Editing Music

So I've had and used iTunes for years now and this is the first time this has ever happened to me. For some reason I just can't figure this out. I've imported all of my music intoto my library from my external hard drive and now it will not let me edit any of the song info/artwork. When you pull up "Get Info" on one or multiple songs, the text info should be in black and you should be able to edit this information. Now it shows up grey and it will not let me edit anything. Is there anything I can do to change this?

I had the same problem some time ago when I transferred some music from my laptop to my desktop. On looking at the file in Finder I found that although I am the only user of both machines I did not have sufficient permission to change the file.
Go to the file in Finder and Right Click. Get Info and at the bottom of the Get Info pane is a Sharing & Permissions section. Check the entries here and if necessary add yourself with Read & Write permission (by using the little + sign at the bottom).

  • Unable to edit music on iTunes, help please.

I am having problems editing tracks. I use either iTunes, or Tag & Rename to edit tracks. I had no problems at all in XP doing this. but, I have moved to Vista and now the track if I try and edit it, it's "greyed" out. I cannot edit it with eithger program.
I moved my old iTunes onto my External HD and moved the HD to my laptop.  I then copied the iTunes folder over to Music on the laptop, and it found the HD no problem, copied over playlists, and counts. It syncs without a problem and continues the counts.

It is a bit of a downgrade not being able to edit music details on the phone, but the only solution I've found is to make sure it's right before I drag and drop it onto the phone, then the issue becomes somewhat irrellivant ?

  • How to edit music album names - too long to display in Ipod

How can I edit music/audio album names. I don't really care about music but I have a lot of audio files and they all have the same name, followed by "Disk 1," "Disk 2," etc.  The problem is that the "Disk 1" doesn't get displayed because there's not enough room on the Ipod display.  I would think I could edit this in Itunes but don't see how to do it.  I would like to1 shorten the title so the "Disk 1" can be displayed.  Hope that is clear.
    Thanks for any help.

You can edit album names in iTunes on your computer.
Select all of the songs in the album, Select Get Info from the File menu, edit the Album name in the Info tab of the Get Info window and select OK.
This will change the name of the album. Note that you must change the album name for all of the songs in the album or you will end up with two albums.

  • Does itunes offer edited music to download

My 14 year old son wants an ipod for Christmas. I am concerned with him downloading the unedited music. Is there an option of downloaded edited music only?
      Other OS

You can set the Parental Controls in iTunes to disallow access to explicit music on the iTunes Store. It's not foolproof (the record companies sometimes don't correctly mark a track as explicit), but it will keep your son away from most of the problematic tracks. You'll also want to disable podcasts since there's no rating system for those.

  • Editing Music Tracks

    Hello
I have just starting to play with fcp x.  As a long time broadcast editor I thought it was about time to learn it.
I have done a short showreel for a friend which is a great way to learn!  I put some pictures down in story order and then put a track of music down to cut too.
I needed to edit the music down to length, but I could find no way to add an in point or out point to the music track, all it did was add the in points to the video (and its audio) track above.  In the end I used the razor blade and cut the music where I wanted and then dragged it back to make the edit.  Also I could not get the music track into trim mode..  Is this the only way to edit music tracks?  Any info would be great.
    Thanks a lot
    Rob

No need to use the blade tool. Just trim the audio clip by dragging the edge of the clip. With snapping turned on, it will be easy to align the end points.

  • I am new to Garage Band and was previously using sound forge on my PC to edit music for my Figure Skating students.  Is there a basic tutorial I can read to get started, nothing seems the same.

I am new to Mac and Garage Band and was wondering if I can use this program to edit existing tracks downloaded from i-tunes etc.  Is there a basic tutorial to get me started?  I edit music for figure skaters so it is relatively basic, fading in/out, cutting and pasting etc.

  • Replacement iPhone, Unable to edit music on iPhone

I recently dropped my iPhone in the bath and upon receiving my replacement I connected it to my computer and synced it with my existing iTunes library.
All the songs transferred fine but now when I connect my iPhone and look under devices-> Liana's iPhone-> Music all the track listings are in a faint grey writing and I can't edit anything on my phone through iTunes. I've tried looking on the support pages but can't find what to do.
    Help please???

