Editing metadata in Finder??

can you edit metadata within finder?? I used to edit my files in Windows Explorer. I was able to edit the artist name, album, album artist, etc. all from the explorer ( Finder for Windows). But, it seems that you can't do any of that editing of file info within Finder, is there some way i can do this like i did with Windows without having to use a third party app?

and of course the only metadata that is viewable within column view is a couple things only applicable to all file types, and you can't even customize it like in windows to include other metadata columns, that's lame as heck, and like i said get info window does no good when you are trying to view a large number of files at once, and even then the metadata is not editable within the get info window, so from what i can tell finder needs to step it up big time, don't let windows have an edge, it's such a simple thing to pull off, if windows can do it, why not mac finder, seems like they are dumbing it down just a little much in this regard

Editing Metadata in Aperture Not Reflected in .jpg File

I edited the Keyword field in Aperture for a .jpg file, but when I view the metadata in Finder, using Get Info, the old Keyword contents persist. This happens for other fields too. What am I missing? Thanks.

Hi Hop. Welcome to the user-to-user Aperture forum.
Aperture is non-destructive: your original image files are never altered. Export your image in order to create an image-format file with all adjustments and metadata changes made in Aperture.

Editing metadata in bridge CC

I've used bridge to edit metadata of all my files as they are downloaded using CS4, now with CC I am having trouble. When I edit metadata and try to save it I get a message that Bridge had trouble writing to file. PS can write to file, and bridge can then see the changes, but I can't make changes in bridge where I'm use to making them to several (300+) files at a time. What am I doing wrong??

OS permission problems are not uncommon with external drives. Although it may sound crazy you may not be an authorized user of the drive. A workaround is to right click on Bridge icon and choose "run as admininstrator".

Editing metadata in a TIFF image

I'm trying to edit TIFF image metadata using ImageIO v1.1 APIs, but something goes wrong...
For a TIFFImageWriter I get the following results:

writer.canWriteSequence = trueSo editing metadata with writer.replaceImageMetadata is not possible (I verified this, an exception is thrown). I thought I could remove an entire image and reinsert it with new metadata, but as you can see writer.removeImage is unavailable, too.
How can I edit a TIFF image without rewriting it to a totally new image file?

Edit metadata without changing modified file date

I'd like to use Bridge (CS4) to edit metadata in both JPEGs and RAW files, without changing the original file date/time stamp.
Any way I can do this? Thanks.

Thanks. I'm familiar with the file date utilities available (I've even written such a program myself), but it seems like an awkward solution.
Since first posting this question, I discovered that I can keep my raw files untouched, by selecting Camera Raw Preferences > Save image settings > Sidecar .xmp files.
I'd like to see a similar setting for JPEG images as well. Please?

Metadata won't be a problem as long as you use Bridge to copy the file from within Bridge to whatever media (flash drive, CD/DVD. email, etc) you plan to use for the sharing.
I'm not sure about the Label part. Maybe it will travel along too.

Unable to edit metadata for some files, Bridge CS6

I am editing metadata for .wav files, and somehow a few of them have become locked for editing. I have checked the properties for these files and still have full permissions for all users.
As you can see in the screen capture below, the pencil icons you click to edit the metadata are gone and an error message comes up. Thanks for any help you can give!

Wow, I just answered my own question...
After an hour trying to figure this out, I decided to just go ahead and edit the images, but "Edit in Camera Raw" was not an option. So, I went to Tools \ Cache \ Purge Cache for Folder "xxx"
Problem solved.

Digital Editions Can't find my iTouch

I have Digital Editions installed and have authorized it. I also have down-loaded a book that I
want to transfer to my iTouch v4.1. When I plug it in, Digital Editions does not find it and I'm stopped
cold. iTunes finds the iTouch and I can see it from my Windows Explorer so I know I'm connected.
What now? I'm stuck and tried everything I can think of. I'm using Windows 7.

Found a good work-around. Go to iTunes, plug in your iTouch and to to APPS. Scroll down to your device
on bottom of the screen and click on "ADD". FInd the book you downloaded with ADE and select.

I require Coldfusion 8 Developer Edition but cannot find the link

I specifically require Coldfusion 8 Developer Edition but cannot find the link anywhere. It appears as though links to it have been replaced with the Dev edition of CF10.
I require this for two reasons:
Firstly, it would be nice to be able to develop on my local PC rather than directly on the production site.
Secondly, the CFIDE folder has gone missing and I have been told that copying the one installed from a Dev edition will fix it.

This is on Windows 2003 Server 32-bit.
I found the original CF8 install file (coldfusion-80-win.exe) and the update to 8.01 (coldfusion-801-win_updater.exe) and used them to install the Developer Edition onto my local PC.
I then zipped up the CFIDE folder and sent it to the server, and extracted it into the correct place (on my server, it was under C:\ColdFusion8\wwwroot)
I had to change the CFIDE path in the \lib\neo-runtime.xml file to get around the "Could not find the ColdFusion Component or Interface CFIDE.adminapi.security" error.
And now it all works again. Thank you for your advice.

Revel date editing/metadata display feature

The Revel app for IOS allows you to edit the date of a photo, but this feature does not seem seem to available via the Revel website, Windows 8.1 app, or Android app. Is this something that will be added soon? Also, I think there needs to be a way to edit metadata, or at least SEE it.

