Editing map lines in iPhoto book

I am trying to draw 3 separate lines terminating in the same place on a map in an iPhoto book. That is a line from point a to point b to point z; another from c to d to z and a third from e to f to z. When I add the locations in order (abzcdzefz) I get lines from z to c and z to e- how can I either avoid that or edit them out?
Thanks!

You are welcome.
There is really no easy solution. I usually include overview maps without arrows at the beginning of the book, and then a separate map for each leg into the later chapters.
Sometimes I simply create a map without arrows in iPhoto and then print it to pdf and add the arrows in Preview. Then reimport it and add the edited map to the book on a full-page photo page.

  • Custom map lines in iPhoto '09 Book

    Hi All-
My family and I just went on a Mediterranean/Adriatic Sea cruise. Using the Map Lines in an iPhoto book plots the lines as you would go via air. Anyway to override this and tell it to use a route via water?
    Lee

Say you went from Temecula, CA to San Diego, CA with a stop off on the Santa Catalina Island but had no pictures from the island.
Get pins set for Temecula and San Diego in the locations. Then select one of the pictures in the book as assign the island locations to it.
Finally add the island location to the Map setting pane and position it between Temecula and San Diego so the lines go from Temecula to the island to San Diego.
One of the photos in the book will be miss "located" but that won't matter.

  • "Edit photo" link in iPhoto Book Project does not work

    Hi,
I am putting together an Book project in iPhoto.  On a few pictures, I would like to edit them to make minor adjustments.
When I right click on the picture in iPhoto Book Project, there is an option to "Edit Photo".
When I click on the "Edit Photo" link, the screen switches to the iPhoto Edit page  but the picture does not load for editing - it's just a black screen.
I can always edit the photo before placing it in the Book, but in a large Book it is more convenient to select the picture on the Book page rather than going back and look for it in iPhoto.
Anyone has experienced/fixed this?  Is this a bug?  I have version 9.2.3
    Thanks
    Armen

Are you able to go to the photo in its Event and edit it there? Apply the fix below:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #1 to repair permissions and #4 to rebuild the database.

  • Editing cut lines in iPhoto

Is there any way to change the font, font size, etc. of pix titles? So far as I can tell, one is limited to whatever font happens and there is no way to alter the fonts used in titles of pix.
    Am I missing something here?

No. It's hard coded into the application. You can change the size of the "Source" text in iPhoto's preferences but only between large and small.

  • Difficulty editing text in iPhoto book project.  I add a page layout with text, but can't edit the text box., Difficulty editing text in iPhoto book project.  I add a page layout with text, but can't edit the text box.

I'm am having difficulty editing text in the iphoto book project.  I have a text box that is pre-populated with text.  I can edit the text once, then if I need to change something, it won't let me delete anything, only add to it.  Anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks!

You should be able to double click in the text box and add or delete text. First  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that doesn't help launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos, create a book  and check to see if the same problem persists. Post back with the results.

  • Iphoto book won't submit - hangs up on map page

I created a 52 page iphoto book in Old World format and created a map page with 4 locations in 2 continents. iphoto hangs up on this page when I try to purchase book. If I eliminate some of locations on map page, or eliminate map page totally, iphoto will allow book to be submitted. Brought this to attention at Genius Bar -they also re-created problem on one of their computers. They also tried other book formats and also had same problem with multiple locations in different continents. Any fixes or do I have to wait for iphoto upgrade?

There's a way around this possibly. See if you can create a PDF for previewing by starting a print job of the book and using the PDF->Save as PDF. If you can create a PDF of the book with the maps the following is a way to get the maps into iPhoto as image files:
1 - open the PDF in Preview, go to the first map page in the PDF (note the Page number) type Command+P.
2 - in the Print window click on the Pages radio button and put in the page number in both fields.
3 - click on the PDF button at the bottom and select *+Save PDF to iPhoto option+.* This will create a jpg file of the page and import it into iPhoto.
4 - repeat for each map in the PDF book.
5 - add the map jpgs to the book in iPhoto.
6 - go the the first map page in the book, change the format to the one that uses a photo for the full page background.
7 - drag the appropriate map photo onto that page. Do the same for the other maps.
f you want to increase the dpi of those map page jpgs you will need to edit the Automator workflow "Save PDF to iPhoto.workflow" so that the dpi is 300 (the maximum needed for books). That workflow is located in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder. I would change the dpi to 300 and save the changed workflow as a new one titled "Save PDF to iPhoto 300 PPI.workflow" in the same location.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

