Editing email address

Hi.
Is there a way to edit your email address in icloud? I set my @me.com address with a spelling mistake and need to correct it but i cant for the life of me find how to edit it or even delete the whole thing and start again.
Neil

Welcome to the Apple Community.
you can't change your main @me.com address. Your options are to create an alias or create a new iCloud account with the correct spelling.

  • Bug in editing email addresses - Mailto: link doesn't update

Numbers has a bug in the way email addresses work when they are edited. When entering an email address, it automatically is recognized as an email address and is made blue with a mailto: link when you hover over it. But when you edit the address, the text is changed but the _old link_ stays.
    Try this:
    1) Enter [email protected] in a cell and hit enter. The address shows up blue and hovering shows the mailto:[email protected].
    2) Triple click to the right of the text (so you don't activate the link). This selects the whole text. Type a new address [email protected] and hit enter. The new text shows up blue.
    3) Hover over the cell to see a surprise. It's the old link!
You can also do it like this:
    1) same as 1) above.
    2) double click on the cell to make the cursor appear in the cell. Using the arrow keys, edit the email to [email protected] and hit enter.
    3) Hover. The link is not updated!
    Or like this:
    1) same
    2) using the arrow keys, come to the cell. Click once to make the cursor appear. Edit. Hit enter.
    3) same problem!
Here's the only way that seems to work:
    2) using arrow keys, come to the cell, do NOT CLICK. Start typing - this will replace the entire contents of the cell.
    3) hover now shows the correct link.
So editing an email address in Numbers does not update the link. You have to completely replace the email address.
I discovered this while trying to figure out why people whose addresses had been updated were not receiving email, and happened to hover, and saw the old address in the mailto: link.
I am now going through all my email lists, hovering to see if the link is what it's supposed to be, and correcting the ones that are wrong. If you have updated email addresses in Numbers, you will no doubt need to do this as well.
I sent Apple feedback, and also called them. They are able to reproduce the bug and escalated it. Does anyone else have this issue with email addresses in Numbers?
If so, please send feedback to Apple at
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/numbers.html
    and let them know.

    Terrell,
I understand your feelings. Until we're familiar with a process, and especially if the process isn't well enough documented, it may seem to be poorly thought out (designed) or even improperly executed. It's been my experience through about four and a half years of Applecare support that after you've been watching this forum for six months or so you know more about iWork than 90% of the first responders at Apple Support. The bottom line is that if you're passionate in making your case about something that you are having trouble with, it's pretty easy to convince them that something is broken when it may be just fine. The worst several months of my computer life experience came after that support crew led me through an ill-advised and improperly executed OS reinstall, for no good reason. But I digress.
So how do you want the Hyperlink insertion/editing process to work? The current process is as follows:
To insert a Hyperlink, you type in a URL or email address and Numbers makes a guess as to what type of link it is. That couldn't be much easier. You can override the link-type designation in the Inspector.
Then you decide to give the link an alias. You open the Hyperlink Inspector and deactivate the links using the "Make all links inactive" checkbox so that when you click on the link text in the cell it won't go into operation. You enter the new name for the link in the table cell, reactivate the link by un-checking the "Make links inactive" box, and you're done. At this point the link address is displayed and efficiently editable in the Inspector text box and the alias is displayed in the table cell. Pretty unambiguous and convenient. There may be other ways to get to this result, as often is the case.
But you say: "I don't care about making an alias, I just want to edit the actual address." Well, you have to use the Inspector, or you have to start over. That's the price for having the option to add an alias. It's a design decision, and a feature, but not a bug. Could it be enhanced for convenience? Of course it could. Perhaps an "Edit Link" option on the contextual menu that would take you directly to the Inspector would be nice. But let's not make this program any larger and complex than it has to be. And, let's be sure that the things we escalate to the design team are really the things we want them to be spending their limited time on.

    Jerry

  • Can't edit email address

If I forward an email, or reply to all I can't edit the address. If one is incorrect and the email bounces there seems to be no way to edit the address. Am I missing something obvious?

    Allan Sampson wrote:
You mean edit an incorrect email address after the message is sent and the message bounces for the incorrect email address?
If a message is sent to multiple recipients and the messages bounces for one incorrect email address with an return email error message for the incorrect email address, the message is delivered to the other recipients with a correct email address. You need to re-sent the message for the one incorrect email address to the correct email address.
A message that cannot be sent and is placed in the Outbox mailbox has not bounced since it hasn't been sent. Is this what you are referring to?
Not quite. I just want to correct an incorrect email address. I had multiple addresses separated with commas but left out one comma. The two addresses were read as one incorrect address and I wanted to simply resend the message but could not add the missing comma.

  • Edit email address in iCal

I want to edit the email alert to a new email address. How do I do this?

I figured this out. I did not update my Address Book email. Once done, all works.

  • Cannot edit email address in sync settings in android firefox. BUG

If the email address is incorrect, I think I have a space in front, you cannot verify and firefox will not let you edit or delete until it is verified. I am left in no mans land.