  • Edited music only search

Previous versions of Itunes allowed me to search only for edited - (clean) - songs. The latest version does not. Any idea how I can only search for edited music? As a side note; I am getting increasingily frustrated with how complex Apple is making the process of searching, creating/sharing playlists between devices etc.

Go to Edit > Preferences > Parental, and put a check for "Restrict music with explicit content."

  • I can't acess or edit music on my iPod through iTunes...help please!

    Hey,
Recently I haven't been able to select or edit the music that's currently on my iPod, my iPod appears in the left hand menu bar but all the music is greyed out and inaccessible.
I can't figure out why it has suddenly done this, but I think it may have something to do with a small symbol of a locked pad-lock that has appeared by the bar telling me how many GB's I'm currently using and how many I have free.
Hopefully this print screen of my iTunes will help to explain what has happened: (sorry it is such bad quality!)
I know the solution is probably just a simple click of a button but, I've been trawling through all the iPod options trying to find a solution, and have been unsuccessful. I thought it might be due to the parental controls but the lock for that is unlocked and I've never set a password.
My brother is now using my old iPod mini on the same computer but a different user account...may that have something to do with it?
I am puzzled and confused, I hope you can help, any advice would be gratefully received!
Thanks for taking the time to read this,
    x Sarah x

I found this answer a few topics further in. It worked for me, hope it works for you.
I just changed my iPod from auto update to manually update, and the list is no longer grayed out. So that is what is stopping you, your iPod options are set for auto update.
Do the above in iTunes and everything comes up able to play.
    Thanks Katrina.S for this.

  • Final cut pro - editing music video audio falls out of sync

filmed with canon 7D- i play the music in the background for th artist to perform. upon loading up the footage into final cut, i sync the start of the video audio with the record, as they both play it falls out of sync. i did not have this problem when i edited with premiere. any ideas

Sync issues are *usually* going to be mismatched sample rates, for instance, you imported 44.1kHz audio into a 48kHz project.
This happened to me awhile back, and unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what I did to fix it. But what I *think* I did was click on the imported audio and went to the Retime menu and selected Conform Speed. If that doesn't work, right click on the audio in the event browser and select Transcode (if there's an option to do so in the dialog).
It is also possible to manually resync audio by Retiming it. Turn on snapping (N), select the clip, type Command-R and drag the audio clip's retiming handle until the end of the audio snaps with the end of the video clip (this is actually amazingly accurate.) [If your recorded audio is not the same length of the audio on the video, then set markers on the video and audio tracks and retime until the markers snap.] You should do this before any other edits.

  • Is it safe to download audacity to use on mac pro to edit music?

I would like to edit some music so that I can trim it down to fit a 700 mb audio disc? The file is currently in WMA format - thank you

Oh yes! I use Audacity all the time. It takes a bit to work the interface, it is not the most intuitive layout but it is a fine program.
Here's the ink to the FAQ about it, so you can see what you'll need to do for handling that .wma file.

  • Edit music in iphone 5s

How can I edit in iphone the music lists submitted by my mac's itunes? The option "edit" is blocked (is in gray

    Hi Brennen,
I've got the same problem mentioned above.  When I go to Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage  . . . there is no 'Music' app for me to open and delete music; I used to be able to do this in ios 7.1.2.
I have iTunes Match turned off.  I have "Show All Music" turned off in Music settings.  I currently have it in 'airplane mode', so basically it's an ipod (for experimental purposes).
When I go in to the Music app, I have 484 songs that I can play (not stream).  When I slide (right to left) on the songs/albums/artists/etc., I don't get a delete button.
I'm out of space and very frustrated.
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Edit Music in swf with flash....

I know there used to be a tutorial on how to edit the music
    in a swf music player.
There was a keyboard combo or shortcut to open some box that
then allowed you to change the song or music it played........
Also, can it then be edited to play a playlist so to speak,
    streaming maybe?
    Thanks as always....

First, turn on the waveforms in the project.
Then drag-select an area in the waveform. Drag the level line up or down to raise or lower the volume.

As amy_lou said, iTunes will recognize both phones as different devices.  If they have the same name, rename one of them so it is easier to recognize which is which.  This explains how to do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3965.