It is automatic - you just go ahead and come back when ever

  • Edit iPhoto book in Aperture

I have an iPhoto book I made prior to acquiring Aperture2. I would like to edit this book's photos in Aperture (i.e., using advanced editing features available in Aperture) and have the changes reflected in the book created with iPhoto. Is there a way to do that without having to re-create the entire book?
    Thanks in advance.

    No.

Any work you do in Lightroom is in the catalog. It is impossible to use Lightroom without a catalog.
In addition, your photos are filed in a specific location, which is determined when you import the photos (this may be a location you have specified or it may be the default location chosen by Lightroom).
So ... unless you specifically choose to delete your photos, your photos have not been deleted. To find them, open Lightroom and select File->Open Recent and select each catalog shown there until you find the one with your 170 photos.
And now ... a word to the wise: as gvb279 and Keith said, you absolutely need to stop doing whatever it is you are doing and learn the basics of Lightroom. You are clearly in need of such basic understanding. In addition to the links given above, there are many valuable instructional tutorials here: Getting Started with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 | Adobe TV

  • Can iPhoto books be shared for editing by others with iPhoto?

Working on a project with a client who would like to handle future edits of their photo book on their own. Can iPhoto books be shared for editing by others with iPhoto?

How do I share the library and book with them?
Copy the library to a thumbs drive and give them the thumbs drive.
The drive needs to be formatted MAcOS Extended (Journaled), with the Ignore Ownership flag enabled.
See this link:  iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users
The clients will need to use the same iPhoto version as you are using.

Do you mean, you have been creating a Photo Book in iPhoto? Or an iBook in iBook Author?
If you are asking about a photo book in iPhoto, what was the last you did in iPhoto, before the crash happened?  Did you add a page with a map?
Then you may have a problem with a bug, where adding a route to a map may render the book unreadable.  In that case the best option is to restore the iPhoto library from the last backup you made, before you added the map to the book.
It is not possible to open the book and to delete the unreadable page. You can only delete the book and start over, if this bug is the reason for the crashes. See for example this link:  Getting rid of problem photo book

  • IPhoto books are often too dark or too light.

I've ordered numerous iPhoto books over the past year. When I receive them , I find that the
exposure quality is all over the map. I recently ordered 3 of the exact same book. All 3 arrived
the same day. One was over-exposed, one perfect, and one was under-exposed. I just
ordered one more of the same book. The white's are grey. Not subtle, but GREY. What can I do?
I want to order 20 of the book I'm referring to, but not if they look like the last one.
Also, I'd like a credit for the last book, and am happy to return it so you can see what I'm speaking about.
I color-balanced my monitor, and haven't changed it. I do check it on occasion.
    I have a MacBook Pro w/ OSX 10.4.11, and iPhoto version '08, 7.1.5.
    Thank you.

I don't believe it has anything to do with your monitor's calibration. Especially since the 3 book order was all over the place. That indicates a printing problem. You can report defective books to Apple at http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/returns/. They have been very responsive in correcting printing problems.
I'd also indicate that you also want to order 20 more and if they can assure that the books will be consistent and correct. Since it's such a big operation I don't know what special QC they can provide for you.

  • Writing in iphoto book

I recently purchased an iPhoto book with only pictures and I got it in the mail today. I want to write in it, physically, to add that personal touch. I was wondering what I should write with? A black pen? I hoped I could write with sharpie but I have a feeling it will bleed through the pages.
If anyone knows/has any tops that would be great:)

I've used these pens to write on glossy surfaces, even glass. The line is fine but worked for me on many surfaces. It is permanent once dried.
