Editing, Duplicating, Watermarking...

Is it me or is iPhoto the most annoying software for anyone who has more than 100 photographs?
I need to EDIT.
So let me get this straight...
Photos go into an EVENT. Then why duplicate a photo to save the ORIGINAL from EDIT, as the ORIGINAL goes everywhere with it. THEY CANNOT BE SEPARATED! ANYWHERE IN ALL OF THE MAC WORLD!!!!
I want to keep the original photo ORIGINAL.
I DID finally through crap and ****, finally MOVE the EDITED "version 2's" into a ^$&@%*& ALBUM......SO WHAT???? WHAT DOES THAT DO FOR ME? NOTHING! Beacuse now I have to WATERMARK only those SINGULAR "version 2's"......
This IS absolutely INSANE.
Nothing drags and drops out of iPhoto into WM SOFTWARE. NOTHING. NOT ONE IMAGE! OH! I get it.....I then have to move each image (out of edited ALBUM) onto my $&*&^(*&$# DESKTOP before doing ANYTHING!
This is not over..
Once all images are WATERMARKED, they then sit in FINDER. SIT,SIT,SIT. Because no way dare I try to get them back into iPhoto because YOU CAN ONLY HAVE ONE IMAGE IN ONE EVENT AT ALL TIMES!! Translate: Each image comes back to iPhoto as A WHOLE EVENT...
Imagine, all these photos all over the %^$*^$(* place.....Scattered everywhere......in iPhoto, on DESKTOP, in FINDER, everywhere but one place.
Which is better for organization? Aperture or Lightroom?
I have 30,000 images, I need to organize these personal photos properly before getting serious (working) with CS6 or DXO or whatever....
Thank you in advance....

karinli,
you are fighting iPhoto instead of using its provided tools - try to understand how the it is supposed to be used and how it can support your workflow.
There is no need to duplicate an image to keep the original - iPhoto will always keep the original for you; you cannot even prevent it.  If you duplicate a photo, it is to have both versions available as separate versions and not only the most recent version, and both will always stay together - that is how iPhoto organizes events. It helps to look at the events as the storage structure and the albums and products as retrieval structure.
You can merge and split events - a new import will create a new event, but you can drag the photo to the event you want.
To edit in an external editor, set it up in iPhotos preferences. When you use an external editor, iPhoto will never modify the original it is keeping. It will send a copy to the external editor.
I think, if you try to use iPhoto the way it is supposed to be used, you will get more joy out of it.

how to edit / remove watermarks after a document is digitally signed ?

    Hello Dave,
    Thank you for your reply.
I have 2 things to mention.
(1)It is possible to do so if I open the document in Acrobat 8.
    (2) Is there any work around solution for X-pro ?
I create a draft document and send it for approval with “draft” watermark.
I receive it back after approval with the approver’s signature.
Then I have to remove the “draft” watermark.
      How can I do it?
    Any suggestion will be appreciated
    Thank you.

  • Cannot Edit Duplicated Compositions(CS6)

    Situation.
    1) Dowloaded a project from Video Copilot.
    2) Imported The Project into the project I'm working on(VCProject into a lyric video)
3)Duplicated The Project IN THE PROJECT BIN(This is still inside a folder, maybe this is my problem)
    4) I still get changes across ALL of the duplicated comps. I copied the precomps and replaced them as well, still gave me the same thing. Ctrl + D'ed and manually copied them.
I know this has been discussed, but I need a clear cut reason as to why this is happening. I've done duplications before so I know I'm not insane in saying I'm doing something wrong, but what is it?
I can upload a video if necessary, I don't think anyone's done that.

Every pre-comp or nested comp that is inside a duplicated comp needs to also be duplicates. AE builds everything in a composition from a reference to source file whether it is footage, a nested comp, or a solid. If the reference, the nested comp, the footage, or even the solid is not changed things don't change in the duplicated comp.
    Did you follow that?

  • How do I edit my existing watermarks

I have recently added watermarks to a whole file of my photos but the watermarks are all the same size & colour font which doesn't suit all of the photos so I need to edit the watermarks. How can I do this in laymans terms. I have asked the adobe community and recieved answers but cannot find the options they are talking about. This has me at my wits end. Please I need to fix this problem.

