Editing Movie Expiration Date in SWF? (lost project files)

Hello, big fan of Captivate and now use Captivate 3.
We use this for our customer demonstrations and training
tutorials.
One of my presentations took about 12 hours to "film" - I
saved this project with a Movie Expiration as it is a sales
presentation and I don't want people keeping old demos around.
Anyhow... a careless click had me delete the source files in
Captivate. I still have my output movies... is there any way I can
open the movies and push my expiration day out, or am I "up a
certain creek without a paddle?'
I had to ask before sitting down and re-recording the entire
movie... was hoping to have a Normal weekend, but maybe not?
Best Regards,
-steve

Hi Steve
If all you need is to buy some extra time for displaying the
movie, consider simply changing the system time on the PC running
the demo. There is nothing I'm aware of in the file that would
prevent this. This could then buy you some time to re-create that
source file.
You may also wish to hammer the development team to create a
decompiler for Captivate content. Something that sucks in a
Captivate created .EXE or .SWF file, and spits out a functional .CP
file. You may do this by
clicking
here.
Cheers... Rick

    # Question
    Can you please help to understand how the firefox decides on the Expires date for a cached javascript file ( my server did not set any Expire header, but firebox set it down). I tried to understand but different javascript file gets different Expires date value when it is being cached. Please help me as I tried lot and could not get proper answer for this. Thanks in Advance.

  • I lost project files, found them and lost them again...

    How do you recover lost project files in Aperture?  I had them one day and they were gone the next day.

    So when you looked in the library tab of the Inspector the projects and albums were not there or do you mean when you looked in a project the images weren't there?
    What did the Best Buy associate to to recover what was lost? Knowning that would make this a lot easier.

  • LOST Project File when external hard drive accidentally unplugged!

    My external hard drive got knocked out and the project file is now nowhere to be found anywhere. Anybody experience this and/or have ANY advice?

    Thats bad news ... how long had you been working on the project? Regardless, it looks like its time to start over. Looking on the bright side tho, its a valuable lesson well learnt and a good reminder to everyone else. Never keep all your eggs in one basket ie keep you main project file and autosave files separate. Personally, I keep the your Autosave Vault on an external drive but work with the main project file on the internal (startup) drive, then copy that saved main project file across to the external as a backup at the end of each day. And re the autosave settings, make sure they are suitable ... I see lots of folks leave their autosave at the default save every 30 minute setting ... don't know about you but my fingers work fast enough that 30 minutes work would be way more than I'm willing to use.
    Good luck with the rebuild

  • JPEG 'Date&Time' is lost when files transfered

    Hi
    This is really annoying - can anyone help pls? I take photos on camera and download into iPhoto. Friends give me their photos too etc. iPhoto orders these correctly by date (when the photo was taken), regardless of the file name (DSC0097 etc) as there can be many different file labels, depending on he source. However, when you copy the file to a new folder, eg to external hard disk, the file loses the original Date/time info. The 'Date Modified' or 'Date Created' of the new file is simply the date of tranfer of this new file. How can you ensure the original date and time information is retained?
    thanks

    RichardCooke
    iPhoto gets the date and time of the Photo from the Exif metadata that is part of the Photo’s File. When you export to the Finder the file is arranged by the File data, because the Finder is not saavy to the Exif. However, open the exported file in a photo app and you will see the date and time are correct.
    Organisation in the Finder is alpha-numeric. So one way to duplicate the listing is to batch the titles of the photos using Photo -> Batch Change command. Give the pics consecutive numbers and export from iPhoto using the File -> Export command. Set the Filename to Title.

  • Project Files & Saving

    There is often confusion between Saving a Project and Exporting/Sharing a Video from that Project.
    Let’s look at what a Project file is. In PrE, this is a .PREL file. In PrPro, it’s a .PRPROJ file. These are just XML database files, that define the Project, show where the media used in that Project was located the last time that you had the NLE (Non Linear Editor) program and that Project, open. Then, there are instructions as to what one has done to those media Assets. There is no media, of any sort included in it.
    If you open it up in WordPad, or an XML editor, it looks something like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <PremiereData Version="3">
    <Project ObjectRef="1"/>
    <Project ObjectID="1" ClassID="62ad66dd-0dcd-42da-a660-6d8fbde94876" Version="20">

    <NextSequenceID>2</NextSequenceID>
    <CustomCompileSettings ObjectRef="103"/>
    <StillCompileSettings ObjectRef="93"/>
    <MovieCompileSettings ObjectRef="88"/>
    <ProjectSettings ObjectRef="77"/>
    <RootProjectItem ObjectRef="2"/>
    <AudioCompileSettings ObjectRef="98"/>

