Editing Drummer tracks?

So far, I like the Drummer feature - bought the extra pack, have been playing around with arrangements - here's my question.  I'm putting together drum tracks for an album, and in one case, I need two bars of an eight-bar section to repeat - making that one section ten bars.  In any other drum editing program, and in the old version of Garageband, I could simply open editor, copy the two bars, and punch it in.  However, when I go to editor in the new version, it takes me back to the window with the virtual kit, the fill settings, etc. and I can't see the channel wav to just highlight, copy, and paste.  Did they take this out?  Can I really not edit any of the 8-bar sections in the Drummer feature?  If that capability has been removed, the feature is essentially worthless, and I can't believe that anyone at Apple wouldn't recognize this.  Help?  Anyone?  Am I just missing something really obvious?

Based on your question, it seems that you have a misconception of what a Drummer Region is.
A Drummer Region doesn NOT conatin any MIDI events
A Drummer Region does NOT contain an audio signal that you can view as a waveform
A Drummer Regions contains INSTRUCTIONS for a Drumm Pattern Generator (build into the Drummer Track.
When you edit a Drummer Region in the Drummer Editor, youedit the various instructions/parameters for the Drum Pattern Generator. Instead of placing exact notes for drum Kit Piece (Snare, Kick, HH, etc) the way you do it in a MIDI Region, here, you describe what to play in broader terns: Louder, less louder, more complex, less complexx, etc.
You have to make sure to fully understand to (different/new) concept behind the Drummer. Here is an exceprt from my book "GarageBand X - How it Works" that is now also available the Apple iBOok Store as an interactive multi-touch iBook.
You create a new Track, the Drummer Track ➊.
The Drummer Track contains special Regions, the Drummer Regions ➋.
The Regions contain the Drum Pattern, the instructions for the Pattern Generator what and how to play.
Each Drummer Region (the instructions) can be edited in the Drummer Editor ➌.
18 different Drum Kits ➍ are available in the Library Window ➎.
A Drum Kit includes style specific Drummer Presets ➏ that become available in the Drummer Editor ➌.
A Drum Kit also includes all the Plugins, including the Software Instrument Plugin "Drum Kit Designer" ➐.
The Plugins are hidden in GarageBand but their important parameters can be controlled via the Smart Controls Window ➑.
Hope that helps

After Installation of Logix Pro X everthing was runing maybe 2 weeks perfect, also the Drummer Track.
On my Mac Book Pro everything is running also without Problems.
Someone knows, what i can do ?
How is it possible, to make again the Installation of Logic Pro X from the App-Store?
I think, this would be a chance to overwrite the old Version, to finish the problem.
    Thanks

    Problem is finish.
After delete the folder: Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Logic/Drummer
    and reinstall everything was ok.

  • Drummer track Hi Hat sounds

I created a new Drummer track, and then opened up a new Drum Instrument with the identical drum set, Option Dragging the audio regions down to the new track to create MIDI regions. After comparing the Drummer track against the MIDI track, I noticed that the Open Hi Hat (A#1) key is being used as an alternate closed sound, actually triggering a closed hi hat sound.  When I look at it in the piano roll, I can hear the Open sample by hitting A# on my keyboard or clicking A#1 on the vertical keyboard on the edit page, but if I click on one of the A# notes in the edit window, I hear a closed hi hat.  I looked at the Event list for an event that would cut the Open sample short, but it isn't there.
    What's up with that?
    Jim

I also want to know how to fix this. I use the ride instead. I tried using the drum module sound but I cannot get the my audio interface to work (zoomR16) I connect through the output mono to the zoom I can see the light when I hit the pad but no sound from my headphone. I am using a dtx540

