Editing multicam clips - where is proxy playback option?

Whenever I have been editing Mutlicam clips, I would always choose the "Proxy" option in playback as my media is stored on an external drive.  If i didn't, it just wouldn't play smoothy.
After updating I can't seem to find the option to choose proxy and the clips dont play smoothly, playback jerks after a second or two.
This is
Any ideas? If it goes to the trouble of creating proxy media (and the proxy files are indeed still where they should be) - surely there should be a way of using them?
Also - can anyone settle an argument: If a project is edited in 'proxy playback', does that need to be switched off to export in full quality?
I used to think it did, but not sure at all now with 10.1.
(2011 2.7 i5 27" iMac)

Ah! Found it in the top right menu!
Selected 'Proxy' and was greeted with the familiar 'beachball of non response'.
Forced quit as usual and when I relaunched I was back editing in Proxy land!
All is smooth and lovely again!
Now, I wonder if i need to switch it back to get full quality export?
Any ideas?

  • How to mute ALL audio in one single go in an edited multicam clip?

    Hi there
I'm having to replace some audio in an already edited multicam clip. (there are mulitple audio parts I'm replacing by the way)
How can I mute ALL of the audio in one go, as I have about 400 cuts and am currently having to mute one by one per cut.
    thanks

Easy. Select them all. In the inspector, click the Audio tab. Under "Channel configuration", uncheck the box which would say something like "400 selected clips".

  • No Proxy Playback option in 10.1.1

    Hi Guys,
Did a shoot yesterday and thought I'd give MultiCam editing a try in 10.1.1.
I have a Mac Pro 8-Core with 23gigs of RAM... and understandably, when trying to run through the 10 clips I have, playback is very jumpy.
So I tried to switch to Proxy playback, but there seems to be no option for it now.
I know the clips have been optimized because I always select this option when importing, and I can even see the Proxy clips in the finder.
    Have I missed something?

If you select the multiclip in the browser and then open the Inspector, do you see green icons showing the Available Media Representations?

  • Edit multicam clip in cs4

how do i update a multicam clip without having to start cutting from the beginning of the clip  in ppcs4 ?

    Kris,
My answer was meant to be geniunely helpful, with a bit of innocent joking.
I had a hunch (which proved right), based upon your description, that the buttons feature might not be as great as might be expected (which I indicated), and I decided to add the known viable solution just in case it might be helpful, trying to avoid any offence by the opening presumption.
Sorry for being rude, Jacob. Your original reply—the part where you indicated that you still use Illustrator 10, before you deleted that part—is what set me off again.
That part was merely changed to be more figurative, referring to a recurring subject.
The joker must face the effects of the joke. If you wish, I will try to remember, and spare you.

  • When i edit imported clips, where does the scrap go?

The reason I ask this is - let's say I capture a clip from my camcorder that ends up being 2.5 gigs. I import it into iMovie, then trim it to 1/4 the original size. The amount of space available on my HD stays the same, and the footage doesn't go into the trash for me to empty, it just seems to disappear... Any ideas as to how to regain this HD space?
    Thanks!!

    Hello Wontwa,
what you have experienced is called "non-destructive editing", which means that if you import a 10 min clip, then split it into 20 individual clips and delete 19 of those individual clips, your project file will stay the same size. this occurs because the splitting only took place on the timeline, and even if you empty iMovies trash the source clip remains in your project as long as there's still a part of it on the timeline that refers to it.

  • How do i replace a multicam clip?

I have a multi clip timeline which is a recital and that is synch'd to the external audio recording which was imported from Pro Tools.
I would like to replace a couple of clips with a third camera angle.
When building the timeline, I just used undo to delete the unwnted edit and just went from there.
What I want to do is overwrite the time line with an different camera angle without screwing up my synch.
    Current version of FCPX 10.0.9
    How is this done?

With an angle in the multicam clip? You can use Option and the amngle number. You can right-click and select the angle. Or do you mean repalce with a shot that's not in the multicam clip.

