Editing imovie Project on a Different Computer

I have been working on a video project in imovie 09 for my dad. I am doing the project on a macbook pro but unfortunately my sister is taking it to college. I want to move the imovie project to our mac desktop, and still be able to edit it because I am not finished with the project yet. I have tried using quicktime with the file extension DV but cannot add transitions or edit anything? Is there a solution?

Check iMovie/ABOUT and see which version you have. If you have version 8.0.6, use John Cogdell's advice above.
If you have version 7.1.4, you must use a slightly different procedure.
0) You need an external hard disk that is formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled)
1) Open iMovie. Click VIEW/EVENTS BY VOLUME. You should see your hard drive in the Events Library List,
2) Drag the small icon for your Event to the small icon for the external drive, and let it copy.
4) Open the Finder and go to the <user>/Movies/iMovie Projects folder. Drag your project into the external hard drive.
5) Now, plug in the external drive to the mac desktop.
6) Open the Finder, and drag the Project File to the <user>/Movies/iMovie Projects folder.
7) Now open iMovie. Click VIEW/EVENTS BY VOLUME. You should see your Event file on the external disk. Drag it to the Internal disk in iMovie.

  • How do I edit an iMovie project on a different computer?

I started an iMovie project on my desktop at home and I am going away for the weekend so I am wondering if there is anyway to transfer the file to my brother's laptop and still be able to edit it. If there is a way, what should I use to transfer the file?

I've done this. You'll need an external hard drive. See iMovie help "Copying or moving a project to an external hard disk". Once it's copied, connect the hard drive to your brother's laptop and edit away.

  • How can I edit an iMovie 10.0.3 project on a different computer with an older version?

I am trying to caption a video using the Titles feature. However, 10.0.3 has a bug that won't allow font changes in titles, which is making the captions inconsistent in terms of size and font, which looks terrible. How can I fix this? Is there any way to share the project with a different computer with an older version of iMovie, to make the edits there? So far, the video will transfer but the other project files (including the captions) won't open in the new version.

You can't use a project created in iMovie 10 with earlier iMovie versions.  If you are only adding titles you could always re-import the video into a Mac running an earlier version of iMovie or share the iMovie 10 video to file and import into the earlier version.
Some titles in iMovie 10 do allow changing font and size though.  Its a matter of trying out the various options.  If you are running Yosemite its worth upgrading to version 10.0.6 which I think improved title adjustment options as well as a number of other things.

  • Transferring After Effects CS4 Project to a different computer

I have basically contructed a project in After Effects CS4, but unfortunately, my computer is quite poor and crashes during rendering. So I was wondering if there is a way for me to transfer the entire project to a different computer with After Effects, so I can render it and further edit it there instead. Thank you.

Use the Collect Files command to gather all of the footage into one folder, copy that folder to an external disk, and move it to the new computer. You'll also need ot make sure that any fonts and codecs used are installed on the new computer.

  • Transferring an iMovie Project to a New Computer

I edited a short film for an Apple sponsored "iMovie Fest" at my university. They provided a MacBook Pro for me to work on, as I had to do the project in iMovie '08. After I finished the project and submitted it (as a .m4v file), I moved everything to my external hard drive -- iMovie Project files and iMovie Event files -- all at once and did not edit or add anything after that. The MacBook Pro was returned to Apple.
The issue at hand is that when I attempt to open the Project file on another computer (in this case, an iMac), it opens iMovie '08, but does not load the project. In my first attempt, it loaded my Event files (so all the raw footage was there) but not the Project. A second attempt a few days later (on the same machine), it loaded neither the Project nor the Event files (however I could upload individual movie files with the 'File' dropdown menu).
The folders they are contained in are labeled as they were when I edited the film at the beginning (iMovie Events, iMovie Projects). Is there something that I did wrong? Is there a way to retrieve the Project information so I don't have to reedit the film?

Great info roddy. One part though where you wrote
Double click this domain file to launch iWeb.
Although functional this is not necessary. Would not want to confuse OP into thinking the procedure of double-clicking the Domain file is required everytime the desire to open app is present. _Look Here_ for complete Apple documentation. Given that information coupled with your suggestion OP could copy the Domain file to anywhere on their new Mac and then double-clicking Domain file would be +absolutely required+ to open project in iWeb. This would then set new location of Domain file where afterwards simply launching iWeb app from dock, app folder or otherwise would open the Domain file, wherever it was located. Your suggestion mentioned copying Domain to equivalent location of ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb and in doing so double-clicking is not required since this is the default location iWeb looks for the Domain file at anyway.

