Editing in elements and lightroom

Pictures edited in elements that were sent from lightroom are not returned to lightroom after they are saved in elements. Why?

What versions of LR and PS Elements are you using?
What file type are you working with in LR, raw or rendered jpeg/tiff?
Could you provide more detail as to what choices to made when sending the file from LR and what option did you choose to save the file when finished in Elements "save" or "save as"? Did you make a name change to the file?

  • I replaced PC with MACbook, can I download my Elements and Lightroom or do I need to repurchase?

I replaced my PC which is broken and no longer usable with a new Macbook Pro.  I would like to download my Elements and Lightroom in the Mac OS version.  Can I do this or do I need to repurchase.  I just bought the Elements in August 2014 and the Lightroom in 2013.
    Thanks so much
    Teresa

you do not need to re-purchase.  both those are cross-platform products so you just download the mac installation files and use your mac serial numbers to install on your mac.

  • When is Adobe going to support 64bit, I7 CPU's in Elements and Lightroom?

I have an I7, 64bit computer almost exclusively for multitasking photoshop exercises.  It appears that both elements and Lightroom only use one of the eight cores.  this is very inefficient for me.  Any clues as to when support for these high end computers will be forthcoming?

Hmm, when I use File > Process Multiple Files to convert a dozen raw files to PSDs, resizing them as well, I see both CPUs on my machine being used:
In general, I think that the full Photoshop does use multiple CPUs for compute-intensive tasks, and the PSE Editor, a stripped-down version of full Potoshop, also uses multiple CPUs.  How well it does that, I don't know.

Stephylei you will want to download the Mac versions of the installation files.  If you purchased the software from Adobe, and choose the download option at the time of purchase, then the download will be available under your account.  You can find more details at Find a download link on Adobe.com.

  • Elements and Lightroom installed in Mac Mini. Do I need to buy separate products for my MacBook?

I have purchased Photoshop Elements and Lightroom and installed them in my table Mac. Now I'm going on travelling and would need them with me also in my laptop (MacBook Pro). Is there any chance to update my current purchases so that I could use the programs also in my laptop, or do I have to buy separate products for this? Could not find an easy way to do this. Thanks!

I don't know about Lightroom, but PSE allows you to have activated installations on two computers, so you're good there. Just install it on the laptop.

  • Problem with "Edit in Photoshop" and Lightroom 2.1 failing to import new file

I am a new user to Lightroom, so I won't be surprised if the problem is at the dull end of the keyboard...
I am working with Lightroom 2.1 (still in my 30-day free trial), Photoshop CS3 with ACR 4.6, on Windows XP (fully updated). My image files are mostly .cr2 files (canon raw).
When I "edit with photoshop" in Lightroom, it fires up Photoshop and brings the file up for edit as expected. Photoshop shows the file name as something like _MG_2326.CR2, as (I presume) expected. When I'm done editing in Photoshop, and I save the file, Lightroom brings up a message "The file could not be imported because it could not be read." and "It may be an incompatible format." on a second line.
If I synchronize the folder in Lightroom it picks up the save file without issue (though its not automatically stacked with the original).
I have tried messing around with the different options in the preferences "external editing" tab -- file format, color space and bit depth (I can't imagine resolution would matter). No joy there.
I have also tried setting photoshop up as the additional external editor and if I do that it works correctly. However, in this case, it makes a copy of the file before opening photoshop which slows things down a little.
Is this a problem that anybody else has seen before? Any solutions or work-arounds?
    Thanks,
    Doug

I'm back trying to sort this problem out (got distracted for a couple of days by trying to get my monitor calibrated).
Rearranging the folder structure didn't help. But I now have a better organized catalog, so that's ok :)
What I did find is that if I import files into lightroom using the "file/import photos from device", then I can edit them normally afterwards (that is, when I save the file in photoshop cs3, the new file gets picked up correctly by lightroom and gets correctly stacked with the original). This is true even if the new files get added into the same directory structure that I'm having troubles with.
So it looks like the directory structure is a red herring. It looks like the problem is in the catalog, with the way that lightroom originally imported my files. I created my original catalog by allowing lightroom to read my elements 6 catalog.
It seems that I have this edit problem with all catalog entries that were imported from elements 6, but I don't have any problem with catalog entries that lightroom brings in directly (either through "import photos from device" or by adding a new folder to the lightroom catalog).
So right now it looks like there is a problem with the elements catalog conversion.
Is this a problem that anybody else has seen? Any suggestions for getting around it?

  • Editing in elements from lightroom no longer works

    Hello
Up until today I have been able to edit photographs in PSE9 from Lightroom 5 directly but I now get the following error message "Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at /Volumes/Luminous July 2013/Lightroom/Lightroom Pictures/Tour de France/DSC_5825.dng for editing.
It will not be opened" . As far as I'm aware I have made no changes to either bits of software so if anyone can help me to edit adjusted images in Lightroom into PSE9 I would be eternally grateful?
    Thanks
    Tom

  • I'm trying to understand the difference between Photoshop Elements and Lightroom software.

Does one have things the other does not?

    Hi,
Lightroom is to manage photos and produce derivative images without ever modifying an original file. Its processing functionality has a narrow feature-set covering the most common needs of professional photographers whereas Elements is a simpler yet powerful photo manipulation tool. Elements is designed to satisfy the needs of photo enthusiasts who like to manipulate images.
You can also go through the thread to understand the basic difference between PSE and Lightroom.
    Check if this helps.