    <Columns.List Version="3">
    <Columns Version="1">
    Note: in the actual Project file, there will be much indentation, that does not show up above.
    There is much, much more, but this should give you an idea. You cannot "play" this file with any media player. Remember, there is zero media in it, only links to that media. Also, there are only two programs that can do anything but allow one to edit the various text lines in a Project file. PrPro can open both types, .PREL’s and.PRPROJ’s, with a few exceptions. PrE can ONLY open .PREL files and will give you an error that "this Project was created in PrPro. Use that program to open this Project." There are no exceptions to this, though who knows if PrE 8 will be able to open .PRPROJ files?
    Now that we know there is no media in these files, what good are they? Well, they contain links to the location of the media and also instructions on what one has done to that media. They are the instructions for PrE and PrPro, with descriptions of all edits. They are the working tools of both of these NLE programs. They also must be set up, before one can do anything else in these programs.
    As one works with the Project, they will want to Save their Project files, or any edits will be lost. There are basically three ways to this, plus one additional variation.
    First, there is Save. It records all operations and instructions to the previously created Project file, overwriting the previous version. I do this often and usually use Ctrl+s for this purpose.
    Next, we have Save_As. This does a Save, but with two variations: it allows one to set a new name, or location for this Project file. I use this and increment the Project file’s name, as I go. This does NOT overwrite the existing Project file, but writes another one, with the name, or location that the user assigns. The second part of this, and quite important, is that not only does it Save with the new name/location, but it keeps this new Project open in the NLE. You are now working on the new version, and not the original. To me, this is especially useful, if I want to leave the original version untouched, in case I need to go back to it at some date. After a day of editing, or after some big changes, I’ll make sure to do this, so I have the original, plus this newly edited version. By incrementing by 1, I know that if I am working with [Project Name]_05, it came after [Project Name]_04, so it is newer.
    Then, we have Save_As_a_Copy. How does this differ from Save_As? The biggest difference is that it does not overwrite the original, allows one to change, or increment, the file name/location, but it does NOT stay open in the program. You are still working with the original version, and this Save_As_a_Copy version is tucked away, in case you need it at some time. I use this, when I just want a record and a backup of that moment for possible later use. It’s more of a "snapshot" of how things were at that moment.
    Last is the "variation" that I mentioned. This is AutoSave. Depending on one’s Preferences, these will be stored in the AutoSave folder in the Project’s hierarchy. By default, one will have five of these and they will reflect that they are AutoSave files. Note: one must do a first Save in an editing session to start AutoSave, which will make an AutoSave copy at the time interval set in Preferences. Also, Premiere is pretty smart. It will NOT just AutoSave every 5 mins (or whatever time interval is set in Preferences), unless some work has been done. This is a good thing, as AutoSave will overwrite the previous files in that folder. If you go to lunch, if it did not keep track of edits being done, one would end up with 5 exactly identical copies of the same file in AutoSave. This would not be that useful.*
    Now, because it does overwrite your previous AutoSave files, you need to pay close attention, should you ever need to use an AutoSave Project file. By default, there will be five files, _001, _002, _003, _004 and _005. However, because of that overwriting (basically FIFO), you need to change the View in Windows Explorer to Details, and sort by Date/Time, to make sure that you are getting the latest version. Remember, _003 could well be newer than _005. Watch out for this, and do the Sort on Date/Time to be sure.
    Hope that this helps one distinguish between Project files and Video FROM that Project, plus give some tips on Save, Save_As, Save_As_a_Copy and also AutoSave.

    * It has come to my attention that as of PrPro CS3, things have changed with Auto-Save. One does not need to do an initial Save to start Auto-Save, but if left Open, though no editing is being done, the Auto-Save will keep on overwriting the files at the set interval, say every 5 mins.. What this means is that if you leave a Project Open for 25 mins., have the number of Auto-Saves at the default of 5 and the default of every 5 mins., you will have 5 copies of the same Project file. I do not know what Adobe was thinking here, as Auto-Save should not be active, if no editing is being done. I often have a Project Open, but am working in PS, AI, or Encore, so there is no editing being done in PrPro, but there soon will be. I do not want all previous Auto-Saves being overwritten with the same exact file. With PrPro CS3 or higher, I strongly recommend that one does a lot more Save_As and Save_As_a_Copy, than in previous editions, or they might be in for a rude surprise, if they went to lunch, or just left the Project Open for a half-hour.