  • How can i transfer iWeb projects to a different computer?

This may be a simple question, but does anyone know how I can transfer an iWeb project from one computer to another, so that I can work on the site from a different computer than the one that created it?

The same way you transfer all your other documents.
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/

  • Edited iMovie Project has disappeared

I spent hours editing an iMovie project last night and now the project is no where to be found.
The project file is on one of the hard drives of my Mac Pro but the event is on an external hard drive (ejected properly after iMovie was closed properly).
Since I don't remember the name of the iMovie project, it could still be there in its original form before any of my edits because what I did was drop the footage into a project, edit partially and duplicate it before continuing. 2 duplicates of only the pre-duplication project appear.
Where the heck did my edited project go? Surely it was saved SOMEwhere because I undid and redid things along the way. It does not show up in a search for iMovie projects that I sort to list by date opened.
What happened? and how can I avoid this from ever happening again?
I would have had my completed project last night and none of this would matter if iMovie would have allowed me to share it last night, but instead when I tried, an error message appears claiming I needed more memory available to create the project. I had 4gb of available memory at the time (this glitch is listed in a seperate discussion thread. i am asking where my project went in this one).

If you have moved your iMovie project files out of the Movies/iMovie Projects folder, iMovie will not see them.
Similarly, if you have moved your iMovie Event folders out of the Movies/iMovie Events/ folder, iMovie will not see them. The solution is to move them back where they were. (And then restart iMovie)
If you want to move projects and events to an external drive to save space on your mac, you need to do it within iMovie. The instructions are as follows....
    Moving projects: http://help.apple.com/imovie/#move7d66613
    Moving Events: http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6d42c
If you want to move projects and events to an external drive so you can edit them on another Mac, follow the instructions for consolidating media. http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6c7c9

  • Get iMovie project completed on different Mac into iDVD project

I have a bunch of iMovie projects of my son's school year which I created and I want to burn to DVD to share with the other parents.I am sharing them to the media browsers as large files to use in iDVD, but one movie I want to include was created on the Mac at his school, and at the moment I only have a medium sized copy of it here as an .M4v file.
How is it best to progress so I can include that clip on the dvd too? Convert it? Or I could go into school to access the original file there and save it as something else? I guess it would be preferable to get it as a large file at least. I don't have the original clips it was created with here at home by the way.
    Thanks,

'Start iMovie and set it to show Hard Disk View in Event's'
    How do I do this?
Event window has two faces - Can look like this
or like this (observe small blue symbol top right hand corner)
Also: 'Make the Moves over to the external HD (T-mode Mac) and if You start with a Project You'll also be asked to copy over the needed Event's'
I did a test this end, tried to drag and drop a project over to an external HD and nothing happened. How do I make the moves over?
Works for me - but only in iMovie'09 and 11 - In iM'08 Projects can not be moved - still not so important as the project is only a very small text document telling iMovie howto use the material in Event and Audio and Photos to play as the Movie You made.
BUT - I got frustrated as I tried to move Event to project or other way around - THAT doesn't work ! - only moves within resp. window from one hard disk to the other.

  • Sharing iMove Projects Libraries with different users on the same machine

I was wonder how two different users on the same machine can
    share project libraries. Some Context:
My daughter has some finished projects in her project library and
I either want to import those project into my library or share them
so both user accounts can access the projects (similar to how the
    event library is accessible)
Note: I've already moving the project library to a shared disk (the one
the event library is on) with no luck
    Using iMove 09

You need to move each project to the external drive from within iMovie. Be sure to use command-drag so you move, not copy.

  • Is there a way to edit a project on two different versions of FCP?