  • Trouble getting the Drummer Track to recognise rest notes

    Hi -
Having a frustrating time at the moment getting a Drummer Track to accurately follow another track and need some guidance.
I have a drum track that I've previously imported into Logic Pro from a BOSS DR-880 drum machine.
The midi data from the drum machine sits in a Software Instrument track with the East Bay+ drum patch applied to it.
It plays fine but has no soul, so I want to breathe life into it by getting a Logic Pro drummer to follow the drum machine track and use that instead.
This is where the frustration lies, as the Drummer Track is just not following the midi track accurately enough. The drum machine track utilises regular rest notes - accentuated beforehand with a kick/cymbal 'stab' - in both the verses and choruses, but try as I might I cannot get the drummer to recognise these rest notes or perform fills around them.
I've so far tried the following in an attempt to improve the situation:
    - Created Arrangement Markers for each section of the midi track - i.e. intro, verse, chorus, bridge etc...
    - In the drummer track editor, modified the settings for the above sections to try to get the drummer to accurately pick up the rest notes on the midi track
    - In the drummer track editor, enabled 'Follow' for kick and snare on the drummer track and pointed it to the midi track
    - In the midi track header, enabled it as a Groove Track and ticked the drummer track to follow the groove track
None of this tweaking is giving the desired result.
Yes - I can manually go in and adjust the drum track by converting it to midi and creating the rests, but then I've got to deal with a preceding fill that doesn't fit the rest note, meaning a lot of fiddling about and risk the flow of the Drummer Track that I wanted in the first place. I've also got a few more other songs to import from the drum machine that I know I'll have the same bother with.
Has anyone had similar experiences to this? How did you overcome them?
    Any advice or tips welcome.
    Thanks!

First, you are not going to be able to put a MIDI region on a Drummer track to have the computer drummer make it lifelike.  In fact, if you take a Drummer generated region, turn it into MIDI, try and make some edits, then turn it back to a Drummer region you will lose all your edits.  The Drummer plays what it plays.  Likewise, by telling the Drummer to follow the groove of your MIDI region, you are telling the Drummer to play its own pattern, but to match the kick and snare to the lifeless region.  That's only if you use a drummer region - doesn't work for MIDI.
If you want to add life to your existing MIDI you can use some of the humanize options in MIDI transform.  Or, you could take a pretty good feeling Drummer region, convert it to MIDI, make a groove template out of that, then apply that to your lifeless region.  Be prepared for a few notes to miss the GT grid and move way out of line.

  • I can no longer edit my track/artist/album info.

Normally I would right click ---> Get Info and edit my track or go to File ---> Get Info and do the same.
I am able to get to the point of changing the information, but after I make the changes, I click OK, but they are not reflected in iTunes.
Is there a setting with 7.0 that I need to enable to allow editing? Thanks!

Your iTunes may be corrupted. Try re-installing iTunes 7 and see if that fixes your problem. I have used the function as recent as an hour ago and have not had a problem with editing. I did not have to enable any settings to be able to do so either. I am not sure if there is a setting for that but I assume if there is you would find it under the "Preferences" in one of the tabs.
    Good luck!

In trying to edit a track - I want to "Delete and Move" the track to automatically fill the area that I deleted - However, after selecting a section to delete - the "Delete and Move" option is grayed out. How do I fix this?

Thank you for your attempt to help me. I appreciate that.
I think I figured out how to fix it-
I found that if I only delete a small amount at the beginning and at the end of the section that I want to remove - and then highlight that section - Then (and only then) does the "Delete and Move" function work to remove the unwanted section and automatically close the gap between the surrounding sections. I was trying to select a whole section and could only delete it - and then manually move it.
    Problem solved.

  • TS1468 Why can't I edit album track information in the INFO window, and more to the next track without having to do each track seperate?

In iTunes 10, I could edit multiple track information in the (Info) tab and click to move to the next track within that album. Now with iTunes 11.1.3.8, I have to do each track seperate. It will not let me edit track information (as if track numbering), and click next to move to another track within the same album. It's a pain to have to do each song , and then click on the next song I want to edit. My music library is 171 GB (47,185 files & 19,498 folders). I can find the Duplicate files, but I can't edit like I use to in iTunes 10. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreicated!!!!! I will be an old man at the rate I'm going now.

Either select a single track, Get Info, then use the Next/Previous buttons to move between them, or select multiple tracks, Get Info, and edit common properties. The next and previous buttons do not appear in multi-track Get Info (and never have).
Regarding duplicates, Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.

  • Is it poss to edit 2 tracks - mic&pickup, simultaneously in sample editor?

