Editing dreamweaver with contribute

I am trying to edit a page using contribute. Previewing the page looks good and the page works fine.  When I try to edit it, it only shows the bottom banner

I am using CS3
Contribute and dreamweaver,  the banner is just something that is at the bottom of the page with the school district information on it

  • Can't edit editable regions with Contribute

Have created some templates with Dreamweaver 8, left/right
columns are clearly marked editable, yet my contribute users aren't
able to edit those columns and the screen display is distorted
(have to scroll down to see center column). Any suggestions on what
I need to be looking for to correct?
example of left column not editing:
    http://www.rochesterpubliclibrary.org:8080/kids/index.html
example of left and right not editing
    http://www.rochesterpubliclibrary.org:8080/teens/index.html

I had someone help - my pages were looking for
css/columns.css as hidden at design time, but I was using a full
    URL
    http://ww....:8080. Once we added
that URL to Design Time Style Sheets (under CSS panel, right click
to get Design Time ) as file as HIDE at Design time, columns became
editable in Contribute. Let me know if that doesn't make sense and
    I'll try to explain better.

  • Client can't edit site with Contribute CS3

I put a site online last week (www.dunelakeslodge.co.nz) and
    supplied my
client with Contribute CS3 to update it, supplying her a
    connection key.
She is connecting OK, but when she tries to edit a page she
    gets a
message saying she "can't edit this page because Dave Addison
    (that's
me) is already editing it. Please contact blah, blah...".
I have connected to the site myself with Contribute 3, and
    got a similar
error: "you can't edit this site because you are already
    editing it on
    another computer"!!
It gave me the option to "unlock" the page, which I selected,
    and I was
then able to edit the page. However, my client still can't.
Anyone got a solution to this?
    thanks
    Dave

I'm sure someone here will be able to help, but just curious
    if you've tried
posting in the Contribute forum at all?
    Take care,

  • Edit blog with Contribute CS3

Hi, i've made my web site using iWeb and uploaded it to my iDisk using iWeb
I have a blog page made with iWeb
can I use Adobe Contribute CS3 to modify and create blog entries on my site?
I ask because I have a friend who i'd like to have a blog on the site but don't want to hassle of syncing two different copies of iweb
    any help appreciated, D

contribute seems to be able to connect to your .mac web hosting
My impression is that it cannot connect to the space used by iWeb, only to iDisk/Sites, used by Homepage. Is that right?
any ideas on how to edit iweb blogs without using iweb? i know its a tough one
I can't imagine there is any practical way to do this. You should use blogger or some other blogging system if you need that capability.

  • Unsure about preparing a Dreamweaver Site for use with Contribute

Recently I designed a small Dreamweaver Website (DW CS2) for
a friend and it is already successfully online. So that my friend
can manage her own website, I`ve decided to prepare this DW site
for use with Contribute, but I'm unsure about the steps involved
and what files I will need to store on the server. Is the following
    roughly correct?
Step 1: Define editable regions in these html files and save
    these as html files.
Step 2: Enable Contribute Compatibility in DW before I upload
    to the server.
Step 3: Is setting up a Connection Key necessary for my
    friend`s access?
Step 4: Upload these. Do these completely overwrite the
existing Dreamweaver html files on the server? Or should I be
    saving in another file format?
Many thanks to anyone who can advise me!

    I sugggest these steps:
    A: Dreamweaver:
    1. build you site based on (a) template(s) with editable
    regions
    2. upload the website to the server
    B: Contribute
    1. create a connection
    2. administer the website ( and create an admin password )
    3. set the proper settings for your users (administrators,
    publishers, writers), enable rollbacks
    4. create a connection key fot you user with the proper role
    and save that to disk
    C: Dreamweaver
    1. manage the site in dreamweaver
    2. enable contribute compatibility (this way files get
checked in and out, so you know who is editing what)
    D:
    1. Sent the connection key to your user

  • Editing pages created using dreamweaver with microsoft's visual studio express

Here's a quick, somewhat vague, question for anyone who might have an answer. Is there a trick to editing pages created using dreamweaver with Microsoft Visual Studio Express? The reason I ask is I recently finished a web site for my first client who now wants to make edits herself using the program she uses, that being Microsoft. I thought it would be as easy as pulling the html files from the server (or the usb flash drive i gave her), making changes and then putting them back to the server, but apparently she is having some problems. I'm meeting with her soon. I have no experience with any other programs, other than Adobe, so I don't know how much good I'll be in helping her. Maybe it's an easy question, maybe not. Any info appreciated. Thanks!

