easily edited the text.   So why won't Adobe do it...

The same thing happens with pdf files that are not zip files even if saved from Acrobat Pro on my computer.

  • How to add/change Job Options when saving a FrameMaker document as a PDF using Acrobat 9

If you are logged on as a domain user you could have a problem if you want to add or edit .joboption files in Distiller 9 when it is opened by FrameMaker.
After installing Acrobat 9 the action of saving a FrameMaker document as a PDF automatically starts Distiller 9 which then uses the "Job Options" files that are located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings. Unless some changes have been made to the "Security" settings of the "Adobe" folder and the "Adobe PDF" folder under "All Users" it will not be possible to add or edit ".joboption" files in the "Settings" folder located in that "Adobe PDF" folder.
This can be confusing because when Distiller 9 is started separately, from Programs, it then uses the job options located in your own user folder (C:\Documents and Settings\NLPW\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings). In your own user folder (in my case: NLPW) you can add or edit the job option files.
In order to be able to add or edit job option files under "All Users" you must be included in the "All Users" list and have the appropriate "Permissions" security setting. To set this, right click on the "Adobe" folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe) and select "Properties", then click on the "Security" tab and add yourself to the list. Finally, (important) check the "Full Control" box under "Allow" in the permissions field. Repeat this procedure on the "Adobe PDF" folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF). Now you have the ability to add or edit ".joboption" files located in the "Settings" folder and these will be available when Distiller is started by FrameMaker.

Thank you so much for that tip. I don’t have exactly the same set-up (FrameMaker 8, Acrobat 8 Professional), but changing the permissions as you describe fixed the problem of not being able to save or change Distiller job options which has been bothering me for a while.

  • How do i edit a saved document?

how do I edit a saved document?

    Hi wallacem59620634,
Are you referring to a file that you've saved to your Acrobat.com online account? If so, you'll need to download that file to your computer to edit it. Please follow these steps:
Log in to your account at https://cloud.acrobat.com/files.
Select the file that you want to edit, and then click Download. The file will be downloaded to the Downloads folder on your computer. From there, you can open it in an application that supports that file format and edit it.
Please note, that if you're working with a PDF file, you'll need to use Acrobat to edit the content. If you don't have Acrobat, please feel free to download a 30-day trial from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Save editable form into regular PDF document using Acrobat Reader

    Hello,
With Adobe Pro, I've created a PDF form using the following:
    Save As Other...
    Reader Extended PDF
Enable More Tools (includes form fill-in & save)...
Once saved, I am sending this form to colleagues for them to fill out.  These colleagues only have access to Acrobat Reader.
What I'm hoping to do is to have them save the file into a regular PDF document with the info inserted in the form but without the option to change the form info (change from editable form to regular PDF file).
    Thanks for your help.

Hrm, OK. Well I actually DON'T have my document set as a reader extended PDF. If i fill out my fields then try to use the sign feature, it's not flattening the fields when I save/close reopen. They are still editable.
Just as a test, I saved it as reader extended and the sign feature is grayed out as you stated it should be. I am using acrobat X to create my fields and using reader XI to test inputting data/saving.
I need users to be able to fill it out, save then send and the recipient NOT be able to modify the fields. Am I missing something with the sign feature?
    Thanks again for the reply!

  • Hi! Trying to save my document as a pdf, get the message that "this pdf is already open somewhere and cannot be saved". Whats wrong??

Hi! When trying to save my document as a pdf, I get the message that "this pdf is already open somewhere and cannot be saved". I have not yet succeeded in saving it, and I've closed all preview windows of it, so it simply can't be open anywhere. Whats wrong??

    Correction on Question:
This is a web application and the users need to be able to load the editable .pdf form from the website, edit it and submit it back to the website from within Internet Explorer.
Users began getting the error message:
'The document could not be saved. This file is already open.'
last Friday after having no problems prior to this. Some users can edit the editable .pdf forms on the website and save the file with the same name to the website. Some get the error mentioned in the subject.
We really need help getting this resolved.
