Editing metadata in the file properties

Hi,
I’m using Win XP SP3 on a “normal” Desktop-PC. Since my problem is not connected to hardware I think that description is enough but I do not know which software information is required. So you may ask.
The problem: I always changed and edited some of the metadata of my PDF files by bringing up the file properties window of the PDF (right click - properties). Next to the “General”-Tab is the “PDF”-Tab. You can see the title, author, topic, dates and PDF-Version of the document. The first four fields where always editable textboxes. I get used to put in some comments and other important information because I didn’t want to use any tool. Now the complete window is locked. So my question is why did this happen? Shall this be a Feature of the new 9.3.3 update? If yes I just can say it isn’t. And my question would then be: How I can turn back to the old behavior?
With kind regards
DragJo

Thanks,
I just ran the Acrobat repair installation and I got the expected function back. In addition it does not matter any longer which icon I click (reader or acrobat) to open Acrobat. The reason for having both installed is just that I needed a "pdf viewer" from the first minute after having installed the OS and installing Acrobat needs much more configuration in my case then just the "tiny" Reader equivalent. The best thing: I did not realize any other problem.
Kind regards,
DragJo

    Hi,
I’m using Win XP SP3 on a “normal” Desktop-PC. Since my problem is not connected to hardware I think that description is enough but I do not know which software information is required. So you may ask. Important is maybe that I am running Adobe Acrobat and Reader simultaneously on the same machine.

I updated so many times and never anything like this happened. How can I turn back to the old behavior?
I do not want to edit those information in Acrobat by choosing File and then propertis because it takes much more time because i have to open the file (if it is one its fine) but if there are more where the same info shall be in I'd like to use the built in function of the properties sheet in windows.

At first I asked that question by mistake in the wrong forum so I put in it here. But it has been answered there http://forums.adobe.com/message/2973589
so I mark this as answered, too.

  • Unable to edit metadata for some files, Bridge CS6

I am editing metadata for .wav files, and somehow a few of them have become locked for editing. I have checked the properties for these files and still have full permissions for all users.
As you can see in the screen capture below, the pencil icons you click to edit the metadata are gone and an error message comes up. Thanks for any help you can give!

Wow, I just answered my own question...
After an hour trying to figure this out, I decided to just go ahead and edit the images, but "Edit in Camera Raw" was not an option.  So, I went to Tools \ Cache \ Purge Cache for Folder "xxx"
    Problem solved.

  • What kind of database the SSMA uses to store metadata in the file named "source-metabase.mb" ?

What kind of database the SSMA uses to store metadata in the file named "source-metabase.mb" ?
I'm looking for the method to open the file and add 'cutom migration script' (some automatization).

    Hi Poman.Pokrovskij,
When you generate SSMA Assessment Report, there are several files created and saved into Report folder under your SSMA project folder. It includes
    source-metabase.mb, project-container.mappings, preferences.prefs, and so on.
. MD files are usually saved in plain text format including inline text symbols, defining how a text is formatted such as the indentations, its table formatting, fonts, and headers.
SSMA provides a project setting that allow you to customize how to set customized database migration. For example, to customize data migration SQL statement, you can modify project setting by navigating to Tools and choosing Project Settings,
then looking for the setting for
Extended Data Migration Options and change the value to
Show. You can select use custom select and modify the SQL statement.
For more information about SSMA for Oracle, you can review the following articles. How To Perform Incremental Data Migration Using SSMA:

  • CS6 Photoshop: One newly-created PSD filewon't print because the print dialog box won't appear altho the file properties appear to be the same as other files that do print.

CS6 Photoshop: One newly-created PSD file won't print because the print dialog box won't appear after selecting File > Print.  Then "Print" becomes grayed out. The file properties such as permissions, are the same as other PSD files that do print.  This file also cannot be converted to Adobe PDF, which is not offered as choice under "Save as", whereas other can be.  I've exited, reopened Photoshop, restarted computer, checked out other CS6 PSD files which do print, nothing changes.  The 52 MB file has been flattened. OS is Windows 7.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Sounds like the printer driver is having some problems.
Try holding the space bar down when you select Print (which makes the print dialog NOT load previously used settings).

  • Metadata under the Page Properties is not there - even though I have the latest March 15 Update

    Anyone,
Metadata under the Page Properties is not there - even though I have the latest March 15 Update. ?? Help. Why is this?

It's only there for "normal" pages, not master pages.

  • Editing Metadata in PSB files

My production artist brought this to my attention: He is unable to
add metadata to PSB file formats through Bridge (we are currently using CS4).
Has anyone else experience this issue? Is XMP for this format not supported in CS4?
Any ideas on how to work around this? I haven't asked him to see if it's possible to just open the PSB and add the data via the File Info. But this is a bit cumbersome since the PSB file would need to be open in PS.
    Thanks,
    Lisa

Actually you can add metadata to a psb file (that is the editable fields in
IPTC core in the metadata tab), You can also view the other metadata.
First of all the file must not be locked (but obvious you have checked that
    already)
But probably the file is to large to show in Bridge as a preview or a
thumbnail. Find the file size of the largest psb file you are using and in
Bridge Preferences go to the thumbnail section. Inhere change the 'process
no files large then' field a little above the largest file size.
Now Bridge needs to cache the file first. This takes time (the large the
file the longer) and you might even need to use the right mouse button to
    choose purge cache for selection.
When the thumbnail in the content panel is rebuild you should be able to add
metadata. (I just checked it again on a 4 GB sized psb file and that still
    worked )

  • IPTC Date from the file properties (EXIF) at import?