    There is a special use for the Save, Save_As and Save_As_a_Copy, that might not be readily apparent. As we have discussed how the three differ, I will only cover this use, and the user can then choose which works for them.
    Often, an editor will work on a large Project, but need to break out segments of that Project into separate "mini Projects." The easiest way to do this is to make sure that a Save has been done for the full, large Project. Then, just Delete anything not needed in the new mini Project. This could be Clips on the Timeline, Assets in the Project Panel, or Sequences (in PrPro only). When done, just choose Save_As, or Save_As_a_Copy. If more "versions" of that large Project are needed, Open the original, repeat the Deletions, and then do the appropriate Save_As, with another name, or into another location.
    Remember, all forms of Save are for the entire Project, and not just elements of it, unless you remove all unnecessary elements.

  • Very big iMovie project file

    Here is what I do. I record a movie with Miglia Eyetv and a Mac Mini, setting Apple Imovie, it is ---.mp4 format. The file is about 1,7 gig. Next I want to remove begin and end, commercials and add some chapters. So I import the movie file into iMovie. After doing the simple editing stuff I end up with a project file about 26 gig (!?). Then I want to share it with iDVD to burn a disk. The disk space that is required is about 7 gig. It is to big for a single layer disk.
    The editing work is done on my new iMac. I think I have enough power under the hood to do this kind of work.
    Then, I life in Europe, so my records are in PAL. Each time I create an iMovie project its is set in NTSC. I cannot change anything; Preferences doesn't show any option. Importing the mp4 file takes considerable time, probably because the recoding PAL to NTSC.
    In short, I want to burn (a standard, 2 hour, movie) on a single layer disk, with normal quality. Then I don't want to hustle withe the PAL - NTSC thing.

    You can set the PAL vs NTSC when you create a project. However, if for some reason you cannot, you can export the movie as QuickTime and convert it. You can wait until you have completely finished the movie and then convert it, or you can export it at the beginning when you have just a couple of clips in the movie, and then you can continue to add to your movie and edit it.
    See this from iMovie help:
    +Exporting your movie for viewing in PAL or NTSC format+
    +When you first create a new project in iMovie HD, you can select a video format for the project. The video and images you later add to the iMovie are converted to this format. However, if you need to format your movie to be viewed on a VCR or DVD player that uses another format, you can use the expert export options to convert your movie.+
    +NTSC is a format commonly used in North America and Japan. PAL is a format commonly used by devices in Europe. There are also different versions of these two formats, such as DVCPRO-PAL and DVCPRO50-NTSC, so determine the precise format you need before exporting.+
    +To export a movie in NTSC or PAL format:+
    +Choose Share > QuickTime.+
    +Choose Expert Settings from the "Compress movie for" pop-up menu, and then click Share.+
    +Type a name for your movie and choose where you want to save it.+
    +Choose "Movie to QuickTime Movie" from the Export pop-up menu, and then click Options.+
    +In the Video pane, click Settings to open the Compression Settings dialog.+
    +Choose a format from the pop-up menu (DV-PAL or DVCPRO-PAL for Europe, DV-NTSC or DVCPRO-NTSC for North America and Japan).+
    +Choose a value from the Frames Rate pop-up menu (25 for PAL and 29.97 for NTSC)+
    +Drag the Quality slider to the desired quality. Best is recommended.+
    +Click OK.+
    +Click Size to open the Export Size Settings dialog, and then click "Use custom size."+
    +Type a value in the Width field (720 for both PAL and NTSC) and in the Height field (576 for PAL and 480 for NTSC), and then click OK.+
    +Click Settings in the Sound pane.+
    +Choose Stereo (L R) from the Channels pop-up menu in the Sound Settings dialog.+
    +Choose 48.000 from the kHz pop-up menu (or type it in the Rate field).+
    +Choose 16 from the "Sample size" pop-up menu, and then click OK.+
    +Click OK in the Movie Settings dialog.+
    +Click Save.+

  • Another Project File is Missing error

    To make a long story short... after importing video clips into iMovie and then pulling the .dv files out of the project file and reimporting the files into another movie, now when I try to open the movie, I get the error "A Project File is Missing" and the ignore/ignore all error alerts. When the movie finally opens, the clips are missing, but they are in the trash.
    I can pull them out of the trash and work on them, but the edits don't save. If I try to resave the project, then close and re-open it, I still get the errors. I'm using iMovie HD v.5. I am running OS 10.4.9 from an external firewire drive formatted HFS Extended (Journaled). When I start, there's about 57 GB of free space on the drive. After importing the files (one 9.5 and one 8.1 GB in size ), there's 39.9 GB of free space on the drive. There are two files in the Media folder... copies of the original dv files.
    What can I do to save the project, so the files are considered part of the project?