  • Problem seeing multiple angles in a multicam clip

I'm trying to create a multicam clip for the first time.  I watched a tutorial and am following along with it.  It's a basic multicam clip I'm creating from two fairly brief clips in my Event browser.  To save time, I inserted markers and used those (instead of the default audio syncing) to sync the two clips.
When I create the clip, it appears in the Event browser immediately (with the small four-screen indicator at the top left of the clip).  But, when I drag this multicam clip to my timeline (and open the angle viewer), I only see one angle in the angle viewer no matter where I place the playhead.
The two clips I created the multicam clip from are each about 16 minutes long, they don't cover exactly the same 16 minutes of what I was filming.  One clip starts a little sooner than the other.  So I expected that there would be a section at the beginning and a section at the end of the multicam clip where I would only see one angle or the other in the angle viewer, but that throughout most of the 16 minutes I would see both angles in the angle viewer.  But, as I said, the problem is that there is no point anywhere in the multicam clip where I see.
Interestingly, in the timeline, the multicam clip is just one of the angles followed by the other angle (starting at the same point).  So it's like I just took the two clips that comprise the multicam clip and joined them into one longer clip.
What am I likely doing wrong?  Please keep in mind that I've never created a multicam clip before, so it could be some very basic and obvious.

Okay, playing around with the settings enough, I finally got this to work.  I had to change the Angle Assembly: setting from Automatic to Camera Angle.  They didn't do that in the tutorial.  Does anyone know why this solved the problem?  I want to understand what I was doing wrong.  Thanks!

  • How do I replace the proxy files in my edited multicam sequence?

I have edited the sequence with a proxy MULTICAM clip. Now I want to replace the proxies with the hi-rez media. I can replace footage in the individual A-B cam clips but how do I replace the footage in the multicam clip so it automatically updates in the edited sequence?
    Thank you,
    Patrice

you can cmd/ctrl double click the multicam sequence to open it, then do your offline/relink. can also open the multicam sequence from the bin, right click and choose open in timeline.  if the file names and extensions are the same you could also try the old folder swap method.

  • How to edit a clip in a multicam sequence (CS6)?

I am using Premiere CS6 on Mac, I have a multicam sequence set up (2 cam).
I just want to color correct cam 2 to match cam 1 and I cannot figure it out. Everything I try applies the correction to the entire sequence.
If someone can provide exact steps to apply color correction to one clip in the sequence only (it's just brightness/contract, nothing complicated), so that it's reflected in the multicam sequence I'd be grateful. Even a link to a tutorial would be good as I cannot seem to find it online (almost everything points to CC which I don't use and is totally different than CS6).
    Please help!

Ok, I finally figured it out, no thanks to Adobe's crap "Help" system, which is missing MANY steps...
    1. Right-click the Multi-Camera Source Sequence in the Project tab (NOT the multicam sequence you're editing). It's the one with the green/blue lines perfectly lined up.
    2. Choose Open in Timeline.
    3. In the Timeline, make the edits you want to the clip you want (in this case, Brightness/Contrast on clip 2)
    4. Go to Window > Multi-Camera Monitor
    5. You'll see your source clips stacked in the window, and you can fine tune from here.
    6. Click on the Multi-Camera Sequence you're editing in the Timeline, and the Monitor should update to reflect your changes.
You can toggle back and forth between these sequences in the timeline, adjusting as you need.
This was incredibly easy for me to document, I really fail to understand why the Help file couldn't be bothered. It's completely missing things like what the difference is between the source multicam sequence and the program multicam sequence, how to edit a clip in your multicam sequence, and how the multicam monitor works. Really pisspoor documentation, but at this point, I don't expect anything else from Adobe.

  • FCP7 HELP - Exported quicktime mov plays differently than what I edited on the timeline. The playback shows the clips with ins and outs that are different than what I set in the clips when I edited - some are too early and the clips don't playback

    Please help ASAP.
    Specs: IOS 10.6.8
    Processor 2.4GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 -- Everything is edited, sourced, and stored on an 2TB external hard drive to make things go faster.
    Editing with FCP 7
When I export the sequence I edited with quicktime, the playback video is very different from what I edited on the timeline. The playback has the clips with ins and outs that are way off than what I cut, and some of the clips don't show at all or have changed transitions. However when I play in the timeline in FCP, the sequence is fine, just the way I cut it.
The source of the clips was one long .mov that I cut into clips for the timeline. Everything has gone smoothly but the exported .mov is just so different.
How can I get the time codes of the clips to be the same in the exported .movs? I just want the quicktime .mov to represent my edit exactly.
This video is due tomorrow - if the solution is too time consuming, can I play within the FCP player window and Log and Capture?
    Thanks,
    MV

What is your source material? Is it H.264? FCP does not work correctly with that material.
Click on a source clip in the FCP Browser, and once selected, type Command + 9 to see the item properties for the clip. Either report those properties, or take a screen shot of the item properties, and post that here.
Next, click anywhere in your timeline, and then type Command + 0 {zero} to see your Sequence Settings. Either report those Sequence Settings, or take a screen shot of the Sequence Settings and post that here.