If you still have originals without watermarks then regenerate the watermarks with different colors and styles of fonts.
If you don’t have any versions of the images other than the ones with watermarks, then those watermarks aren’t really watermarks anymore, they are just part of the images just like any other subject in the image, so you would deal with them the way you deal with any other unwanted image details, by replacing it with other image details via a clone or heal brush or hand-painting in details that you make up entirely from your mind.

  • Adobe X Watermark Editing Problem (Windows Edition)

We normally place an oblique (diagonal) grey watermark in draft pdf documents. Viewers with Acrobat Professional Version 9 could , if they wished (for legibility of technical documents) edit the watermark out on a given page by selecting the watermark text on a  given page and deleting or backspacing over the text and (if they want) save the document.
We have just migrated to Acrobat X Professional. In Acrobat X Professional, doing the same thing leaves a coloured strike-out line in place of the deleted text. How do we make that line transparent or invisible or just go away ? Changing the strike-out colour to white just leaves a white line through the text, obliterating it. In Acrobat 9, the watermark just disappeared, leaving the text of the body of the document intact.
    Many thanks,
    Andrew Waterhouse

Your description is indicative of one using the Comment annotation "Strikethrough (Delete)".
With Acrobat Pro (X, 9, or 8) you can use the Watermark Update feature to modifiy Watermarks.
From the Tools panel open the pages pane. Select Watermark. Select Update.
    Be well...

  • Watermark In LR 4

When editing my watermark in the watermark editor, in LR 4, my watermark does not appear in the preview area, nor does it appear in my exported images.  Thanks

For future troubleshooting purposes, could you tell us which font you were using, and which one you switched to? Thanks.

  • Watermarks in Lightroom 4

Hi. I have Lightroom 4 and was able to get my text watermark to export on my photos until I changed the resolution. Now, even after changing the resolution back, it still won't export the watermark. I've tried deleting and recreating the watermark and it still won't work. I'm getting really frustrated. Can you help me? I've looked at all the settings and have marked the watermark checkbox...I really don't know what else to do.
    Thanks!
    Stephanie

You probably have to edit the watermark, and then re-export the photo.
You can edit the watermark in the Export dialog box, scroll down to Watermarking, check Watermark and then in the dropdown menu, select Edit Watermarks

  • Coldfusion 8,cfdocument, cfpdf, watermark, blank page output?

I'm using cfdocument. No matter whether I use PDF or
Flashpaper as the type, if I specify the "name" attribute it
results in an outputted page that is blank. If I remove the name
attribute, it renders the pdf or flashpaper page.
Why is this happening? I want to use it to create a PDF
onscreen and then add a watermark to the just generated PDF, but
the cfpdf action="addWatermark" requires you to specify the name of
the pdf to add the watermark to. Since I cannot set the name, I
    can't add the watermark.
    What can I do? Thanks.

....if I specify the "name" attribute it results in an outputted
page that is blank. If I remove the name attribute, it renders the
    pdf or flashpaper page.
    Why is this happening?
It is so by design in the cfdocument as well as in the cfpdf
tag. If you specify a name attribute, Coldfusion wont display the
PDF or Flashpaper output, but will hold it in memory as a variable.
    To do the watermark with
cfpdf action="addWatermark" you must specify the source
attribute. That implies that, in the cfdocument that goes before,
you should save the PDF as a file.
Here is an example. Coldfusion will create
myTestDoc.pdf and store it in the current directory. For the
watermark, I wish to use an image stored in the same directory.
Coldfusion will then store the watermarked result as the file
myWatermarkedDoc.pdf. The browser will only display the text
PDF doc watermarked and saved as file.

Hi - Not sure there is a lot you can do, unfortunately.  With that said, I'd definnitely do a reset of the printer:
Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from back of the product.
Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 90 seconds.
Connect the power cord into wall outlet.
Connect the power cord to the back of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button ( ) to turn it on.
    Try the touchpad.
One other thing to try, disconnect if from the computer/router, power it off and see if you have the same problem.  If you're still seeing the same issue after following the steps listed above, it would likely need to be serviced if you want the touchscreen fixed.
    Hope that helps.