I was playing with it, checking it for you on a project with one MXF HVX-200 clip and it just crashed. Haven't ever tried to change my meta data before, no need, unlike you the HVX writes it for me.

Digital Editions doesn't find books on ereader - possibly because Kobo used w/ different Adobe ID

I used my ereader for the first time on a friend's computer. I was just loading a pdf quickly.
Now, even though I have authorized my computer to my own adobe ID, digital editions doesn't find books I purchase from the Kobo online store. This means I can't move them from my ereader to the digital editions program.
How do I get digital editions to find those books? I have never downloaded those books onto any device but my kobo.

SONY has begun to tighten their controls over their ereaders. The first
step was to change the way their Reader Store works, so that it becomes
more difficult to download content to their ereaders from other sources.
Your husband may experience some issues in the near future when he goes to
use ADE to download to his ereader because of this. Technically, when a
SONY ereader is registered with SONY, the process includes downloading a
Reader Library to your PC. When you plug in a SONY ereader, it looks for
this Library and synchronizes with its contents. SONY can interact with
the library via the Internet, and can change what's there, which then gets
transferred to the PRS.
If bad comes to worse, and your husband's PRS starts to act up when
attached to ADE, there are options to get around this issue. C'mon back if
that happens!

Editing Metadata view

In the inpsector, I've selected "Edit metadata view" and selected a few things from the options that I have set my camcorder to output (data code), in particular the aperture and shutter speed used when recording a scene or photo.
Even though I select these items, and click "OK" they never actually appear in the inspector view, anywhere.
Does anyone know how to do this? I seem to have done everything it says to do in the manual, but must have missed a bit.....

The All option does appear to be missing in 3.2 (not sure if it was in 3.0 or not). In any case, I usually develop my own templates manually. You can also try out the plug-in at: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/metadata-presets which should generate the desired template (including an "all" template) if you so desire. I am not related to this developer but you might take a look at his site for other plug-ins that might benefit your workflow.

Allow editing metadata in develop mode

My biggest dissatisfaction about Lightroom right now is the distinction between Library and Develop modes or views. I would dearly love to get rid of the "quick develop" panel - perhaps make that something that could be displayed via the application prefs - and put the keywords and metadata panels into the develop module. I find myself frequently wanting to switch from one module to another - to add a keyword while I'm adjusting the exposure, or to jump over to the editable histogram while I'm sorting out the keepers from the losers. I don't currently use the Web or Print modules at all, so I just ignore them.

Quick Develop serves 2 purposes - adjustment of lots of images in increments, and adjustment so you can compare and evaluate images (eg when you've been bracketting). It also uses cached data, while Develop accesses the original image data - so things happen quicker.
I didn't like QD at first either, but I'd recommend you give it more of a chance and don't delete it (you can Alt/Opt click it). Secondly, Ctrl/Cmd click the Sync button in Develop so you enter Auto Sync mode - this makes Develop adjustments apply to all selected items and great reduces the back and forth between Library and Develop.

Editing Metadata in PSB files

My production artist brought this to my attention: He is unable to
add metadata to PSB file formats through Bridge (we are currently using CS4).
Has anyone else experience this issue? Is XMP for this format not supported in CS4?
Any ideas on how to work around this? I haven't asked him to see if it's possible to just open the PSB and add the data via the File Info. But this is a bit cumbersome since the PSB file would need to be open in PS.

Actually you can add metadata to a psb file (that is the editable fields in
IPTC core in the metadata tab), You can also view the other metadata.
First of all the file must not be locked (but obvious you have checked that
already)
But probably the file is to large to show in Bridge as a preview or a
thumbnail. Find the file size of the largest psb file you are using and in
Bridge Preferences go to the thumbnail section. Inhere change the 'process
no files large then' field a little above the largest file size.
Now Bridge needs to cache the file first. This takes time (the large the
file the longer) and you might even need to use the right mouse button to
choose purge cache for selection.
When the thumbnail in the content panel is rebuild you should be able to add
metadata. (I just checked it again on a 4 GB sized psb file and that still
worked )

Hello all,
So here I am, starting on a new project with Premiere Pro CS6.0.0 (319 (MC: 264587)). Using a slightly modified "metadata" workspace, I go on to editing info about all my 300 clips - scene, shot, description, remarks ...
And every now and then (sometimes right after I started, sometimes more than half an hour later, and sometimes anything in between) I get this unhelpful message that "After a serious error, Premiere Pro will now exit. The program will try to save your work" (I'm translating from French, so this might not be 100% accurate). I have not identified a particular action that causes that (i.e. editing a specific metadata field or whatever).
My clips are in a normal folder, nothing fishy here I don't think (except that the search bar is greyed out, which renders my metadata campaign fairly useless - will make another post about that). I am not using any plugin or patch (not knowingly at least). I run Mac OS 10.9.4 without known problems. I have 12 Go out of 621 free on my hard drive, 8 Go RAM, and AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics card with 1024 Mo VRAM as well as an Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 512 Mo VRAM (chosen depending on energy needs vs. computation needs).
Any clues ? For example, can I find an error or activity log from Premiere Pro ? Thanks in advance.

Your error report indicates that Photoshop is not up to date. Choose Help>Updates... and update to 11.0.2