(I'm a total novice in Logic so it's easy to blind me with jargon) I've recorded a guitar with mic and pickup and want to be able to see and edit both tracks at the same time in Sample Editor. Any idea how? The manual says:
"If you’re dealing with an interleaved, or half of a “split stereo” file or Audio Region, both
channels/audio files will be displayed in the Sample Edit window, with the left side on
top, and the right side below."
Is there a way of interleaving my 2 tracks so I can do it this way? Or some other way? Many thanks in advance x

set your 2 tracks up the way you want in the stereo field - hard left and right if you want to be able to de-interleave them later....
Make sure everything else is muted.
Bounce the tracks using the bounce feature under the main out fader on logics mixer.
Your bounced track will be an interleaved stereo file which you can edit in the sample editor (as long as you choose interleaved stereo in the bounce dialogue box).

  • Editing Music Tracks

    Hello
I have just starting to play with fcp x.  As a long time broadcast editor I thought it was about time to learn it.
I have done a short showreel for a friend which is a great way to learn!  I put some pictures down in story order and then put a track of music down to cut too.
I needed to edit the music down to length, but I could find no way to add an in point or out point to the music track, all it did was add the in points to the video (and its audio) track above.  In the end I used the razor blade and cut the music where I wanted and then dragged it back to make the edit.  Also I could not get the music track into trim mode..  Is this the only way to edit music tracks?  Any info would be great.
    Thanks a lot
    Rob

No need to use the blade tool. Just trim the audio clip by dragging the edge of the clip. With snapping turned on, it will be easy to align the end points.

  • Editing Voice Tracks in Garage Band

Can you/ how do you edit voice tracks in Garage Band?
In particular, editting out/ deleting pauses in spoken voice tracks.
Is Music Project of Podcasting the best for the spoken word in terms of post production capabilities?
    Thanks!

If you are only doing a little voice editing then, as
HangTime says, you can do it reasonably well in Garge
band. However if you have any amount to do you would
find it easier with a proper audio editor. Audacity
is free but flaky: I would recommend spending $25 on
    Amadeus II:
    http://www.hairersoft.com.
There is also Amadeus Pro which is $40 and has basic
    multitrack facilities, but for straightforward
editing Amadeus II will be fine. It can also open and
save in a variety of formats and make use of both
    Audio Units and VST plugins.
I do all kinds of voice work, lots of it musical so I like GB.
But I also do voice overs. 30 - 60 sec. commercials, presentaions and the like, so if I can just have some modest editting capability and add jingles I'd like to just stick with GB if possible.
I've only had GB a few days now.
    Thanks again.

  • Export edited audio track in Final Cut Express

Does anyone know how to export an edited audio track as a mp3 without it being a video file using FCE?

Use Export>QuickTime Movie and change the export function to audio only. Take that to iTunes and use it to convert to MP3.

  • Unable to edit the tracks number

Having updated iTunes 12.01 with Yosemite 10.10.2 I'm unable to edit the tracks number, as I used to do, select a song then get info and edit whatever I want, everything looks fine except the possibility to edit the track number. Any thought?

You can still edit the track number ... it just involves a scrolling action with the new iTunes.
Go to the song's "Get Info" as you used to do.  Once you open the "Details" tab, scroll down to reveal the track number which you can edit.

  • Drummer track keeps cutting out

I create a drummer track and it works fine for about 10 seconds and then the sound drops out (whether playing manually or playing back regions). If I change the drummer it will go through the same process. Any ideas? Thank you.

No.. it wont be that then....
So next question... Are you using an external audio interface? If so which and are its drivers fully Mavericks compatible?
Also, did you install and are running.. the additional content to the system drive or have you moved it to an external drive? If you installed or moved to an external drive.. what type is it? USB2, USB3, FW or TBolt? What speed does it rotate at  and is it an energy saving(Green) drive?
Finally, if you left it all on the system drive, which type of system drive are you using? Mechanical, Hybrid(Fusion) or SSD and how much RAM do you have installed?

  • I've somehow disabled the New Drummer Track in LogicProX

As a new user of Logic Pro X, I've somehow disabled the New Drummer Track.  When I try to add a new drummer track, in the menu it is a lighter grey and not clickable. What did I do? How can I get it back?
When I have an audio track and select as a drummer track (say Sunset), then the picture of a drum set comes up and I can hear the sounds of each drum - but I can't add any loops, no bars of audio are automatically added.

I see skijumptoes had the answer already:

Hi Mate, it should create a region yes, Can you draw a region in with the pencil/draw tool in the main window and then select it?
...Unless you've not installed any of the content packs maybe? there is an essentials pack (2gb) that should download - You didn't cancel this did you?
