Editing from Lightroom 4 to Photoshop CS5

HELP!
My Lightroom 4 is not working great these days.
1 - When importing my photos from my memory cards, my "Catologue" area in Lightroom is GONE, no where to be found. How can I recover this!? It was pretty important to me to have this option.
2 - When I am wanting to edit a Lightroom 4 photo (CR2 file) into Photoshop (CS5), it wont work. What will happen is Photoshop will open, that photo I edited WONT save back into my Lightroon Library, it will save into my "PICTURES" section on my MAC laptop. What I want it to do, as its done before, is save it as a edited JPEG right back into LIGHTROOM so all my images are together. This is getting extremely frustrating !! I NEEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET PLEASE ANYONE!

I recently changed to new Macbook Pro and uploaded my Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS5.
Now when I go to 'Photo - Edit in - Photoshop' in Lightroom 4. Photoshop opens. But no image appears.
I've updated the Camera Raw reader but this hasn't helped.

It is important to understand how Lr works.
Lr displays photos only when they are imported into Lr. A (seeming) exception is for a Raw image that is edited in Photoshop and <Saved> to the default settings that you selected in external editing of Preferences in Lr. So if the default setting is for PSD and you just hit <Save> in Photoshop, a PSD will be created and automatically imported back into Lr so that it will be displayed there. So, this is not really an exception from the rule that an image has to be imported into Lr - it is an automatic import. This automatic import works only for the <Save> to the default settings;it does not work when you do a <Save As> and select a different file format than the default setting. In your case you did a <Save as> to create a JPG. This JPG will not be automatically imported into Lr, you have to import it manually - either through the Import Dialog or by <Synchronize Folder>.
Apart from that, and as JimHess said, why do you create a JPG in Photoshop from the same file? If you need a JPG, in Lr just export your PSD as a JPG when you need it.
I often need JPGs from my file, but I create them only when needed by exporting them to a folder of my choice. Usually I delete them after a while. I don't see a reason why I should have JPGs sitting around on my hard drive(s). They can be created again (from the Raw files or from PSD's/Tiffs) if the need arises.

  • Exporting from Lightroom 4 to Photoshop CS5

I have a workflow I have followed for a long time now. Things changed and I can't figure out what I did:
I make adjustments to images in Lightroom 4 then send the image to Photoshop via EDIT-IN method [ctrl-E] on my PC.  I make my changes in Photoshop and then SAVE-AS a TIFF followed by a JPEG.  Normally both files return to Lightroom where I can see them in the filmstrip.  However, I cannot see the JPEG's anymore.  They are not displaying in the filmstrip anymore.  I have made some changes recently in my color settings and I checked my Preferences but I can't see anything that would prohibit the RETURN of the JPEGS.  Any thoughts?
    Thank you!!!

  • Save as DNG in Photoshop when editing from Lightroom

When transfering from Lightroom 2 to Photoshop CS3 (Windows) and after editing as a smart object in Photoshop how do I save the file back into Lightroom as a DNG file

You cannot save DNG files from photoshop. This is because DNG lacks the support for the features you need.

  • Can I Extract a Frame from a Video (in Lightroom 3 or Photoshop CS5)?

I'm running Windows 7 and have Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5.  Extracting a frame from a .MOV file is way over my head, but I want to try.  Right now the file is in Lightroom, but the "Open in" options are grayed out.  I have exported the file to my desktop, and  I can play the video with Windows Media Player.  I bet somewhere, somehow there is a way to do what I want.  Any help, ideas or references would be much appreciated!

When you say "Extract a frame", do you mean saving one of the frames as an image from Photoshop?
    Here's what you can do:
    1. Open the video in Photoshop, File > Open, and choose the .mov file.
    2. Once the video opens in Photoshop, open the Animation panel, Window > Animation
    3. In the Animation panel move the playhead to the desired frame, and save it as an image, File > Save As.
    and Voila!
Any questions, just ask. I'll be more than happy to help.

  • My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images

    Any ideas?

My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images from Lightroom and choosing the "Render using Lightroom option when it popped up in the dialogue box. She has been doing this for over a year and a half without any problem. Today when she hit Command E no dialogue box appeared and the image just opened in Photoshop. I'm concerned that all of her Lightroom edits are not being rendered to Photoshop. Anyone have an idea as to how we can get the "Render using Lightroom" dialogue back?

  • Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS5

I am about to upgrade to LR 5. Currently I use LR4.4 which uses Camera RAW 7.4.  LR5 uses Camera RAW 8.2.  Will I be able to edit RAW files in LR5 and still continue to edit the resultant files in Photoshop CS5 without using a DNG conversion?

The only practical limitation is that you lose some of the functions under "Edit in" - smart objects, layers, hdr and pano. These are Photoshop scripts that rely on ACR processing the raw files.
Just to clarify in case of any confusion: if you are previously used to being able to override the default filename and folder location of your LR edits into Photoshop, by using "Save As" - you will need to stop doing that, and only use "Save".
[When ACR is not involved - when it is LR which carries out the rendering of the adjustments and the creation of a working file for PS to edit - the file has already been saved before PS ever sees it. So that is where the editing changes made by PS have to be put, in order for Lr to show them as an update.]
Also, if you are previously used to sometimes changing your mind about doing a PS edit "midway", and exiting PS without having saved anything - this working scenario will still leave that brand new editing file on disk, plus a new thumbnail inside LR corresponding to that. That pairing would require manual deletion, separately, from inside LR.