Dreamweaver template commands are all wrapped in HTML comments, so they
shouldn't cause any problems. They should simply be treated as comments.
However, the concept of editable and locked regions will be ignored.
Hi David, I meant the templates with the dwt extension, not the html files that are created from them. The full version of VS will recognize the dwt extension as 'Dynamic Web Template' but as this is a microsoft extension it does not recognize the code for editing and shows a large number of errors, (before anyone comments the dwt file extension is used by a number of other programs, all referring to a different file type).

  • Updating Templates in Dreamweaver with a Contribute managed site?

My company sited up a site for one of our clients using Dreamweaver. We created templates with update sidebar, header and such if needed to. The client uses Contribute to manage the main content sections and create new pages.
I have the site saved locally on my computer. Make the changes to the template which updates the all the pages linked to it but when I upload them it overwrites the content the clients has made.
What is the best way update the templates in Dreamweaver without over-writing the main content parts of the the client had made with Contribute?

Before you make any changes, perform a Get (down arrow icon in the Files menu) operation to download any client-updated files first. That way, your local files will be exact duplicates of what the client has placed on the server. After verifying you have the most recent versions, make your change and upload.

  • Intergrating Dreamweaver 8 with Contribute 3

    Hi,
I've integrated Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 for use with
Contribute 3, by doing the following within the Site Definition
    Window (within Dreamweaver 8):
    - Setting the FTP Remote Info (Test works)
    - Enabling Check In / Check Out
    - Enabling 'Maintain Design Notes'
    - Ticked the 'Enable Contribute compatibility' under the
    Contribute option
    - Clicking on 'Adminster Site in Contribute' works fine, I
can connect, adminster global options and User roles.
    BUT
    Whenever I check-in or check-out a website file using
Dreamweaver, I get the popup message:
"The file required for Contribute compatibility does not
exist on the server. Would you like to turn off Contribute
    compatibility?"
I always say No and the upload/download works ok, but I would
like to know what is causing this message to appear?
    Any pointers?
    Many Thanks,
    Shams

  • SP2010: Users with Contribute rights can Add but not edit items in Calendar View

    Hello,
One of our users was recently trying to update a Calendar item in the Calendar view, but was unable to do so. Here are the facts of the case:
    - The members of the user's group have Contribute rights on the Calendar list, and on each of the specific Calendar items tested
    - I logged in as a member of the same group and am able to Add items in the calendar view, but when I click on an item title the Ribbon options (including Edit) are not available - whether I created the item or not
    - While logged in as a member of that group, I can edit calendar items using the Allitems view, using the dropdown menu and Edit Item (if I click on the item title, I get the item details without the Ribbon)
    - I created a new Calendar view ("Calendar2") but the problem was the same
When logged in with admin rights, I get the Edit ribbon when I click on an item title from the Calendar view. Is there a way to do the same for non-admin users? Thanks.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you were able to add items into a Calendar List, but you couldn’t edit some items of the Calendar List in Calendar View as a member of your group with Contribute rights. And if you edit the Calendar List’s
items in the “All Events” view or log in with admin rights, you can edit these items.
Therefore, I wonder if you use the “Calendar Overlays” to display some items of other Calendar Lists in the current Calendar List as John suggested.
And if you don’t have permissions to edit items of other Calendar Lists, you can’t edit those items of other Calendar Lists in the current Calendar List in Calendar View.
So, I recommend that you should check if using the “Calendar Overlays” to display some items of other Calendar Lists in the current Calendar List at first.
If yes, you need to check if you have permissions to edit items of other Calendar Lists.
For test, I suggest that you can create a new Calendar List and test to see how it works.
    Best Regards,
    Thanks

  • Does Contribute CS4 in browser editing work with IE8?

    Hi,
I am trying to find out ifContribute CS4 in browser editing works with internet explorer 8.  The website says it works with 6 and 7, but no mention of 8.  I rang technical assistance and they said 'it may or may not work' which is really helpful!  Before I recommend to my client to purchase this software I need to know if it's actually going to work for him.  Is anyone using it with IE8.  Would love to hear from anyone that has any useful information!  Thanks

    Hi,
It works with IE8 also. You can download and try the same.

