Editing ipod music library in itunes

When I am plugged into itunes I can see the music that is loaded onto my ipod, but I cannot highlight any of the songs (they are all grey).
I want to edit some album titles, etc, directly on my ipod through itunes but can't figure out how.
Any help out there?

Now I'm confused.
If you delete a song from iTunes and you are autosyncing the iPod, the songs get deleted from the iPod when you plug it in.
If the songs are greyed out on the iPod, you are using autosync.
Select the iPod in iTunes.
On the Summary tab, tick *Manually manage music*, then you shuld be able to edit the song on the iPod.

You buy one and only one download.
As it should have been transferred to your computer when you synced, you can contact itunes support and ask for an exception.

I add my music carpets to iTunes and when I tried to edit any song, all data were in gray color and disabled. What happened? Does anbody know? I've already change many options in the Edition/Preferences menu, but nothing happened.
Thank you very much and i hope that anybody could help me

It is a Vista permissions issue. Give yourself FULL control over any folders with music. You might need it on the parent folders, too.

  • Transfering iPod music library to iTunes

I know i have done this, but i dont remember how.
I am sure i didn't use any other software to do it.
I know i have done it because i ran a script which someone gave me here on the forum, wich only worked for iTunes, then i deleted the iTunes library because it took up to much space on my computer ( oh why did i do that :P :P :P )
Can anyone tell me how to do this?
I know how to access the iPods hidden folder, but iTunes wont accept folders only files wich makes it a problem.

Assuming this is not an iPod touch, see:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=797432#797432
That information is pretty old, but I believe it's still valid.

Were you ever able to solve this problem? If so,

the files in Windows Explorer from the NAS to the
    iPod?
No I wasn't. To be honest I have essentially given up as even if I can fix it, disk space is cheaper than life is long!
Using the NAS in general is no problem. In fact, once iTunes got beyond the initial working out of what needed to be removed from and copied to the iPod, having all my MP3s on the NAS and copying direct to the iPod was no issue.
Following some sage (and frankly scary!) advice at ilounge (http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=163611), I've decided to keep two copies of my MP3s. The fact that my fiendish NAS plan has failed is hurting more than the not-all-that-traumatic reality of duplicating 140GB of files if truth be told!

  • IPod Music Library "Greyed Out" in iTunes when I plug my iPod in... help!

Hi... not sure how to explain this, so I'll do my best... if anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it!
When I plug my video iPod into iTunes via USB, I can see all of the songs in my iPod's music library in iTunes, but they are all "greyed out." The songs in my iTunes are fine and can be accessed, but when I look in the iPod's music library in iTunes, all of the songs show up but are inaccessible. Any ideas??? I'd really appreciate any help!

Grey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to sync automatically with iTunes. If you want to play the iPod songs through iTunes, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes, add playlists to the iPod etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos". The text will change from grey to black and everything will be directly accessible through iTunes:
    Managing content manually on iPod

Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • IPod touch will no longer sync with my music library on iTunes since restoring to factory settings

I had to restore the ipod when it locked my son out as he'd forgotten the passcode.
I have around 1000 songs in my music library on itunes. Sync all songs is checked, but it saying there are 0 songs.
I'd like to sync all songs to the ipod.  Can anyone help please?

Syncing is iTunes keeping your iTunes library (or a defined portion of the iTunes library) "in sync" (the same as) the library on your iPod.  And iTunes syncing of content generally goes in one direction only, from iTunes library on computer to the iPod.  That's why, if you want to sync it to a NEW iTunes library, iTunes is warning you that the existing library on the iPod will be replaced.
So, you cannot transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store). However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your computer, you can add them to your iTunes library.  Once your iTunes library is consolidated with ALL of your songs, you can sync your iPod to it.
NOTE:  If you have songs previously purchased from the iTunes Store on the iPod, you can re-download them at no cost, from the iTunes Store Purchased screen.  The link to Purchased is on the iTunes Store Home screen, under QUICK LINKS.