    Hi Chad - I'm sure you will be helped also by the real experts on this forum, but in the meantime you should be aware that iMovie cannot import MPEG files. You will note that the Error Message is saying there is an unarchiving problem. They must first be converted to DV format. You may need a free app. called StreamClip for this operation:

    Hope this helps.

  • Premiere creates garbage zero-byte file while saving, project file dissapears/corrupts

    Hi guys,
    I've been experiencing a strange intermittent technical problem with Premiere project saves (and sometimes After Effects project files).
    Case:
    - Editor opens a project.
    - After a moment, as editor hits 'save'.
    - A strangely named file appears in the save location with no extension (a long string of characters separated by hyphons).
    - Sometimes, this garbage file disappears and project is saved. Other times, this file remains and original project file disappears and the editor doesn't even know!
    - If editor hits save again, a message box appears saying the file has been modified since last save - hit cancel or OK.
    This issue has meant that we've lost project files, and have had to recover them from auto-save and/or Creative Cloud sync folder.
    Sometimes it saves ok!
    This is what the strange file looks like.
    I don't know if this issue is related to Adobe software, Mac os or Linux but we've only run into it while using Adobe software.
    Sometimes, After Effects throws an error related to this as well, forcing you to either 'save as', or incremental save.
    It's a networked editing environment - all clients are Mavericks macs, working from a Ubuntu Linux server via SMB via gigabit ethernet. All clients are authenticated to the server as the same Admin user. Directory and Create masks are 0755 in SMB settings. SMB.conf also has some tuning parameters: socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_RCVBUF=65536 SO_SNDBUF=65536
    Op-locks are disabled at server-side (I thought it could be to do with oplocks).
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Or perhaps someone could explain to me the behind-the-scenes process that happens when Premiere executes a save?

    Glad to hear it's not me going crazy, but unglad that you're experiencing it!
    Recently we replaced SMB with NFS as the protocol for sharing our main raid volume and cache, and since then this issue no longer happens.
    This definitely points to the way Adobe apps with with SMB. I have a feeling it's something to do with oplocks or something behind the scenes that denies PP access to the project file for overwriting it.
    TBH, as a bonus NFS feels like a rocketship to planet editor-bliss. It's a proper beast. Unfortunately I'm not sure how good the Windows implementation is (I know certainly that only windows 7/8 enterprise clients are able to access NFS shares, which is a bummer for most).

  • Corrupt audio file prevents me from opening Logic project file

    Hello,
    I've been running Logic 8 for a couple years off my MacBook and have never encountered any significant problems of file corruption until recently.
    The issue I encountered is this:
    I've been producing a lengthy track in an on-going Logic project file for some time and after completing a recording session I saved and started deleting excess track copies to clean up my arrange window. Upon doing so Logic unexpectedly crashed.
    After attempting to reopen the project file, it started its normal process of loading its respective audio files, but now it hangs on one particular audio file indefinitely (I'll refer to it as 'audio file x' for ease of reference), freezing and crashing Logic as a result. All of this project file's auto backup files are also incapable of being opened without giving me the same result and crashing Logic.
    I have no way of opening this project file and getting at my most recent saved sequence!
    I've tried removing this corrupt 'audio file x' from the project's audio folder and dragging it to the desktop, but this had no effect and I still can't open any recent version of the project file.
    Older saved copies of the current project file do still open though (most likely because they were saved prior to the corruption caused by this suspect 'audio file x.') When opening an earlier iteration of the project, I get a message '1 invalid audio region found' (I assume referring to the corrupt suspect 'audio file x' that I removed to the desktop) but the project file is still able to open.
    I realize I could import the audio files from the most recent version of the crashed file to an older project version and reconstruct things back to the way they were, but it would take me a lot of time and I'm hoping there may be some way to recover the un-openable project file by getting it to stop looking for this corrupted 'audio file x' on startup.
    When I click 'show package contents' of the Logic Project file, I notice two items labeled 'displayState' and 'documentData.' From my troubleshooting I've come to the basic understanding that the 'documentData' file contains all the sequence data and settings for its respective Logic Project file.
    I think the 'document data' of the unopenable project file in question may be corrupt because whenever I replace it with the 'document data' from an earlier Project file version, the file is able to open. This doesn't do me much good though, because it's document data from an earlier iteration of the project and I need to be able to get at the current sequence I had right before my file crashed.
    Is there anyway to open a project file without letting it load its audio files? Or is there anyway I could get inside the 'document data' file to delete the reference/pathway in its audio bin to the corrupt 'audio file x' its hanging on?
    Any insights would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping there's some way I won't have to repeat a couple days worth of work. Thanks for your help!

