Editing DVD, NEED HELP!

Hey everyone! I just got a NON-COPYRIGHTED DVD which I need
to delete and add a new first scene on. I saved the Video_TS folder
to me PC, but it wont let me add the files (VOBs ETC)
How can I edit this DVD with Director? Or can I not edit
DVDs

oates151 wrote:

Thats why I bought it....... Like cant u save it to ur PC and edit
the VOBs?
Hi,
As was said before, Director cannot edit DVD video. You will
need a video editing program like Premiere. Director can read
chapers
from a DVD or allow you to play sections of a DVD. Director
does not allow DVD authoring. Any application you create will have
to
run off a computer (Mac or PC). It does not allow output to a
TV DVD player.

  • Problem burning DVDs, NEED HELP QUICK

    Hey,
I need help as soon as possible. I am using iMovieHD 5.0.2, along with iDVD 5.0.1. I have made a movie about 8 minutes long and all in all it totals 7.68Gigs, and i've tried burning it to a dvd. I did all the steps it says to, going to Share, sharing it with iDVD, then trying to burn it in iDVD. Yet whenever it asks me to insert a recordable dvd, i do, and the computer fails to recognize it. I am using a DVD-R, 4.7GB discs, 4x. I then realized that the movie i was trying to burn was larger than this disc, which might be the problem. I then created a 200mb movie and tried, but the same problem happened. My G5 is not recognizing the blank dvds, yet when i insert a dvd that was made a while ago from a different source, yet the same type of dvd, it plays fine.
The problem seems to be in recognizing the blank DVD, and im pretty sure that its compatible with this computer, being that it plays when theres already a movie on it.
Can someone please help me quickly, this is for a production company and we're losing out every day that i dont get this done. Thanks a million.

I don't have an answer, but as an initial diagnostic step, try loading a blank DVD while iDVD is not running. First open your System Preferences and select the CD/DVD icon. Make sure the options selected do not say "Ignore". Then load a blank disc. Depending on your preferences, you should get some sort of reaction - either a burn window opens or you get a prompt asking you what to do. If there's no reaction from the Finder, it would indicate that the drive is not recognizing the blank DVD. This would be either a hardware or a media compatibility problem. Only way to tell for sure is to run out and try a different brand of media.

So I've been reading the forum and through some research I've seen a good option for a mobo is X58 ASUS P6X58D-E LGA - but I've been reading the plethora of problems and I know me and I am definitely not a tech savvy guy when it comes to making these machines - I was wondering what a good alternative would be as it seems to have nice features like USB 3.0

That small adjusment that you mention is to increase the ram multi for the
    folow result:
    RAM multi 10= 1333 mhz
    RAM multi 12= 1596 mhz
In both cases we must increase the QPI Link Speed. Its like making OC of the
ram which can be a little complex for a normal user.
About the Latency I cannot say more. Only hope that BillG publishes my

I don’t believe RAM latency is anywhere near as important as your processor
choice. You have devised a good configuration. Its not imperative to over
clock; Premiere CS5 will work great with your configuration! I will
reemphasize, “Know (make sure) people are using your mother board/ RAM
combination successfully” just as an indicator you aren’t climbing out onto
a limb that has never been tried. More RAM is more important than faster
Ram, but with 12GB you will be editing like a madman.

  • Best Quality too big for DVD. need help

    Hi,
I just completed a movie using iMovie. I compressed the movie as a Quicktime file at best quality and it is 6gb. I understand that this is too big for the 4.7gb dvd-r's i have.
I wanted to know the best way to get my movie to fit while still mainting the best possible quality. This project is very important and i need it to be able to play on a home dvd player tomorrow.
    I'm using iDVD.
Can somebody please help me out.
    Thank you so much