Had to have my hard drive rebuilt in my PC (not a Mac).  When I reinstalled my music library from itunes, some of the songs did not properly download.  They appear in light colored ink, but will not play and will not synch with my iPod.  How can I get all of my songs back?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Need help with my iPod music library

I made a back-up of my iPod music library by enabling disk use and copying the music folder from the iPod_Control folder. I recently had to restore (some minor problems when I installed iTunes 7 and updated my iPod), and I moved the songs from the backup music folder to my iPod. All of the files transfered, but my iPod doesn't show the new library. I'm assuming that I have to refresh the library, maybe by deleting the old library file somehow. Any advice? I had songs on my iPod that I no longer have acceess to due to my laptop dying, so simply resynching to my current iTunes library won't help, and I'd rather not look through all the crazy folders in my backup to find my missing tracks. Thanks!
    iPod w/video   Windows XP

The iPod usually won't view the songs properly unless iTunes puts them on there.
But, you have that folder, which is a good thing.
I would have iTunes update your iPod with those songs.
In iTunes, go to File-->Add folder to library. Add the iPod_Control folder to the library.
iTunes will import all of those songs into your iTunes library with the correct names and everything. Then you can update your iPod with iTunes and get all your music on there and recognized. Do not delete or move the folder once you add it to iTunes, as iTunes may be reading the music from it, and moving it may not allow you to play songs in your iTunes library.
I would restore your iPod before you put the music on there though, as the music you manually added to the iPod may be taking up space and iTunes won't be able to fill that space with music.

  • IPod music library erased when synching movies

I tried putting some movies (short clips from my digital camera) that are stored in my iTunes library onto my iPod. I followed the steps to sync movies and hit "apply". For some reason all that happened is my entire iPod music library began erasing. The movies never transfered to the iPod and my photos are still on my iPod. I reloaded the music from my iTunes library and tried syncing the movies again and the same thing happend. What is going on? And, is there anyway to retrieve my original iPod music library. I had about 1800 songs on the iPod and only have about 1200 in iTunes.

I reloaded the music from my iTunes library and tried syncing the movies again and the same thing happend.
This should all be done in one sync.
Are you syncing the music then turning off sync music to sync the movies?
is there anyway to retrieve my original iPod music library. I had about 1800 songs on the iPod and only have about 1200 in iTunes.
No. They should all be in iTunes. If not, you can restore them from your backup.

  • How do I get the Air to add my music library to iTunes?

I successfully used migration assistant to transfer all my music from a Windows PC to my new Mac Air.  How do I get the Air to add my music library to iTunes?

thanks for the hint Chris.  I took your meaning of the word "respind" as restarting my Air after the migration.
Actually, it was "respond" (to this post).
If you are not sure of anything below, post back before deleting anything.
You can simply copy the items tin the migrated user to your current user account.
Drag the Music folder, Pictures folder and Documents folder to /Users/Shared.
Then log out of this user and log into your regular user account.
Open 2 finder windows. On teh Finder icon in the dock, right click - New Finder window
Open one to Users/Shared & the other to your user.
On Shared, open Music and drag the contents to your user Music folder.
Do the same for Pictures and Documents (into the same folders).
After it finishes copying, open iTunes and everything should be there.
You can then delete /Users/Shared/Music/ folder.
Do the same for Pictures & Documents.
After everything is copied and you are sure it's in your current user folder, go to System prefs > Users & Accounts and you can delete the new user that you did Migration Assistant with.

  • Adding existing music library to iTunes from an external drive

    Hello -
Just purchased my first Mac and have moved from a PC. I have about 200 Gigs of music saved on my external hard drive and would like to import my music library to itunes on my macbook pro without adding to the macbook internal memory. Can someone explain how I can do this? Thanks in advance.

go iTunes > preferences > advanced and check if there a tick in the box next to +copy files to ... when adding to library+.
if there is, connect the external to the Mac and, using the finder, drag the folder containing the music files into an open iTunes window *while pressing option on your keyboard*.
if you want to be able to play the content on the drive, be sure the drive is mounted on your desktop next time you launch iTunes !