    stooby3535 wrote:
    After further troubleshooting I've realized that the suspicious audio file that prevents the project file from opening is actually not corrupted itself. I can still play the audio file in other media software like Quicktime, etc. with no problem.
    This leads me to believe the problem opening the project file lies solely with the corrupted 'documentData' file.
    Does anyone have any ideas about how I could somehow open this project file and delete the reference of the troublesome audio file from the project's audio bin?
    Well... it really sounds like the project itself is corrupted, that's one of the reasons all project files won't load from a certain point on.
    Try this.
    Reboot the Mac.
    Open the Applications folder and boot Logic from it's icon.
    As soon as the Logic Logo/graphic window appears on the screen hold down the control key. You will see a message pop up that says something like "Launch the Core Audio Driver" there will be yes/no choice available... select NO.
    Go to the File menu and selct "open" go find your project file and see if it will open. If it does.. delete the audio file in question... however.. I would also look at any plugins you recently installed and are possibly using in this project...this sounds more like a plugin problem rather than an audio file problem, but that's just a gut feeling.
    Anyway, if it opens delete whatever you suspect and save under a different name.
    Reboot Logic and see if it can load the project.

  • Multiclip sync problem when transfering project file to another editbay

    I edited a mulitclip and saved the project onto the same scratch drive as the media files. The scratch drive is networked to two other edit bays. When I pull the project file and media files from the networked scratch drive and put them onto the drive of another machine, the multiclip will play in the timeline, but is not editable. I have reconnected the media files from the scratch drive to the new drive, but when I try to change camera angles, they are either unavailable or the multiclip will pull footage from a different multiclip in a different project.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    1. The way you are doing that, you are only copying pointers to the original file into your final project. As soon as you remove one of the single-track files, you'll get an error msg, and the recording is gone. To avoid this, you have to "Save as Archive" the final project each time you inserted a new recording!
    2. Yes, it's possible, but a bit tricky, and you risk damaging you projects:
    - Locate the source project in the Finder.
    - Ctrl-click it and select "Show Package Content".
    - Open the folder called "Media", and you'll see your recordings.
    - Pick the ones you want and drag them into your opened targed project.

    I moved LR5 catalog (Irdata & Ircat) to a new hard drive and photos. Lost all meta data - How do I move meta data along with catalog?
    The meta data for each image is missing.
    I have over 2,000 images. I don't want to go back through each image and add meta data.
    Is there some way to move everything?

    No, do not re-import your images. I assume you can see the thumbnails in the library module, just cannot access the full images, right? If this is the case there should be an exclamation mark in the top right corner of every one of your pictures and you only have to tell LR where the images are now.
    Click the exclamation mark of one of the images and a dialog window should pop-up, telling you that LR cannot find the file, but with an option to locate it. Press "Locate" and navigate to the folder on your new HD where the file is. If in the new external HD you kept the same folder structure that you had on the internal disk, LR will be able to find all your images and re-link them to the database without further intervention.

    Hello, K M Cartwright.
    Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    You definitely can delete the movie prior to the expiration date.  However, the movie will automatically disappear from your iTunes library 24 (or 48) hours after you've begun viewing it.  Here are the steps on how to delete iTunes media.
    How to delete content you've downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store

  • MacBook Pro with SSD that has a limited disk space (120GB). Rendering in Project File (User/Movies/Final Cut Projects), it takes huge space and the limited disk space would not be enough for the whole editing.

    I'm using MacBook Pro with 128GB SSD that has a limited disk space. As we know, when rendering in Project File (User/Movies/Final Cut Projects), it takes huge space and the limited disk space would not be enough for the whole editing.
    My question is, Is there any method to get the rendering Projects file saved into an external hard drive which is connected with USB/ Thunderbolt/ Firewire, with huge disk space (eg. 500GB HDD).
    Now, new project created in my Mac is automatically saved in (User/Movies/Final Cut Projects) and my Mac has ran out of space to hold the files.
    Thank you.

    You have at least 3 different ways to show the project library:
    1) Go to WIndow->Show Project Library
    2) Click the button in bottom left of your window:
    3) Hit the keyboard shortcut (Command-0)
    The project library will be shown, occupying the area where the timeline usually is.
    Your hard disks will be visible. Click the hard disk where you want the new project to reside and hit Cmd-N to create a new project.