  • Integrating with Contribute

I have successfully used Dreamweaver in previous versions to
set up sites to use with Contribute. I recently upgraded to the CS3
Suite. I am now building a site in Dreamweaver that my client will
be able to edit in Contribute.
    In Site Manager I have:
    (1) set up the remote info to connect to the site files on
    the server.
    (2) tested the connection successfully
    (3) In the Contribute Category, I clicked the "administer
site in contribute" button, there is some "connection to the
server" activity showing briefly...... but then no "administer
    website dialog box" opens.
Is there something else in this new version that I am to do
to get the dialog box to open? Thanks for any help you can give
    me.

No one had an answer.... I am assuming that maybe there are
no official Dreamweaver techs who monitor this board, since this is
a tech issue rather than a normal usage question.
Does anyone know if there is any tech support for the
software.... other than purchasing their support plan?
I don't mean to sound rude... I am just getting desperate to
find an answer, other than just deleting this new version and
putting my older version back on since it worked fine.

  • Dreamweaver and Contribute

Hi, I apology in advance if these are really simple questions but I'd just like to understand how the process works with the Contribute software in relation to sites created in Dreamweaver.
I've created a site but an end user wants to updated a News section himself therefore presumably he needs to have bought the Contribute software?
If I wanted them to only be able to change parts of the page then how does this work? Is it similar to locking sections in a Template?
Does Contribute allow them to change HTML code or does it work purely as a WYSIWYG?
Are there any good links for info re Contribute you can recommend?.
    Thanks again, Ian

For me, Contribute was a great idea when it first appeared in 2002.
I think the web has moved on since then.
The downsides of Contribute in my eyes are the relatively high cost of its per-seat licensing and you can only use it on the computer where it is installed.
In addition, whenever my clients had a problem with Contribute, I ended up becoming the default helpdesk for a product which I never use.
There are now many free (or very low cost) browser-based editing solutions or lightweight CMSese available wherever you have an internet connection.

  • Dreamweaver and Contribute Updating

Hey - I have a site built with Dreamweaver CS4 - with hundreds of pages and links. We're a small office with 15 employees. However management wanted certain individuals to be able to "do updates on their own", so we purchased Contribute.
My problem is that I have no idea when someone updates a page, so if for any reason I go into a page and make changes (on my local) and update, then I've overwritten their changes.
    1. Is there a way I can be notified by either Dreamweaver or Contribute when a change is made; or
    2. Should I just synch all my local pages at the end of the day (which could take a long time); or
    3. Should I work on my updates from the server and stop using the local?
Suggestions and assistance would be great!
    Thanks.
    Mark

I'm not sure of a way to tell, other than logging in and viewing the remote files. Of course, if you have checkin/checkout enabled, you will see that, it seems to me. The date that shows is the most recent update for each file.
I know it is possible to 'survey' recent updates locally, however, in the files panel...the little black/grey menu in the right top corner of the panel gives you some choices.
You could just arbitrarily download a page when you go to edit it...actually, that's what the checkin/checkout will do for you, not allow you to use a local version and always bring down the version that is on the server. (to the best of my knowledge...)
Another way to tell is to put an "updated" javascript on each page that will give day, date, and time if you format it correctly. Unfortunately for this conversation, I don't have it immediately at hand, but it is possible and pretty easy.

  • Do I need "check in/check out" turned on with Contribute?

I'm the only user of the site, but I have a guy who accesses
a few pages with Contribute. Can I turn off the Check In/out
feature? Or will I lose the ability of Contribute to see when he's
editing a page? I'm assuming it has to stay on, but it is quicker
and easier for me to not have it on. thanks.

This situation really needs a proper Content Management System (CMS): Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, Expression Engine all come to mind.
She's a content contributor, you're the system admin. She needs a bulletproof browser-based editing environment to do her thing without worrying about anything else.
Down the track, she'll probably want repeat content that she can control on different pages, content expiry, scheduled content, categories, tags, sidebars, headlines: all standard CMS features.
Using Dreamweaver and Check In/Check Out is just going to create one issue after another.
The current solution was probably adequate in the past but it's reaching the limits of its scalability. It's really time for a new solution.
    Have you considered a CMS?