  • Export/Import of keywords between Elements and Lightroom

I am wish to import the Pictures I have in my Element 11 catalogs into the Lightroom 5  catalogs. I have applied keywords/tagging to my Pictures in Elements and wish to import the same keywords/tags to the Pictures after they have been imported to Lightroom.
Is this possible? I the help files for Lightroom I find the following guidance:"To import keywords into the catalog, choose Metadata > Import Keywords, navigate to and select the text file or catalog file containing keywords" However I am not able to locate the text/cataloge file for Elements containing this info.
I would very much appreciate any help on this as I have several thousend Pictures which I wish to transfer.

  • Will Elements and Lightroom open RAW files fro the Sony DSCRX-100 camera?

I have the RX100 and confess to be an Adobe fan.   You did not say which Lightroom or which elements you want to use.  You need the latest versions.
Photoshop Elements 11 comes with Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) version 7.0 in place when you install it.  Under the help menu, there is a choice to check for updates.  If you do, ACR 7.2 installs.  The RX100 is included in 7.2.  Previous versions of Photoshop Elements will not udate to 7.2.  When you open a RAW photo, a screen pops up that lets you adjust, convert and save to something Photoshop Elements can handle.
You have to have Lightroom 4.2 to get RX100 usefulness.  Lightroom uses, but hides, the ACR engine.  Instead the slider controls are built in the user interface.  When you buy it, it installs as 4.0.  The help menu also has an update choice so that you can get to 4.2 from 4.0.
You didn't ask, but Premier Elements 11 is a good choice for video because it is he first version that "officially" supports the high quality 1080p60 or "PS" setting in the RX100.
On T day, I shot RAW photos of my granddaughters dancing to a Wii game in terrible light.  Yesterday I "adjusted" the batch of RAW shots taken with the RX100 in Lightroom and saved them as .jpg files.  Today, I wll make a video in Premier Elements from those .jpg images, put in some pan and zoom effects, add a sound track and put it on Vimeo.
My view is that an RX100 owner needs PSE 11, PrE 11 and Lightroom 4 to take advantage of the camera's capabilties.  Setting it on "fine" .jpg and uploading snapshots to Flicker leaves an awful lot on the table!

  • Elements and Lightroom - working together

Since I shoot virtually all my images in RAW format I've been playing with Lightroom as I find Elements RAW processing a little cumbersome.
I've worked out a process that suits me although it could still do with some refining, so I thought I'd share what I'm doing with you and if you are doing something similar maybe you can share your experiences.
I think Lightroom is an excellent Post Processor for RAW, JPEGs and PSDs. Its not a full Editor but that doesn't concern me as I can call upon Photoshop to do this if needed. What it does lack in my opinion is as good an Organiser as Elements.
For RAW images already in Elements Organiser...
    1. Locate folder and Import into the Lightroom Library but with the images managed in the existing folder.
    2. Process the images and choose to have the XMP files stored with the image.
    3. Assign the exact same Keyword as the Organiser Tag(s)
    4. Export the processed images in PSD format back to the original folder
    5. Since this is an Organiser watched folder it picks up the new PSD files and puts them against the right Tag(s).
    6. Remove the RAW orignals from the Organiser ( note: not deleted from hard drive)
    For new RAW images.....
    1. Download into a specific Lightroom folder that is not watched by the Elements Organser
    2. Process the images and choose to have the XMP files stored with the image.
    3. Assign Keywords that will be used as the Tag(s) in the Organiser
    4. Export to an Organiser watched folder.
    5. Organiser picks up the new images and imports the keywords as Tags.
    6. Re-position the Imported Tags as appropriate.
This way I don't clutter the Organiser with all the RAW images. It doesn't create version sets of RAW + Processed but hopefully in the final release of Lightroom, Version sets may be available.
    That's the story so far
    Colin

Sorry if you already know this and it just didn't work for you.  To add elements (which plays well with my LR) go to the edit tab, open preferences and click on external editing.  There you will see a section for "additional external editor."  Set up PSE and save it as a preset..... should open just fine.  Also regarding the help, my LR help always shows PSE as well.  However, there is a little section next to PSE which I can click on to get other alternatives.....unfortunately, I don't get LR4, just help from LR3....but usually close enough.

  • Elements and Lightroom

Do Lightroom 2.0 and Elements 8.0 integrate seamlessly?

They integrate in the sense that if your photo is in the Lightroom Library module, you can send it to the PSE Editor using a Lightroom command, make your edits, and then have the resulting photo appear (in a stack with the original photo) in the Lightroom Library Module. The user does not have to specifically launch PSE. Whether or not that counts as "seamlessly" is left up to the eye of the beholder.
There are no other ways that Lightroom and PSE are integrated.

  • Confusion with Adobe Element and Lightroom?

Hello, I am new to the Mac world and purchased the IMac. I loaded up some pics into iPhoto and followed a discussion regarding the "import" issues into "Lightroom". I followed the instructions with "Element". Question: Now that i've test a photo yet cleaned it up in iPhoto and a lil in Element, what is the purpose of utilizing Lightroom? i didn't see any tools that were any indifferent . . Pleas Advise!

Thanks for the reply, I have to identify any direct questions relating to both products. I’m just thinking that both products are not needed.  The initial concern started when I couldn’t import IPhoto into Lightroom,  Element was the go between because it interacted with both IPhoto & Lightroom. Just wondering if both are needed.
    Please Advise,
    Chris D Smith