  • Watermarks are Unsharp in LR5

    Hi everybody,
I'm getting completely crazy about my watermarks beeing unsharp on my photo's.
I'm using .png files for watermarking.  I have tried multiple techniques as having a document as large as the picture,...
    PLease help me
    B.V.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your answer.
The size of my watermark is 2993 pixels wide.
When I edit the watermark, if I click on the size cursor, the watermark is sharp.  When I click on other settings or export photos, it becomes unsharp.
Here are two printscreens of the sharp and unsharp .
The one on the right look a little bit blurry, and that's the output watermark...
The watermark is originally 2993 X 488 at 118 pixels per cm (i'm european)
The one in the two examples above is huge 12000 X... at 600 p/cm
    Any ideas?

  • Can i recover photos moved from iphoto via finder?

first things first: i made a stupid mistake.
i wanted to share a lot of photos w/ friend via my google drive. i store my photos in iphoto. what i did was that i located the files in finder, selected them and moved the whole lot to my googledrive.
what i have now is a lot of jpg-files in my google drive, size of 33-34k - so i think i've got the thumbnails there.
when i go into iphoto, i only see the outlines of the rectangles which normally contain the thumbnails but not the thumbnails themselves. when i select a rectangle, double click on it, i get to a screen where i would normally get the big picture the thumbnail stands for. now i get a grey screen with an exclamation mark.
however, when i select the "edit" option, the image becomes visible. now there are two kinds of photos in the library - ones which have not been edited, they are as were taken by the camera. and another group which has been edited. unfortunately before i edit a pic, i first make a duplicate, so since all my edited pics are also duplicates, and i have no duplicates which are not edited, i can't tell if the error i am getting is due to the edit or to the duplication: but the unedited ones i am able to duplicate, i am able to send via email from iphoto, but the edited/duplicated ones i cannot.
do you people have any idea how i could secure my edited pics?
    thank you very much.
    gábor

If you are lucky, and only moved the thumbnails folder from your iPhoto library, use iPhoto's built-in Library First Aid Tools to rebuild the thumbnails.
    Quit iPhoto.
Hold down the key combination ⌘⌥ firmly, and continue to hold it down, while double clicking the iPhoto icon to launch ipHoto in "First Aid" mode.
From the panel that appears, select "rebuild Thumbnails":
I hope, that will restore the thumbnails. You may want to follow this by "repair database".
Don't remove, rerame, or change anything inside an iPhoto database. That will corrupt your library for sure.

  • Acrobat X: SDI vs. MDI

I'd like to coninue this thread, because I believe it's important:
Acrobat and Acrobat Reader are strongly missing the MDI feature.
Probably the biggest share of "common" users will only open a single document at a time. But there are others around that sometimes have more than one single document open and who don't want to get their screen cluttered up with Acrobat documents.
From the thread above there's a Hyperlink to the Acrobat blog, justifying why MDI has been removed from the Acrobat GUI.
I believe the reasons given in there are wrong:
Feature Parity with Macintosh was desired. As stated before, the Mac OS does not have this option. While I will be the first to admit that feature parity is not 100% between Windows and Macintosh, it is a goal that we aim for.
As written at the top of the blog, "MDI is not applicable on the Mac OS." So this is simply a system feature not available to Mac OS but to Windows. Parity in regard to system environment can never be achieved. Otherwise, Acrobat would have to strip keyboard support, because smartphones like the IPhone lack the presence of a keyboard.
Utilizing MDI is quite transparent to the software when being programmed properly. The client area to draw into won't be different. And the Mac OS will simply display like an MDI environment with just one document in it.
In version 8, we made SDI the default in the viewing mode. Making SDI default, but still providing MDI in version 8 was done to start the deprecation of MDI.
This is no reason at all. It's just a description of a decision you made.
Microsoft advised that to work as good as possible on Vista, applications should avoid MDI.
MDI is currently still available in any document centric Microsoft application. And it's available in any current document centric Adobe software - except for Acrobat.
WPF is commonly used as the successor of MDI, yet multiple-document GUIs are fully supported in Windows.
Acrobat and Adobe Reader’s new UI modes would not work with MDI. Form editing mode, portfolio mode, and portfolio preview mode all wanted a complete refresh of the UI. MDI mode always left a bit of the UI skin under the care of an MDI main frame, so there would have had been no way for those UI modes to re-skin that part of the UI if MDI mode was left in place.
Perfoming these modes in MDI, WPF or any other multi-document environment would just have been a matter of good program design. Nothing more.
And again, if Mac OS does not support MDI, it's still possible to abstract the display concept to address SDI/MDI differences transparently in the Acrobat application. Microsoft Office even demonstrates how this is done: In all the MS Office applications there is an option to switch between MDI/SDI ("Show in Task bar").
A cost compelling reason was that MDI and SDI mode essentially became another view mode in which all work flows had to be tested. This increases the cost of testing the product and the cost of fixing bugs. Often a fix to a bug in one view mode would cause adverse reactions in the other view mode. The decision to support only one view mode on Windows was made to simplify this. Furthermore, more time spent in this area could mean less time spent developing and fixing bugs in other areas.
That's true, alright. - But automated testing tools also decrease the cost of testing. And as far as I know, testers do not develop software. That's the developers' task. So performing more testing in this area does not result into spending less time for developing. This is particularly true once the framework had been established to deal with MDI/SDI transparently.
I strongly suggest to return to MDI. The implementation classes should still be available from Acrobat 8. Perhaps they'd need a redo in order to support a better, transparent program design.

