Editing in external program?

I have iPhoto set to edit photos in another app, Pixelmator. I could have sworn that it used to work that I would open a photo from iPhoto into Pixelmator, and then I could save it in Pixelmator and the changes would get saved back into iPhoto. But now (after getting iPhoto 09, I guess?), it doesn't let me do that, it only lets me save it as a separate file in the finder that I have to import back into iPhoto. Is that how its supposed to work?

It works properly with Photoshop Elements, so maybe the problem was with Pixelmator.
On the other hand, I'm having a similar problem with Quicktime Pro and iPhoto, so maybe it is iPhoto... I posted about that problem here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2294470&stqc=true

  • Edit with external program with iPhoto 09 is broken

    I can't send more than 4 pictures to an external software program. I use iPhoto 09 to store my photos but use Adobe CS4 to edit. I occasionally shoot 20+ frame panoramas and now I have to manually export 4 at a time. Why can't iPhoto export these photos after I select all of them?
    Also, iPhoto 09 exports these pictures out of sequence--i.e. _DSC004 comes before _DSC001, _DSC002, _DSC003. This isn't usually a problem, but why can't the software guys run a sort command before the export?
    Can the software guys be given this complaint?

    I can't send more than 4 pictures to an external software program.
    This has always been true of iPhoto, in every version. My guess is that it’s to prevent folks from inadvertently sending their entire Library to an external editor.
    You can send in batches of 4 that’s all.
    Also, iPhoto 09 exports these pictures out of sequence
    I suspect that this is more a function of how long it takes to open a specific file. I’ve noticed it on earlier versions of iPhoto too.

  • How choose destination folder for images edited in external program?

    Using LR 2.3 with the Windows 7 beta. It seems to me there should be a preference or option to set the destination folder for an image sent for editing in Photoshop. The default is the folder where the originals are located, which seems to me to be the worst choice. In any event, I can't find where in LR the user can choose a destination folder for the edited image. Ideally, the user should be able to choose this for each set of images being edited, and the choice would be available in the dialog that appears when the user sends an image out to Photoshop.
    So is there a way to set the destination folder for the image that results from sending an image out for editing in Photoshop or other external application?
    Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks very much. I have CS4, but haven't installed it yet. So I have been using the rendering option. Apparently that is part of the problem, because I seem to recall that there was a Save As option shown when LR 2 was compatible with whatever the ACR with CS3 was.
    Saving with originals seems an odd default. I wouldn't think too many photographers mix processed work with originals, and making the destination folder choice always available wouldn't seem to be a particularly difficult piece of engineering.
    Anyway, your answer was very helpful.

    I am not aware of having changed any settings or prefs but suddenly I can't sent an image to PS for external editing. I checked the 'external' prefs and they remain as they always were.

    The options in the Photo>Edit In  menu item (menu bar and contextual) are now greyed out, unavailable.

    You are probably choosing the obvious file rather than the correct file as the PSE editor. The actual editor is hidden away inside the Support Files folder. The PSE file at the top level of the PSE folder in Applications is just an alias for the welcome screen and what you're describing is exactly what happens when you choose that. You want this one:

  • How to call external programs?

    I have seen people call external programs through LabVIEW and was curious what functions you could use to do this.
    I'm pretty sure its using one of the ActiveX functions  or maybe 'open application reference .vi'.
    Can anyone tell me (or show me) a quick example of how to open an external program (ie excel,  notepad, etc) programatically

    If you plan to work with MS ActiveX objects, I found it very helpful to do a custom install of Office and make sure the help files for VBA are loaded. These will at the least give you an idea of what the methods are and what parameters go with each.

  • How to find out if an external program is running

    I am using LabVIEW 8.6 and have some vis that start an external program using the System Exec call. The program that is being started was not written by me, and I have no control over it. I need to make sure that it is started before I proceed, but I don't want it started more than once. At the moment I need to terminate it manually when I exit the vi. I also need to make sure that it is not running when I start the vi or I will get two copies. I have a switch to prevent  this, but it requires manual inspection and control every time I start the vi. I would like to know if there is some way the vi can list all the programs running and start the external program only when necessary. Closing it at the end would also be nice, but not as important as starting it once and only once. If I had control over the program I could use the existence of a file to tell me if the program is running or not, but that isn't possible. Is there some tricky way to use stdout in the System Exec call to accomplish the same thing?
    Rich

    Nothing tricky about it. Just use the command appopriate for your OS. For Windows:
    Then just use the Match Pattern function (for example) to search the string.