    Hi Karl,
first of all: on this forum, my guess is, you are the one with the deepest insight in iMovie (one word: corrupted projects... oops, that was two).
    BUT...
My job for more then 20 years is communication, advertisement as an example. make the message in less then 8 words...
Apples says: 60/120 minutes of an iM project fit on a dvd-r.Full stop.
that is from my p.o.v crystal-clear..HOW is this done? easy: make project, click "iDVD" - BOOM! done... to quote the CEO of a small computer company...
people buy cars without ANY idea, what ABS, EPS, etc is, besides HOW it works. they use it. full stop. anyone any idea, what happens, when you push the pedal...? ... when the car DOESN'T accelerate, you realize, you have NO clue...-
funny enough, this forum is CROWDED with people, who don't own a driver's license, but try to explain, the car manufacturer has done big bugs, lots of mistakes, should fix that & this.- you CAN use a car, to boil eggs, iron your shirts and create a painting... but THAT would need a better understanding of how a car works.
topics which are/can not understood lead to what the behaviorism calls "superstitious behavior" - you do some really weird things, because you believe it has any effect....
so, sometimes, less knowledge leeds to better results
(from a communicator's point of view)
I agree, maybe the "help" files should offer an "expert" mode....

  • Brand new at copying DVDs - need help.

Hope that I am in the right forum. I'm brand new at using DVD copying since I've only had this computer for about a week. I've had problems in copying my home video DVDs on DVD+R discs which were created on a Sony DVD recorder. These are obviously not copy protected. I tried making a copy for a friend but ran into problems, phoned Apple and followed their instructions for copying and burning -R discs but that didn't work for me. On my follow up call, they suggested that the problem may be either the +R disc (rather than -R) or the fact that the discs were not burned on a computer but rather on the recorder. They suggested the use of other software. So I searched the web andI downloaded something called Mac the Ripper and using the dialog box in that program, do have the contents of one disc on my hard drive as far as I know. But I don't know how to copy (burn) onto a blank disc either using this same program or something else. In other words, what are my next step by step instructions to burn what I hope I have on the hard drive onto a blank disc - I still have +R discs left so I'll likely be using them. Thanks for any help.

From all the helpful information posted here, I have found out that copying DVDs is not quite as straightforward as I had hoped it would be using my new computer. I would have to purchase software which isn't supplied on my iMac such as Toast or Popcorn to do the job as far as I have found out from a number of sources. Toast is a bit more costly than I want to spend for just this one task although Popcorn is more reasonable. I am beginning to think that for the few DVDs that I really need to copy for my friend, the easiest route is to use my DVD recorder, transfer the contents of the DVD to the hard drive on my recorder (yes, the recorder does have a 160 GB HD) and then burn a blank DVD from the recorder's hard drive which is what I have done dozens of times in the past. Of course, it takes 2 hours to transfer the video from a DVD (assuming it has 2 hours of video on it) to the hard drive and then only about 4 - 7 minutes to burn the video onto a blank DVD from the HD of the recorder. Using the computer, I had hoped to reduce the time it takes for that first 2 hour step with the recorder. I'm not even sure if Popcorn would significantly reduce the time for transferring the video from the DVD onto the computer. I'll have to evaluate whether or not the cost of something like Popcorn is really worthwhile for me. Thank goodness, copying audio CDs is much more straightforward on the computer. Thanks for all the help.

  • Advanced Title Editing ( I need help)

Ok so I'm working on a project of my own and need some help. I know how to make a see through title so that only my title shows and through the text shows my video but now I want to take that title with the video underneath and put that on top of another video clip. So for those that don't follow:
Clip 1 has see through text on it but you can only see the video underneath the title through the text. Now how do I take clip 1 with title and overlay just the title with clip 1 underneath onto another clip?
I hope that makes sense.... I don't know if there is a specific name for this action but I'm completely new to adobe premiere and am trying to figure this out

put a track matte key on your video and set the matte to the text above it. See if that if what you were looking for.

  • IMovie 10.0.2/Project disappeared, not editable anymore, need HELP!?

