Editing Frame by Frame

I'm trying to find a turorial on how to edit an object out frame by frame. I know I can clone it out, but doing so creates a heat wave effect in the area since it's different per frame. Also, how do I click through every single frame to make sure I get them all?
Here's what I got. I have a video where as soon as a character moves out of the way, a light stand is seen. I simple want to remove the light stand as he moves.
One way I tried was to create an image where I completely removed the stand when the character is completely out of the way. Then paint out that image frame by frame around the character. So when he's there, the image is painted out. But as he moves, I start painting it in, frame by frame.
But I can't seem to edit the image layer frame by frame. It remains the same on all frames. If I erase an area, it's on all the frames instead of the one.
I tried pasting the image in a blank video layer, but it only stayed in one frame.
How am I suppose to do this job in photoshop?

Welcome to the forum.
Am I correct that you are trying to edit Video, at a Frame by Frame level? If so, what you are talking about is Rotoscoping, and can be effective, albeit tedious.
Now, when removing an obect, the Clone Stamp is a good place to start, but one must be careful, and go slowly. The Healing Tools can be very useful too, and is often used in conjunction with the Clone Stamp.
Now, if you are NOT doing Rotoscoping, please let us know a bit more about what you are attempting to do.

  • How to edit frame-by-frame and export results in H264?

I wish to edit some videos and then export them in H264 so I can use them on a website.
I have tried to edit with iMovie 08 but can only edit second-by-second. I want to edit frame-by-frame ie to the millisecond. And it appears that iMovie 08 does not export in H264.
I have looked at iMovie 11 which has a Precision Editor which would work to edit as I want but for that I would have to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard which I don't want. It would export H264.
I also have QuickTime Player 7 Pro but that too seems to edit only by the second not by the frame; it does however seem to produce H264
How can I edit these videos precisely and produce H264? Is there another application which would work better (and doesn't cost a fortune).
    Thanks for any ideas

  • What is this error: "The item is not on an edit frame boundary."?

I exported XML from one computer and imported into another and got the message: Final Cut Pro encountered an error importing the XML file.  The error log says: "The item is not on an edit frame boundary (durations+"80679599/3000000s": /fcpxml{1}/project{1} /clip[934]/video[1]/@duration).  What does this mean???? I searched discussions and found no mention of an error or anything else having to do with edit frame foundaries.
The library involved was copied to another computer, the project edited, and exported as XML back to the original computer.  With the above error message.  All the event clips came across fine, but the 4 projects that were in the Event did not import back to the original computer.
    Both computers:
    Mac OS 10.9.2
    FCPX 10.1.1
Source material in "Original" H.264 format.  Edit format is native format.
Does this mean I have to use all I frame format to use XML import/export??
    thanks
    Rick

    Hi,
I searched for the similar error log, the issue is finally solved by adding more drive space even though they though there is plenty space already.

  • Edit frame in external editor?

Sorry for the newbie question. Is there an easy way to edit frames in an external editor (Photoshop, whatever)?
I have some video take from film that has some scratches I'd like to clean up. It's only a handful of frames, so it would be easy to do in a photo editor. I suppose I could export a frame or frame sequence, edit them, and import them back in. The problem is that I'd need to match up the stills to their original frames, make the the right length, etc. Not impossible, but certainly not simple. I'm hoping there's an easier way?
By the way, I tried the manual "object remover" method, which involves a cloned clip placed over the clip in question, and cropping/transforming to cover the scratch with a section from somewhere else, but in this particular instance there's no easy place to get a cover-up section that matches. (Hope that made sense.)
    Ideas?
    Dan