I am editing for a director who has a higher version of FCP. I don't want to upgrade because it will interfere with my work with other directors. But I'd like to be able to take the film that's now on 6.0.4 to my computer, which is running 6.0.1. I thought I'd heard somewhere about exporting an edl and being able to use that? I don't know anything about this, so if anyone can let me know if that's possible and and what the work flow is, it would be great!
    thanks

See if there's a way with your current configuration to make this idea work:
Clone your 2nd internal drive volume onto an external drive, then clone your boot drive volume onto the 2nd internal volume (erasing everything that's on the 2nd internal first.)
Now you have two identical boot drives in your G5. With one of them booted, invoke Software Update, and update Final Cut to v6.0.4. Use that volume to work on this project, and when you have to work on a project that requires v6.0.1, boot to that drive volume.
The downside is that your media files will now be on a firewire drive, but that's doable. Better yet, buy an eSATA PCI card and install it in your G5, and buy an eSATA external enclosure for your media drives. Perfect.

  • Re-interpreted footage metadata is lost when moving Premiere Pro CC 2014 project file to different computer

    Hi guys,
I believe this is just a bug in Premiere Pro CC 2014 (and other versions in the past), but I wanted to make sure it was on the PP team's plate for the next update, since it's detrimental to a workflow that include more than one computer or more than one editor on a project.
My team shoots a lot of footage in slow-motion (for instance, 59.94 for 23.976). Premiere's process to conform this footage is great. Modify -> Interpret Footage -> Assume this frame rate: "23.976".
Unfortunately, when we move this project file to another system, even if we are using a hard-drive that is synced to have the exact same source media files with the exact same file structure, we lose the footage interpretation metadata. Premiere Pro CC thinks this footage is 59.94 again, and our sequences are in shambles. All clips where the interpretation metadata is lost have "zebra pin stripes" on them wherever they exist in our sequences.
We have to manually re-interpret the footage, and then sometimes manually re-select in and out points. This is a work-around that enables us to push forward, but it's a barrier that makes collaborative editing extremely challenging and opens up rampant possibility for error. It's hard to locate every clip we need to re-interpret in some of our more complex projects, and even harder to avoid re-interpreting the wrong clips.
Looking forward to a resolution to this problem.

Guys I solved my own problem - thought I'd share with you how in case anyone else is having this problem -
    I came across this thread
Premiere Pro CC error message and crash
    which had the suggestion -
"Do tou have after effects installed? If yes, please try to import the main sequence into it and then export it as premier pro project from file/export ootion and then try to open that in premiere pro."
This didn't work for me too but I did try and import my existing project into a new project and copy all the files over. Works fine now.
I don't know if I will have the same issue again tomorrow so I'm going to render out a super high res video before I close premiere just in case

  • Can you create an iMovie project from 2 different formats?

    Hi,
I have video shot with a newer Cannon HD camera, and a slightly older Sony Handicam (DV), both shot on miniDV tapes.
iMovie '09 accepts both, but the stuff shot in DV looks distorted, and appears to have the aspect messed up as there are the "black bars" around it, making it almost look squished.
I don't think changing my camera play back settings will help. I'm guessing it was shot in 4:3. Would I have to edit/zoom every frame to "fit"? My ultimate project would be widescreen as that's what my HD was shot in.
Thanks in advance for any help

To use 4:3 content in a 16:9 project you have 2 options FIT or CROP.
    In a 16:9 project:
    - The " FIT " option displays 4:3 content Pillar-Boxed (Black bars on both sides of the image)
    - The " CROP " option zooms the 4:3 content to fill the 16:9 frame (No black bars)
Here's how you can access these options:
    1. Open iMovie '09
    2. Go to "File > New Project" and select "Widescreen 16:9"
    3. Click "Create"
    4. Drag & Drop a _4:3 clip_ into the _16:9 project_ you just created
    5. Go to "iMovie > Preferences... > General"
    6. Check the "Show Advanced Tools"
    7. Back to your project select your 4:3 clip
    8. Press the "c" key on your keyboard
    9. Choose between FIT or CROP and click "Done"
    That's it!

  • Scrubbing audio cuts out while editing iMovie project

    Hello,
I put all of the clips, nearly an hour, in the project, and am editing just by deleting what I don't want. I keep losing audio while scrubbing. Would having less video in the project window fix that? It came back just now by restarting iMovie, but cut out again.
    Thank you

    Hi
    and welcome to forum
    *No audio on DVD disc.*
    Most common origin.
    1 Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an audio-CD .aiff
    • Use this in Your movie project
2 Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
3 Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In
    4. Ed Hanna
Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies—except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format—that I have noticed.
    5. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple Disk Util tool
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it