    Hi glennh,
You can delete the account from this link [about:accounts].
However you will need to create a new account with the email with no space in front in order to receive a verification email.
This is expected. At this time you cannot edit the account name after it has been created.

  • Restoring my ability to edit email addresses in my address book.

Every time I edit an address in the AB it doesn't reflect in Mail, it will change temporally then when I launch Mail again nothing is changed.
    Thank You.

On the Mac, Mail and Address Book are independent applications.
Is the dock (toolbar of icons for application shortcuts and currently running apps) showing? If so, there will likely be in it the address book icon - a little brown book with an "@" on it. Click this to run AB. Otherwise, click on the Home icon to bring up a directory window; in the list on the left side should be an icon for the Applications directory; click it to switch to the appls listing, and there double click the entry for AB.

  • How can I edit email address for a contact name

befor the update, we had a command called Contacts through which I could edit names of contacts who changed their address. I cannot find such a command on the new page.

That is a question related to whatever email system you use, not your browser. You may wish to ask the question at the support website for that particular system.

  • How to edit email address present in a SP2010 list

    HI,
In the SP2010 list "Request Page", whenever a user submits a request an automated email goes to a specific email id reagrding the submission of request.
I donot know how the internal procedure is done as i am totally new to SP . I tried going to List permission and checking the "Manage Access Request" for any presence of email id. But, i did not find any.
The current requirement is that i have to change that email id and put mine . I have no clue as to where i should go and change the email id.
I donot have the dev environment. Whatever i have to do , i need to do OOTB as no coding whatsoever has been done during designing this site.
Please let me know how i can do this OOTB .
    Regards,
    Anena

It sounds like there is a workflow in place, if I'm understanding the scenario correctly. When viewing the List, go to Workflow Settings in the ribbon and see if there are any workflows attached to the List.
If there are, you can edit them with SharePoint Designer 2010 (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16573). If the workflow was developed in Visual Studio, then you will need to find the author with the source code.

    UDPATE:
Spoke with Express lane, and issue was escalated.  Kudos to the support guys that handled this one (Brian and Yi).  Went through everything in detail and took all the crash dumps off the iphones and ipads to send to engineering.
After backing up the contacts, the recommendation was to delete all contacts in  iCloud.  Doing that caused my iCloud to crash (in the browser), so more crash dumps were sent to apple.
Eventually got all contacts deleted, then did a resync.  Looks like IOS devices are coming back to life and syncing again.
Also, Outlook iCloud connector has just been updated to ver 1.0.1 so i installed that on their recommendation.
    BOTTOM LINE workaround:
    1. Backup contacts
    2. Delete contacts in iCloud
    3. Delete accounts on IOS devices
    4. Recreate accounts on IOS devices.
Hoping a real root cause can be found and real fix implemented.  This has caused me to doubt the stability of iCloud, so i will procees with caution.

  • How do I change my alternate apple id from the old email address I no longer use? I am not given an edit option. Thx

How do I change my alternate apple id which is an old email address I no longer use? I am not given an edit option. This old email address has already been removed from alternate email options but does not want to leave the alternate ID position! Thx

Your apps were purchased under the old ID, so they will have to be deleted and re-purchased/downloaded under your new one.

  • HT1918 My iPhone and my iPod have different account email addresses, I would like to sync them.  When I try to change (using edit) it reminds me that I already have an account with that name.  I don't need the reminder, I need to change the email address

I used different email addresses when I signed up for my iPod and my iPhone.  I would like to use only ONE email address for both devices.  When I try to edit, it tells me there is already a user with that address (hint:  I know that!).  Does anyone know how to sync two email accounts into one?  Thanks,

When I go into my account settings and try to change my old hotmail address to my current Yahoo! address, it tells me "That email address is already used as an Apple ID."  Yeah, I know that.  I set up the account that I'd really, really, like to have together, but it won't let me go further.  End of activity!  It is trusting that my email account and password are correct b/c it will let me make purchases, etc., so it's not like it is preventing fraud or anything.   Summary:  iPod = Yahoo!, iPhone = hotmail, would like to have both reflect my Yahoo! address.

  • Can I change my iCloud email address? I do not see a way to edit it.

Can I change my iCloud email address? I do not see a way to edit it.

Jeffrey is correct: but you do have the option to add up to three 'email aliases' which are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main address. Indeed it's a good idea to give out an alias address rather than the master address, in case of spam or other problems: you easily delete an alias without impinging on the behaviour of the rest of the account.
There seem to be problems at the moment about creating aliases, so if you find you can't, give it a couple of days and try again.

You should be aware that, once created, aliases can't be moved to another account, nor turned into full accounts, nor reactivated once deleted.

  • HT4436 How can I edit my Icloud email address using the same Apple ID?

How is the best option I have to edit or change my Icloud email address?

Unfortunately, you cannot change your primary @me.com or @icloud.com email address, you could however create an alias or create a completely new account.

I'm trying to change my security questions but I can't. Because it won't let me edit my primary email address any answers.