Following problem occured on my Mac. Some days ago I created a new video with the plain/simple project template. All worked fine, I was able to upload it to Youtube and post-editing workes also fine.
So, some days later (today) I wanted to reuse the video and the projekt is not shown anymore in iMovie with the result that I cannot reuse it.
    For the record:
I am still on the same library and have not changed it
The files and the event (project) definition file is still stored and available in the library package if you look into it with Finder. (Looks like projects are stored in SQLite Format)
The shared video in its MOV format is still in the library package
The source files are still stored in the package and are also available within iMovie
Any ideas to get the project back into iMovie to be able to edit/re-use it? Is there any hidden feature to rebuild iMovie libraries?
    Thanks in advance

    No, I did not.
Meanwhile I have found the reason for the projects disappear in my libraries! The problem is caused by using the dash "#" symbol in my project names.
I have created another project with a dash in the name and the project also disappeared in iMovie with the same effect that the underlying data was still in die library.
Apple should release a warning that some special characters are not allowed to be used in project names or better should solve this.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Dual Language DVDs - need help asap!

    Hi,
I've got a DVD which needs to be in two languages. I have an 'audio selection' menu with the English & Spanish selections.
I've been able to get the audio on the video track to change accordingly to which language is selected but how to I get the menus to display the correct language.
I made the menus with both languages so if you change the language display it shows the right one, but is there a script or something I can do, so if you are on the 'audio selection' menu and click the 'spanish' button it changes the text to display the right language on the menus.
    Thanks in advance
    Beckie

Hi Beckie - the way I might approach this is to use a menu to select the appropriate language from the beginning - give the viewer a menu which asks them to select from English or Spanish. Once the selection is made, use a few small scripts to store the choice as a value (i.e. from the English selection store a '1' in a GPRM, or a '2' for Spanish).
From then on, you can use that value to know exactly which language stream to play and which menu set to return to - you need to use a script each time to see what the value stored is, then act accordingly.
For example, if a user selects 'Spanish' then set the button to go to a script:
    mov GPRM0, 2
    Jump SpanishMainMenu
the user can then select the track, but you already know they want to hear it in Spanish, so set every option from this menu to play the Spanish audio. When the track finishes you set the end jump to a script:
    Jump EnglishMainMenu If (GPRM0 = 1)
    Jump SpanishmainMenu If (GPRM0 = 2)
If you have a lot of sub menus then you'll need to use a few more scripts, but essentially they are as easy as the above two examples.

  • Editing jpegs- need help!!

    hi guys,
with fireworks whats the best way to accurately change the
colour of a jpeg, particularly one such as in the url with a
gradient? I cant figure it out!
    picture link!

I'm sticking with Fireworks CS3 for the time being, so if
you're on CS4 I'm quite sure this will be slightly different. But
if you select your image with the black pointer, and then navigate
to the "filters" panel at the bottom of the screen and press the
"plus" icon, you'll be presented with several options. Go to
"Adjust Color" then "Hue/Saturation". Try various combinations of
the sliders to get it in the ballpark. You can also try Adjust
Color > Color Overlay. With that method you can fill the entire
object with color and then lower the opacity of the fill. Sometimes
combining those two techniques can be quite effective. You'll soon
discover that you'll want to "mask" the image though, ie remove it
from it's background. There's a topic discussing just that a few
posts down and it's covered quite often in this forum.
    Good luck!

  • Desperately needs help burning DVD from iPhoto

I am using iPhoto 6.0.6. I desperately need help burning a DVD of a slide show that I created for my daughter's wedding.
I put several songs together by opening them and then combining them using QuickTime Pro. I imported the audio into iTunes and created a slide show using iPhoto. The slide show is perfect! The slides are finally in sink with the music just as I want them! But I don't know how to burn the slide show as a DVD.
I tried exporting the video from iPhoto to my computer, but at the end of the export, I get this message: please note that the music included in the slideshow can only be played on authorized machines. And when I try to play the video (after the export), most of the music on the video cannot be heard. When I try to authorize my machine, I am told that it's already authorized.
If someone would send detailed instructions on how to proceed, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Greg

Is your problem the DRM audio tracks you purchased from iTunes store?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Some DVDs not playing in my iMac, need help!

some orginial / genuine DVDs not playing in my iMac, need help!