    If I call direcly from sm 69 with

    Are there any method to call a program from sap without hanging
    of course the program is in its position on application server.
    Thank you in advance.

    Exitcode 2, if returned from the OS, means "No such file or directory". Note that as of SAP kernel release 7, you usually do not have DB6CLP any more. Can you check if the executable is available in the SAP exe directory ?
    If running SAÜ kernel 700 or higher, I suggest to apply a recent SP level.

  • Some ports  randomly get blocked and the external program is unable to rece

    We have configured few ports to send out Idocs using TRFC mechanism. Initially all the ports are working fine and the external program  is able to receive Idocs from all the ports. However after sometime, some ports  randomly get blocked and the external program is unable to receive Idocs from these ports. If the SAP instance is restarted, we see that all ports work fine for a certain period but the same issue appears again after sometime.
    This behaviour is observed in case of TRFC calls but not for normal RFC calls.
    RFC Connections,partner profiles,ports,distribution model - these all are working fine.
    Your help will be appreciated.

  • Editing with other programs in iPhoto

    How to I get iPhoto to give me the option to edit in Ps2? I went into preferences to change the adjusting program, and it only gives me the option of editing in either iPhoto or Graphics Converter. At one time it had several choices, PhotoShop being one of them. Now it only gives me one external program choice. Where did the other ones go?
    Allie

    Allie:
    One word (well maybe a few more than one) of caution. If you do an edit in PS2 that requires a change of extension to .psd, adding layers is one example, you will have to either flatten the image and force save it as a jpg or save the edited file to the desktop and then import it as a new photo. Otherwise iPhoto will not recognize the edit.

  • How can I execute an external program from within a button's event handler?

    I am using Tomcat ApacheTomcat 6.0.16 with Netbeans 6.1 (with the latest JDK/J2EE)
    I need to execute external programs from an event handler for a button on a JSF page (the program is compiled, and extremely fast compared both to plain java and especially stored procedures written in SQL).
    I tried what I'd do in a standalone program (as shown in the appended code), but it didn't work. Instead I received text saying the program couldn't be found. This error message comes even if I try the Windows command "dir". I thought with 'dir' I'd at least get the contents of the current working directory. :-(
    I can probably get by with cgi on Apache's httpd server (or, I understand tomcat supports cgi, but I have yet to get that to work either), but whatever I do I need to be able to do it from within the button's event handler. And if I resort to cgi, I must be able to maintain session jumping from one server to the other and back.
    So, then, how can I do this?
    Thanks
    Ted
    NB: The programs that I need to run do NOT take input from the user. Rather, my code in the web application processes user selections from selection controls, and a couple field controls, sanitizes the inoputs and places clean, safe data in a MySQL database, and then the external program I need to run gets safe data from the database, does some heavy duty number crunching, and puts the output data into the database. They are well insulated from mischeif.
    NB: In the following array_function_test.pl was placed in the same folder as the web application's jsp pages, (and I'd tried WEB-INF - with the same result), and I DID see the file in the application's war file.
            try {
                java.lang.ProcessBuilder pn = new java.lang.ProcessBuilder("array_function_test.pl");
                //pn.directory(new java.io.File("K:\\work"));
                java.lang.Process pr = pn.start();
                java.io.BufferedInputStream bis = (java.io.BufferedInputStream)pr.getInputStream();
                String tmp = new String("");
                byte b[] = new byte[1000];
                int i = 0;
                while (i != -1) {
                    bis.read(b);
                    tmp += new String(b);
                getSelectionsDisplayTextArea().setText(getSelectionsDisplayTextArea().getText() + "\n\n" + tmp);
            } catch (java.io.IOException ex) {
                getSelectionsDisplayTextArea().setText(getSelectionsDisplayTextArea().getText() + "\n\n" + ex.getMessage());
            }

    Hi Fonsi!
    One way to execute an external program is to use the System Exec.vi. You find it in the functions pallet under Communication.