Is it possible to fill IPTC Date Created Field from the raw-file properties  at import to LR4?
It would be nice – and time saving.

    Thank You  Geoff & Ian
My mistake. I had a checkmark in the empty date-field in my standard metadata-preset. I now understand, that the date-field shall be left blank with no checkmark in the preset to get the date correct in IPTC. Thank You again.

  • How do i get the file properties of any file in the phone?

i need to get the meta data / properties of files in the phone.
in addition, i will need the song title, artist, genre, etc information from video and audio files.
    can somebody help?

but i cant seem to find any APIs Impl. would definitely complex.. as there are no stright api. matching your exact need (not sure if some third party has any library meeting your needs).
that support the function of reading the whole file as the WHOLE file (headers + content). You could read byte by byte or set of bytes using read() and its overloaded method and store in byte[] array.
It get the meaning full understanding of these bytes and get what you really need.. for the audio and video file, you need to go to the specification and read the bytes accordingly.
if there are, then is there a way to rewrite the file?
is there a way to change the bits in the file without creating a new one?Yes you could if you open the file with readwrite (look at Connector) mode and with OutputStreamWriter.
Some of the challenges you would phase are memory issues, performance issues while reading big files..

  • Signing pdf dokuments with the Microsoft Surface pen. How to make the signature a non-editable part of the file?

    Hi!
I have purchased a Microsoft Surface PRO 3. One main reason for the purchase is to sign pdf´s with the Surface-pen on the screen, save the file and avoid paper-printing the documents. Problem is however that the signature doesnt become a solid part of the document when saving it. This makes the signatures randomly not visible on some apple-produkcts, some printers etc.
I use only a free-download-version of the Adobe reader. My question is if a pro-version allow me to save the documents with the electronic signatures as a fixed part of the document - like the rest of the pdf-content?
    Regards Trygve Wedset

    Hi vward26,
You can use Acrobat to make only part of a PDF document editable.
    Kindly refer this FAQ:http://tv.adobe.com/watch/acrobat-x-tips-tricks/how-to-convert-just-part-of-a-pdf-file/

  • Splitting a document by bookmark removes the reading setting language in the file properties

I have created a tagged document and set the reading option language to English and it passes a full accessibility check. I also want to post the individual chapters so I have split my document by bookmarks. All of the tagging and reading order is retained but the language setting is blank and the individual files fail the accessiblity check. The whole project creates 176 smaller files so resetting the language for each is not an ideal solution.
    Acrobat 10.1.7
    Help!

Sorry for the delay in responding.
I don't think there is any way to make the default language for the created files.
You can create a Fix Up that Sets the Language and then Make an Action that will run that Fix Up on all the files in a folder. Fixups are in the Preflight dialog.
I was able to do it in less thant 10 minutes using these instructions -- and what I already knew about creating an Action.

  • In Mountain Lion, how do I find the location of an open Preview File?  The file "properties" tab is no longer available.

I typically have several open Preview files at any one time and often forget where, sometimes if, I saved them.  In Mountain Lion, how do I find the location of an open Preview File?  Tried holding option + command in spotlight but I don't see a path name appear anywhere.

Yes, cmd-option on a file you choose in Spotlight and the path will appear at the bottom of the Preview window.
EDIT: Also, if it is bookmarked the path is in Bookmarks.

  • Photoshop layer editing after closing the file

I'm still a bit green in some areas.  I am now adding multiple layers to a picture for advertising etc and I cannot figure out how to save that file with all the layers, close it and come back to it at a later time and still be able to view and edit all the separate files.  I know there must be something really simple that I am missing but I don't know what it is.  There has to be a way to do this.

Twenty_one - thank you.  You saved me.  I tried finding this answer in PS help and on Lynda.com and no luck.  I guess it was just supposed to be a no brainer.  I've been teaching myself with tutorials so far but never found this.  I really appreciate you taking the time.

  • Printing to PDF in Digital Editions breaks out the file

I don't like that if you allow printing of a PDF in your DRM permissions that a user of Digital Editions can print to a PDF and essentially "break" the DRM by creating a new DRM-free PDF.
Is there a way to prevent this?
Thanks for the help. (I'm not the ACS server tech guy, but just hoping someone can help so our tech guy can stop this from happening - without turning off printing completely.)
    Mike

Any new activity on this?  I've only been putting up files with No Printing Allowed in the DRM settings.
Is there a way to allow printing, but not allow some one to print to a new DRM-free PDF?