Thanks for the reply. I have SliceX, but as I mentioned in my post, for these particular videos, there's no good area from which to clone. I suppose it would be possible, but *very* tedious to get the selection that exact. Perhaps I'm just not coordinated enough.
I've discovered a workflow which works well for me - easier than I thought it would be. I'll show it here, in case it helps anyone else:
Isolate the frames in question by using the Blade tool and separating them into their own section - this makes lining up the result frames easier when you paste them back in.
Export the section as a frame sequence.
Import the frames in iPhoto. I know, this sounds silly, but actually, iPhoto's Touchup tool is awesome for tasks like this. Way better (to me) than Adobe Photoshop Elements.
In iPhoto, when you start editing a frame, it has a strip at the bottom showing all the frames, and it's easy to switch between frames. This makes it easy to verify your touchups against the other frames.
When done, I choose to drag the files from iPhoto to a folder. I suppose you could also import them inside FCPX from its reference to iPhoto - but this seemed easier to me. Perhaps I'm wrong - I will try the other way next time.
iPhoto does reduce the image quality slightly - I'm guessing this, since the file sizes are much smaller. But for what I'm working on, it's not noticeable.
I drag the photos back into the Event, and into the original timeline.
I select all of them, hit Ctrl+D and change the duration to 1 frame.
Voila! Done. Not so hard after all. I'm amazed that iPhoto makes this so easy.
The only thing that iPhoto does that makes this a slightly longer process, is that when you switch from frame to frame, it resets the Zoom & Pan, and un-selects the Touchup tool. Not that big a deal, but if you've zoomed and panned to a specific place, it would be nice if all the frames opened up the same way, so you can check your results against the other frames. I wonder if Adobe Photoshop Elements does this - I'll have to check. As I said, not the end of the world. But *so* close to perfection...
All in all, I can remove a scratch from, say, 15 frames, pretty quickly. I'll have to time myself next time I do this, now that I've got the workflow down.

  • FCPX XML import error "edit frame boundary"

    Hello,
I'm attemting to import an XML file into FCPX from Davinci Resolve and am continually getting an error log message which contains the following: "the item is not on an edit frame boundary." I'm working with raw CDNG files from a 5D Mark III in Resolve and trying to export quicktime files in a roundtrip workflow.
I'm working on a 23.976 timeline and everything appears to be set up correctly in Resolve.  It exports the quicktime files and the XML file.  When I import the XML into FCPX, the error code appears (see below).  The new clips appear in a new event and a project is created, but the project settings have changed from "1920 x 818" to "1280 x 720" and the frame rate has changed from 23.976 to 60p. These settings cannot be modified in the project settings.  I can see the new timeline but it doesn't play normally.  I think it has something to do with a framerate mismatch or timecode problem, but I'm not sure, I've checked everything I can think of.  Incidentally, the other side of the workflow (exporting XML from FCPX to Resolve) works just fine.  Really hoping to be able to take a graded timeline back into Final Cut for finishing.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Hi,
You open XML file you will see xml file will contain many task tag <Tag>
    <Task>
    <UID>1</UID>
    <ID>1</ID>
    <Name>task1</Name>
    <Active>1</Active>
    <Manual>1</Manual>
    <Type>0</Type>
            <IsNull>0</IsNull>
Every task will start with  <Task> and task Name will come as <Name>task1</Name>. You can find all the line with <Name>task1</Name> then you can copy all the task in excel truncate <Name> and <Name>
then you will have only name of the task then in the 2nd column of the excel you can paste tasks from MPP fiel then you can check easily which task is not present in the xml file.

  • Can a user editable frame be created for "Notes" and emailed from within the app?

    Hello,
I am super new to the digital publishing process. Our church has published devotional content for some time and this year we are taking those publications digital. One of the key aspescts to our design is for readers to be able to have space to write their own thoughts in the devotional.
I am not at all skilled in any sort of code or markup and I have tradtionally stuck to the visual side of production. So, I am wondering if there is a way to create a "Notes" frame within indesign that the user can email to themselves or save it in someother way from with in the app?
Below is a screen shot of the print edition so you can see the area I am refering to.

The CLASSPATH cannot be modified at runtime.
You can work around this by creating a URLClassLoader with the required CLASSPATH and using it to load your classes instead.

  • SOME pictures (only some) not showing up in the edit frame

    Hello
Instead of viewing the picture in the edit screen, it's just grey, with an exclamation mark in the middle, and a white doted frame.
Strangely enough, this occurs only for pictures
    1, imported from a CD,
2, and only for the pictures in landscape!
In addition, this issue is new: it worked perfectelly well two weeks ago. I am not 100% sure, but I think that within the 4 updates I dwonloaded a few days ago, there was an update for iPhoto. Could it be that there is a small problem with the last update?
Other info: around 2,500 pictures in my library, all .JPG
This is my first question on the forum, I hope someone has a solution!
    Thanks in advance,

It has to be some issue with the files coming from a PC to disk and then to the Mac. Give the following a try. It's a process that will create a new library and rebuild it without touching your original library so it's nondestructive.
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.