  • Problems opening multiple images as layers from Lightroom 4 to Photoshop CS6

I'm having trouble bringing multiple photos from Lightroom 4 into Photoshop CS6 as layers. In LR4, I select the multiple photos I want to bring in, right click and from the pop-up menu select "Edit In", then "Open as Layers In Photoshop...". Photoshop CS6 then opens but the photos do not load in. I then get an error in LR4 about a minute later that says "The files could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CS6 could not be launched." However Photoshop just opened before I got the error. How do I fix this?

Maybe a keyboard issue - shortcut key toggling multiple times. But, if you're sure your keyboard is fine, then try this:
Reset LR preferences:Windows 7/ Vista: The preference setting file is Lightroom 4 Preferences.agprefs, in C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\. Rename/ move this file to a different location. LR will recreate preferences during next launch. See if this fixes the issue. The reason we're renaming or moving it is so that if it doesn't fix the error, you can move it back there so you don't have to recreate your in-application preferences again
Reset Photoshop preferences: Follow instructions here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776
See if either or one of the above suggestions works.

  • LR5 Spot Removals disappear when choosing "Edit in... Photoshop CS5"

This is quite frustrating. I go over my photo and remove dust specs in LR5, then choose to edit the image further in Photoshop CS5 (Right click or Cmd+E -> Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5). When the photo opens in Photoshop all the Spot Removals I have done are *gone*! I can not say I have noticed this before, and I have been using LR5 since it became available. But now nothing helps - It keeps doing this, no matter how many times I close PS and LR and re-open. Spot Removal just keeps getting reset when I wanna edit a photo in Photoshop.
I shot a video of it, which can be viewed or downloaded here: http://cl.ly/280R2p09341u
Hope this gets fixed soon, or someone can provide some tips. Incredibly annoying...
    I'm on an iMac 2013, OS X 10.8.4.
    Photoshop CS5, Version 12.0.4 x64
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, Version 5.0

LR 5 is using the equivalent of ACR 8.1 and in Photoshop CS5 the latest ACR version is ACR 6.7  so they are nt 100% compatible. You should be getting a pop up warning dialog. You need to choose render using Lightroom (or words to that effect). If you do not see any warning dialog you may have disabled it.
In Lightroom 5 go to menu bar Edit> Prefrences> General tab> under prompts at the bottom of the dialog box select "Reset all warning dialogs"
Try again and you should get the option to make the correct choice. Do not choose "Open anyway"

  • I can no longer edit from LR 5 in photoshop CC.

I can no longer edit from LR 5 in photoshop CC.  When I right click on the DNG image in my filmstrip, choose edit in> Photoshop CC nothing happens.  If photoshop is closed, it will launch the program but does not open my image.  I haven't changed any settings that I know of.

Any updates here? I have the same problem. Using OSX.
It works all fine until I changed to the Adobe Creative Cloud thing for photographers.
I installed LR5 even if it was already installed, but not via CC.
After the installation the problem appears.
Maybe I do the full deinstall, install process and see if this cures the problem.

  • Photoshop CS5 unable to open for edits from Lightroom 3

Have been experiencing numerous issue with the new LR and Photoshop not playing nice with each other on my Mac Pro w/10.6. Photoshop CS5 is will open in 1 attempt out of 8, and won't open from LR for editing purposes (it did once). Have been using in 32 bit mode to accommodate NIK and Topaz filters. I have reinstalled three times so far. Anyone got any ideas?

Try deleting the prefs folder for Photoshop. Mine was doing something like this where it would not open the image inside
of CS5 when you right click on the image and try an "open with". But it would work from the menu, most of the time. The cost is having to recreate custom settings inside Photoshop but since my CS5 was a new install as was LR3, it did not matter to me. It did require a reboot for the new preference file to fully take effect.
    From Adobe's own workaround
    5. Re-create the Photoshop preferences files.
Re-create the Photoshop preferences file to eliminate problems that a damaged preferences file might cause.
Note: Re-creating the Photoshop preferences file restores settings to their defaults.
To re-create the Photoshop preferences file:
    Quit Photoshop.
    Rename the Users\[username]\Library\Preferences\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp folder to Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.old.
Start Photoshop. Photoshop creates a new Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp file.
If the problem continues, then the Photoshop preferences file isn't the cause. To restore custom settings, quit Photoshop, then delete the new Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp file and restore the original name of the previous Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp

  • Issues transfering photos from lightroom 4 to PS CS5 with edits

I recently upgraded from lightroom 3 to lightroom 4 for mac, and when I open up raw images that I have edited in lightroom as smart objects in photoshop CS5 (which I also just bought) to apply some finishing touches to my photos, none of the edits I made in lightroom transfer over or appear on the image that opens in photoshop. Instead, the unedited version of the photo appears in photoshop. I have never had this problem before, especially before I upgraded my software. Did I accidentally hit a button or something?! I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong on my end. Please advise (the sooner the better, I have a whole gang of wedding photos due to a client tomorrow)! Thank you in advance.

Lightroom uses a database for edits and keyworrds.  Bridge and Photoshop writes the info. to the image or to an XMP flle.  So to be compatable you have to write metadata to file.
Here is link to recent post that describes the process.  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/991608?tstart=30