  • Multicam Clip Audio Channel config greyed out

I shot an interview with two cameras.  One of those cameras had the audio (lav on left, boom on right).  That audio was imported as a stereo track on import, the angles where multicamed, and the edit happened.
Now I have a timeline with all my audio playing in stereo (lav on left boom on right).  I want to change from stereo to dual mono so I can audio mix properly, but when I select the multicam clip in the timeline, the channel configuation in the inspector lists it as stereo and the dual mono option is greyed out. (don't know why they won't let me change here)
I can go back to the event and select the multicam clip there and change it to dual mono and it will also change in the timeline.  So that seems like a work around, but I can't select MULTIPLE multicam clips in the event and batch change the channel config to dual mono.  Says "selected clips are from different multicam clips."
Am I going to have to select every single multicam clip individually in the event browswer and change the channel configuration on each one?

As far as I understand it, you cannot switch a "container" clip like the multicam to dual mono since it contains a clip which is stereo inside it. This makes sense, as per se it is not the multicam that is stereo or not.
You should make the change from stereo to dual mono in the actual AUDIO clip - either before creating the multicam, or after - in this case, after :-)
Open the multicam clip in Angle Editor (control-click the clip in the timeline and choose "Open in Angle Editor").
Now select the clip that contains the audio and make the change. Note that this WILL affect the relevant clip even outside the multicam.

  • Questions about editing video clips, images and text

I'm using the Expert mode and I'm having trouble with figuring out how to do certain things.
    1. I'm superimposing a picture of a scoreboard on my video and then I superimpose a text object on top of that so I can update the scores throughout the video.  I've placed on instance of the text object on my "Video 3" and now I want to change the score.  So I created another instance on the same "Video 3" timeline.  Now I want to close the gap between the two instances.  I would expect to be able to click on the gap in between and delete it but nothing happens.  I would also expect to be able to double click on the instance to access the specific start and end times that I see when I hover over it.  But again nothing happens.  So I've been magnifying the timeline so I can manually drag the two instances together.  Is there an easier and more precise way to close the gap?
    2. Is there an easier way to periodically change a text object without creating a bunch of instances?  My "project assets" folder is getting filled up quickly because the score is constantly getting updated and I keep creating a new instance for each score change.
    3. Is there a way to permanently combine two seperate video clips?  I've used the "group" option but there is still a divider that reminds me that the two were seperate.  I'd like to be able to combine the two and for it to look as if it was always just one large clip.
    4. When I use the scissors to cut a section out of the middle of a clip, the blue marker that shows where I am currently in the video stays in place.  So each time I cut out a section, I have to manually drag the blue marker over to the new beginning that was at the end of all the stuff I just cut.  Is there a preference to have the blue marker stay with you when you edit instead of it suddenly being far ahead of you in the editing process?
    Thanks!

Other than doing Duplicates of your Title, and editing those, as needed, the only other option would be to create the Titles in another program, such as Photoshop, then Save those as PSD's, to be Imported into PrE. The one downside of doing that, is that to edit those PSD "titles" is to Open them in Photoshop - the PrE Titler will not open them for the additional editing.
PrE does not have as much power to organize Assets, such as Titles, as does Premiere Pro, with both Bins and Folders (later versions). I always create a Bin, for my Titles, or even several Bins, for different types of Titles in the Project.
Maybe others will have a workflow, that I have not considered, so we both might learn something.
    Good luck,

  • How do you create a PIP in a multicam clip?

I know how to create a picture-in-pictre where I would overlay the PIP clip over the primary clip in my timeline, and reduce the size of the PIP window.
But I would like to use PIP in a multicam clip. I usually fully switch from one angle to the other. But how do I keep my master clip rolling and make my other angle appear in the PIP?
    Thanks

Create your multicam clip including the PIP angle.
Edit the multicam clip into the timeline.
Select the PIP angle as the active angle. Go forward in the project a bit and cut to a different angle.
Select the PIP angle in the timeline and use Opt-Cmd-Up arrow to lift it from the timeline.
Stretch it out for the length of your video so it covers up everything else.
Select the PIP layer and press Shift-T for the transform function and shape the PIP and position it as you like.
Should look something like this. Hope you see the images