  • Editing frames in PSE8

    Hi guys,
I wondered if it is possible to edit/ to adjust existing frames. I found this article about PSE 6 ( http://www.alibony.com/pse/012208frame.html ), but these options seems to not be there in later versions.
    thx,
    D.

find the answer myself: go on the picture, right-click and chose "edit payer".

  • Editing frames en masse

Thanks to these forums I understand how to and can export/import a clip to still photos for Photoshop editing. So, now I'm wondering how can I change en masse all those now still frames to be a 1 frame duration instead of its default which seems to be something like 10 minutes.

You can also change the still duration in your preferences if you haven't imported yet.

  • Editing frames in Expert mode.

    Hi.
Does anyone know how I can make get the time-line in Expert-mode to show all the frames from a movie (like in Quick-mode) for easier and quicker editing.
Default I can only see the first and last movie-frame and I have to manually move the cursor over the black time-line area and look at the monitor at the same time.
It would have been much easier and quicker to have all frames visibel on the time-line like in Quick-mode.
Expert-mode with only first and last frame visibel
    Quick-mode with all frames visibel.

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system is it running?
For now I will assume 11, 12, or 13 on Windows and the Expert workspace of the version.....
There are actually 4 different video track display styles that you can toggle through by clicking the film strip icon to the left of the video track name
    1. Thumbnail for first frame and thumbnail for last frame displayed with frame thumbnails for in between frames not displayed
    2. Only Thumbnail for first frame displaying
    3. Just a thin horizontal black line
    4. Thumbnails for first frame and thumbnail for last frame displayed with the number of in between frame thumbnails displayed dependent on the zoom level.
If you want to see all the video frame thumbnails, then select toggle choice "4" and expand the Timeline to maximum with the -+ slider above the Timeline. If you want to work in frames instead of Timecode, the Ctrl click the Timecode above the Timeline (below Monitor) or go to Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and select Frames for the Display format.
Are you doing frame by frame editing of your video or are you just interested in the choice of video track display style choices?

  • Edit Frame Accurate To Music?

I have a beginner's question, since I've never used Final Cut Express before. Is it possible to do totally frame accurate editing, so that you can edit video perfectly in-time with music? Can you zoom into the video timeline and see each individual frame, and move an edit point to line up with a beat?

Hi Ian, I use the same technique as Michel and it works pretty well.
You don't have to hit m at every beat, but having a regular and continuos set of markers in a section of audio, helps you to decide later which marker to use to sync your video. Obviously, I use markers on the audio clip, not on the timeline, so they are bound to it.
About precision: it's possible to go out of sync, but it's easy enough to be precise if you listen your music carefully. I guess another factor for precision may be the Mac responsivness: faster systems allow to be more precise than slower ones (I saw a big improvement moving from older Macs to my new MacBook Pro).
In any case I agree with you: too many cuts may become boring or distracting. In fact, I sometimes use this technique to conclude a movie with a lively rithmic music: then I sync a selection of stills and/or short clips to the music just before the movie end. At most one minute, usually no more than that.

  • Fcpx choppy editing/ frames dropping

Hello, i am using a 15" macbook pro with a i7 processor and 4gb of RAM.  While using fcpx, i always drop frames during editing and it is very choppy.  Any suggestions such as settings or anything?

MPEG-4 is not a supported format. This media needs to be converted before being used in FCP. You can use Compressor or MPEG Streamclip. High data rate, high frame rate, HD media requires a fast computer and fast drives for good playback.

iMovie exports in h.264 by default. All the presets are h.264 (except Tiny).
If you need to adjust the h.264 in some way, then SHARE.EXPORT USING QUICKTIME.
To edit to the nearest frame, Go to iMovie/Preferences and select Display Time Codes.