Acrobat was never a part of Creative Suite, it was merely included in the collections. The CS applications were developed by a different unit within Adobe to the 'enterprise' applications like Acrobat and LiveCycle. The creative business unit developed their own interface system (OWL) but it wasn't adopted by the other teams as it was specifically designed for one type of user, who worked on multi-screen hardware with highly customized desktops and took the time to really learn the software in depth.
The same is true of the consumer programs (Lightroom, etc.) - their target users have different hardware and skill levels, and their UIs reflects that. A Lightroom user doesn't need workspaces, and by discounting that the UI is free to implement something that makes more sense to photographers. In the OWL UI, you tend to have multiple information streams presented to the user in different panels, rather like an aircraft cockpit. The user is doing something with one tool, but can pull information from other panels as required. If they're editing text they need to see the swatches and styles panels. In Acrobat however, the workflow is single-task-based. You pick a tool, do something with it, then pick another tool. While you're editing a watermark there's no reason you would want to see the ink manager dialog or the XMP metadata.
Of course I see the logic in having a tabbed interface, but for everyone it pleases there'll be someone who begrudges the space taken up by the tabs on their netbook screen, or the fact they can't drag one file onto a second monitor. Adobe would have to keep both interface options so you could switch between them, and that pretty much doubles the workload on every release.
I'm not saying that going forward there's no chance of a tabbed interface ever appearing in the Acrobat Family, but with respect the target users tend to get lost when the UI reinvents itself. Acrobat is just a tool like the photocopier for most people, they aren't going to spend weeks learning it as they would with Photoshop. Open>Redact>Save>Email, all day every day. Adobe's target customers (big enterprises) see any change, even one that "improves" the UI, as a nightmare of retraining and reduced productivity.
    BendersonMath wrote:
Actually, let me say something about homogeny of user experience. It seems like a fairly reasonable approach to this challenge is to come up with a UI that is intuitive based on knowledge users can be assumed to have from other UIs they can be assumed to be using. Acrobat's approach seems to be to come up with its own UI that is not only completely unlike the major OSes, but also unlike everything else Adobe does. Dividing Acrobat from Windows, Mac, etc. — sure, that's only fair. But why divorce it from the rest of its own sister products? The results have been strange.

  • Lightroom Library Accessible across network?

Is there a way to have the library and all edits, etc. available to multiple users on a network? I work with four other photographers and a couple of art directors who all have access to a single server loaded up with tetrabytes of images sorted by assignments in respective folders. We've been using ACR and Bridge to view, assign metadata, and edit, duplicating RAW files for multiple processing interpretations, etc. I'm interested in seeing if Lightroom will help with our workflow, but a centralized library is absolutely necessary to start. Thanks for any help.

    >As I understand it, the library itself won't be accessible on the network in v1.
johnbeardy, "Lightroom Library Accessible across network?" #1, 31 Jan 2007 7:24 am
That's what I heard as well. It's a shame as with the advent of cheap NAS storage, it is very common for photographers to have all their data on the network and only the applications on the computer.
I don't have a need for multiple users of the same library, but I do need to keep the library on NAS storage. That should be a simple fix for Adobe to implement. It's also an important fix as there have been several instances of people on the labs forums finding that they could not install Lightroom as they had redirected their "My Documents" directory (on Windows) onto a network mount.
Full multi-user support is more complex and probably does require a database transplant to something with a more advanced locking concept than SQLite.