Once your husband copied the movies, did he use a burn software to burn them to a DVD? You need to use a burn software to properly encode the footage so it'll play in any DVD player/computer/TV. So, once the movie is copied to your hard drive, you can edit it in iMovie (may need a converter first to get it into a format iMovie can work with such as MPEG Streamclip); after you're done in iMovie, use iDVD if you have it or Roxio Toast to burn it to a DVD.
And for the OP: Regions are different depending on where the movie was made: the US, Europe, etc. The regions are set within DVD player  - you insert a DVD and the player reads what region it originated in. Please note you can only change regions 5 x; after the 5th, that setting will remain and can't be changed again.

  • Need Help Building a Graphic Design/Video Editing PC

Greetings everybody, my name is David, and I'm hoping to get a little assistance building a computer system either from scratch or from a couple of computers I have picked out.
I hope this that doesn't sound unrealistic but I only have around $600 in my budget to build a Graphic Designer machine. My intentions are to get a subscription to Adobe cloud so I would have access to all of Adobe CS6 products. (I won’t be using any of the Touch or Game developers applications.)
I would like to post two links to two machines that I picked out that are in my price range and would like some advice as to whether or not either one of these machines have enough processing power to be able to handle all Adobe CS 6 products.
I am aware that neither one of these machines have a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and that I would have to purchase one and add it. Which leads me to my first question; are the processors on either one of these machines capable of handling a GPU that is on the Adobe recommended list for processors?
And secondly, if I were to build a machine from scratch, is $600 enough to build a machine that is capable of handling Adobe CS6  products? When building a machine from scratch can you tell me what the minimum requirements are for a motherboard? Or are there any sites that offer specific advise for building PC's for graphic design?
I noticed after looking through the list of recommended graphics processing units that the majority of those are very expensive, in the $500-$3000 range. Can you please recommend a graphics processing unit that is in the $200-$300 range that would be fully adequate to handle Adobe products? Also what things do I need to take into consideration when building the machine from scratch to ensure that all my hardware is capable of handling Adobe CS6 products.
What do I need to add to either one of these prebuilt computers to make them Adobe-ready, If they are in fact worthy at all?
Here are the links for two machines that I have picked out:
    http://www.costco.com/HP-Pavilion-p6t-Desktop%2c-Intel%C2%AE-Core%E2%8 4%A2-i3-2130-3.4GHz.product.100010197.html

I do realize that neither one of these machines have a graphics card in them. Can you tell by looking at the specifications on either one of these machines, whether or not your typical graphics card would fit inside the case If they are indeed worthy in all other respects?
And I realize that I mentioned that I only had $600 to spend, however if either one of these prebuilt machines are powerful enough in all other respects, I don't have an issue waiting a month or two before buying the graphics card and installing a little bit later.
Thank you in advance for your input.
    Sincerely,
    David

Your HP Costco link results in an out of stock message
Your ZT Costco link is very likely NOT expandable due to the VERY small power supply... so you will likely NOT be able to add a video card later
For PPro video editing you want an nVidia graphics adapter http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith/GPU.HTM and even the low power nVidia may be too much for that computer
Also, for video editing, you need a MINIMUM of 2 hard drives... and trying to edit HiDef video with an i5 will be a study of waiting for things to happen
As Harm said... a $600 computer will work for everything EXCEPT video editing
This DIY list is just about twice your budget, but it will work for video editing

It's worth a try, as the DVR-115 is a good drive. They don't make them any more........

  • Need help in installing Snow Leopard without DVD drive

    Hi,
I have a White Macbook 2008 model with 2.1 ghz processor and 1 GB Ram. The dvd rom is not working in my machine. It spits out the dvd's 99 out of 100 times.
I need to upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6. Apple has sent me a single disk to install snow leopard.
I am not willing to invest in new dvd drive either internal or external. Needed help on ways to install snow leopard please apart from using the dvd option.
I do have a Firewire 400 cable but i do not know anybody anymore who has a mac machine with 400 port.
Hence the cable is also useless and i cannot connect to anyother macbook and do the install using their drive.
    Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Rahul

There are no direct options. Find a friend with a Mac that has a working optical drive. Buy an 8GB USB flash drive. Partition and format it for the Mac then clone the mounted DVD to the flash drive. Take it back to your computer and boot from the flash drive.
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the disk icon for the flash drive.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
